<p>Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based EV maker, has confirmed that its next electric scooter will be launched in India in 2024. It says that the new electric vehicle&nbsp;will be a 'bigger, family-oriented scooter', aimed to offer 'comfort, ample size, and a whole lot more'. This will not only help Ather expand its EV portfolio in India but also address a few issues with the 450X and the 450S, including compact dimensions. Judging from a previous set of spy shots, the upcoming electric scooter has more generous proportions. It seems to have gone for a conventional design approach with a flat front apron and minimal cuts &amp; creases. In comparison to the 450 series,&nbsp;the new Ather scooter receives a&nbsp;wider saddle with a single-piece grabrail, a more spacious floorboard area, and&nbsp;fairly larger mirrors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other design bits include a horizontally placed&nbsp;headlamp and taillamp, a foldable pillion footrest, and all-LED lighting. Features-wise, expect the family-friendly scooter to come with smartphone connectivity, 450S-derived Deep View display, ride modes, and multiple readouts.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>New Ather Electric Scooter: Battery, Hardware</h2>

<p>Though it gets a different design, the new Ather scooter is likely to borrow mechanical&nbsp;components from the 450 series, however, its motor could be differently tuned for more range and improved performance. For reference, the Ather&nbsp;450S uses a 2.9kWh battery pack&nbsp;that offers a claimed range of 115km, while the 450X offers 2 battery packs - a&nbsp;2.9kWh battery with a 111km range and a larger 3.7kWh battery with a 150km range.</p>

<p>As for its hardware, the production-spec version is anticipated to&nbsp;feature&nbsp;the&nbsp;telescopic front fork&nbsp;and&nbsp;disc brake, as found on the recently spotted test mule in Bengaluru.&nbsp;To make it easily accessible to more urban commuters, the new Ather Electric Scooter could be priced below the current 450 lineup.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>New Ather 450&nbsp;to be Launched As Well</h2>

<p>Ather is also preparing to launch the new 450 scooter, which is said to be an evolution of the 450 series,&nbsp;in early 2024. The new iteration&nbsp;intends&nbsp;to offer&nbsp;better performance, a revised design, as well as more features. With all these changes, expect the updated version to command a premium over the existing 450.&nbsp;</p>

The new Ather 450 with improved performance, updated design, and more features will be launched in India early next year.

<p>Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy experienced a 2.59 per cent increase in sales during August 2023. The company sold 8,062 units in August this year, marking a slight uptick in sales in the Indian market. In July 2023, Ather sold 7,858 electric vehicles. Compared to August 2022, the Bengaluru-based EV company achieved a year-on-year increase of 25.77 per cent, with 6,410 units delivered in August of the previous year. However, it's worth noting that Ather's recent sales figures appear subdued when compared to May 2023, when the company achieved its highest-ever monthly sales of 15,256 vehicles. This decline can be attributed to the revision of the Fame II subsidy, effective from June 1, which reduced the maximum subsidy available for electric two-wheelers from 40 per cent to just 15 per cent, resulting in increased electric vehicle prices. Under the Fame-II subsidy scheme, the Ministry of Heavy Industries capped electric two-wheeler subsidies at Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity.</p>

<p>In response, Ather Energy launched the entry-level 450S and the updated 450X in the Indian market. The 450S is now the most affordable model from the brand, with a price tag of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). With these launches, the homegrown brand hopes to gain a larger market share for electric two-wheelers in the coming months. Besides, the company recently confirmed the commencement of the production of its brand-new 450S electric scooter.</p>

<h2>Ather 450S, 450X: Battery, Range, Top Speed</h2>

<p>The new Ather 450S is equipped with a 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery, which powers a 5.4kW electric motor. This battery pack is enough to provide an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 115km on a single charge. <p>The refreshed 450X comes with 2 battery options – a smaller 2.9kWh battery and a 3.7kWh battery pack. The 2.9 kWh battery works in conjunction with a 6.4kW motor, offering a combined range of 111 kilometres. Whereas, the 3.7kWh battery offers a certified range of 150 kilometres. According to Ather, the 2.9kWh 450S and 450X will require more than 8 and a half hours to fully charge. All scooters will come equipped with a 350-watt charger, but customers will also be able to opt for a 750-watt charger as an extra accessory. The pricing for the 450X starts at Rs 1.38 lakh for the 2.9kWh version and goes up to Rs 1.53 lakh for the 3.7kWh version. All prices are ex-showroom.</p>

