Underpinning the new Audi A6 Avant is the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), an advanced iteration of the MLB Evo platform.

The Audi A6 e-tron concept sedan has been unveiled, and the production model will hit the showroom floors by late 2022. Alongside the Audi A6 e-tron, the company could also launch a crossover SUV based on the same platform, the Q6 e-tron.

Audi has unveiled&nbsp;its A6 e-tron concept, which&nbsp;will be showcased at the Auto Shanghai 2021 show. The concept EV sedan is an all-electric successor to the Audi A6; however, the A6 e-tron is underpinned by an all-new platform. A platform that Audi has dubbed the Premium Platform Electric or PPE for short.

The platform is flexible enough to spawn an electric crossover SUV as well, most likely the Q6 e-tron. The PPE will be positioned above the Volkswagen Groups MEB platform, which underpins the&nbsp;Audi Q4, Q4 Sportback, Skoda’s Enyaq, and VW ID.3 and ID.4. However, the PPE will still be below the J1 platform, which underpins the Audi e-tron and Porsche Taycan. The production model based on the Audi A6 e-tron concept will be launched internationally by late 2022. We believe the production model will be styled very closely to the concept car, which has been showcased at the Auto Shanghai Show. For now, we have only the exterior to drool over, as Audi has kept the interior&nbsp;a secret.

Audi claims to have improved its fast charging process by reducing its downtime – within 25 minutes, an 800-volt charger will juice up the A6 e-tron’s 100kWh battery from 5 to 80 per cent, and a 10-minute charge can give the A6 e-tron a claimed range of 300km. Audi also adds that if driven carefully on the advised drive mode and specific power output, the A6 e-tron will return a range up to 700km.

The A6 e-tron gets a dual motor setup, with a total power output of 469bhp (350kW) and 800Nm of torque. There will also be a quad-motor setup for a&nbsp;Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The lower variants of the A6 e-tron concept sedan can go from zero to 100km/hr in seven seconds, while the higher (most likely the S-line) variants can do the same 0 – 100km/hr within four seconds. There could also be a more powerful version, with a power output north of 500bhp and an RS badge.

It is that time of the year again when most automobile manufacturers announce a hike in prices of their products. This year, Audi is amongst the first brands to announce a price hike across its model range. All Audi cars will get 2% dearer starting 1st January 2021. Audi currently has six models in its product portfolio in India, including two RS models.

Speaking about the price hike, Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi India, said, 'At Audi India, we strive to give our customers the best, but the rising inputs costs and currency fluctuations have put a strain on our cost structures, and we are forced to make amends to prices.'

After a long wait, Audi recently brought in the Q2 to India. The entry-level offering has been brought to India via the CBU route and is priced starting at Rs 34.99 lakh. The fully loaded top-end trim of the Q2 carries a hefty price tag of Rs 48.89 lakh. At the other end of the spectrum, the RS Q8 is the most expensive Audi product on sale currently and was introduced in August at Rs 2.07 crore (all prices are ex-showroom).

Mercedes-Benz is the only other luxury carmaker to have announced a hike in its prices&nbsp;– it did so last month. We expect other brands like BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover to follow the trend in the near future.

Armed with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain featuring an electric motor and a 2.0 litre petrol engine, the new A6 Avant TFSI e Quattro aims to push the boundaries for station wagon hypermiling. 

We know it’s tough, but try not to focus on the gorgeous backdrop too much. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get out there ourselves soon enough. In the meantime, focus on the svelte Audi A6 Avant TFSI e Quattro in front of you. This is the latest car to have its wraps taken off by the Ingolstadt based carmaker. And in typical Audi station wagon style, it looks absolutely gorgeous even in this unimaginative raw white paint shade. This particular car has the S Line body kit which further enhances the sporty appeal of the car with its black styling package, Matrix LED headlamps, large 19-inch dual-tone alloys sporting red brake calipers, all of which come as standard.

Move past the A6 Avant’s tasteful exteriors and what is actually new about the car lies under the hood for this is a plug-in hybrid variant. At its heart lies a 2.0 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine that’s mated to a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission. The engine develops 250bhp and 370Nm of torque. The car also features an electric motor that develops 140bhp and pushes the combined power and torque outputs to 362bhp and 500Nm, respectively.

Badged as the A6 Avant 55 TFSI e Quattro, this hybrid will go from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 250 km/h. The car is also said to have a pure electric driving range of 51 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. The car has a 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed in the back of the car and it can be charged up with chargers up to 7.4 kW and it takes a maximum of two and a half hours to be fully charged up from empty. Despite the incorporation of the battery pack, Audi has ensured that the A6 Avant e Quattro retains practicality at its core with 405 litres of boot space and 1,555 litres of cargo space with the rear seats folded down.

The Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSI e Quattro comes with three driving modes, EV for pure electric driving, Hybrid for fuel-efficient driving and Hold for driving without electrical assistance. The transmission also has a coasting mode to allow freewheeling to save energy on the go.

The new Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSI e Quattro also comes with connected car tech that allows customers to run the air conditioning before they get into the car via the myAudi smartphone app.

The starting price for the A6 Avant 55 TFSI e Quattro in Germany is Rs. 59.32 lakh.

After an extremely long wait, the fifth-generation Audi A6 has finally made it to our shores. It has been on sale in the West for over a year now, but, dare I say, it doesn't look fresh and intimidating. Now what remains to be seen is how it drives.

The new A6 has been on sale in the West for the past year-and-a-half, so was it worth waiting for?

Eight years! That’s how long the previous generation of the Audi A6 was on sale. Of course, in between it saw a midlife facelift and multiple special editions, but there’s no denying that in the last few years it was beginning to show its age – a point highlighted by the launch of the new BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class in 2017. But now Audi has finally caught up by launching the all-new A6, so was it worth the wait?

Clean cut 
One look at the new A6 is enough for you to notice that Audi has taken a more evolutionary, instead of a revolutionary, approach towards designing it. That being said, the typically clean German design certainly does look elegant.&nbsp;

The A6 now gets a larger grille, which, unlike in the new BMW’s, seamlessly fits into its overall design. From the front bumper and bonnet to the rear bumper and tail section, the sharp creases are a lot more prominent.&nbsp;

The A6’s alloy wheel design echoes that of the all-electric e-tron, and I simply love it. The head and taillights both are LED units, and have also become sharper than before. Overall, the A6 isn’t quite as striking as perhaps Audi was going for, but it’s certainly quite pleasing to look at. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

And while Audi may not have radically changed the overall exterior design of the new A6, it has certainly done a lot to give the interior a new complexion. The multiple layers of the dash, and the use of different materials, make it looks distinctive and fresh. I just love the gloss black panel above the glovebox and the way it blends into the large central touchscreen unit.&nbsp; 
The new A6 gets another screen on the centre console for the automatic climate control, and, to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of this new trend of replacing physical knobs with touchscreens. Sure, it makes the dash look uncluttered, but it requires you to take your eyes away from the road while driving to operate any of the controls.&nbsp;

There’s also a third screen behind the steering wheel, known as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit. Now, this one is a lot more useful, as it offers you all the information you could possibly need right in front of your eyes.&nbsp;

The new A6 has grown marginally in size, something that you barely notice – you have to look at the spec sheet to be made aware of this fact. While the length has increased by 7mm, wheelbase is up by 12mm, but unlike the E-Class, the A6 launched here in India isn’t the long-wheelbase version.&nbsp;

Smooth as ever&nbsp; 
Audi has only brought in the A6 with the 45 TFSI badge to start with. This 2.0-litre petrol motor develops 241bhp and 370Nm. The power here is marginally less than the 5 Series’ but more than that of the E-Class and Jaguar XF. The torque rating, however, is better than all its rivals.&nbsp;

The engine feels incredibly refined and quiet. Whether driving in the city or cruising on the highway, the noise inside the cabin is always extremely well contained. It’s only when you push the car to its limit that a mild purr is heard. In terms of outright acceleration, the A6 surely doesn’t feel the quickest out there, but it isn’t slow by any means. In fact, the power delivery is more progressive than eager. Some of this can be attributed to the 7-speed S-Tronic transmission, which is smooth but isn’t the quickest to respond to inputs.

Like all other Audis, the A6 also gets different driving modes. But since this model misses out on air-suspension, the modes only alter the engine and steering feel. While there is a noticeable difference in the way the steering weighs up, depending on the selected mode, sadly the engine doesn’t feel all that different.&nbsp;

Unlike the previous model, which was fitted with air suspension as standard, this new A6 sits on steel springs – a move that has been made to keep the costs in check. But to give credit where credit’s due, despite the downgrade in terms of hardware, the A6 ride flattens out the worst roads incredibly well. Of course, the 225/55 section tyres play a huge role in cushioning most of the bumps. The A6 is even high enough to ensure that you don’t have to cringe every time you go over a large pothole.&nbsp;

On twisty roads, however, the Audi leaves you wanting more. For an engine that packs a decent punch, it feels out of its comfort zone when pushed hard. The steering is light and quick, which is great for urban driving conditions, but around corners it just doesn’t feel communicative enough.&nbsp;

Verdict 
Although Audi has brought the A6 to India more than a year-and-a-half after its global unveil, the A6 remains impressive in terms of style, refinement and tech. It may be a bit late to join the party, but it has more than enough tricks up its sleeve to give its competitors something to think about. That said, what the Audi gains in all of these aspects is somewhat lost in the overall driving experience. Sure, it doesn’t set a foot wrong, but it’s very clinical in the way it operates. So, if you’re looking at something more emotive or involving, look elsewhere. But if you want something clean and cutting edge, this latest model from Ingolstadt has got you covered. &nbsp;&nbsp;

2019 Audi A6 45 TFSI Review: First Drive

After a year of hiatus, the 2019 Audi A6 45 TFSI is the first product making its way to India that proudly flaunts the Ingolstadt automaker's insignia. So, we took it for a spin to see what it's about.

