KTM is shaking things up for the 2025 season with a brand new rider line-up for their Red Bull KTM Tech3 team. Italian rider Enea Bastianini and Spanish rider Maverick Vinales will be taking seats in the second KTM team. Both riders will be on factory KTM bikes under a long-term contract. This adds to the existing team of Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta, creating a strong group of four riders under the Red Bull KTM banner. Bastianini has a history with KTM, starting on a KTM RC4 and even winning races in their Rookies Cup. He's had a successful career so far with Moto3 and Moto2 wins, including a Moto2 championship title in 2020. Since moving to MotoGP in 2021, he's continued to impress with several wins and podium finishes.

<h2>Maverick Vinales to KTM</h2>

After a three-year stint with Aprilia Racing that yielded one Grand Prix victory (Austin 2024) and seven podium finishes, Maverick Vinales will be departing the team at the end of the 2024 season. He will be joining Tech3 and KTM's parent company (Pierer Mobility Group) for the 2025 season. This team currently competes under the GasGas banner. Vinales' departure creates a significant rider vacancy for Aprilia, as Aleix Espargaro previously announced his retirement from MotoGP at season's end. There are rumours that Espargaro will transition to a test rider role with Honda in 2025.

Pedro Acosta's move to the main KTM team creates an opening on the other KTM squad for 2025, with Enea Bastianini likely replacing him.

Enea Bastianini of Ducati finished the second day of the MotoGP Sepang preseason test first, after a late comeback that allowed him to beat Jorge Martin on time sheet. Bastianini, who had a difficult and injury-plagued 2023 but still managed a commendable win at the Malaysian Grand Prix, seems to be more at one with the 2024-spec Ducati than with its predecessor. This became crystal clear when, in the last hour of the day's events, he rocketed to the top of the time charts. Notably, Bastianini was poised to break into the 1m56s region after two sectors but failed to do so in the final sector of his subsequent lap after recording a record-breaking 1m57.134s. Despite Wednesday's focus on aerodynamic improvements, Ducati kept showcasing the capabilities of their new 2024-spec Desmosedici. <h2>2024 MotoGP Sepang Test: Day Two Result</h2>

But in the last hour of racing, Bastianini stole the show with a lap of 1 minute and 57.134 seconds, beating Martin on the Pramac and almost missing out on a possible 1 minute and 56-second lap.

After finishing ahead of Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia and the current world champion Francesco Bagnaia, Binder took third place overall. In sixth place, Fabio Di Giannantonio showed great growth in his new position with the VR46 Ducati team, and Alex Marquez of Gresini came in seventh.

Pedro Acosta, a rookie sensation, maintained his spectacular debut in the premier class by finishing eighth, less than six-tenths of a second behind the leader. The 19-year-old continued racing without major incidents after a small crash at Turn 9 in the early practice.

Each of the top eleven riders—Marco Bezzecchi of VR46, <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/motogp-honda-signs-kalexs-co-founder-alex-baumgartel-as-hrc-technical-advisor-116067/">Joan Mir of Honda</a>, and Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha—completed laps in under one minute and fifty-seven seconds. Particularly noteworthy was Quartararo's top speed when equipped with the new M1 package. Johann Zarco of LCR Honda took 12th place, while Alex Rins of Yamaha was content with 13th. As he acclimatised to the Gresini Ducati, Marc Marquez had another quiet day, setting a fastest lap time of 1 minute and 58.118 seconds, nearly a full second slower than the leader. On the other hand, Marquez completed 72 laps on day two, which was the most laps of any rider.

Due to injury, Franco Morbidelli and Raul Fernandez were unable to participate in today's test session.

2024 MotoGP Sepang Test: Ducati’s Enea Bastianini Sets New Lap Record on Second Day

Bastianini shattered the timing screen with a 1m57.134s in the last hour of the day's track running, edging off Martin on the Pramac.

As Francesco Bagnaia is ready to contend for another MotoGP world championship, Ducati, the current champion, has unveiled its 2024 season livery, which features few changes. In 2023, Ducati won the constructors' title in MotoGP and set a new record for unmatched dominance with 17 of 20 Grand Prix victories. Bagnaia, who broke Ducati's 15-year title drought in 2022, won the riders' championship for the second year in a row after a thrilling season-ending showdown with Jorge Martin of Pramac.

During the winter reorganisation at Ducati, Paolo Ciabatti, who had previously served as sporting director, was promoted to head up the off-road programme for the Italian brand in 2024. After a stint in charge of marketing, communications, and racing for Ducati Corse in MotoGP, Mauro Grassilli has taken over as sporting director.

Ducati has made improvements to the bike in an effort to stay ahead of the competition, even though the team had an outstanding result last year. Francesco Bagnaia plans to win the championship for the third year in a row, while Enea Bastianini hopes to have a healthy season and have a significant effect on the competition.

<h2>MotoGP: 2024 Ducati Factory Riders</h2>

For the second year running, Enea Bastianini and Francesco Bagnaia will be the factory team's driving duo. Bagnaia won the championship last season after a tight fight with Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), while Bastianini managed to pull off a significant victory while dealing with injuries.