<h2>Ather 450S, 450X: Features</h2>

<p>On the feature front, both the 450S and the 450X get an LED headlamp, a 7.0-inch display, and updated switchgear with two new switches – 'one-click reverse' and a 'joystick'. Both are offered in two variants: Core and Pro. The latter has four riding modes – SmartEco, Eco, Ride, and Sport – along with added features like Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and auto-hold functionality.</p>

<p>A coasting regen function (which extends the range by up to 7%), 'FallSafe' (automatic motor cut-off when a scooter falls), and an emergency stop indication are other feature highlights.</p>

<h2>Ather 450S: Price and Rivals</h2>

<p>The entry-level model of the 450 line-up, the 450S, retails in India at a starting price of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and tops out at Rs 1.44 lakh. In terms of market rivalry, it goes against the likes of the Ola S1 Air, TVS iQube S, and Bajaj Chetak, among others.</p>

Selling 6,479 units in June this year, the EV company witnessed a sharp decline in its sales in the Indian market. In May 2023, Ather sold 15,256 vehicles. When compared&nbsp;to June 2022, the Bengaluru-based EV company did record&nbsp;an increase&nbsp;of 101 per cent year-on-year but this is significantly lower than the previous month's sales. The sharp decline in sales can be attributed to the revised Fame-II subsidies, thereby leading to a substantial hike in product prices. Ather's domestic sales stood at 3,231 units in June 2022, while the company managed to sell about&nbsp;6,479 samples domestically in June 2023.</p>

<p>In June 2023, electric two-wheeler manufacturers upped the prices of their products due to a significant reduction in Fame-II subsidies. The new amendment&nbsp;came into effect&nbsp;on&nbsp;June 1.&nbsp;Under the Fame-II subsidy scheme, the&nbsp;Ministry of Heavy Industries capped&nbsp;the electric two-wheeler subsidies&nbsp;at Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Post revision, the standard Ather 450X is&nbsp;priced at Rs 1.28 lakh, while the 450X Pro Pack asks for Rs 1.49 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. Despite having a&nbsp;Fame-II subsidy reduction of Rs 20,500 to Rs 32,000, the company hiked the prices by Rs 8,000 and absorbed a part of this price increase. As a result, the updated ex-showroom prices are only marginally higher than March 2023 levels.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Ather 450X: Battery, Top Speed</h2>

<p>The Ather 450X is powered by a 3.7kWh battery pack.&nbsp;Both versions of the Ather 450X have the same specs.&nbsp;The electric scooter has a peak torque of 26Nm and a power output of 8.58bhp. The acceleration from 0 to 40km/h takes 3.3 seconds. The Pro-Pack version has five ride modes: Warp, Sport, Ride, Eco, and SmartEco. The standard model, however, gets only a single&nbsp;riding&nbsp;mode. When it comes to peak speed, the Ather 450X sits in the third position, for it&nbsp;tops&nbsp;out at&nbsp;90km/h.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Upcoming Ather 450S: Price, Rivals &amp; More&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Meanwhile, the manufacturer is gearing up to roll out&nbsp;the 450 range's entry-level model soon in the country, in an attempt to make the electric vehicle&nbsp;accessible to more consumers.&nbsp;Called the Ather 450S, it will carry a price tag of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The EV maker claims that the new e-scooter&nbsp;provides comparable efficiency and a better riding experience than standard 125cc petrol scooters, which are already on sale in the country. In the Indian market, the Ather 450S&nbsp;will&nbsp;compete with the Ola S1 Air.&nbsp;</p>
