<p><em><strong>Benelli has announced yet another price hike of Rs 16,000 on its products in India after its previous increase in April this year. when the motorcycles got dearer by Rs. 14,000. </strong></em></p>

<p>The recent hike, that goes up to Rs. 16,000 affects the manufacturer’s middleweight offering including the Leoncino 500 and the 502C.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prices for the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/benelli/leoncino/">Leoncino 500</a>, which was started at Rs. 5.10 lakh (ex-showroom) ahead of the hike, has been revised to Rs. 5.26 lakh (ex-showroom) in India for the Steel Silver variant. Similarly, the Red variant which previously carried a price tag of Rs 5.20 lakh (ex-showroom) has now been hiked to Rs 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similarly, the brand’s <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/benelli/502c/">502C</a> also has become dearer by Rs. 16,000 in India. Prices of the motorcycle which previously started at Rs 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Matte Cognac Red colour have now been increased to Rs. 5.52 lakh (ex-showroom). The Glossy Black model which was available at Rs 5.41 lakh (ex-showroom) now costs Rs 5.57 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Meanwhile, the top-rung Matte Black unit now costs Rs 5.62 lakh (ex-showroom), which is a premium of Rs 16,00 over its previous price tag of Rs 5.46 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is to be noted that the price hike does not bring about any revisions to the motorcycle. Both the motorcycles still come with the same BS-VI compliant 500cc parallel-twin engine, a liquid-cooled engine that outputs 46.8bhp at 8,500rpm and 46Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

Within a few months of its previous hike in prices, Benelli has once again increased the prices of its products in India. The brand's Leoncino 500 and the 502C have gotten an increase of Rs. 16,000 in India.

<p>Benelli India has a total of three motorcycles on sale in the 500cc middle-weight class – Leoncino 500, TRK 502, and the TRK 502X. The Italian motorcycle maker has introduced another product in the lineup, the Benelli Leoncino 500 Sport in the international market.</p>

<p>As the name suggests, Benelli Leoncino 500 Sport is based on the Leoncino 500 scrambler, but sports cafe-racer-like styling. The single-piece handlebar has been replaced by clip-on and the exhaust sports a new stubby twin-barrel&nbsp;design. The motorcycle gets 17-inch spoke-wired wheels that have been borrowed from the adventure-tourer 502X.</p>

<p>The motorcycle also gets an arched visor that adds more to the cafe racer appeal. There is also a very utilitarian saddle bag on the Leoncino 500 Sport. With all the additional bits, the motorcycle has gained 2kg over the Leoncino 500 and the Sport weighs in at 198kg.</p>

<p>The engine a 499cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor, the same unit found all the 500cc Benelli’s sold in India. The motor is tuned to deliver 1Bhp and 1Nm over the Leoncino 500 and the Sport produces 48Bhp at 8,500rpm and peak torque of 47Nm at 5,500rpm. The cycle parts are the same as the Leoncino 500. For suspension, there are 50mm upside-down forks in the front and a mono-shock in the rear. The braking setup has been carried forward too, with 320mm twin disc in the front and a 260mm disc in the rear.</p>

<p>There is a very slim chance of Benelli introducing&nbsp;the Leoncino 500 Sport in the Indian market as the company already has a strong middle-weight lineup in India, but if launched, the Leoncino Sport 500 could directly rival the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. However, Only time will tell if Benelli India plans on bringing the Leoncino 500 Sport or&nbsp;the BS6 Leoncino 250, or the new generation of the 302R fully-faired motorcycle first.</p>

<p><strong><em>The Leoncino 500 becomes&nbsp;Benelli's third BS6 product for India. Surprisingly, it's priced about&nbsp;₹20,000 less than its predecessor.</em></strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Just a few days after launching the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/bs6-benelli-trk-502-launched-cheaper-than-before-108953/">BS6 version of the TrK 502 ADV</a>, Benelli has launched the BS6 Leoncino 500 today, which is priced at&nbsp;₹4.60 lakh for the Steel Grey colour option. At this price point, Benelli claims the Leoncino 500 has&nbsp;become&nbsp;the most affordable parallel-twin street scrambler in the country. Speaking of affordability, the BS6 version is also priced about&nbsp;₹20,000 less than its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/benelli-leoncino-launched-106383/">BS4 iteration (launch price comparison)</a>. This time though, the&nbsp;Leoncino red colour option&nbsp;will attract an extra&nbsp;₹10,000, as it is priced at&nbsp;₹4.70 lakh (all price figures are ex-showroom).</p>

