<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/">Tata Motors</a>, the country's leading automotive manufacturer headquartered in Mumbai, has reached an impressive milestone by achieving a domestic&nbsp;sales figure of 20 lakh SUVs. The manufacturer's SUV portfolio currently consists of&nbsp;the ICE-powered Safari, Harrier, Nexon&nbsp;and Punch,&nbsp;along with the electrified Punch&nbsp;and Nexon.&nbsp;

Tata's journey to 20 lakh units began with the launch of the two-door&nbsp;Sierra SUV in 1991. The introduction of the Nexon in 2017 marked the company's entry into the compact SUV segment, further expanding&nbsp;its footprint in the Indian market. Tata's reach extended beyond the compact SUV segment with the sub-compact Punch SUV in the same year. Tata&nbsp;kicked off the EV offensive in India in January 2020 when the company's first zero-emission passenger vehicle – the Nexon EV – was launched to set the tone for its transition to electric mobility in India. Its&nbsp;Punch EV is the youngest electric vehicle from the homegrown automaker. Launched in January 2024,&nbsp;the Punch EV is the 5-star rated vehicle recently tested alongside the Nexon EV by&nbsp;Bharat NCAP.&nbsp;

<h2>Tata Harrier, Safari: Save up to Rs 1.40 Lakh</h2>

To celebrate&nbsp;this achievement, Tata has launched&nbsp;the 'King of SUVs'&nbsp;campaign in India, bringing down the prices of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/harrier/">Harrier</a> and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/safari/">Safari</a>. The Tata Safari and the Harrier can now be had at an effective starting&nbsp;price&nbsp;of Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 14.99 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. This reflects a price decrease of Rs 70,000 for the Safari&nbsp;and Rs 50,000 for the Harrier. Besides, these SUVs can be had&nbsp;with benefits of up to Rs&nbsp;1.40 lakh, although applicable&nbsp;to select variants.

<h2>Tata EVs: Save up to Rs 1.30 Lakh</h2>

As for its EV line-up including <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/nexon-ev/">Nexon EV</a>, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/tiago-ev/">Tiago EV</a>, and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/punch-ev/">Punch EV</a>, Tata has announced benefits ranging between Rs 30,000 and Rs 1.30 lakh. However, these benefits do not cover the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/tigor-ev/">Tigor EV</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Safari, Harrier and More Help Tata Motors Cross 20 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone, Get up to Rs 1.40 Lakh Benefits

The Tata Safari and the Harrier can be had at an effective starting price of Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 14.99 lakh, respectively. The prices are ex-showroom.

Tata Motors recently launched the updated Harrier and the&nbsp;Safari in the Indian market, with prices&nbsp;starting from Rs&nbsp;15.49 lakh to Rs 26.44 lakh and Rs&nbsp;16.19 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh, respectively. All prices are ex-showroom. To take the competition up to its rivals, particularly the Mahindra XUV700 and the&nbsp;refreshed Kia Seltos, the new Tata SUVs will be offered with lane keep assist, a measure that will enhance the road safety of the passengers. Although the SUV siblings (which get a slew of updates inside out)&nbsp;don't skimp on safety features, they do not currently pack in this&nbsp;useful feature of lane keep assist.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;other ADAS features (blind spot detection,&nbsp;forward collision warning,&nbsp;autonomous&nbsp;emergency braking, lane departure warning,&nbsp;rear cross-traffic alert, etc.) were added to the Safari and the Harrier pre-facelifts in January&nbsp;2023. But, thanks to a transition from a hydraulic power steering to an electronic power steering setup,&nbsp;lane keep assist on the facelifted versions is now in the realm of&nbsp;reality.&nbsp;

Lane keep assist, part of the ADAS suite, is a system that alerts and directs a driver back into their lane when one has drifted out of it or misjudged a corner. Tata said that it did not&nbsp;introduce&nbsp;this feature on the initial lot of the recently launched SUVs as it was still calibrating the system for final production. Having done that, this feature will be rolled out in the upcoming units. As for early car buyers, they will get it via a software update to the steering system. This feature update will up the ante on the safety tech front.

