Automation in automobiles seem to never go off the news now a days. All major car manufacturers and OEM suppliers are working hard towards the autonomous future - and now, German companies Daimler and Bosch have joined forces for a breakthrough in autonomous car parking.

Both companies have announced that the cars at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, can be displaced to a dedicated parking space using nothing but a smartphone. This technical wizardry is made possible after the two companies have equipped that specific parking space with new technology, which is capable of guiding cars with semi autonomous technology on-board. Daimler and Bosch believe that such technology would help around 20 per cent more vehicles to fit inside the parking garage.

While equipping parking garages with special equipment like this may sound too ambitious, because it’ll probably cost a bomb. However, this is just an early taste of some crazy things to come. The companies, for the time being, are testing such a technology to know how well the layman driver would interact with the concept of autonomous parking. Based on the results, the final implementation may be quite different.