<p>Apart from the shift to BS6, there are no&nbsp;other changes to the motorcycle, both visually and mechanically. It's still powered by a 500cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled&nbsp;motor, which develops an unchanged 46.8bhp @&nbsp;at 8,500rpm and 46Nm of torque @&nbsp;6,000rpm. The engine comes paired with a six-speed gearbox. A 50mm inverted fork and a laterally-mounted hydraulic monoshock (rebound&nbsp;&amp; pre-load adjustable) manage the front and rear suspension duties, respectively, while dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 260mm rotor at the back complete the brake setup. Switchable, dual-channel ABS comes as standard as well.</p>

<p>An important update worth mentioning here is that Benelli is now offering a three-year/unlimited-kilometre&nbsp;standard warranty on the BS6 Leoncino 500, whereas for&nbsp;the BS4 model, it was a five-year period. Bookings for the BS6 model are open at&nbsp;₹10,000 and can be made either online or at any Benelli authorised dealership.</p>

BS6 Benelli Leoncino 500 launched at Rs 4.60 lakh

Just a few days after launching the BS6 version of the TrK 502 ADV, Benelli has launched the BS6 Leoncino 500 today, priced at ₹4.60 lakh for the Steel Grey colour option. The Leoncino Red, however, will attract an extra ₹10,000 as it is priced at ₹4.70 lakh (all price figures are ex-showroom).

<p>A legend once told me, ‘whatever you do on the first day of the year, i.e., 1st January, you end up doing that throughout the entire year.’ For years, I thought it to be a silly superstition and outright farcical. However, recent events gave way to a moment of reflection upon this idea, allowing me to wonder if it could be true after all.&nbsp;</p>

<p>You see, on the first day of 2019, I happened to be enjoying an epic motorcycle trip in the Himalayas. And, since then, it’s become a monthly exercise (of sorts) to go on a road-trip on a kickass motorcycle. Now, last month, in keeping with this trend, I went on a ride that I had been planning for a couple of years. Okay, it might not be as exotic as you’re thinking, but for a first-timer, a ride from Mumbai to Goa can be quite an event.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon after I made up my mind, I rang up Jared and told him of my cunning plan – to make this trip official by aligning it with another official event – TVS MotoSoul.&nbsp;Jared liked the idea, of course – he never says no to a road-trip.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The next thing to do was to sort out the bikes. For Jared, it was an easy choice – he picked our Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 long-termer. While I was still deciding on what bike to arrange for, Jared suggested that Benelli’s new Leoncino 500 would be a nice choice alongside the Interceptor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was a good idea, for both bikes are quite similar in their appeal – and this would allow for an official comparison. Both are modern classics – okay, the Benelli is touted as a ‘Scrambler’ but that’s far from the truth – and both produce identical power, and both are powered by parallel-twin engines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Of course, the Interceptor is much more affordable, and has turned out to be a phenomenon ever since its launch – not to mention, it’s one of our ‘Best of 2019.’ However, the idea behind the comparison was to see which one of these is an ideal long-distance cruiser and more fun to ride on Indian roads. The next thing to do was to fire up the engines and ride into the sunset…</p>

<p><strong>Hitting it straight</strong><br />
From Mumbai to Kolhapur, the roads are wide and traffic is moderate, meaning we could both open the taps on our bikes and cruise comfortably at three-digit speeds. The Benelli’s liquid-cooled 500cc parallel-twin is a peach of an engine and delivers 47bhp and 46Nm of torque in a very smooth manner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And out on the open road, it feels even more relaxed – there are mild vibrations above 6,000rpm, but, overall, it’s a very tractable powertrain. Oh, and I love the ‘big bike’ in-line-4-like noises that it makes. However, what I didn’t find as suitable was its suspension setup – the ride quality was super firm, and, that means at high speeds your spine feels all the thuds and undulations that you encounter on our roads. The 50mm front fork is rebound adjustable, and the mono-shock at the back is adjustable for both rebound and pre-load. However, whatever adjustments you make, the ride is always choppy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After our lunch stop at Kolhapur, we switched bikes. Now, while I’ve ridden the Interceptor before, I’ve done so only for very short durations. As a result, I was curiously eager to spend more time with the Interceptor and to see the reason behind all the hype surrounding this modern classic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 47bhp 648cc parallel-twin motor here is a gem in the true sense of the word. There are absolutely no vibrations, and it feels very sophisticated right from the go. Unlike the Leoncino, which makes angry noises as&nbsp;<br />
it pops and crackles, the Interceptor produces a deep and refined rumble of a typical old-school twin motor.&nbsp;<br />
On the move, the Interceptor offers more grunt too – its engine delivers more torque (52Nm) and has a wider powerband. The suspension setup is well calibrated for our roads, but it also errs on the stiffer side, meaning your spine does get occasional thumps. However, its ride doesn’t feel as unforgiving as the Benelli’s.&nbsp;</p>

