Formula E Hyderabad e-Prix: India is all set to host its first-ever Formula E race. The Round 4 of Season 9 will take place on a racetrack in Hyderabad, Telangana, near Hussain Sagar. The state government anticipates over 20,000 fans from all over the world attending the event on February 11. A total of 11 teams and 22 drivers will compete in the event. These include Avalanche Andretti Formula E, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, Envision Racing, Jaguar TCS Racing, Mahindra Racing, DS Penske, Nissan Formula E Team, Maserati MSG Racing, NIO 333 Racing, and ABT CUPRA Formula E Team. Avalance Andretti Formula E team

Avalance Andretti confirmed last year that its full Formula E line-up for the 2023 season will include Jake Dennis and Andre Lotterer. It was announced that Lotterer, an eight-time Formula E podium finisher, would not race for Porsche in 2023. Along with his Porsche World Endurance Championship commitments, he joined Dennis in the Andretti team. Commenting on the development, Lotterer said, ‘I’m excited to join Avalanche Andretti FE for Season 9 and the start of the Gen3 era. Working together with Jake will be a great combination to continue to push the team to the front of the field in Formula E.’

NEOM McLaren Formula E Team

Rene Rast, the triple DTM and Porsche Supercup champion, is McLaren's first Formula E racing driver. Rast combined that contract with a season racing for McLaren in <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/formula-e-hyderabad-e-prix-how-to-book-tickets-112408/">Formula E</a>, becoming the British team's first driver following its takeover of the reigning champion Mercedes outfit.

Rast has competed in three different Formula E seasons. First, for Team Aguri, he made a one-time appearance in 2015-16. In the six races in Berlin that concluded the 2019–20 season, he competed when Audi dismissed Daniel Abt. In 2020–21, for Audi's final season in the championship, he was signed as a full-season driver.

Jake Hughes is competing in Formula E alongside Rene Rast for McLaren. The 28-year-old has already competed in the series for Venturi and served as a test driver for the now-McLaren-owned Mercedes team, which won the championship.

Maserati MSG Racing&nbsp;Formula E Team

The newest Formula E team has announced Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Guenther as their drivers for season nine. Until the end of the 2021-22 season, Mortara continued to compete for the Venturi team, where he was a contender for the drivers' championship at the season-ending race for the last two years.

In response to the news, Mortara commented, ‘Since I joined the team in Season 4, it has become home for me, and I’m really happy to continue my journey with such a collection of hard-working and talented individuals into Season 9 and beyond.’

ABT CUPRA Formula E Team

This year, Cupra joined the Formula E grid in collaboration with Abt. The German team had participated in the championship from the start, first operating Audi's factory effort and later working in partnership with the automaker but was compelled to forgo the 2022 campaign after Audi decided to leave. The Spanish company Cupra, which was created from Seat, has been participating in Extreme E and the Pure ETCR championship over the past few years.

The brand's focus on an all-electric future complements its move to compete in Formula E because both are still niche categories. The collaboration will result in Robin Frijns and Nico Müller, who were named as Formula E Abt drivers, competing for Cupra in the ongoing event.

DS PENSKE Formula E Team

In addition to joining forces with Penske Autosport to form the DS Penske Formula E Team, DS officially announced that Jean-Eric Vergne, a two-time champion, and Stoffel Vandoorne, the current champion, will compete for the team in 2023. Penske is the third team that DS collaborated with; the other two were Virgin and Techeetah when DS first entered Formula E. During the partnership, the French manufacturer would take home two Formula E Drivers' Championships and two Constructors' Championships, but a split between the two was announced last year.

NIO 333 Racing Formula E Team

By extending his contract with the Nio 333 Formula E team, Dan Ticktum continues to compete for the Chinese team in the 2022-23 season alongside Sergio Sette Camara. Following his switch from Formula 2 to <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/formula-e-hyderabad-e-prix-jaguar-tcs-racing-to-debut-i-type-6-in-india-112389/">Formula E</a>, the British driver had a promising first season with the team, earning a point at the Rome e-Prix and performing well against his more seasoned teammate Oliver Turvey.

Sergio Sette Camara, a Brazilian racer, is also competing for Nio 333 this season. In the middle of 2020, Sette Camara, a driver for Dragon Racing, entered the series. He took Brendon Hartley's place for the final six races in Berlin. He was kept on at the now-named Dragon/Penske Autosport for the next two seasons, who were impressed by his ability to salvage point-scoring finishes from a subpar package and outperform his teammates significantly.

