I have tried driving the Honda Jazz diesel in many different ways. I have driven it slow, I have driven it fast, I have driven it efficiently and not so efficiently but what surprises me is that no matter what, the car will return a fuel efficiency somewhere in the ballpark of 24 km/l during the winters where the use of the air conditioner is patchy. This has brought down my monthly fuel bill to less than half of that of my personal petrol car. Now if you remember, last month I was so optimistic about the Jazz diesel’s fuel efficiency that I was getting all ambitious about breaking its ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 27.3 km/l. And I’m sorry to disappoint you readers, but I have failed. Not by much though, for on my 113 km efficiency run within the city I managed to squeeze 27.15 km/l from the car! An impressive feat nonetheless if you ask me.
I also happened to take the Jazz on a road trip to Agra where I realized that the Jazz has good high speed stability. Even when you come over those poorly designed culverts on the Yamuna Expressway the Jazz will not lose its composure at 100 km/h and will quietly deal with the bumps while cushioning its occupants well.
With a full load of five passengers at highway speeds the Jazz diesel returned a respectable 18.7 km/l with the air conditioning running constantly. Like I said, doesn’t matter what you do, this car will always be very fuel efficient. Good job, Honda!
