The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/ktm-390-adventure-review-first-ride-107195/">old 390 Adventure</a> was a blast, don't get me wrong, but it had its quirks, especially when pushed off-road. After spending six months commuting on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, I was curious to see how this new KTM stacked up. Well, we recently had the opportunity to thoroughly ride and test it, and let me tell you that it's a significant leap forward. This isn't just a refresh; it's a full-fledged evolution.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

  <p><br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Design and Quality<br></h2><p>Let's talk about the design first. It's definitely going to spark debate, but personally, I like it. That rugged rally-inspired Dakar vibe works in its favour. The 21-inch front and
17-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres are a huge plus.
The WP Apex suspension is another standout upgrade, offering a noticeably more
compliant and capable ride. An India-specific tweak – the offset rear monoshock
– lowers the seat height to 830mm in the Adventure variant and 825mm in the
Adventure X. On top of that, ground clearance has been increased to a solid

  <p>The pigmented body panels are a nice touch, promising better scratch resistance since they're painted during the moulding process itself. And the standard kit – knuckle guards, engine guard, and bash plate – is quite useful for off-road scrapes. The forged foot levers feel solid, and you can remove the rubber inserts for better grip while riding&nbsp;in the dirt. My only gripe? The flimsy all-plastic knuckle guards&nbsp;–&nbsp;they would have been much better with metal reinforcements.&nbsp;</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405792534-0shu-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-7.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 7.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The new bespoke ADV tubular trellis subframe – KTM claims
that it’s 10% more rigid – feels solid and enhances the bike’s overall
stability. Despite the weight dropping to 183kgs, the 14.5-litre fuel tank
remains unchanged. The overall fit and finish are excellent, offering a premium
feel throughout. The 5-inch bonded TFT screen, borrowed from the new 390 Duke,
is crisp, clear, and easily readable even in bright sunlight.<br></p><h2>KTM 390 Adventure First Ride Review: Ergonomics and Features<br></h2><p>The riding position is comfortable and upright – perfect for
long days in the saddle. The new KTM 390 Adventure feels large when you're off
it but seems to shrink around you once you get on and start moving. The
controls are intuitive, and the switchgear is easy to reach. Cruise control is
a welcome addition for highway stints, and the ride modes – Rain, Street, and
Off-Road – are simple to toggle through. A big plus is that ride mode settings
remain unchanged even after switching off the ignition – a thoughtful touch
indeed!</p>
<p>Phone connectivity and navigation feel slick, and the
voice-activated calling is a nice convenience. Unlike the Duke 390, which can
only receive calls, the 390 Adventure allows you to make calls directly from
the bike. Finally, the electronics suite – which includes cornering ABS,
switchable cornering traction control, Quickshifter+, and customizable ride

The LC4c
399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is noticeably smoother, thanks to
the 5mm offset crank. It delivers better low-end grunt than the previous model
but still loves to be revved. Peak power kicks in 1,000rpm sooner, making it
more accessible.</p>
<p>That said, there’s still a noticeable lag before the bike
starts moving. I noticed that it stalled a couple of times when
setting off from a standstill off-road, but far less frequently than the old
bike.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740405943424-ag92-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-15.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 15.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Acceleration is brisk, with 0 – 60 km/h achieved in 2.6
seconds and 0 – 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds – both quicker than the previous
generation model. The improved mid-range power is quite evident, delivering
faster 30 – 70 km/h roll-on acceleration.
Cruise control, which activates above 20 km/h, performs well
on the highway, especially when paired with Quickshifter+, making for a smooth

curved radiator and reprofiled shrouds that divert hot air away from the rider
– a definite and noticeable upgrade. The underbelly exhaust, with its claimed
400mm water-wading capacity, handles water crossings with ease, even when the
water level reaches the engine guards.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/02/1740406032170-z2yg-KTM-390-Adventure-Web-3.webp" alt="KTM 390 Adventure Web 3.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>The WP Apex suspension has received a significant upgrade,
offering a much more compliant ride, as it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough
terrain. The adjustable open-cartridge system provides 30 steps of compression
and rebound adjustment at the front, 20 steps at the rear, and 10 steps of
preload adjustment at the rear, allowing for fine-tuning across various riding
conditions.
While the increased suspension travel is a welcome
improvement, I did notice the front forks bottoming out a couple of times
during intense off-road testing – enough to throw me off the line slightly. That
said, it’s a fair trade-off for the bike’s sharp on-road dynamics and a huge
improvement over the previous model’s overly stiff setup, which was a common

    Off-road, the bike feels light, balanced, and predictable in
technical sections. Compared to the Himalayan, it’s noticeably sharper and more
responsive. The Apollo Tramplr tyres performed decently across varied on- and
off-road conditions. However, since we didn’t lower the tyre pressure when
going off-road, the front end lacked a bit of bite.
The brakes – a 320mm floating disc with a twin-piston calliper
up front and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper – are strong and

It’s a complete and far more refined package. The improvements in engine
smoothness, suspension compliance, and overall capability are substantial. It
still retains the fun, hooligan character we love, but now it’s more versatile

The former will be a generational update over the existing ADV-styled bike, while the latter will be&nbsp;a focused off-roader&nbsp;with styling similar to KTM motocross bikes.&nbsp;Showcased at&nbsp;the 11th edition of the India Bike Week (IBW) held last week, the KTM 390 Adventure and the 390 Enduro R can now booked&nbsp;through the company's official website or authorised dealerships across the country. The&nbsp;2025 version of the 390 Adventure is a go-to option for those&nbsp;seeking a touring bike with potent off-road capabilities, while the&nbsp;Enduro R is meant for hardcore off-roaders who want more performance.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>KTM 390 Adventure: Specifications</h2>