Nissan Formula E Team

The driving team for Nissan's Formula E team underwent a complete makeover. Maximilian Gunther followed Sebastien Buemi out the Nissan eDams door since it was already made known that the Swiss racer was leaving the team. Instead, the all-French pairing of Sacha Fenestraz and Norman Nato is driving for Nissan in the 2023 Formula E season. Nato is back full-time. He did race in the 2021-22 season, filling in for the injured Sam Bird at Jaguar in Seoul for the final two races of the season.

Fenestraz, who currently leads the Super GT championship, made his Formula E debut in the season finale of 2022, replacing Antonio Giovinazzi at Dragon. His move to Nissan marked his first full Formula E season.

Envision Racing Formula E Team

Last year, Former Formula E champion Sébastien Buemi signed a two-year contract with Envision Racing beginning in 2023. Buemi announced his departure from the struggling e.dams team at the Seoul e-Prix in August 2022, which he has competed for since the first Formula E season in 2014 in both Renault and Nissan guises. He won three consecutive championships in addition to the drivers' championship in the 2015-16 season.

TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team

At the brand-new track in the Telangana state capital, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will race two Porsche 99X Electric race cars, which were developed by Weissach. As the driver's champion in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Pascal Wehrlein is headed to Hyderabad. Mahindra Racing&nbsp;Formula E Team

<a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/mahindra-racing-reveals-m9electro-formula-e-car-with-new-livery-at-valencia-pre-season-testing-111985/">Mahindra Racing</a>&nbsp;participated in the Championship as one of the original ten teams in the 2014-15 season.&nbsp;The team designed its own electric drivetrain, the M2Electro, to power their quartet of electric racing cars beginning with the second season of Formula E (2015–2016). Nick Heidfeld secured the team's first podium for the M2Electro right out of the gate in the opening round of Beijing.&nbsp;Mahindra revealed the new M7Electro car on October 29, 2020, and Alexander Sims and Alex Lynn were confirmed as the drivers for the 2020-21 Formula E season.

For the 2021-22 Formula E season, Lynn was replaced by Oliver Rowland. Sims announced that he would not be returning to the team for the 2022-23 season and <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/mahindra-racings-lucas-di-grassi-new-home-for-2023-112218/">was replaced by Lucas di Grassi</a>. Dilbagh Gill, the team's principal, left in September 2022, allowing Frédéric Bertrand to take his place.

Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E Team

As a result of its partnership with Tata Consultancy Services, the team&nbsp;now competes in Formula E under the name Jaguar TCS Racing. The team announced their latest rebranding to <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/jaguar-unveils-the-new-gen3-formula-e-racer-111914/">Jaguar TCS Racing</a> on November 2, 2021, along with confirming the same driver line-up of Bird and Evans. Thierry Bolloré was&nbsp;named the team's new chairman.&nbsp;&nbsp;Norman Nato was announced as Jaguar's new reserve and simulator driver on January 17, 2022, replacing Sacha Fenestraz.&nbsp;

On February 8, 2022, it was announced that Jaguar would become Envision Racing's powertrain supplier for the duration of the Gen3 era of Formula E, which began with the 2022-23 season. After a shaky start to the season, Jaguar bounced back at the Rome ePrix, where Evans won both races. Bird was aiming for a double-point finish, but he was forced to withdraw from the second race. Formula E Hyderabad e-Prix: The inaugural Formula E race in India is about to take place in a couple of days. The racetrack, which will host Round 4 of Season 9, is situated in Hyderabad, Telangana. Here's a look at each of the competing teams, their drivers, and the most recent team developments.

Formula E Cars Explained: The government of Telangana, in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), will host the fourth race of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on February 11. With Indian car brands making a push for green mobility, the time is opportune for Formula E to come to India. The event will feature a total of 11 teams, with 22 electric race cars competing on a 2.8-km-long street circuit in Hyderabad. The concept of the single-seat Formula E was born out of a casual conversation between FIA President, Jean Todt, and the founder of Formula E, Alejandro Agag, in 2011. The idea was also to support the transition from internal combustion engines to electric propulsion, and thus the ABB FIA <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/formula-e-hyderabad-e-prix-how-to-book-tickets-112408/">Formula E</a> Championship began in 2014.