This time around, Audi has launched the new-generation A6 only with a 241bhp 2.0-litre petrol motor &amp;&nbsp;mild-hybrid tech. While a&nbsp;diesel option has not been ruled out, it&nbsp;is expected to follow in the coming months.

After a long wait of over a year, we finally have a new-generation offering from Audi. The Ingolstadt-based carmaker has now launched its mid-sized sedan, the A6. Like the A4, the new A6 is now also available in two trims: Premium Plus &amp; Technology. The former, being the base variant, is priced at&nbsp;₹ 54.2 lakhs.&nbsp;The top-spec Technology trim carries a sticker price of ₹ 59.2 lakh. In comparison, the outgoing generation of the&nbsp;A6 had a starting price of&nbsp;₹ 50 lakh. (All&nbsp;prices are ex-showroom).&nbsp;

The new A6 is larger than the model it replaces and sports an all-new design language. Fitted with an edgier Singleframe hexagonal&nbsp;front grille and sportier-looking 18-inch alloy wheels, the A6 looks sharper than before and borrows its styling&nbsp;from the new A8 sedan &amp; A7 Sportback.&nbsp;The new A6 has been plonked with LED headlights, DRLs and taillights.

As of now, Audi has only introduced the A6 in the 45 TFSI guise that uses a BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. The powertrain also gets a 12V mild-hybrid setup to augment performance &amp; increase fuel efficiency. Combined, the new Audi A6 has a power &amp; torque output of&nbsp;241bhp and 370Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed S-Tronic transmission that helps the new A6 go from 0-100mk/h in&nbsp; 6.8 seconds. In comparison, the BMW 5 Series makes 248bhp and 350Nm. The Bimmer is paired with a ZF-sourced 8-speed transmission.

Like the generations before it, the Audi A6 will continue to compete against the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class &amp; the Jaguar XF.

New Audi A6 launched at ₹ 54.2 lakhs

This time around, Audi has launched the new-generation A6 only with a 241bhp 2.0-litre petrol motor & mild-hybrid tech. While a diesel option has not been ruled out, it is expected to follow in the coming months.

With 362bhp &amp; 500Nm of torque at its disposal, the&nbsp;A6 55 TFSI e quattro&nbsp;packs a lot of punch while offering the everyday practicality of a hybrid.

Audi introduced its new range&nbsp;of plug-in hybrid models with the Q5 55 TFSI e quattro in May 2019. Its was followed by its less-powerful sibling, the&nbsp;Q5 50 TFSI e quattro &amp; in September, Audi extended the hybrid treatment to the A7 Sportback. Now though, Audi has brought out the hybrid versions of its famed sedan, the A6.

The A6 55 TFSI e quattro, like any plug-in hybrid, is powered by a petrol motor &amp; a Li-ion battery&nbsp;pack. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder&nbsp;petrol motor contributes 248bhp, while the electric motor, which is integrated into the&nbsp;seven-speed S-Tronic transmission, peaks out at 141bhp. Combined, the hybrid powertrain produces a healthy 362bhp &amp; 500Nm of torque. This means that the&nbsp;A6 55 TFSI e quattro won't be a slouch when put to the test against its ICE-powered derivatives. The 14.1kWh battery pack sits neatly in the luggage compartment to minimise loss of storage capacity.

With a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds, the hybrid powertrain is capable of sending&nbsp;through all of the torque from as low as 1,250rpm. While the&nbsp;top speed is capped at 250km/h, the car can reach up to 135km/h on purely electric power and&nbsp;still deliver about&nbsp;53km of electric driving range. To add the necessary visual oomph, the&nbsp;A6 55 TFSI e quattro gets the brand's signature S Line exterior package &amp; a black styling package as well. 19-inch wheels &amp; red brake callipers further reiterate its&nbsp;sporty credentials.

Just a few days back, Audi also unveiled the TFSI e quattro variant of its luxury flagship, the A8 L. The A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro draws its power from a direct-injection V6 petrol motor &amp; the same Li-ion battery pack as the A6. However, the A8 L hybrid produces more power (443bhp) &amp; torque (700Nm) than the A6 hybrid.
