<p>The iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus&nbsp;look almost identical to the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15‌ Plus, albeit with some design changes and new features. The Apple iPhone 16 models are said to be 'built from the ground up' for Apple Intelligence (AI). They come with a capacitive button, which Apple calls the Camera Control. Situated on the right side&nbsp;below the power button, the Camera Control button is protected by sapphire glass and&nbsp;lets you&nbsp;control various functions inside the Camera app by pressing or sliding your finger along it. <p>In addition, the smartphones&nbsp;feature the customisable Action button that was earlier limited to the iPhone 15 Pro smartphones. With this update, the Action button is no longer a Pro-exclusive feature and is now offered on all iPhone 16‌ models. The Action button is a feature introduced last year with the iPhone 15 Pro and provides options to choose between opening the camera, turning on the flashlight, recording voice memos, activating a Focus mode, and more. <p>In terms of optics, the phones have a vertical camera layout, instead of a diagonal camera arrangement. The camera system is capable of shooting&nbsp;spatial videos/photos, Macro shots, and more. You can also shoot&nbsp;4K60 video using&nbsp;Dolby Vision HDR.&nbsp;The display is an OLED panel, with the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus retaining 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes, respectively. The OLED panel comes with micro-lens technology, offering reduced power consumption and improved brightness.</p>

<p>Underneath the surface, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with an upgraded A-series chip (A18) built on TSMC's 3-nanometer process.&nbsp;Apple offers this chip with fewer GPU cores for the iPhone 16 models. The battery is said to offer a longer life, thanks to&nbsp;the new internal design and advanced power management of iOS 18. Colour options are as follows:&nbsp;Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, and Black. In India, the iPhone 16 is priced at Rs 79,999, while the iPhone 16 Plus costs Rs 89,900.</p>

<p>Apple has also bumped up the display size of the iPhone 16 Pro from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, up by 0.2 inches. The design remains the same, but the bezels are slimmer. Like the iPhone 16 models, the OLED display is more power efficient. The devices&nbsp;use an A18 Pro chip, offering enhancements over the A18 chip.&nbsp;Built on a second-gen 3nm process,&nbsp;the A18 Pro comes with&nbsp;a 16-core&nbsp;Neural Engine, giving access to enhanced AI features. <p>Apple's AirPods Max now comes in new colours: Blue, Midnight, and Starlight, alongside Space Gray, Silver, Pink, and Green. They also changed to a USB-C charging port to improve compatibility. These speakers still offer great sound quality and spatial music at a price of Rs 59,900.</p>

<p>The second-gen of AirPods Pro is now more focused on health and wellness. They have a noise app, a hearing test, and personalised hearing profiles. For Rs 24,900, they come with high-end features like active noise cancellation and personalised sound.</p>

At the Glow Time event, Apple launched an exciting lineup of new products, including the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, a new color option for the Watch Ultra 2, and refreshed AirPods Max.

<p>Apple may have given up its grand plans of creating a car to rival Tesla, but that doesn’t mean it’s parked its long-standing aim of automotive dominance. Project Titan, Apple’s thus far top-secret car development program, has been shelved in favour of a more insidious plan to take over the screens in your car.</p>

<p>And while the industry may be wary – for fear of losing data, control and potential revenue as a result – for car users this is mostly a good thing. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have become so ubiquitous that pretty much every new car on the market today has no option but to offer these connectivity options as standard features.</p>

<p>In fact, Ferrari has become the first automaker that’s <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/ferrari-12cilindri-purosangue-and-more-future-models-to-drop-built-in-satellite-navigation-system-117642/">decided not to provide a native navigation system in its new models</a> – presumably because all its well-heeled clienti already prefer to mirror whichever Maps they favour on their phones. Truth be told, though, you don’t need Ferrari wherewithal for this. Perhaps much to the dismay of automakers who slave over in-car systems, we all use Google Maps anyway! And that’s because the maps on our phones are more accurate, more intuitive, and, most importantly, provide real world traffic information that’s far better than anything the in-built system can do.</p>

