<p>At the heart of the Yamaha MT-03 is a 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine cranking out 42bhp at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed unit assisted by a slipper clutch.&nbsp;The third-generation KTM 390 Duke, meanwhile, gets a larger&nbsp;399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. <p><strong>autoX Awards 2023</strong>: Let me begin by saying that the KTM 390 Duke has lost a lot of its X-factor since it first appeared in 2013. Back then, the 390 Duke was miles ahead of its competition in terms of performance, but, more importantly, it was the first motorcycle in the Indian market to truly embody the idea of value-for-money performance. The subsequent release of the second-gen model saw a slight increase in performance, accompanied by a more agile chassis. And by the time the third-gen motorcycle appeared, we already knew what the 390 Duke was all about.</p>

<p>So, what is it that still makes the 390 Duke stand out ahead of its competition? Quite simply, it has evolved to become a more friendly motorcycle to ride. Consider, for instance, the notable advancement in addressing the heating issues that plagued initial Dukes. KTM has effectively rectified the problem to the extent that unless you are pushing it during the sweltering peak of summer, the heating issues would remain a thing of the past. The engine’s compression ratio has been brought down, while the displacement has been increased, both of which have significantly contributed towards mitigating the previous heat problems.</p>

<p>Another distinctive characteristic of the 390 Duke was its lurchy throttle and inability to be ridden gently, and once again, KTM has put in considerable effort to address this aspect of the motorcycle. Given that it’s a single-cylinder pocket rocket, I was never expecting the Duke to completely calm down, yet the noticeable improvement in its behaviour, especially in heavy traffic conditions, deserves a word of praise. And while it still may not be perfect, it, nevertheless, has reached a level where one can learn to live with it.</p>

<p>Setting aside the rebellious exuberance of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/ktm/390-duke/">390 Duke</a>, let’s look at some of its commendable traits. Foremost, the significant reduction in its weight undoubtedly stands out as the biggest highlight of the new-generation Duke. KTM has managed to bring down its weight by about 4kg, primarily from the unsprung mass of the motorcycle. This translates into increased agility, enabling the 390 Duke to effortlessly lean into corners and manoeuvre swiftly through traffic as if it were being controlled telepathically. Frankly, you may have a hard time accepting that a motorcycle in this segment can exhibit such exceptional cornering capabilities.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the engine, too, has undergone a notable evolution – instead of being a 373cc unit, it now is a 399cc powerhouse. This enhancement results in a more relaxed performance, not to mention a noticeable boost in both power and torque figures. While the 390 Duke never felt inadequate in terms of power, it’s good to have more power on tap now.</p>

<p>Lastly, the KTM 390 Duke used to be a bit intimidating for beginners, primarily because of its explosive power, but that’s no longer the case. While the power is still explosive, thanks to a host of electronic rider aids, it has now become a bit safer and less intimidating for new riders.</p>

<p>As for its lap time, the 390 Duke outshone every motorcycle in its vicinity by a margin, with only the more expensive motorcycles – those with the Ducati and BMW badges – managing to outperform it.</p>

autoX Awards 2023: Let me begin by saying that KTM 390 Duke has lost a lot of its X-factor since its launch in 2013. Back then, the 390 Duke was miles ahead of its rivals in terms of performance, but, more importantly, it was the first bike in India to embody the idea of value-for-money performance.

<p>Post the launch of the ever-popular KTM 390 Duke, all eyes are now set on the arrival of its off-road-ready&nbsp;cousin, the KTM 390 Adventure.&nbsp;However, the launch of the 390 Adventure may not be too far as the hardware that it will get is already out on the roads. Sources accessed by <em>autoX</em> confirmed, on the precondition of anonymity, that the chassis of the new KTM 390 Duke has been designed keeping in mind and that it will be used in&nbsp;the upcoming 390 Adventure. And that's not it, the chassis of the&nbsp;390 Duke is close to being ready for use&nbsp;in the next-generation 390 Adventure and should not need a lot of changes, if any,&nbsp;as per the source.&nbsp;Furthermore, it is also&nbsp;confirmed&nbsp;that the new model of the 390 Adventure will make its debut&nbsp;in late 2024, and go on sale in&nbsp;early 2025.</p>

<p>If we talk about the current generation model of the 390 Adventure that is on sale in India, it is based on the outgoing version of the 390 Duke, but it was more of an adaptation of the&nbsp;set of parameters defining the outgoing Duke. This time around, the chassis design was approached from the get-go with the intention of&nbsp;pushing what the current-gen 390 Adventure can do in terms of performance.</p>

<p>A strong case in point is the&nbsp;increase in&nbsp;ground clearance of the new 390 Duke, which has risen from 151mm to 183mm, despite it featuring an under-belly exhaust.&nbsp;If the 390 Adventure is to come with a side-slung exhaust, like the current-gen model, you can expect&nbsp;close to 200mm of ground clearance already.&nbsp;Additionally,&nbsp;the 390 ADV will&nbsp;get&nbsp;extra travel in the suspension as expected, and a larger front wheel than the new 390 Duke and as a result, we expect&nbsp;the&nbsp;ground clearance&nbsp;to go even higher.</p>

<p>The 2023 KTM 390 Adventure is now up for grabs across the Indian market. Priced at Rs 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom), the new model pays homage to KTM's Dakar Rally achievements, with 19 wins and 22 podiums since 2001. It is a top-of-the-line model that features spoked&nbsp;wheels and a fully adjustable suspension. Thanks to the new suspension setup, riders are now able to adjust the springs according to their riding styles. The bike is available in the country, alongside the existing 390 Adventure and the 390 Adventure X. Drawing inspiration from the Dakar bike, the 2023 model comes in a brand-new Rally Orange colour option and fresh Dakar Rally-inspired graphics. <p>The most important update on the 2023&nbsp;KTM 390 Adventure is that it now gets&nbsp;upside-down front forks that are&nbsp;adjustable by 30 clicks each&nbsp;for rebound and compression. While at the rear end, the bike uses a mono-shock, which is adjustable by 20 clicks for rebound while retaining 10-step pre-load adjustability.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition, the bike now receives 19-inch front and 17-inch rear&nbsp;black anodised&nbsp;aluminium spoked wheels wrapped in Metzeler Tourance tyres. According to the manufacturer, the bike's off-road credentials will be improved with spoked wheels and tubeless tyres.&nbsp;Braking duties are performed by Brembo 'Bybre' brakes with 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes.&nbsp;</p>