<p>What really makes the ride uncomfortable is the Interceptor’s soft and narrow saddle. After a couple of hours of riding, the seat tends to sink in and your back starts hurting. Also, compared to the Benelli, which has Scrambler-like tall handlebars and a low-seat, the Interceptor has slightly front-biased and aggressive ergonomics, which can get exhausting after 3 to 4 hours of riding.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Ghat &nbsp;it out</strong><br />
Once out of Kolhapur, Jared suggested that we take a detour from Nipani towards Sawantwadi and Amboli, as it’s a more scenic road. Plus, this section has some amazing ghats of Amboli. Now who needs a second invitation when you’ve got a setting like this and you’re on a fast motorcycle? Jared and I were absolutely loving these bikes on this stretch of road. And it was quite a revelation, because our bikes weren’t really meant for corner carving, but, still, we were having so much fun!&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, while I was absolutely gob-smacked by the composure of the Interceptor around fast corners, I couldn’t really ignore the fact that Jared was getting farther and farther away after every corner, before he completely disappeared from sight! &nbsp;After 20 minutes or so, I saw him again, waiting by the roadside for me. As soon as he saw me, he kind of exclaimed, ‘The Benelli is so bloody awesome on these roads, man!’ And it must be, because Jared never misses an opportunity to grumble and call me ‘slow,’ if I happen to fall behind for some reason. So, it was a refreshing change, thanks to the Benelli.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Beached</strong><br />
After nearly 10 hours on the road, we made it to Goa. It was a gruelling ride – well, every road trip on Indian roads is, that goes without saying – but this one as filled with immense fun nonetheless. As for the bikes, I absolutely loved the Leoncino when I first tested it in Delhi, however, on this road-trip, I realised that my first encounter with the Benelli was a bit of a holiday romance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great bike for short rides, but its ride quality is simply unacceptable for our roads, and even on the smoothest of smooth stretches, there’s a constant vertical movement to the wheels – the ride never settles down.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Interceptor, on the other, does everything a bit better and is a more rounded package. And that’s before you consider the huge price gap between the two – ₹&nbsp;2.56 vs ₹&nbsp;4.79 lakh (both ex-showroom). Of course, the Benelli comes with a number of modern bells and whistles like LED headlamps, but even that doesn’t justify its high premium. And, so, if I had to pick one of the two, it’ll undoubtedly be the Interceptor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, that said, after our long, long ride, I realised that neither of these bikes is meant for long-distance riding – they just aren’t comfortable if you have to ride 8 to 10 hours in a day. And if I have to do a long-distance haul from Mumbai to Goa again, I think I’ll be much happier with a sports-tourer – the Yamaha R3 or TVS Apache RR 310, perhaps. And, with that, you are now allowed to throw brickbats at me for wasting your time with this story. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>Italians have a unique way of doing things, don’t they? Be it their art, food, or machines, everything they make is full of flavour and pizzazz. And when it comes to their motorcycles, it gets even better – you can really feel the passion and engineering that goes into making an Italian motorcycle when you ride one.</p>

<p>Now, Benelli says that it’s Italian too. Which is not untrue, if you ignore the fact that it’s owned by the Chinese, and it manufactures motorcycles in China. In Benelli’s defence, it claims that its Italian soul is still intact, and its new bikes still burst with passion.</p>

<p>The latest example is the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/benelli-leoncino-500-review-first-ride-106463/">Leoncino 500</a>. It’s a scrambler, and its name is Italian for a lion’s cub. At the same time, it’s also a reflection on the original Benelli Leoncinos from the 50s and 60s. The question, however, is – is it the real deal? Or are we being served chow mein here in the name of spaghetti?</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/videos/benelli-leoncino-500-video-106488/">Leoncino 500</a> was first showcased roughly 4 years ago at the 2015 EICMA motor show, but it only made it to India this year. Despite being late to the country, it doesn’t look outdated – in fact, it looks chic with its modern retro design and beefy appearance. There are some rough edges, for instance, the quality of plastics isn’t the best and the all-digital instrument cluster is hardly legible under direct sunlight. However, these niggles go right out the window when you crank its 500cc parallel-twin engine.</p>