<p>General Motors, however, is taking the fight to the likes of Apple and Google by threatening to stop offering CarPlay and Android Auto in its new models. At this point, though, not only are these systems ubiquitous but they’re also mandatory as far as car buyers are concerned, so I wouldn’t be surprised if GM rolls back this decision once customers start voting with their chequebooks – which is to say by keeping them closed.</p>

<p>After all, technology companies like Apple, Google and Amazon have so much more data and expertise in developing intuitive screen interfaces and apps that it makes sense for automakers to stick to doing what they do best – develop great cars – while letting the tech giants do what they do best.</p>

<p>The next phase of development for Apple is to offer CarPlay options that take over each of the many screens in your new car. They’re in the process of co-developing customisable solutions with automakers that would enable them to create interfaces for all the screens, right from the instrument cluster to the various infotainment displays.</p>

<p>But all is not lost for automakers. While connectivity issues and clumsy interfaces are the number one complaint for new car buyers across the globe, some carmakers do it better than others. <a href="https://www.autox.com/exclusive-stories/bmw-7-series-interior-review-the-big-bang-theory-116121/">BMW perhaps does it best with it’s iDrive system</a>. But keep in mind that it’s been working on the system for over two decades now. Similarly, Mercedes-Benz, with the latest version of its MBUX system, is offering augmented reality driving directions using its own OS that’s integrated with the car’s front-facing cameras. In fact, this is already being offered on the brand new EQA that’s featured <a href="https://www.autox.com/subscriptions/">in this issue</a>.</p>

<p>So, the key for both Apple and the automakers will be to merge the skillset of their respective experts to provide a seamless, intuitive and user-friendly in-car UI and UX. Frankly, since carmakers simply can’t keep Apple out of the cockpit, they may as well work with them to ensure that they retain their own identity while also keeping their drivers happy.</p>


The Latest Car Wars Have Moved from the Streets to Your Screens

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have become so ubiquitous that pretty much every new car on the market today has no option but to offer these connectivity options as standard features.

<p>Following the preview in 2022, Apple unveiled its next-generation CarPlay technology at the most recent WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference). The new interface is set to be launched later this year, with more control capabilities and customisation possibilities.&nbsp;Unlike the existing version, the upcoming Apple CarPlay will support numerous vehicle systems, including HAV controls, infotainment, driver's instrument display, and passenger display (if equipped). It will give users control over several key functions, including off-road statistics, climate control, driving modes, and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems).</p>

<h2>Next-Gen Apple CarPlay: What's More?</h2>

<p>Apple claims that the new CarPlay will be compatible with all kinds of displays on the dashboard, enabling more flexible and dynamic use of available space based on the needs of different carmakers. It further added that automakers can now tailor the interface to the features of their vehicles. For example, they can add buttons for seat heaters or modify the temperature control menu to match the number of seats and climatic zones.</p>

<p>It will now&nbsp;also be possible for users to customise gauge setups and information layouts according to their preferences.&nbsp;For example, a passenger screen may display navigation maps, while the central screen can show additional gauges. Notably, automakers' cooperation with Apple to co-develop their systems is a prerequisite for the level of integration.</p>

<p>According to the tech company, the latest version would accommodate a larger variety of notifications on the infotainment and instrument screens related to off-road gauges,&nbsp;performance gauges, inclinometers, and tyre pressure warnings.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Next-Gen Apple CarPlay: Availability</h2>

<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/porsche/">Porsche</a> and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/aston-martin/">Aston Martin</a> are among the first automakers expected to integrate the latest CarPlay technology into their upcoming models. However, the names of these vehicles are currently unknown. The new CarPlay&nbsp;along with other Apple software updates is expected to roll out later this year, possibly in September. However, more details are yet to be announced by the Cupertino-based manufacturer.&nbsp;</p>


Next-Gen Apple CarPlay to Offer More Customisation and Control Functions

At WWDC 2024, Apple revealed its next-gen CarPlay which will make its way into the production vehicles later this year. The new interface comes with more control capabilities and customisation possibilities. 

