Maruti Suzuki has officially begun operations at its new Kharkhoda manufacturing plant in Haryana, which is said to have an initial production capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles per year. The facility adds to the company’s production capability in India, alongside its existing plants (Gurgaon and Manesar), and Gujarat (Hansalpur). It is anticipated to gradually increase its production capacity to 1 million units in the future and play a key role in the company's broader strategy to expand its total production capacity to 4 million units per year by 2030-31. Notably, the first model to roll off the line at the state-of-the-art Kharkhoda plant is the popular Brezza SUV, which is currently priced at Rs 8.69 lakh in India.

In December of the previous year, Maruti Suzuki etched its name in history by becoming the first Indian automaker to produce 2 million vehicles in a single calendar year. Of the total vehicles, 60% were manufactured at its Haryana plants, while the other 40% were produced at the Gujarat plant.

The milestone was commemorated with the production of the 2 millionth vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV, at the Manesar plant in Haryana. Popular models like the Baleno, Fronx, Wagon R, and Brezza played a key role in reaching this landmark in 2024.

Other Recent Highlights

Suzuki, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki, recently announced its mid-term roadmap for FY2025-FY2030. The plan envisions the introduction of four electric vehicles by 2030, marking a pivotal shift for Maruti Suzuki towards greener transportation solutions. The first of these EVs to launch in India will be the e Vitara, which made its debut at the Auto Expo earlier this year.

The details on other upcoming electric models are currently undisclosed, however, industry sources anticipate that a hatchback and an MPV could be part of Maruti Suzuki’s expanding EV lineup in India.

Alongside its electric vehicle plans, Suzuki's strategy places a strong emphasis on the swift development of entry-level cars for budget-conscious buyers in India. While the precise launch date has not been disclosed, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a new entry-level model aimed specifically at first-time car buyers. This compact vehicle will explore a range of powertrain options, including CNG, flex-fuel, and mild-hybrid.
