We still talk about Fiats biggest mistake of selling their CRDi design to Bosch GmbH but then again the then financially broke company did not have a choice. They soon found their footing and now Fiat Powertrain Technologies Poland plant in Bielsko-Bia?a reached a historic milestone as the 5 millionth 1.3-litre MultiJet engine rolled off the lines. Having won so many awards already, the figure speaks volumes of the companys success in delivering an efficient and powerful diesel powertrain.

The 4 cylinder, 16 valve 1248cc multijet engine has been in production from 2003 and has been used in cars produced not only by the Italian company but many others as well. Names like Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki are front runners for using this technology in their cars.

Constantly updated in terms of technology – its latest development is the one offered today, the MultiJet II – the 1.3 MultiJet is now available with various power levels: from the versions with fixed geometry turbocharger (from 70 to 75bhp), to more high-performance variable geometry turbocharger versions (from 85 to 95bhp). Fiat will continue to break new ground with this technology and we will see more of it in the years to come.
