Bharat Mobility Expo 2025: At the latest edition of the Auto&nbsp;Expo, BMW has launched the fourth-generation X3 SUV in India. The price of the car starts at Rs 75.80 lakh and goes up to Rs 77.80 lakh. Both mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.&nbsp;The 2025 X3 will be available in two variants: the 20 (petrol) and the 20d (diesel). This follows the global reveal in June last year, where the SUV was unveiled with a new platform and a completely refreshed design that aligns with BMW's contemporary design language. The X3’s return to India marks its first appearance after a hiatus of over a year. Besides this, BMW has introduced the Mini Cooper S equipped with the John Cooper Works Pack while showcasing its existing range, which includes the M5, 7 Series, M4, i7, 5 Series LWB, M2, and X7.

<h2>New BMW X3: Design and Dimensions</h2>

The 2025 model spans 4,755mm in length, 1,920mm in width, and 1,660mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,865mm. The new X3 is 33mm longer and 28mm wider than the outgoing model. It is also 25mm lower than before. Additionally, the international release included a long-wheelbase (LWB) version, offering a 2,975mm length and an extended wheelbase of 2,975mm.

The fourth-gen X3 introduces a thoroughly reimagined design. The grille has grown noticeably larger, paired with sleek LED headlights that feature a redesigned DRL pattern. The front bumper showcases sharp lines, aggressive angles, and a substantial air intake, emphasising its bold aesthetic. While the side profile bears some resemblance to the outgoing model, closer inspection highlights softened contours and flush-mounted door handles, giving it a more streamlined and minimalist look. A fresh alloy wheel design further contributes to its updated appearance. At the rear, the changes are striking, with new split LED tail lamps incorporating a Y-shaped light signature. The number plate has been repositioned from the tailgate to the bumper, adding to the modernised rear design.

<h2>New BMW X3: Powertrain Options</h2>

On the mechanical front, the X3 20 petrol is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 206bhp of maximum power and 310Nm of peak torque, while the diesel X3 20d delivers 197bhp and 400Nm. Both variants are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The model goes from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 242km/h. 
BMW has decided against offering the six-cylinder 30d in India, but the high-performance M50 version is expected to be introduced in limited quantities by 2025.

<h2>New BMW X3: Features, Rivals</h2>

The interior follows the design trends of other recent BMW models, with a complete overhaul that includes a 14.9-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, both seamlessly integrated. The system is powered by BMW's latest iDrive technology, featuring QuickSelect and Operating System 9 for improved ease of use. This version allows video streaming, audio, and in-car gaming apps, along with 3-D and satellite views in the navigation system.&nbsp;

The cabin is enhanced with ambient lighting and illuminated details in the door sills and centre console. Furthermore, the latest X3 comes equipped with electronically adjustable and heated seats, an electric tailgate, flat-bottom steering, powered ORVMs, a new gear selector, an optional head-up display, and three-zone climate control. It also includes BMW's Live Cockpit Plus, which provides cloud-based BMW Maps navigation. On the safety front, it offers speed limit assist, Lane Change Warning, rearview camera, reversing assistant, BMW Driving and Parking Assistant, and Lane Departure Warning.

As far as market rivalry is concerned, the X3 will maintain competition with the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60 in India.

The new 2024 X3 SUV is monolithic in design says BMW, but at the same time it’s also cutting edge inside and out. Our Founder and Editor-in-Chief Dhruv Behl heads to Munich to drive the brand new BMW X3 2024 SUV before its India launch in January 2025.

If you do an image search for the word ‘monolith,’ you’ll probably be served up visuals of the Pantheon or Colosseum in Rome. A motor vehicle is unlikely to show up. And yet, the designers at BMW want you to believe that the new X3 has a monolithic design!&nbsp;

You have to hand it to them, though, since the all-new, fourth-generation X3 is certainly a very clean design, and really does appear to be crafted from a single block of high-tensile steel. In fact, they do appear to have played a trick on the eye, in the sense that the X3 is 34mm longer and 29mm wider than its predecessor, and yet viewed on its own it almost appears smaller in proportion than the outgoing model. The cleverest trick they’ve played is actually around back, where not only is there a new taillight signature but also a rear bumper that’s seamlessly integrated into the tailgate.&nbsp;

There is one quizzical aspect to the design though. The kidney grilles are larger, of course, but they’ve also got both vertical and diagonal lines running through them. Having said that, while this looks incongruous at first, perhaps it’s one of those design features that will grow on you over time. Or perhaps it’s merely a look-at-me element on what is otherwise a clean design. The grille also has another definitive look-at-me element, and that’s the fact that it lights up at night – which is certainly anything but discreet.