<p>The engine produces a deep sonorous rumble and is super refined. With 47bhp and 46Nm on tap, the performance isn’t ground-breaking, but it’s quick with a strong low and mid-range. And since it makes noises like a big bike, the riding experience gets even better as you gain speed.</p>

<p>You can attack corners confidently with the 500 too. Sure, it doesn’t like quick direction changes, but once you have it leaned over, it holds its line beautifully. However, this planted and surefooted feel comes at the expense of the ride quality, which is very bumpy!</p>

<p>Overall, for its price (₹4.79 lakh), the Leoncino 500 is a pretty good motorcycle – it’s a relatively affordable big bike that can be used daily, without breaking the bank. Sure, it has Chinese origins now, but, at heart, it still feels very Italian.</p>

<em><strong>Benelli’s latest motorcycle, the Leoncino, literally translates to lion’s cub. But is its bite as threatening as its roar?&nbsp;</strong></em></p>

<p>Say hello to the latest workhorse from Benelli. Actually, ‘horse’ doesn’t seem appropriate in this case – it’s really a lion’s cub. And I mean, really! The motorcycle that you see here is called the Leoncino 500 – Italian for Lion’s cub. But, the name aside, the Leoncino is Benelli’s first Scrambler motorcycle for our market and is designed to cater to those with retro-modern tastes. So, is the Leoncino really a King – no pun intended – in the making?</p>

<p><strong>New, but not young</strong><br />
While the Leoncino 500 went on sale in India only a few weeks ago, it’s not really a new bike. You see, it was first showcased roughly 4 years ago at the EICMA show in 2015. And since then it has been regularly featured in the ‘upcoming’ section on our website. It took some time – in fact, a long time – but thanks to Benelli’s new business partners, the Leoncino has finally reached the company’s showroom floors in India.</p>

<p>Despite its age, the Leoncino doesn’t look dated. In fact, it looks quite modern and stylish. Like any other modern-day Scrambler, it too has compact dimensions and a neo-retro look. It feels really special. You see, Leoncino is a revered moniker for Benelli – for the name has its own legacy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The original Leoncino bikes were made in post war Italy in the 50s and 60s. So, continuing the legacy, the bike gets some special bits, such as special metal plaques on the tank, as well as the ‘Lion of Pesaro’ motif on the front fender. The paint finish is very good in terms of quality, and the all-LED lighting, narrow fuel tank, thick front forks, fat tyres, and wide handlebar make it look really imposing. To my eyes, it actually looks a bit like Simba (think Lion King) – cute and aggressive in equal measure.</p>

<p>Another highlight of the bike is its all-digital instrument cluster that looks very cool. However, under direct sunlight, it’s quite difficult to read the display. Also, the switchgear quality could have been better, as the indicator controls feel quite tacky.</p>

<p><strong>Small heart, big guts</strong><br />
Powering the Leoncino is the same liquid-cooled 500cc parallel-twin that does duty in the TRK 502. The engine develops 47bhp and 46Nm of torque. While, on paper, this doesn’t seem like enough, but, in my experience, this twin-cylinder engine is the heart and soul of the bike. The power delivery is super strong and is spread out evenly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But what’s really impressive is that it’s super refined and vibe-free. The torque spread is creamy, and the motor revs all the way up to the redline, at 9,000rpm, without exhibiting any reluctance. Sure, the performance isn’t ground-breaking by any measure, but it’s not a slow bike at all. You can hit triple-digit speeds in no time, and it keeps on pulling even after you hit the tonne.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bike’s throttle response is very smooth, and it doesn’t jerk at low revs. The 6-speed gearbox also plays along nicely, with effortless and precise shifts. The clutch action, however, feels a little heavy, and the engine can get really hot in stop-and-go traffic. The most exciting aspect of its powertrain, for me at least, is the exhaust sound. In typical Benelli fashion, the Leoncino produces a deep and throaty rumble, which makes it sound like a ‘big’ bike.</p>

<p><strong>On firm ground</strong><br />
Benelli can market the Leoncino 500 as a Scrambler all they like, but, in all honesty, it’s a very road-focussed motorcycle. The suspension setup, alloy wheels, and Pirelli Angel GT tyres all point towards that fact. The 50mm front fork is rebound adjustable, while the off-set monoshock at the rear is adjustable for both rebound and pre-load. Overall, the setup is tuned for a jarringly firm ride! On bumpy roads, this gets bothersome. Similarly, at high speeds, there’s a lot of vertical movement from the suspension, and the ride feels choppy.</p>

