Tata.ev to Expand EV Charging Network to 4 Lakh Stations by 2027
Tata Motors' strategy centres on partnering with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to expand the charging network along key highways.

In a substantial step toward advancing electric mobility, Tata.ev has announced an ambitious plan to expand its charging network, setting a target of establishing more than 4 lakh charging points by 2027 – more than twice the current figure. This planned expansion builds upon the company’s notable milestone of exceeding 2 lakh EV sales, reinforcing its dedication to simplifying and enhancing the accessibility of electric vehicle usage across the country. To drive this growth, Tata Motors is developing its 'Open Collaboration' framework, first introduced in 2023. This collaborative strategy focuses on forging strong partnerships with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), with particular emphasis on expanding charging infrastructure along major highways.
Tata's Open Collaboration 2.0 Initiative
As a key endeavour within the Open Collaboration 2.0 framework, Tata.ev is collaborating with leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to establish the Tata.ev Mega Charger network. To facilitate this, Tata.ev has formalised partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon, aiming to roll out 500 Mega Chargers over the next two years in the project's initial stage.

These chargers will be strategically positioned across major metropolitan areas and along crucial highway routes. While the Mega Charger network will be universally accessible to all EVs, the carmaker says Tata.ev customers will receive exclusive advantages, including prioritised access and special tariff benefits. Furthermore, the IRA.ev app will serve as a centralised platform to locate partner-operated chargers and handle payments seamlessly, eliminating the need to download and manage multiple charging apps.
To ensure consistently high-quality service, the company will initiate a comprehensive review of its existing charging infrastructure, applying a five-point evaluation scale to gauge performance. Charging stations that achieve a rating of four stars or higher will be recognised with a Tata.ev Verified badge, with corresponding images and ratings made accessible through the IRA.ev app. According to the carmaker, this effort aims to enhance the dependability of EV charging facilities by addressing persistent issues, such as non-EV vehicles occupying designated charging spaces, inconveniently positioned charging points, as well as malfunctioning equipment.