<h2>The Perfect BMW SUV?</h2>

But enough about the looks, after all I’m by no means an arbiter of good taste. But I am a former <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/x3/">X3</a> owner, so I know a little bit about the legacy of this model. And, for me, the X3 was always the perfect BMW SUV. Or SAV – Sports Activity Vehicle – in BMW speak. And rightly so, in the sense that they really did introduce driving pleasure and an element of sportiness to the SUV space with the introduction of the X5 in 1999. The X3 dutifully followed this benchmark, and even built on it further with its more compact dimensions – dimensions that I’ve always felt are better suited to our conditions. I owned the X3 30d, which had the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel motor producing 276 horsepower. And to say that it was a powerhouse would be an understatement. Unfortunately, the 3.0-litre diesel was discontinued from the Indian market, and what we were left with were the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel models – both of which continue with this generation as well. The difference being that they now also get a 48V mild hybrid system, which adds an electric motor that sits between the engine and transmission and provides both a boost in power and also improves fuel economy.&nbsp;

The car we drove was the 20 xDrive, which had a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor that produces 208 horsepower and 330Nm of torque, enabling this model to sprint to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds. Power isn’t staggering, but it’s certainly adequate at all times. The electric boost, which is just under 20 of the 208 horses, is seamless and most welcome during quick overtaking manoeuvres. The transmission remains the ZF 8-speed, which is probably the best automatic transmission out there. Our test car was the M-Sport version, which has massive 20-inch wheels, with equally enormous 285-section rear tyres.

The end result is that the X3 has tremendous grip levels, and once you add the electronics into the mix you soon realise that it’s virtually impossible to get the X3 unsettled, no matter how dim-witted your inputs. The one area in which the X3 is very un-BMW-like, however, is steering feel. In Comfort mode, you’re always correcting the steering in the on-center position because it's so disconnected from the front wheels that it’s a bit disconcerting. Once you start turning in either direction it loads up nicely and feels quite direct, but in the straight-ahead position you’re always having to make minor adjustments because of how vague it is. It’s a little better in Sport, but on the whole it leaves a lot to be desired – especially since, even if actual steering feel is a thing of the past, BMW’s have always inspired confidence and been engaging to drive.

In that sense, the X3 certainly appears to be aimed at being more middle-of-the-road, perhaps to appeal to a wider audience. At any rate, it’s lost an element of driving appeal that I for one greatly enjoyed in the past.&nbsp;

<h2>Emphasis on Design &amp; Technology&nbsp;</h2>

You can tell, however, that the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/">BMW</a> engineers have put a lot of effort into design and technology – especially in the cabin of this car. In fact, you could even define the cabin as continuing the monolithic design philosophy. After all, it’s also incredibly clean. The dashboard is dominated by BMW’s massive wraparound screen, and there are no buttons whatsoever – even the volume control knob has been moved to the center console. The part of the dash that’s visible appears to have been moulded out of a single block of stone. Our test car was fitted with what BMW calls its Econeer upholstery, which is made of recycled materials, and is actually a very nice pattern and fabric on the dash and the door panels. When it comes to India, I’m sure the X3 will have the option of leather – either real or synthetic. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

The X3 is also littered with beautifully lit panels on the dash, center console and the doors, which change colour depending on which driving mode you’re in. iDrive 9 is seamless and easy to use – it certainly remains the industry standard for ease of use – and it now also gets augmented reality navigation, which is very useful when you use BMW’s in-built navigation. But, like with the driving experience, there is one very un-BMW-like element in this cabin – and that’s the hard, sharp and scratchy plastic that has been used for the door pulls. And that’s quite quizzical, simply because this is an everyday touchpoint. After all, BMW set the benchmark with its cabin plastics 25 years ago, so I simply can’t fathom how this particular component made it through quality control. Fortunately, quality elsewhere is excellent, as you would expect.

As a former X3 owner, and a BMW fan frankly, if you ask me, I think that the X3 has lost a bit of its appeal from the driver’s seat. Perhaps that means it really will appeal to a wider audience. It’s certainly cutting edge and comfortable. The design is clean, it’s laden with tech and it’s very refined.

2024 BMW X3 Review: Monolith for the Road

It’s monolithic in design says BMW. But it’s also cutting edge inside and out. We head to Munich to drive the brand-new X3 before its launch in January 2025.

