<p>Hamilton said: 'We knew today was all about damage limitation. We managed to work our way back into the points but ultimately, we didn’t have the pace to fight for much more today. If we had qualified better yesterday, than it may have been a little different. I enjoyed getting past several cars though and putting the Soft tyre to use in that opening stint. It felt good to move forwards but I’m a little disappointed as if we had a better Saturday, then the fight would have been for more points.</p>

<p>'Strategy-wise, we were looking at running to the end on the one-stop. I had a lock-up on the Hard tyre though and that meant we switched to the two-stop. It was a shame to lose the point for the fastest lap at the end, but I should have put in a quicker effort earlier on.'</p>

However, the race for the seven-time world champion might have been much better if he and Mercedes weren't on the wrong end of an early pitstop decision. The rain started shortly after the Zandvoort race, and Mercedes drivers stayed out for an extended period on slicks, which was a mistake as track conditions worsened. Hamilton went first with the mediums, which was a bad call once the rain began. Neither driver was called in by the team at the beginning of the race, allowing Russell to pass Norris and take the lead before Verstappen went in for inters.</p>

<p>Hamilton in his post-race interview said, "I didn’t really know how today was going to go – last night, I was wracking my brain about where we went wrong in qualifying and how we ended up P13, and how to climb back up. I wanted to start the race on an offset tyre compound, but then it turned out I was the only one in the field on a different tyre – and then the rain came. As a team, we made the wrong decision and paid the price, coming out last."</p>

<p>"I was really happy…. I got past the McLaren for example which on this track was not easy to do. I was quicker than Sainz at the end just needed DRS.” Asked what the outcome could have been had they made their right decisions, Hamilton responded: “I think today, in those conditions, if we had made the right call, I had the pace to be challenging the top two. I think we would’ve been challenging Max [Verstappen] if I’m really honest. Particularly when we got to the dry, pace-wise, we weren’t terribly far off. But, not saying we would beat them, but I think we would’ve been... It’s all nice if you think that way," he added.</p>

<p>Due to rumours around Sergio Perez's future and uncertainties about who will be at AlphaTauri next year, Ricciardo's injury has offered Lawson a chance to shine. <h2>F1 Dutch Grand Prix: Gasly's Podium Finish at Zandvoort</h2>

<p>Gasly began the race on Sunday in 12th place, but he took advantage of the difficult circumstances and moved up to challenge for the lead after switching to intermediate tyres early when rain fell on the opening lap. Gasly finished third after Sergio Perez's five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, after teammate Esteban Ocon's podium in Monaco and Sprint podium in Belgium.</p>

<p>He further said, "It was an insane race, so much action, so many tough calls to make but everything went well, from the decision-making to the strategy to the pit-stops, it was all very well executed. It was a tough final few laps with the conditions, but we managed it very well. <p>“Fifteen points feel good and also for the whole team, it’s a massive motivation boost after the top three in the Sprint in Spa, and straight away we get a podium, so I’m very pleased for all the guys,” he added.</p>

<p>Alpine departs from the Netherlands with a sixth-place position in the constructors' standings, but Gasly has moved up to the tenth spot in the drivers' championship, surpassing his teammate Ocon by one position and one point.</p>

In Zandvoort, the weather played a crucial role. As a result of Pierre Gasly's third-place finish, Alpine earned 16 points, but it is one of five teams that no longer can win the World Cup mathematically.</p>

This was done to provide more possibilities for reserve and academy drivers to train with actual F1 vehicles. Teams often refuse to make this change early in the season since drivers benefit more from practice time as they get used to the vehicle. Ferrari has not yet completed either of its required rookie sessions. Ferrari team principal Vasseur confirmed that Shwartzman would drive for the team during the first practice session in Zandvoort and again in Abu Dhabi.</p>

<p>In his explanation as to why Zandvoort was selected as one of the circuits, Ferrari team principal Vasseur stated, “Because it was the choice of the driver. I gave them the choice to do it, where they wanted to do it. Because for sure you can’t do it in Singapore, in Japan, in Las Vegas. Also, you have some Sprint events in Austin, Qatar, also that you can’t do it. Then you have the races with tyre allocation, a bit different, so it is also tricky to do it, meaning at the end of the day you don’t have so many options."</p>

<h2>F1: Ferrari’s 2023 Season</h2>

<p>The SF23 is a letdown for a team that last year delivered a car that gave Red Bull a run for its money. While Red Bull continued to make progress towards the 2023 season with RB19, Ferrari came to a standstill. This far, it has been the second-fastest qualifying car on average, but the gap between it and Red Bull is much wider than it was a year ago, and it has frequently failed to hold that position on race day. The outward-facing sidepods were retained from the previous year's design, but this time around the focus was put squarely on top-end acceleration.</p>

<p>As part of the post-war surge of racing fervour that swept over Europe, Zandvoort, like Silverstone, opened its doors for motor racing in 1948. The Dutch Automobile Racing Club, who conceived of the circuit, consulted 1927 Le Mans winner Sammy Davis on the design of the original 4.2km track, which consisted of a combination of permanent track and public roads winding within the dune landscape of the Zandvoort resort town.</p>

<p>The Zandvoort circuit winds and curves across the sand dunes, giving each lap an exciting, dizzying sense of motion.
