<p>The current two-time MotoGP world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, has officially extended his partnership with Ducati by signing a new two-year contract that keeps him committed until the end of 2026. Bagnaia joined the Ducati team after his first MotoGP race in 2019 with Pramac Racing. In 2021, he was promoted to the factory squad.</p>

<p>The 2021 season was an amazing year for Bagnaia. He stopped Ducati's 15-year championship drought and then won a second title the next year by beating Ducati rival Jorge Martin in the season finale at Valencia. While it took a little longer than expected to announce the contract extension, General Manager Gigi Dall'Igna's projections came true on Monday afternoon, just in time for the 2024 season to start this weekend in Qatar.</p>

<p>This announcement makes it official that the 27-year-old double MotoGP winner will stay with Ducati for the foreseeable future. He will be a part of the company's structure until the end of the 2026 season.</p>

<p>Francesco Bagnaia said: "I am so happy to continue racing with the team of my dreams! Wearing these colours is an honour for me. It's fantastic and a source of pride. Together, we have written an important page of motorcycling history: Pecco was the first Italian rider to win a World Title in MotoGP with an Italian bike, our Desmosedici GP. Together, we brought back a Riders' World Title that had been missing for 15 years, and we did it again last year. He is a two-time World Champion and has proven on more than one occasion that he truly deserves the number 1 on the fairing of his bike. In addition to these results, Bagnaia continues to demonstrate that he is in perfect harmony with his bike and team. For all these reasons, it was natural for us to want to continue with him. Therefore, we look forward to this new chapter together, confident that we can achieve other important results."</p>

<h2>MotoGP: Bagnaia and Ducati</h2>

<p>Francesco Bagnaia, who is originally from Turin but now calls Pesaro home, joined Ducati in 2019 through Pramac Racing. He joined Jack Miller on the factory Ducati squad in 2021. Starting the season on a positive note, Bagnaia beat out teammate Miller and factory Yamaha riders Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales to take pole position in Losail. His first MotoGP win came in Aragon, where he had a thrilling battle with Marc Marquez; the following week, he won again in Misano.</p>

<p>The Italian rider had a rough start to the 2022 season due to an accident at the Sachsenring that put him 91 points behind the leader in the championship. Nevertheless, Bagnaia defied all odds and won his maiden premier class championship in Valencia thanks to an incredible comeback in the second half of the season. In 2023, Bagnaia was challenged for the coveted number-one position and became the first rider since Mick Doohan to <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/motogp-pecco-bagnaia-wins-2023-world-championship-at-valencia-gp-115360/">defend the Rider Championship</a>. He joins the ranks of MotoGP greats Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez as the only riders to win successive championships with this feat.</p>

<p>For the second year running, Enea Bastianini and Francesco Bagnaia will be the factory team's driving duo. <p>To help out struggling Japanese manufacturers, Ducati agreed on these concession constraints. With the new season upon us, the Italian brand is facing even more difficulties as a result of the concession requirements. There will be no wildcard entries for Ducati in 2024, and the Italian manufacturer can only use 170 test tyres for private races at three Grand Prix circuits. Bagnaia, on his Ducati, was in the lead of the race, unaware of Martin's mishap. After Martin's Ducati-Pramac collided with Marc Marquez's Honda, both riders went tumbling. Martin went away raising his hands in frustration while Marquez, a six-time champion, limped out in his final race for Honda.</p>

<p>Bagnaia, who had the advantage of starting from pole when Maverick Vinales was penalised before the race, made a brilliant start and led the way into the first turn. But his rival for the championship, Martin, also got off to a strong start and was in second place after turn two having moved up from sixth. On lap 3, Martin was getting ready to make a move, but he was caught in the slipstream of the series leader and went wide. Martin made a mistake and fell to eighth, but he quickly recovered and passed Vinales to move up to sixth. Unfortunately, Martin's championship dreams were immediately crushed when he crashed just two corners later, hitting the rear of Marc Marquez's bike. Marquez was thrown from his Repsol Honda and with Martin out of the race, Bagnaia's lead was given up to the two factory KTM riders, with Brad Binder taking the lead.</p>

<p>Binder's luck changed for the worst on lap 14 when he ran off the track at turn 10 and lost five spots. Miller was about to secure KTM's first victory in a difficult year until he made a crucial mistake that caused a crash at turn 11.</p>

<p>Bagnaia regained the lead after this mistake, but Zarco has been persistent in his pursuit of a second victory this season. The fastest rider, Di Giannantonio, quickly passed Binder and then closed the gap on the front-runners. Di Giannantonio passed Zarco for second place and then set his sights on Bagnaia for the possible victory on the final lap.</p>

<p>In the meantime, a gap opened up between Martin and the rest of the pack, with Bastianini maintaining a comfortable lead. While Quartararo reclaimed sixth from Miller, Bezzecchi maintained fifth. Di Giannantonio stayed in eighth place, and Morbidelli and Marini were neck-and-neck for ninth. The Yamaha riders kept making gains, with Quartararo moving up to fourth after passing Bezzecchi and Morbidelli moving by Miller, who had previously passed di Giannantonio to move into eighth. Bastianini led from the front and maintained his composure to win the 2023 MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix.</p>

MotoGP Malaysian GP: Bastianini Wins Sepang Race as Bagnaia Extends Title Lead

Enea Bastianini triumphed at the Malaysian Grand Prix, securing his first MotoGP win since September at Aragon last year. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia further solidified his championship lead, marking a pivotal moment in the title race on Sunday.

