Uber Black

Uber is all set to bring back its premium service, Uber Black, to India, starting with Mumbai, after a nearly ten-year hiatus. Uber Black caters to the rising preference of Indian customers for high-end services in luxury vehicles and with highly regarded drivers. It unlocks several customisable options such as temperature control, quiet mode, and luggage assistance, providing superior comfort, style, and convenience. Additionally, the high-end cab service allows for extended wait durations, offering passengers an additional five minutes for pickup without incurring a waiting fee.

Sharing his thoughts on the launch, Prabhjeet Singh, President, of Uber India and South Asia, said, 'We are thrilled to bring Uber Black back in an all-new avatar to meet the evolving aspirations of Indian customers and introduce the business class of back seats on Indian roads. As the largest on-demand mobility network with industry-leading matching, routing, and pricing tech and scaled fleet operations, we are bringing the magic of consistent high-quality service and premium comfort with Black. As India’s leading multimodal mobility service, Uber endeavors to cater to the full spectrum of riders from those seeking affordable rides on two or three wheels to those who desire a truly well-appointed experience in premium vehicles.

For the uninitiated, Uber Black was launched in India in 2013, allowing clients to book rides in Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi vehicles. However, these high-end cars were later replaced by models such as the Toyota Innova, Honda City, and Toyota Corolla before the service was discontinued in 2014 to focus on more inexpensive options for the growing customer base. With more premium options, Uber Black 2.0 is expected to be a more sustainable business model.

While there is no formal announcement, the new Black cab service may feature SUVs and MUVs from manufacturers like Toyota and MG Motor. It could cost between 30 to 40% more than Uber Premier.
