The open-top variant of the Ferrari 296 GTB has been rolled out in the Indian market by the Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer today. This mid-engined convertible supercar, known as the 296 GTS, had its global premiere in April last year and has finally arrived on our shores. The new Ferrari 296 GTS has been launched in the country, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 6.24 crore.&nbsp;The GTS (Gran Turismo Spider) abbreviation, as per Ferrari,&nbsp;combines the car's overall displacement (2.992 litres) with the number of cylinders.&nbsp;The new 296 GTS is also the first six-cylinder-powered Ferrari model on the market.&nbsp;The Prancing Horse produced V6s for the Dino 156, but it never actually had a road vehicle of its own.&nbsp;This is Ferrari's fourth plug-in hybrid vehicle, and it has four driving modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify. The base price of the 296 GTS, which is Rs 6.24 crore, is significantly more than the 296 GTB's starting price of Rs 5.40 crore. <h2>Ferrari 296 GTS: Engine,&nbsp;Gearbox, Range, and More Details</h2>

With the introduction of the Ferrari 296 GTS, a new engine type joins the brand's multi-award-winning 8-cylinder and 12-cylinder&nbsp;powertrains. An electric motor and a 3.0-litre dual turbocharged V6 petrol engine power the Ferrari 296 GTS.&nbsp;This is the first time a 6-cylinder engine has been placed on a Prancing Horse road vehicle. The hybrid powertrain's total output is 830bhp, and its maximum torque output is 740Nm. It is linked to an automated gearbox with eight speeds. The 296 GTS is touted as having a peak speed of over 330km/h and a sprint time from 0 to 100km/h of 2.9 seconds. It takes about 7.6 seconds to reach 200km/h.

The Ferrari 296 GTS's all-electric eDrive mode has a 25-kilometre range with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. According to the automaker, the car's compact dimensions, unique dynamic control systems, and carefully perfected aero ensure that the driver will experience its amazing agility and response to commands right away.

Except for minor changes to enable the convertible roof, the new Ferrari 296 GTS shares a lot of its design cues with the 296 GTB. The retractable roof on the Ferrari 296 GTS may be opened or closed in 14 seconds at up to 45km/h and is stowed inside the engine compartment. The starting price for the brand-new Ferrari 296 GTS Convertible in India is Rs 6.24 crore (ex-showroom). The 296 GTB, on the other hand, retails for Rs 5.40 crore (ex-showroom). The 296 GTS from the Italian supercar company competes with vehicles like the McLaren 720S Spider. &nbsp;

The new Ferrari 296 GTS has been launched in India, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 6.24 crore. The peak speed of this mid-engined convertible supercar is over 330km/h. The model had its global premiere in April last year and has finally arrived on Indian soil.

The 296 GTS gets all the performance of the coupe, plus infinite headroom.

Ferrari. A household name&nbsp;synonymous with beautiful, fast cars. And the latest in this line of beautiful, fast cars is the 296 GTS. The 296 GTS is of course the open-top version of the 296 GTB, with a retractable hard top.

In terms of styling, the 296 GTS stays largely similar to the GTB with two haunches behind the seats which also integrate the roll hoop. The hard-top can retract or raise back into place in 14 seconds at speeds of upto 45kmph.

Powering the 296 GTS is the same 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 and e-motor combination as the GTB. The outputs are 818bhp and 740Nm, enabling a 0 to 100kmph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of over 330kmph – figures that are identical to the GTB, despite the extra 70kg it is lugging thanks to the roof mechanism.

The 296 GTS can also run on pure electricity for 25km and at speeds up to 135kmph, thanks to a 7.4kWh battery pack nestled inside. The 296 GTS, like the GTB, remains rear-wheel-drive though and power is sent to the back via an 8-speed DCT.

Expect the 296 GTS to come to India in the next few months, though currently&nbsp;we are&nbsp;waiting on the official launch of the standard 296 GTB in the country. <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/ferrari/" target="_blank">Ferrari</a> will also unveil its Purosangue <a href="https://www.autox.com/suv-cars-in-india/" target="_blank">SUV</a> this year, which should be an important product for Ferrari in India, going by the popularity of the Lamborghini Urus.

Ferrari 296 GTS unveiled

Ferrari's 296 GTS adds a retractable hard-top to the 296 GTB's potent mix of a twin-turbo V6 and electric power. More of a targa top than a full convertible, the 296 GTS also matches the performance of the coupe.

Ferrari hasn’t revealed too much, but we’ve got a pretty good guess.

Ferrari is usually very tight-lipped about its upcoming models. We saw Purosangue test mules for years before getting an official confirmation on Ferrari’s first <a href="https://www.autox.com/suv-cars-in-india/" target="_blank">SUV</a> very recently. Now, the company has teased a new supercar that is set to be unveiled today and we're all left guessing!

The teaser seen on <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/ferrari/" target="_blank">Ferrari’s</a> social media handles is rather cryptic. There’s not much you can make out from the fast cuts of the video, just the blue paintwork of the car and the yellow wheel centres with the prancing horse. The rest is a mystery. However, the caption reads ‘Are you ready to meet our newest mid-rear-engined berlinetta?’

This confirms the engine layout and also pretty much confirms this to be the drop-top version of the 296 GTB, set to be named the 296 GTS. Why do we think so? Well, it’s too early in the F8 Tributo’s life cycle for us to see a hardcore Pista-esque variant and we already have the F8 Spider.

On top of that, we’ve not heard any rumours of an all-new mid-rear-engined model, or seen any suspicious test mules which only leaves the possibility of the 296 GTS. Expect it to have the same 819bhp and 740Nm twin-turbo V6 and e-motor setup as the standard 296 GTB.

In terms of styling, expect the 296 GTS to be rather similar from the front with a revised rear-end to accommodate a folding hard-top.

We won’t have to wait too long for an official unveil though, stay tuned!

The Ferrari 296 GTS will be the drop-top alternative to the new 296 GTB. It will carry the same powertrain setup, with possible tweaks to the styling and aerodynamic package to accommodate the folding hard-top.