In Round 4 of the 2023 edition of the championship, Mahindra Racing, Jaguar TCS Racing, Avalanche Andretti Formula E, TAG Heuer Porche Formula E Team, Maserati MSG Racing, DS PENSKE, NEOM McLaren, and others will be up against each other.

The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 will mark its debut in Round 4 of Formula E. The race car comes with both front and rear powertrains. Equipped with regenerative braking technology, it will have no need for traditional rear brakes. It’s 74kgs lighter than I-TYPE 5. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 321km/h. It comes with Carbon Black, Satin White, and Gold accents.

The Jaguar I-TYPE 1 and the I-TYPE 2 Gen1 race cars were used in Seasons 3 and 4 of Formula E, respectively. With a claimed top speed of 225km/h, they could accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds and deliver 268bhp of maximum power. Gen2 cars were introduced in 2018 – the I-TYPE 3 and the I-TYPE 4 had a top speed of up to 280km/h and produced 335bhp of maximum power.

During the seventh season of the series, the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 was unleashed on the circuit. It was equipped with a state-of-the-art in-house powertrain.

All set to make its debut with the <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/formula-e-hyderabad-e-prix-jaguar-tcs-racing-to-debut-i-type-6-in-india-112389/">I-TYPE 6</a> in Season 9 Formula E, the Mahindra M9Electro was unveiled by Mahindra Racing at the Valencia pre-season test in December last year. For the upcoming season, the M9Electro appears to have a new red and copper livery, inspired by Mahindra's Born Electric platform design language. Mahindra claims that it’s the most powerful electric race car ever built – 60kgs lighter than its predecessor, the Gen3 electric car is 134bhp more powerful, at 469bhp, and has a top speed of 322km/h.

At the inaugural race of Formula E in 2014, Mahindra Racing Team raced the Spark-Renault SRT 01E on the circuit. Then came the M2Electro and the M3Electro. All three Gen1 race cars could produce 270bhp of power. The M5Electro, M6Electro, M7Electro Gen2 cars had a battery that could store 52kWh of power, which gave the cars more power and speed. The Attack Mode, an addition in Gen2 cars, increased the power by 40bhp, which was sufficient to overtake cars and make quick passes.

Avalanche Andretti Formula E Team and TAG Heuer Porche Formula E Team are Porsche-powered teams, which are to push for the Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 car. Both teams will run the Weissach-developed Porsche 99X Electric cars at the street circuit of 2023 Formula E.

Following Porsche's tradition, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/porsche-99x-electric-formula-e-racer-unveiled-106508/">Porsche 99X Electric car</a> gets the traditional Porsche Motorsport colours. The Porsche 99X Gen3 uses the 800V technology, which can also be found in Porsche's Taycan electric car. The 99X Electric, according to the manufacturer, will serve as a platform in the future to develop other electric models.

The first Porsche fully-electric race car made its debut in the 2019-20 Formula E championship. The Porsche 99X Electric Gen 2 used a standard battery that could store 52kWh of power and produced 335bhp of maximum power. The Gen2 also had the same 800V powertrain technology as the 99X Electric Gen3.

Nissan e-4ORCE, in its new Cherry Blossom livery, is also preparing for the Formula E World Championship. It is a new single-seat concept car with Nissan's new e-4ORCE all-wheel drive (AWD) technology. It comes with a twin-motor setup (65kWh, 90kWh, and 90kWh). According to Nissan Motor, the race car is based on the Nissan Ariya, its first all-electric crossover SUV. The entry-level AWD model (65kWh) offers a driving range of up to 340 kilometres.

As for the Nissan Formula E Team, it joined the all-electric racing championship in 2018-19. While the standardised chassis and battery pack were used, the Nissan LEAF Gen2 entered Formula E with its in-house powertrain, including motor, battery, inverter, gearbox, and more. In season 7, Nissan announced its commitment to the Gen3 era.&nbsp;

And then there is the French luxury carmaker's DS E-TENSE FE23. In black and gold livery, the E-TENSE Gen3 car comes with a new front drivetrain, increasing the regeneration capacity to a total of 600kWh. Weighing 840kgs, it is said to generate 469bhp of maximum power output. The race car has been developed by DS Performance, the racing division of DS Automobiles. DS PENSKE Team will race the E-TENSE Gen3 at the marquee event.