<p>Apple iPhone 15 featuring Roadside Assistance via satellite, in partnership with AAA, has finally been launched for the global market. The iPhone 14 series has also received this update. Both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available for purchase in India beginning on September 22 at the starting prices of Rs 79,900 and Rs 89,900, respectively. There are five colour options to choose from when purchasing the phone: blue, pink, yellow, green, and black.&nbsp;Extending the reach of Apple's Emergency SOS and Find My via Satellite services, both of which debuted with the release of iOS 14 and subsequent iterations of the iPhone and Apple Watch are currently accessible in 14 countries with plans to expand to more in the near future. Customers who purchase Apple iPhone 15 and activate one of these devices will get free access to Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance for two years. The user receives the benefits associated with AAA membership, or they may pay for the services on an as-needed basis if they are not AAA members.</p>

<h2>Apple iPhone 15: How does the Roadside Assistance Work?</h2>

<p>When you purchase an iPhone 15, Apple will provide two years of complimentary Roadside Assistance and Emergency SOS satellite services. In the event that you lock your keys in your car or have any other mechanical difficulties with your vehicle, Apple's satellite-based roadside help will link you with AAA through satellite-based text messages even if you don't have service. One can use the newly acquired iPhone 15 to contact Roadside Assistance in case of unforeseen circumstances and wait patiently for their arrival.</p>

<p>When an individual dials AAA for emergency SOS, a screen with a few questions will appear to help assess the issue. After the questions are answered, the device will send a satellite signal to AAA with the user's coordinates so that they may send help. However, this benefit comes with a catch: connecting via satellite requires a good view of the sky. If one's automobile were to break down in a dense forest or some other distant area where establishing a satellite connection would be difficult, this feature may not be of much use. The automobile must also be located near a road to be able to use the service, as AAA does not provide off-road recovery services.</p>

<p>Users will be educated and trained on maintaining a satellite connection to have a conversation with an AAA representative and get timely updates on the processing of their request.</p>

<h2>Apple iPhone 15: Will it be Coming to India?</h2>

<p>It's important to remember that Apple's new Roadside Assistance service is only offered in the USA at the moment. Because it is still in its early stages, it has several restrictions. Unfortunately, Apple's Satellite-Based Roadside Assistance won't be offered to Indian customers because of the country's stringent regulations on satellite communication.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apple's satellite-based Emergency SOS feature, introduced with the iPhone 14 series last year, is still unavailable in India as of the present day owing to the same government's strict regulations over satellite connectivity. The Emergency SOS is currently accessible in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.</p>


Apple iPhone 15 Users to Get Satellite-Based Roadside Assistance But There is a Catch

The Apple iPhone 15 is equipped with Roadside Assistance and Emergency SOS through satellite. Unlike Emergency SOS which debuted in iPhone 14, this feature lets iPhone users dial for roadside assistance without a cellular connection.

<p>Recently, Ola Electric's CEO Bhavish Aggarwal posted a teaser picture of a new product on the company's website – perhaps a new model in the Ola S1 scooter range! Ola Electric currently has three offerings on the market – the S1, S1 Pro, and S1 Air electric scooters – which will make this new model the company's fourth electric two-wheeler. The EV manufacturer gave us a sneak peek of the new model ahead of its formal debut next month. In the teaser shot, one of them seems to have what looks like a little windscreen above the headlight housing. In addition, Mr Aggarwal’s tweet says that we'll learn more information about it in July. Future electric scooters from Ola Electric are expected to be different from the company's existing offerings. Ola Electric has not shared many details regarding their forthcoming electric scooter.</p>

<h2>Ola Leaked Car Design</h2>

<p>Just a few days ago, Ola Electric's patent illustration was leaked. The electric four-wheeler seen in the patent illustration is most likely a concept vehicle; the prototype may look different, especially as it has large wheels and headlights. We can see the company's future design language in the leaked picture of the electric car.</p>

<p>Similar to the Tesla sedans (Model S and Model 3), the Ola car has a basic, recognisable design with few lines. The front of the Ola EV has a bumper with aerodynamic nooks, a tiny air inlet for cooling the batteries, and streamlined headlights linked to a long strip of LEDs. The subtle body lines along the car's flanks facilitate the free flow of air.</p>