<p>KTM showcased the S variant of the&nbsp;390 Adventure bike at IBW. Sitting below the base X, the&nbsp;390 Adventure S is a proper ADV with a rally-inspired design. Highlights include a TFT display (with Bluetooth), a vertically stacked dual-projector LED headlamp cluster, Dakar-style bodywork, tubeless wire-spoked wheels, cruise control, and adjustable WP Apex suspension. The bike also has an improved riding posture over the existing one and rolls on a 21/17-inch wheel&nbsp;combination with Apollo Tramplr dual-purpose tyres.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2>KTM 390 Enduro R: Specifications</h2>

<p>The more off-road-focused Enduro R is lighter than the 390 Adventure S and takes inspiration from dirt bikes when it comes to design. Notable bits include a beak-like fender, sleek profile, and off-road-type block-pattern tyres. It also has adjustable suspension units but features&nbsp;a slimmer LCD instrument console with a joystick. Unlike the ADV, the enduro-style&nbsp;motorcycle gets a 21 front and 18-inch rear wheel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both&nbsp;bikes use the&nbsp;same engine as the third-generation KTM 390 Duke – a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 45.3bhp&nbsp;at 8,500rpm and 39Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Expect the ADV to get a larger rear sprocket upon arrival.&nbsp;</p>


KTM 390 Adventure, 390 Enduro R Bookings Open Ahead of India Launch

The KTM 390 Adventure will be a generational update over the existing ADV-styled bike, while the 390 Enduro R will be a focused off-roader with styling similar to KTM motocross bikes.

<p>KTM unveiled one of the variants of the&nbsp;new-generation Adventure at the recently held EICMA trade show in Milan. The variant in question&nbsp;is called the R, an&nbsp;off-road-focused version&nbsp;with a tall stance and an upright front fairing. The new 390 Adventure R&nbsp;has a towering 885mm seat height&nbsp;– a touch high for some riders in India. As a solution to that, KTM has a variant in the form of the road-oriented X, which gets a lower 825mm seat height, courtesy of lower suspension. Since the eleventh edition of India Bike Week (IBW)&nbsp;– one of India's largest motorcycling events – is set to kick off on December 6 in Goa, we expect&nbsp;KTM to unveil the X along with&nbsp;the R variant at the event. The global-spec KTM 390 Adventure comes in&nbsp;R, X, Enduro R and Supermoto variants&nbsp;– the third being showcased alongside the Adventure R at EICMA 2024. <p>The road-oriented X will be the entry point to the lineup. We expect a steel trellis frame,&nbsp;non-adjustable suspension with 200mm of travel, an LCD console, non-cornering ABS,&nbsp;and an 825mm seat height,&nbsp;the same as the Himalayan 450. The X&nbsp;will most likely&nbsp;run on 19/17-inch alloy wheels with road-biased tyres. Two colours are expected to be available upon launch here: black/orange and white/orange.</p>

<p>As for the R variant, expect&nbsp;an H50 TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. The model&nbsp;will likely bring the same chassis as the X, albeit with adjustable suspension (with 230mm of wheel travel). Typical for an&nbsp;off-roader, the bike is anticipated to sit&nbsp;on&nbsp;a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear wire-spoked wheel wrapped in dual-purpose tyres.&nbsp;The seat height will be higher than the X, but manageable for riders here.&nbsp;Other expected bits include&nbsp;cornering ABS, cruise control,&nbsp;and switchable traction control. The R will likely be offered in a single colour scheme: white/orange.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both variants will&nbsp;likely get the same&nbsp;399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that does&nbsp;duty in the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, this&nbsp;engine in the 390 Duke&nbsp;makes 45bhp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm&nbsp;of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Expect the new KTM 390 Adventure to use the engine with a slightly different state of tune.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The near-production-ready version of the new KTM 390 Adventure has been caught up close in India, flaunting its rally-inspired design. This indicates that the next-generation 390 Adventure&nbsp;is nearing its global debut, likely at this year's EICMA in November. Therefore, expect the upcoming KTM bike to arrive on our market by late 2024 or early 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Typical for an off-road-focused bike, the test mule of the revamped 390 Adventure&nbsp;has a&nbsp;spoked wheel setup, tall fairing,&nbsp;beak-like fender and sleek tail section, closely resembling Austrian bikemaker KTM's Dakar rally bikes. There are also vertically stacked projector LED headlamps and&nbsp;different-looking LED turn indicators,&nbsp;while the windscreen is&nbsp;taller to help improve the airflow. All of this is complemented by the rally-inspired high-mounted colour TFT display.&nbsp;</p>

However, for the first time, the&nbsp;Enduro version&nbsp;has been spied on in India, revealing a few key details. Likely to be called the 390 Adventure R, the Enduro will be the more affordable and off-road-focused variant of the standard ADV. Going by the spy shots, the KTM 390 Enduro will&nbsp;feature a&nbsp;single-piece LED headlamp&nbsp;setup&nbsp;with no windscreen, whereas the standard variant of the ADV spotted alongside the Enduro version will get&nbsp;vertically stacked projector dual projectors with signature LED daytime running lights, sleek LED turn indicators, and sharp tank extensions.&nbsp;The regular version will additionally have a transparent windscreen, likely to be taller than that of the outgoing model.&nbsp;</p>
