Our long-term Ignis has just come back all shiny from its stipulated second service at 5,000 km. Although, these new cars technically do not need to go in for a service till the 10,000 km mark for oil & filter changes. So, all that was carried out was a general inspection of the car along with washing and cleaning. And while that might seem pretty pointless, let me bring a user related point of the car to your notice. When you buy a brand new model technicians and car wash employees are not aware about washing the engine bay of a car since they have never seen it before. So, it is advisable to take the car into a company workshop to get the engine bay cleaned. We had to do this as the engine bay was a little mucky after of driving in the rain and we needed it cleaned for a shoot.

At the service, Maruti also found that the metal ring inside the 12V power socket was missing in our test car which is why it wasn’t working in the first place. With that sorted, I can now charge my phone in the car.

Moving into the title of this Long Term report. You see, people have criticised the AMT autobox for jerky and slow shifts. As a result, I have carried out a comparison test on our website for the Ignis AMT against a similar spec CVT hatchback to determine which is the faster of the two. And the winner by a huge near 3-second lead was our Ignis. The Ignis aided by its lighter weight and a slightly more powerful but definitely more rev happy engine clocked in a 0 – 100 km/h time of 13.34 seconds. But the real icing on the cake is that despite doing back to back acceleration test runs and serving as my daily driver in traffic, the Ignis petrol AMT returned an astonishing 16.49 km/l by travelling 428.5 km/l from the last tank up and consuming 25.98 litres of petrol. Very impressive I would say for a petrol automatic hatchback.