<h2>Ola S1 Air Deliveries to Begin Soon</h2>

<p>The Ola S1 Air electric scooter will soon go into production. Due to recent modifications in the FAME-II scheme's subsidy structure for electric two-wheelers, Ola has discontinued the S1 Air's 2kWh and 4kWh battery pack variants.</p>

<p>A single 3 kWh battery will power the vehicle now, offering a range of up to 125km (IDC). The scooter will have a peak speed of 85km/h and a reported 0 – 60km/h acceleration time of 9.8 seconds. It will take around four and a half hours to fully charge the scooter.</p>

<p>Ola has announced that it will begin shipping the S1 Air in July 2023. The Si Air will be available in five different colours and will cost Rs 1.09 lakh (ex-showroom).</p>

<p>Yes, that includes your digital instrument cluster, an infotainment display, and any other&nbsp;screen&nbsp;that your car might have. Apple will, then, put its own skin on the instrument cluster dials, with customisable icons and layouts, and the rest of the information will be distributed across other screens.</p>

<p>Apple will also integrate a lot of the car’s functions within the CarPlay UI – the HVAC was one example shown on the stage, but there’s no reason why other stuff like the rear-view cameras and seat controls can’t be integrated into the UI as well.</p>

<p>Another feature update to CarPlay is the addition of widgets, which will take advantage of the large screens on modern cars to show richer information on the screen. For example, you could have a weather widget or a widget to see live scores right&nbsp;on your CarPlay home screen.</p>

<p>The first manufacturers to support the new CarPlay will be Audi, BMW, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/" target="_blank">Mercedes-Benz</a>, Jaguar, Nissan, Volvo, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/honda/" target="_blank">Honda</a>, and Renault, among others.&nbsp;This means that soon the stock UI of the manufacturer may never need to be used – as long as you’re carrying your phone, that is.&nbsp;</p>

Apple CarPlay update to takeover all in-car displays

Apple is overhauling the CarPlay software to support multiple screens within the car, essentially taking over the entire digital real estate of the vehicle. The new CarPlay will be supported by most major manufacturers, with the first cars to support it to arrive next year.

<p><strong><em>Expect Apple CarKey to make its debut on the new iOS 14 by September 2020. BMW will be the first carmaker to offer it&nbsp;on the new 2021 5 Series.</em></strong></p>

<p>After becoming the first carmaker to debut iPod integration &amp; wireless Apple CarPlay on its vehicles, BMW is once again set to become the first carmaker to offer support for its&nbsp;Digital Key via&nbsp;Apple Wallet on iPhone. The announcement was made at the recent Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. While the Apple CarKey (BMW Digital Key) will make its debut on the 2021 5 Series, Apple will roll&nbsp;out the feature on iOS 14, which is most likely to debut by September 2020.&nbsp;Compatible iPhone models include the&nbsp;iPhone XR, iPhone XS or newer.</p>

<p>With CarKey, car owners can simply use their iPhone to unlock/lock the vehicle. The digital key can be set up via the&nbsp;&nbsp;BMW Smartphone App. The vehicle access can also be shared with up to five people (via iMessage) and a special 'configurable car access' option&nbsp;allows the owner to restrict vehicle features, such as top speed, radio controls, etc. It's similar to the 'Valet Mode' in some high-end vehicles. The access management can be done from either inside the vehicle or remotely via Apple Wallet.</p>

<p>Additionally, the BMW Digital Key also creates a power reserve in&nbsp;the iPhone, so that the car key remains operational for up to five hours in case&nbsp;the iPhone is switched off due to low battery. The Digital Key also offers Apple Watch compatibility (Series 5 and newer).&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the Conference, BMW and Apple also announced a new feature for Apple Maps. Using CarPlay, EV drivers will soon be able&nbsp;to plan their journeys with better&nbsp;ease of mind, as Apple Maps will pick the optimal route based on electric range &amp;&nbsp;the locations of charging stations along the way. This new route optimisation feature will make its debut on the all-electric BMW i4 next year.</p>