<p>On the flip side, the tautness of the springs makes it beautifully involving to ride on twisty roads. Despite its 185kg mass (dry), the Benelli feels quite light on its feet. It’s not a sharp or a quick-steering motorcycle though, owing to its fat 120mm (front) and 160mm (rear) section tyres. But, on the whole, the Leoncino is an enjoyable machine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The wide handlebar, roomy saddle, and upright foot-pegs make it a comfortable cruiser for long rides, but, of course, the stiff suspension and lack of wind protection might act against you if you take it for a long ride. Deceleration duties are carried out by a 320mm dual-disc setup at the front and a 260mm disc at the rear. As a result, its braking performance is spot on. You can also turn off the ABS using a button on the handlebar.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Verdict</strong><br />
There are two things that are wrong with the Leoncino – it’s bumpy ride, and the fact that it’s not an outright Scrambler. However, I truly believe that it’s a phenomenal motorcycle for the road – one that you can ride and enjoy on a daily basis. Plus, it definitely looks the part, produces an awesome sound, and is a very tempting product at `4.79 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Above all, the reason why I find myself gravitating heavily towards the Leoncino is that, after riding it for just for over a day, this little cub has already started pulling at my heartstrings. So, if you’re considering this bike and your head tells you otherwise… well, listen to your heart. &nbsp;</p>

Benelli Leoncino 500 Review: First Ride

With the Leoncino 500, Benelli has further expanded its range to accommodate a Lion. After all, the bike is named after the beasty animal. So, does the new Benelli pack enough horses to dominate a jungle? Here's the answer.

<p><b>The Leoncino will become the second new model, after the TrK 502, to be sold since change of management last year. The neo-retro offering will sport the same engine as the TrK 502</b></p>

<p>A teaser released by Benelli India tells us that the company is all set to bring in the Leoncino to India on 5<sup>th</sup> August. The Leoncino has been on the cards for India for the past few years. In fact, even under the management of DSK, the neo-retro offering was expected to be launched in India. But it seems that Mahavir Group is continuing from where DSK left off.</p>

<p>Coming to the motorcycle itself, the Leoncino is based on the same motor as the TrK 502 and 502X. The 499.6cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor pushes out 47 horses and 46Nm. The Leoncino will also be paired with a 6-speed transmission. Up front, the Leoncino sits on upside down forks with 125mm of travel. Stopping power comes from two 320mm discs at the front and a 260mm one at the back, both of which will be assisted by ABS. In the global market, the Leoncino is on sale in two variants – standard with 17-inch wheels and a scrambler with larger 19-inch wheels. The motorcycle tips the scale at 186kg.</p>

<p>Expect the Leoncino to be priced less that the TrK range, starting at around Rs 4.9-5 lakh (ex-showroom). This will be the second new model to be introduced since Mahavir Group took over the business. The motorcycle doesn’t quite have a direct competitor at that price or at a similar displacement. That being said, Ducati offers the Scrambler Icon and Triumph has the Street Scrambler on offer in India.</p>

Benelli Leoncino launch on 5th August

A teaser released by Benelli India tells us that the company is all set to bring in the Leoncino to India on 5th August. It is based on the same motor as the TrK 502 and 502X. The 499.6cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor pushes out 47 horses and 46Nm.

<p>Benelli India has started putting out teasers of its next launch on its social media pages. Based on comments and responses, we think that the bike in question here could be the Leoncino 500. While the European markets get the Leoncino 250 &amp; the Leoncino Trail (off-road version) as well, India is most likely to get the single road-spec 500cc derivative of the bike. Benelli India might expand the Leoncino line-up based on customer response.</p>

<p>The Leoncino 500 is powered by Benelli's 499.6cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor, which develops 46.9bhp &amp; 46Nm of torque. While it is styled like a scrambler, the defining design element of the Leoncino 500 is its visible tubular steel frame, which wraps itself around the engine. An all-black theme running across the engine, frame, suspension forks, wheels, and the headlight casing give it a really butch appeal. Apart from the Red colour, the Leoncino 500 is also available in Grey and Black colours.</p>

<p>The bike gets adjustable 50mm USD forks and an adjustable mono-shock setup at the rear. Braking duties are carried out by a 320mm dual disc mounted between 4-piston callipers at the front, while the rear wheel gets a 260mm single disc with a twin-piston calliper. The Euro-spec model also gets ABS as standard and a 12.7-litre fuel tank. <p>As the teasers online don’t give a hint of the new bike's exact launch date, some rumours suggest that the launch could take place in as early as August. However, we're yet to receive a formal confirmation. Also, all the above-mentioned specs belong to the Euro-spec model. It will be interesting to see how many changes are made to the bike before it arrives on our shores.</p>
