Maruti Suzuki Eeco Marks 15 Years in India, Over 12 Lakh Units Sold

<p>Maruti Suzuki has reported total sales of 1,97,471 units in February 2024, registering a 15 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase over February 2023's sales volume of 1,72,321 units. The company's entry-level models, the Alto and the S-Presso, continued to reel under stress, with sales plunging to 14,782 units compared to 21,875 units sold in February 2023. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki's subcompact cars – Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR – were delivered to 71,627 buyers, registering a 10 per cent YoY decline last month. Last but not least, the midsize Ciaz sedan also remained on a downward path and clocked 481 units.</p>

Under the hood, the&nbsp;Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets&nbsp;a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with 89bhp and 113Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The same mill, mated to&nbsp;a 5-speed MT, produces 76bhp and 98.5Nm while operating on CNG. The sedan&nbsp;comes in four&nbsp;variants — ZXi, ZXi+, VXi, and LXi — with ex-showroom pricing ranging from Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.39 lakh.&nbsp;</p>

Maruti Suzuki's entry-level models, the Alto and the S-Presso, continued to reel under stress, with sales plunging to 14,782 units compared to 21,875 units sold in February 2023.

<p>In December, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,37,551 vehicles, which is a 1.28% decrease year-on-year compared to 1,39,347 units delivered at the same time last year. It further reported monthly sales of 1,04,778 passenger cars, showing a 6.45% YoY drop from the 1,12,010 PVs delivered during the corresponding period last year.&nbsp;In addition, the company's overall domestic sales, which include third-party suppliers, commercial vehicles, and passenger cars, decreased by 5.86% to 1,10,667 units last month from 1,17,551 units sold&nbsp;in the same period the previous year.&nbsp;Moreover, in calendar year 2023, the company achieved its first-ever annual sales milestone of 2 million units, which comprised its highest-ever calendar year international shipments of 2,69,046 vehicles.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Maruti Suzuki Sales: Segment-wise December Sales Breakdown&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The sales at the Indo-Japanese company fell across all sub-segments. This includes a compact sector (Alto, S-Presso models) that saw an almost 74% YoY decline from 9765 units to 2,557 units in December, as well as a mid-size category (Ciaz) that saw a 57.6% drop from 1,154 cars to 489 units last month. <h2>Top-Ten Best-selling&nbsp;Cars in May 2023: Baleno, Swift, Wagon R, Creta, and More</h2>

<p>With over 18,733 units sold, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno was the best-selling vehicle in India in May 2023. The carmaker sold only 13,970 units of the Baleno in the same month last year, which gave the hatchback a year-over-year growth of 34.09 per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The&nbsp;Maruti Suzuki Swift&nbsp;with 17,346 units dispensed in May 2023, took second place on the list. On the other hand, the Wagon R grabbed third spot, with more than 16,258 units sold in the last month.&nbsp;The Wagon R hatchback year-over-year (YoY) sales decreased by 3% as compared to May of last year.</p>

<p>At the fifth position, the Hyundai Creta SUV imprinted its name the last month with 14,449 units sold. The Nexon, on the other hand, overtook its opponent, the Brezza, which was in sixth place with 13,398 sold units, to take the fifth spot with 14,423 units.</p>

<p>The Eeco, Dzire, and Punch, with 12,818 units, 11,315 units, and 11,124 units sold, respectively, took seventh, eighth, and ninth place.&nbsp;With sales of nearly 13,000 units in May 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco saw an increase in monthly and yearly sales figures. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire, on the other hand, had a boost in monthly sales with over 11,300 units sold, but a 2% drop in year-over-year sales.&nbsp;With sales of just over 11,000 units in May 2023, Tata Punch came in the ninth position and reported growth in terms of MoM and YoY basis.&nbsp;</p>

The Eeco now features&nbsp;a&nbsp;1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine with Dual Jet and Dual VVT technology,&nbsp;offered&nbsp;in both petrol and CNG variants.&nbsp;A new colour option, called Metallic Brisk Blue is also&nbsp;available for the Eeco from Maruti. Other options include Solid White, Pearl Midnight Black, Metallic Silky Silver, and Metallic Glistening Grey.</p>

<p>Coming to the powertrain, the updated engine of the Eeco&nbsp;now produces 80bhp and 104.4Nm when operating on <a href="https://www.autox.com/petrol-cars-in-india/">petrol </a>and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. On the other hand,&nbsp;the same motor generates 71bhp and 95Nm of maximum torque in the CNG version. For the petrol and <a href="https://www.autox.com/cng-cars-in-india/">CNG</a> models, the fuel economy is also said to have increased to 20.2km/l and 27.05km/kg, respectively.</p>

<p>It comes equipped with driver-focused controls, reclining front seats, cabin air filters (in AC models), and a dome lamp with a new battery-saving function, among other interior features. More than 11 safety features are incorporated&nbsp;in the Eeco, including an engine immobiliser, LED hazard switches, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, child locks for the sliding doors and windows, and reverse parking sensors. Moreover, a&nbsp;flat cargo floor adds 60 litres to the cargo capacity of the new Eeco Cargo petrol model.</p>

<p>The base model of the new Maruti Suzuki Eeco costs <span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt"><span style="background:white"><span arial="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#4d5156">₹</span></span></span></span></span>5.49 lakh, whereas&nbsp;the top-spec model has a price tag of&nbsp;<span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt"><span style="background:white"><span arial="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#4d5156">₹</span></span></span></span></span>8.13 lakh.</p>