Looking back, DS Automobiles entered Formula E in 2015 with its E-TENSE Gen1 car, with 268bhp of power. The end of 2018 marked the beginning of E-TENSE Gen2 cars, equipped with a 54kWh battery and capable of producing 335bhp of maximum power. Aside from a revised chassis and a new aerodynamic package, the cars were equipped with new tyres, a new battery, and 'halo' cockpit head protection.

We will have also the Maserati Tipo Folgore and the NIO 333 ER9 race cars at the upcoming Formula E.

In comparison to Gen1 and Gen2 race cars, the Gen3 race cars are well-known for their top speed of 321km/h. They are lighter and more powerful than the previous generation of electric single-seaters. Equipped with the four-wheel-drive system, they get an additional front powertrain without hydraulic rear brakes. They are capable of delivering a power output of up to 469bhp.

Formula E Hyderabad e-Prix: The new all-electric Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 racer is going to make its debut in Round 4 of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, scheduled to be held on February 11 in Hyderabad. Unveiled by Jaguar TCS Racing in December last year, the new Formula E race car will compete at the first-ever 2023 Greenko Hyderabad e-Prix. Hyderabad has been selected as one of the four brand-new race locations for Season 9 of 2023 Formula E. The event will take place at a 2.83km long street circuit by the heart-shaped Hussain Sagar Lake. The all-electric World Championship will include 32 laps of the street circuit. Moreover, 2023 will also mark the racing debut of the Gen3 car, the world's first net zero race car.

Formula E will have a total of 11 teams. Of these, 10 teams will have two race cars, with one driver each. Jaguar TCS's Mitch Evans and Sam Bird have stood at fifth in the teams' standings after positive performances at the Diriyah double-header Formula E in January 2023. In round 3 of the World Championship, Mitch and Sam lined up seventh and fourth on the grid respectively.

During season 8 of the Championship in 2022, Mitch secured second place in the drivers' standings, while Sam finished thirteenth overall. Jaguar TCS Racing finished fourth in the teams' standings with a score of 231 points, seven podiums, four wins, one pole position, and one fastest lap.

Jaguar TCS Racing is the first luxury manufacturer that joins the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship street racing series. The official manufacturer team is said to design its own powertrain, including the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Given that the brand is planning to make a transition to an all-electric luxury brand in 2025, the debut of the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 at Formula E will be a significant step in that direction.

The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 is the first race car that comes with both front and rear powertrains, with a 335bhp regen motor at the front and a 469bhp regen motor at the rear, thereby eliminating the need for traditional rear brakes. The Cars

The cars are what distinguish Formula E from other Motorsport tournaments. Gen1 and Gen2 cars were used for racing in the past, but technological advancements have made Gen3 cars possible. In comparison to Gen1 and Gen2 cars, the new sustainable vehicles are smaller, shorter, and narrower in size. The Gen1 cars could accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds and produce 201bhp of maximum power.

During the fifth season, 2018-2019, Gen2 cars were introduced, equipped with 250kW batteries and with a top speed of 280km/h. These cars could accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds. 

Performance-wise, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/formula-e-unveils-new-gen3-electric-racecar-110962/">new Gen3 race cars</a> represent a significant improvement. These fast cars, which have a top speed of 322km/h will astound the world when they make their way to the upcoming racing event. Since almost 40 per cent of the energy used by the car during a race is produced by a regenerative braking system, the Gen3 cars are also the most efficient formula cars. Powered by 350kWh batteries, these cars make much less noise than gasoline-powered vehicles.

The car's tyres, which provide adequate traction and stability in all weather conditions, are made of natural and environmentally-friendly materials, like recycled fibres and natural rubber. To ensure maximum sustainability, the car tyres are recycled after the race is over. The body and batteries of the cars are both made of natural materials, and all of these materials can be recycled to some extent.

The Track

Deciding the Champion

Based on the points that each driver scores in each round throughout the season, the overall champion is declared. According to the standard FIA scoring system, points are awarded to the top 10 finishers in each round. The driver in position 10 receives one point, while the race winner gets 25 points. Other finishers receive the following points: 2nd – 18pts, 3rd – 15pts, 4th – 12pts, 5th – 10pts, 6th – 8pts, 7th – 6pts, 8th – 4pts, 9th – 2pts, 10th – 1pt.