<p>Jorge Martin easily won the Indian MotoGP sprint, but a surprising comeback from Marco Bezzecchi made the first-ever MotoGP Bharat GP sprint race even more interesting. Marco Bezzecchi's race took a dramatic turn after he got off to a bad start from the pole position and teammate Luca Marini crashed with the back of his Ducati. Pol Espargaro and Stefan Brald had an accident further back when they clashed with each other. After a perfect start, Jorge Martin, a two-time race winner at Misano, was in the lead. After a great Indian MotoGP weekend, Joan Mir dropped to fifth after making a mistake on lap three, as Martin extended his lead over Bagnaia. Mir, who was eighth at the time, crashed in lap 4's turn 3. On lap six, Johann Zarco dropped to sixth after an additional crash. Bezzecchi, however, had regained a point position after stealing one from Raul Fernandez. The Italian was still the fastest rider on the course, setting fast lap times.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Bharat GP: Indian GP Sprint Result</h2>

<p>Bezzecchi passed Vinales for seventh on the next lap and then closed the gap to Jack Miller for sixth a lap later. Aleix Espargaro's gruelling sprint finished in the gravel, outside the points, as he crashed on the penultimate corner of the Buddh International Circuit. With a daring late-braking move into turn four, Bezzecchi overtook Fabio Quartararo for fifth position, completing an incredible recovery.</p>

<p>Due to the previous rain, the afternoon's plans were altered, and a 'wet' practice was added right before the Sprint. Although the track was nearly dry by the end of the 15-minute session and improved further before the Sprint start, riders nonetheless voiced worries about wet spots in areas with important run-off and parts of the starting grid.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Bharat GP: Indian GP Sprint Race Crash Result</h2>

<p>Alex Marquez's qualifying crash left the field with only 21 riders, and after a few more brief delays to let the track dry, Martin took the lead out of Turn 1 from his second-place starting position. The pole-sitter was hit from behind by Marini, who was desperately trying to slow down his VR46 Ducati. While Marini was out of action, Bezzecchi finally rejoined the track.</p>

<p>Following in the footsteps of the Italian, Stefan Bradl made the same mistake, rear-ending both Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaro, leaving only the rookie to continue the race on two wheels. &nbsp;After Mir's solo crash in the middle stages, Johann Zarco of Martin's squad went down, and then Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia crashed out of the points. All the riders used medium-hard front slicks and soft-hard rear slicks for the first-ever MotoGP Bharat GP sprint race.</p>


MotoGP Bharat GP: Jorge Martin Wins First Ever Indian GP Sprint; Bagnaia, Marquez Complete Podium

The 2023 MotoGP Bharat GP Sprint event at the Buddh International Circuit was postponed due to bad weather, but Jorge Martin still managed to win. Bagnaia was also consistently second for all 11 laps, with Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda rounding off the top three.

<p>In his home race, Aleix Espargaro put his previous struggles in Barcelona behind him to win and lead a historic Aprilia 1-2 finish. From the start of the Catalunya Grand Prix, Maverick Vinales was in the lead. However, he was constantly followed by his teammate. To claim victory, Espargaro executed a masterclass in tyre management, waiting until the final three laps to pass Vinales for the lead. On the opening lap of the grand prix, Bagnaia, who was in the lead, was horribly injured when he was thrown from his Ducati exiting Turn 2. KTM's Brad Binder had no choice but to run over the world championship leader's leg. Bagnaia's teammate Enea Bastianini sparked an accident at Turn 1 involving multiple riders seconds earlier, including Pramac's Johann Zarco, Gresini's Alex Marquez, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Marco Bezzecchi. The race was stopped and Bagnaia was taken to a hospital in Barcelona for further evaluation as a precautionary measure. Factory Ducati riders including Bastianini were unable to compete.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Spanish GP: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Race Result</h2>

<p>Moments before Bagnaia's crash, five other Ducati riders were involved in a pile-up similar to last year's crash at the same corner, which was sparked by Takaaki Nakagami and included Bagnaia and the currently injured Alex Rins. This time, it was Bagnaia's teammate Enea Bastianini who caused the accident by smashing into Johann Zarco from the inside at high speed. The impact sent the two Gresini Ducatis of Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, as well as the VR46 Ducati of Marco Bezzecchi, tumbling to the ground.</p>

<p>Miller, a KTM rider, got off to a strong start and was running sixth, but he had to give way to Marquez and Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha to salvage a respectable result after a disappointing weekend for the M1 bikes and the Japanese team as a whole in MotoGP. Honda's top rider, Marc Marquez, finished 13th, one spot behind Bezzecchi.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Spanish GP: Francesco Bagnaia Horrific Carsh at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya</h2>