<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/">BMW</a> has introduced the Long Wheelbase (LWB) edition of the X3 in China, marking the SUV's first time in this configuration.&nbsp;The X3 LWB will be produced and sold exclusively in China. It has two different variants: the 25L xDrive and the 30L xDrive. These models will be manufactured at the Shenyang factory, a joint venture between BMW and Brilliance Automotive.&nbsp;The X3 LWB has the same&nbsp;design language as other BMW SUVs, such as the X1 and X2. It looks similar to the&nbsp;global-spec X3 that was unveiled in June.&nbsp;The LWB model is stretched by 110mm to a 2,975mm wheelbase,&nbsp;resulting in a total length of 4,865mm, as compared to 4,755mm of the conventional model.&nbsp;However, the width at 1,920mm, stays constant. <h2>BMW X3 LWB: Powertrain</h2>

Both X3 LWB versions are expected to be driven by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with differing performance outputs.&nbsp;The X3 30L xDrive is touted to produce 254bhp and 400Nm, whereas the X3 25L xDrive claims 188bhp and 310Nm.&nbsp;An 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive is offered for both variants.

<h2>BMW X3 LWB: Other Highlights</h2>

<h2>BMW X3 LWB: India Launch on the Cards?</h2>

Although the X3 LWB is currently only available in China,&nbsp;the manufacturer's tradition of introducing long-wheelbase models in different nations following their initial debut in China raises the possibility of bringing this stretched X3 into India.&nbsp;For the uninitiated, the ex-showroom pricing of the current generation X3 is Rs 72.50 lakh in India.&nbsp;It is currently only offered in one version, the X3 xDrive20d M Sport. While there is no formal announcement, the new-gen BMW X3 is expected to go on sale in India next year.&nbsp;

First-ever BMW X3 LWB Debuts in China; India Launch on the Cards?

BMW has introduced the Long Wheelbase (LWB) edition of the X3 in China, marking the SUV's first time in this configuration. While there is no formal announcement, the new-gen BMW X3 is expected to go on sale in India next year. 

BMW has launched the X3 xDrive20d M Sport Shadow Edition in India for Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is offered in two metallic colour schemes: Brooklyn Grey and Carbon Black. It features a BMW Laser Light with blue highlights, an all-black kidney grille, and glossy black tailpipes, all of which add to its rugged appeal. The premium SUV rides on 19-inch Y-spoke design 887 M alloy wheels. Its other noteworthy features include black window graphics and roof rails, among others. The cabin features three-zone automatic&nbsp;climate control, roller sunblinds, electroplated controls, six dimmable ambient lighting settings, and a panoramic glass roof.&nbsp;

<h2>2025 BMW X3: Platform</h2>

The upcoming BMW X3 series is generating a lot of interest since it will employ two different platforms.&nbsp;The all-electric iX3 (codenamed NA5) will use the Neue&nbsp;Klasse&nbsp;platform, while the conventional and plug-in hybrid X3s (codenamed G45) will stick to the CLAR platform.&nbsp;The possibility for distinctive design components and cutting-edge interior improvements exists thanks to these diverse structures.

<h2>2025 BMW X3: Key Design Details</h2>

The 2024 version of the X3 will not&nbsp;merely be a straightforward facelift since it is a six-year-old model. Therefore, when it comes to appearance, the X1 and X3 will be extremely similar, sharing the same flush door handles, window line that extends past the C-pillar, hood that wraps over the top of the front fenders, and larger, square-shaped kidney grilles. However, to tell the two apart,&nbsp;there will be one apparent difference between the two.&nbsp;The DRLs of the X3 appear to curve below the primary LED light unit rather than above it, in contrast to the X1, where they are curved like the two&nbsp;"r"s. And compared to the X1, the Y-shaped rear lights on the X3 will be far more recognisable.

Coming to the rear end, the taillights, which have two parallel light bars that extend into the trunk and an X motif that wraps around the fenders, are likewise not particularly surprising. Moreover, as you would expect on a crossover, there is a roof spoiler and a tailgate.

As far as the model's interior is concerned, the entirely revamped dashboard with a curved dual-screen display, which serves as the centerpiece for the current infotainment unit&nbsp;in the&nbsp;BMW X3, is one remarkable&nbsp;interior element. Each half of the dual-screen display is devoted to different functions. Intriguingly, BMW's newest iDrive 8.5 system is anticipated to debut in the all-new&nbsp;X3's iDrive system.

<h2>2025 BMW X3: Launch Timeline</h2>

The auto major&nbsp;will introduce the updated X3 in 2024, but there won't be an iX3. This is due to the all-electric version switching to the Neue Klasse platform which is separate from the CLAR-based model. The electrified version of the&nbsp;vehicle and the&nbsp;i3 Sedan are expected to go on sale in 2025. Besides this, both are also anticipated to get the full M treatment in the coming years. The production of the updated X3 will take place&nbsp;at the firm's Spartanburg facility.&nbsp;
