Alex Marquez’s 2025 MotoGP title hopes took a hit after he crashed out of the Dutch Grand Prix and broke his hand. The Gresini Ducati rider collided with KTM’s Pedro Acosta at Turn 5. The crash happened as Marquez entered the back straight, possibly after his front brake lever hit Acosta’s rear tyre. He was taken to the medical centre, where a scan confirmed a fracture in his hand. He will now have surgery in Madrid. His participation in the upcoming German Grand Prix is uncertain. With only two weeks to recover, it’s a tough situation. Alex has been in great form this season, often competing with factory riders while riding a year-old Ducati. His pace and strong results have made him a serious title contender, so this injury comes at a bad time.

Yamaha had a rough outing with Fabio Quartararo being their only rider to finish, albeit in a low 12th place. His teammate Alex Rins crashed out early. Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) was the highest-finishing Honda rider in 13th, while Joan Mir also crashed out. It wasn't a good day for rookies either with Marco Bezzecchi (VR46) and Aprilia's wildcard Lorenzo Savadori not finishing the race due to crashes during the weekend. &nbsp;Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) also couldn't race because of injuries.

On a sunny Saturday at Assen, Francesco Bagnaia controlled the Dutch MotoGP Sprint race from start to finish. Having secured pole position and led throughout practice, Bagnaia extended his lead over championship leader Jorge Martin. Aprilia's Maverick Vinales rounded out the podium. Martin remains ahead in the championship by 15 points going into Sunday's main event. Bagnaia's Ducati teammate, Enea Bastianini, demonstrated an impressive fight by climbing through the pack to finish fourth. The Gresini team, however, endured a challenging race. Alex Marquez incurred a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits. Marc Marquez, who displayed early promise by reaching fifth on the opening lap, suffered a disappointing crash early in laps. Aleix Espargaro, already compromised by a Friday fall, unfortunately, became another victim when he crashed heavily from sixth place on the penultimate corner of the final lap.

Honda riders fared less well. Joan Mir was their fastest, finishing in 14th, ahead of Augusto Fernandez (Tech3 GasGas) and Johann Zarco (LCR). Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse) also faced a long lap penalty and ended up in 17th. The race concluded with Takaaki Nakagami (LCR) and Alex Rins (Yamaha) – who rejoined after a lap 9 crash – rounding out the finishers.

While competing in the Italian Grand Prix earlier this month, Joan Mir suffered injuries that forced him to miss the next two races, the Mugello GP and the German GP at the Sachsenring last weekend. The latest setback in Mir's injury history follows his forced absence from the Argentine Grand Prix, which he had to skip following a crash in the MotoGP Sprint at Termas de Rio Hondo the day before the main event.

This weekend's Dutch TT will be Lecuona's second race in Assen this season; in April, he had a rough WorldSBK excursion there, finishing just 11th in the Superpole Race and crashing out of both long races.

Lecuona will be making his second MotoGP appearance of the season, after his substitution for Marc Marquez at the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez. Lecuona qualified last of the 23 riders that weekend, and he ended up finishing 16th in the Grand Prix and 18th in the Sprint.

In 1925, the Netherlands was the site of the first international motorcycle racing event. Despite being the oldest race on the MotoGPTM schedule, it didn't become an official fixture until 1949. Taking place at the TT Assen Circuit (also known as "The Cathedral of Speed"), this event is famed for the fervent supporters that go every year to cheer on their favourite riders and for the electric atmosphere it generates. Not too far from Amsterdam, in the bucolic Dutch countryside, is where you'll find the track, and the mood there on race weekend is sure to be electric.

This weekend is the eighth and last race before the summer break in the 2023 MotoGP World Championship, and it will take place in Assen. Iker Lecuona's primary goal this weekend will be to avoid any mishaps so that he can focus on the WorldSBK race in Donington, England, the following weekend.&nbsp;

This historical circuit is 4.542 km in length and has 18 turns. When braking, riders need to be at the top of their game to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the tyres. In addition to the many great places to watch the race on the track, the event itself promises to be magnificent.