Injuries plagued Bastianini's first year with the Works Ducati squad, and his role was questioned as the season progressed. Despite all the obstacles, Bastianini managed to win a grand prix in 2023—the Malaysian GP—and add to Ducati's historic 17-win season total.

To help out struggling Japanese manufacturers, Ducati agreed on these concession constraints. With the new season upon us, the Italian brand is facing even more difficulties as a result of the concession requirements. There will be no wildcard entries for Ducati in 2024, and the Italian manufacturer can only use 170 test tyres for private races at three Grand Prix circuits. There is a cap of eight engines per rider and a halt to engine development. In addition, the Ducati is limited to a single aerodynamic fairing upgrade.

But he braked too late and ran wide, letting four riders—including title challenger Bagnaia—pass. Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo made a great start in sixth, followed by KTM's Jack Miller, VR46's Luca Marini in eighth, and KTM's Brad Binder. Aprilia's Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro were followed by Gresini's Fabio di Giannantonio and the rest of the Top 10. At the head of the pack, Bastianini kept Alex Marquez at bay by the narrowest of margins, while Martin passed Bezzecchi for fourth and began chasing Bagnaia for third.

<h2>MotoGP Malaysian GP: 2023 Sepang International Circuit Race Result</h2>

Over the course of two laps, the two leading MotoGP title candidates exchanged places several times. Despite Martin's formidable threat, Bagnaia was able to hold him off. Bezzecchi stayed in fifth place, Miller passed Quartararo, and di Giannantonio advanced to the top ten. Both Binder and Marini finished in the top ten, with Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli passing Vinales to take eleventh. Sadly, Espargaro, Joan Mir, Binder, and Nakagami suffered early retirements due to crashes, adding to the mounting list of departures, which previously included Oliveira and Fernandez.

In the meantime, a gap opened up between Martin and the rest of the pack, with Bastianini maintaining a comfortable lead. While Quartararo reclaimed sixth from Miller, Bezzecchi maintained fifth. Di Giannantonio stayed in eighth place, and Morbidelli and Marini were neck-and-neck for ninth. The Yamaha riders kept making gains, with Quartararo moving up to fourth after passing Bezzecchi and Morbidelli moving by Miller, who had previously passed di Giannantonio to move into eighth. Bastianini led from the front and maintained his composure to win the 2023 MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix.

Marquez earned second place, followed by Bagnaia in third, with Martin in fourth and Quartararo in fifth. Tenth place went to Marini, followed by Bezzecchi, Morbidelli, Miller and di Giannantonio. MotoGP Malaysian GP: Bastianini Wins Sepang Race as Bagnaia Extends Title Lead

Enea Bastianini triumphed at the Malaysian Grand Prix, securing his first MotoGP win since September at Aragon last year. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia further solidified his championship lead, marking a pivotal moment in the title race on Sunday.

Ducati’s Enea Bastianini suffered injuries in a five-bike pile-up at the start of the Catalunya MotoGP, preventing him from competing in upcoming races in Italy, India and Japan. When the Italian miscalculated his braking while attempting a tight inside line into Turn 1 for the first time, he collided with Johann Zarco and then wiped off Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, and Fabio di Giannantonio, all of whom were riding Ducati bikes. Pecco Bagnaia, who suffered injuries in a separate accident further around the turn, was also taken to a hospital together with Bastianini for evaluation. Bastianini had surgery to fix a fractured malleolus (an ankle bone) and a complicated fracture of the second metacarpal (a bone in the hand). Ducati Corse said Bastianini's operation went well, but the Italian rider won't be able to compete in the next races on September 10 (Misano World Circuit - San Marino), September 24 (India), and October 1 (Japan).

<h2>MotoGP: Michele Pirro to Replace Enea Bastianini</h2>

The racing weekend of the Catalan Grand Prix did not go according to Ducati rider Enea Bastianini's initial expectations. While slowing down for turn one on the first lap, the Italian rider crashed. Unfortunately, his first lap mishap forced him to leave the Grand Prix right away. The accident initiated by Bastianini resulted in a subsequent collision involving a total of five riders.&nbsp;

The accident between Enea Bastianini and Pramac rider Johann Zarco was a result of the actions taken by Bastianini on turn one of the Grand Prix. Consequently, a further collision occurred involving Fabio Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, and Marco Bezzecchi. After initial examinations at the clinic, Enea was moved to a hospital for further examination. It was thought that there were fractures, and sadly, that assumption was correct.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Michele Pirro, a test rider for Ducati, has said that he would take over for the number 23. He will compete in a wild card event with the Aruba squad at Misano but will represent the official squad in India and Japan.

Bastianini had already missed the first five races of the season due to a fractured shoulder sustained in a crash with Luca Marini during the sprint race at the Portuguese GP, so this will be his second extended absence of the year. After Bastianini's two podiums on the underdog Avintia Ducati in 2021 and his nail-biting battle with Bagnaia last season, his absence at Misano will be a tough pill to take.

At the end of March, during the Sprint race in Portimao, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider hurt his right shoulder. He had planned to compete in the French Grand Prix in Le Mans, but he withdrew due to soreness and fatigue while riding his Desmosedici GP. He spoke with medical professionals and his team and ultimately opted to rest until the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello at the beginning of June.&nbsp;
