<p>Despite a chaotic second day of Formula One winter testing in Bahrain in 2024, Carlos Sainz drove Ferrari to the lead. Using the red-marked C4 tyre, Sainz had an outstanding performance on the second day of preseason testing, becoming the first driver to break into the 1m29s. The C4 tyre was chosen by just three drivers on this particular day, and Sainz's outstanding time of 1 minute, 29.921 seconds was unbeatable.</p>

<p>Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen did not get to drive on the second day since his afternoon appearance was postponed so Sergio Perez could get additional laps in. A red flag caused Perez to lose more than an hour of running time in the morning session, which was already disrupted.</p>

<p>A loose drain cover damaged Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, shortening the morning session. To make up for it, the afternoon practice was extended. Even though Sainz had a large lead in the standings, the race for second place was very close. Lando Norris, who ran alongside Sainz, lost 1.3 seconds at the session's end. After getting their fastest times in the last two hours of testing, Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton showed that they were serious challengers for second place.</p>

<h2>2024 F1 2024 Bahrain Test: Day 2 Pre-season Result</h2>

<p>Although he was only 0.7 seconds behind the leader, Perez demonstrated his mastery in<a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/f1-red-bull-reveals-rb20-for-2024-season-with-design-that-mimics-mercedess-w14-116194/"> the stunning RB20</a>. Although he was 1.1 seconds slower than Sainz, Hamilton displayed a<a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/f1-bahrain-pre-season-test-mercedes-w15-is-nicer-to-drive-says-george-russell-116256/"> well-connected lap in the W15</a>. Despite having his time stamped earlier in the day than Hamilton and Perez, Norris still managed to secure fourth place. After matching Sainz's best performance on the C4 tyre, Ricciardo finished sixth in the RB. Leclerc set a new personal best in the morning session before suffering damage. He finished sixth.</p>

<p>The second day of testing concluded with Stroll, Ocon, Bottas, and Piastri rounding out the top ten. With an impressive 117 laps, Williams' Sargeant earned the eleventh-best time.</p>

<p>Due to time constraints, Alonso of Aston Martin, Zhou Guanyu of Sauber, and Gasly of Alpine all managed to finish less than 40 laps in the morning session, but they all still factored into the final results.</p>

<p>Among the seventeen drivers, Haas teammates Magnussen and Hulkenberg stayed at the bottom, while RB's Tsunoda set the slowest time. There were no major incidents during the afternoon session, in contrast to the morning. However, race control did temporarily stop towards the conclusion of conducting planned system checks.</p>

2024 F1 Bahrain Pre-season Test: 2024 Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Sets the Pace on Day 2

Carlos Sainz dominated day two as three drivers opted for the C4 tire, securing an unbeatable time of 1 minute and 29.921 seconds. The morning practice faced disruption due to a loose drain cover damaging Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, prompting an extension of the afternoon session.

<p>Max Verstappen dominated the first day of Formula 1 preseason testing in Bahrain with a spectacular display of speed. With an eye towards clinching his fourth drivers' championship in a row this year, the defending champion blew away the field, crossing the finish line one second ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris. Even though there are a lot of unknowns when it comes to testing lap times, Verstappen's improved Red Bull unquestionably set a notable milestone. A dramatic departure from Red Bull's dominant 2023 RB19, the RB20 arrived to much fanfare at the Bahrain show.</p>

<h2>2024 F1 2024 Bahrain Test: Day 1 Pre-season</h2>

<p>The morning session belonged to the three-time world champion, and he never relinquished his lead. With a remarkable lap of 1 minute, 31.662 seconds on Pirelli's C3 tyres—the softest compound for the forthcoming Bahrain Grand Prix—which almost all drivers used for their fastest laps—he reclaimed the lead from McLaren's Lando Norris halfway through.</p>

<p>In third place, only tenths of a tenth behind Norris, was Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, who had a fast lap around the same time as Norris in the early afternoon in his new Ferrari SF-24.</p>

<p>As the<a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/f1-red-bull-sister-team-rb-reveals-2024-formula-1-livery-and-its-not-as-complicated-as-their-name-116116/"> renamed AlphaTauri RB team's</a> driver, Daniel Ricciardo, steadily improved his lap time in the final hours to secure fourth place. Pierre Gasly accelerated in the last minutes to take fifth place and get into the 1 minute, 32-second range at Alpine, which mostly features high-fuel, hard-tyre programmes.</p>

<p>Notable incidents occurred when Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll lost his left rearview mirror. Daniel Ricciardo narrowly avoided the debre but Haas' Nico Hulkenberg was unable to react on time and suffered damages.</p>

<p>After Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc from the morning session, Zhou Guanyu from Sauber, and Logan Sargeant from Williams completed the top ten.</p>

<p>While navigating the rapid Turn 9 into the difficult left-hander Turn 10, Sargeant was involved in the most significant incident of the day. Although there were major lock-ups, especially through Turn 8 and Turn 10, with Norris and Stroll suffering significant ones, the day generally went smoothly aside from Sargeant's spin and an early moment filmed by Esteban Ocon of Alpine.</p>

<p>George Russell, the only Mercedes driver on day 1, finished 12th on C3 tyres. The team prioritised longer runs and harder tyres during the afternoon, since all 14 drivers in the top fifteen all used these compounds.</p>

Despite this, Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished the day with 138 laps, while Haas topped the mileage leaderboards with 148.</p>