<p>Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning <a href="https://www.autox.com/moto-gp/">MotoGP</a> champion, was involved in a terrifying crash at the start of Sunday's Catalan Grand Prix. The Italian rider lost control of his Ducati and went down, only to have another rider run over his lower leg. Following his victory over Fabio Quartararo for the 2022 MotoGP championship, the Italian 26-year-old has been defending his title.</p>

<p>Bagnaia's Ducati bike skidded out of control as the field sped into the first corner of the lap, sending him tumbling into the path of oncoming Brad Binder, who was unable to avoid Pecco and ran over his lower leg. Bagnaia, an Italian rider, was thankfully conscious after his horrific crash, but the rider was clearly in pain as he waited for help.&nbsp;</p>

<p>MotoGP officials have since reported that the 26-year-old's condition has not changed, but further information is still needed. Bagnaia had a large lead in the standings going into the Grand Prix of Catalonia. With an incredible five victories and two P2 finishes so far this season, the Italian had a 66-point lead over his closest championship rival, Jorge Martin.</p>


MotoGP Spanish GP: Aleix Espargaro Leads Aprilia's First Ever 1-2 as Bagnaia Carshes Out at Catalunya GP

Two big crashes on the first lap, including one involving championship leader Pecco Bagnaia, overshadowed Aleix Espargaro's victory in the Catalan Grand Prix, where Aprilia finished 1-2. Bagnaia led from the pole, but he high-sided off his Ducati out of Turn 2, landing in the centre of the circuit.

<p>Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo won the Sprint Race and the Main Race in the Austrian Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, at the Red Bull Ring. As he prepares to defend his world championship title in the 2023 season, he has increased his advantage at the top of the rankings. Brad Binder of KTM finished in second place. Bagnaia, who had just established his sixth pole position of the year with a time of 1:28.539 in the morning qualifying session, received an excellent start to lead the pack into the tight first turn at the top of the hill. In spite of an early challenge from Brad Binder, Bagnaia cruised to victory in Austria, finishing more than five seconds ahead of the KTM rider to claim his fifth grand prix win of the year. Having completed his third sprint/grand prix double of the season, Bagnaia is currently 62 points ahead of Jorge Martin in the standings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After a sad DNF in the sprint race, Marco Bezzecchi finished third to complete the podium. The top five also included Luca Marini and Alex Marquez. Bagnaia's main challenger for the championship, Jorge Martin, came in ninth after receiving a time penalty for triggering a multi-rider collision.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Austrian GP: Race Result</h2>

<p>On Sunday's grand prix, Yamaha factory rider Franco Morbidelli finished 11th, one spot ahead of Honda's Marc Marquez, who was the only rider to use the soft rear tyre. This was Marquez's first race finish of the season in a Sunday grand prix. Johann Zarco, riding a Pramac Ducati, finished in 13th place, behind rookies Augusto Fernandez of Tech3 and Jack Miller.</p>

<p>Pol Espargaro (Tech3) fell out of the points and into 16th place after receiving a three-second time penalty after neglecting to comply with a long lap penalty for breaching track limits too many times. Fabio Di Giannantonio of Gresini, Takaaki Nakagami of LCR, Lorenzo Savadori of Aprilia, and Iker Lecuona of LCR rounded out the field. In addition to Joan Mir race crash, both RNF Aprilias (sporting Barbie-inspired liveries on Sunday) also failed to cross the finish line.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Austrian GP: Marc Marquez Finishes Sunday Race</h2>

<p>Finally completing his first Sunday race of the year, Marc Marquez finished 12th in the Austrian <a href="https://www.autox.com/moto-gp/">MotoGP</a>. The Repsol Honda racer has had an injury-plagued 2023, and he enters this weekend's race at the Red Bull Ring having never finished a grand prix. In the context of the 10th round of the MotoGP season in Austria, Marquez successfully finished a race without any notable incidents, thus adding to the rebuilding of his confidence. For the first time since the 2022 Malaysian MotoGP, he finished the day with points.</p>

<p>However, his teammate Joan Mir cannot make the same boast. Since the opening weekend in Portimao, he has not finished a grand prix and his most recent DNF was in Austria. In his despair, Mir had even considered retiring at the young age of 25 over the summer. After his Silverstone setback, Marquez promised to spend the rest of 2023 regaining confidence and perfecting his bike in preparation for the next season.</p>

<p>With 19 points (some of which he earned in sprint races), Marquez is now 19th in the MotoGP standings. Among the full-time riders, Mir has only five points, which places him 26th overall.</p>


MotoGP Austrian GP: Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia Dominates at Red Bull Ring for Fifth Race Win of 2023 Season

After leading from start to finish in the 2023 Austrian MotoGP at Red Bull Ring, Francesco Bagnaia clinched his third double of the season.  The KTM squad took home another podium, with Brad Binder and Marco Bezzecchi finishing second and third, respectively.