<h2>Tata Safari, Harrier Facelifts: GNCAP Crash Test Results</h2>

On October 17, Global NCAP announced the crash test results for the new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/harrier/">Harrier</a> and the Safari. Both&nbsp;scored a 5-star safety rating and became the first&nbsp;Indian cars with the highest GNCAP score&nbsp;for adult and child occupant safety. The timing of these crash crash tests was&nbsp;significant as these were among the last few cars to be tested under the 'Safer Cars For India'&nbsp;programme&nbsp;before the&nbsp;Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP)&nbsp;comes into effect on October 1.

In Adult Occupant Protection, the facelifted versions&nbsp;received&nbsp;33.05 points out of 34 points. Meanwhile,&nbsp;the refreshed models secured 45 out of 49 points in&nbsp;child occupant protection,&nbsp;including&nbsp;a&nbsp;child restraint system (CRS) installation score of 12 points and a dynamic score of 24 points.&nbsp;

<h2>Tata Safari, Harrier Facelifts: Powertrain&nbsp;</h2>

While the Indian carmaker has confirmed the 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine (168bhp/280Nm)&nbsp;for the SUV siblings&nbsp;at a later date, both models&nbsp;as of now continue to be powered by a&nbsp;2.0-litre&nbsp;Kryotec diesel motor with 168bhp and 350Nm. The diesel unit is paired with&nbsp;a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The latter is only available from the Adventure Plus variant onwards. Having said that, the&nbsp;2023 Tata Harrier is offered in four trim levels&nbsp;–&nbsp;Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Fearless, while the Safari facelift comes in Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished trim options.&nbsp;

The new Harrier has a manual fuel efficiency of 16.80 km/l and an automated fuel efficiency of 14.60 km/l. The asserted fuel efficiency for the refreshed Safari is 16.30km/l for the manual and 14.50km/l for the automatic.&nbsp;

<h2>Tata Safari, Harrier Facelifts: Other Safety Features</h2>

The Safari and Harrier are based on the same vehicle platform, however, the Safari can seat up to seven people, whereas the Harrier offers a maximum capacity of five. In addition to Level-2 ADAS technology with 17 driver assistance capabilities,&nbsp;the newly launched SUVs also offer up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, a tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, driver attention alert, hill descent control, emergency call, and breakdown alert.

<h2>Tata Safari, Harrier Facelifts: Price</h2>

The price of the Tata Harrier facelift&nbsp;starts at Rs 15.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 26.44&nbsp;lakh, while the&nbsp;2023 Safari retails between Rs&nbsp;16.19 lakh and&nbsp;Rs 27.34&nbsp;lakh.&nbsp;Prices are ex-showroom, India.

<h2>2023 Tata Harrier/Safari</h2>

The homegrown automaker recently disclosed that the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/harrier/">Harrier</a> and the Safari Facelifts will go on sale in our market on October 17. The updated versions of these Tata cars boast many changes, inside and out, along with fresh amenities. However, on a mechanical level, both the SUVs are the same and continue to employ the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel motor that produces 168bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. In terms of price, the upcoming Harrier and the Safari models are expected to ask for a higher premium over their outgoing versions.&nbsp;

<h2>Kia Sonet Facelift</h2>

The Kia Sonet is heading towards a facelift for India. The car is likely to feature significant enhancements following the generational change, as evidenced by its numerous test mules. It will likely have a fully digital instrument cluster, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technologies and a 360-degree camera. As far as the powertrain is concerned,&nbsp;the car will not go under any modification, and&nbsp;continue to offer the 83bhp 1.2-litre normally aspirated petrol, 120bhp 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 115bhp 1.5-litre turbo diesel as options. There is no official update from Kia, but industry reports suggest that the facelift version of the Sonet may arrive sometime soon in India.&nbsp;

<h2>Tata Punch EV</h2>

The Tata Punch EV has been seen multiple times on Indian streets undergoing road testing, suggesting that its launch is near. Although no official confirmation has been made, the electrified Punch is expected to enter our market before the end of this year. According to the previous leaked pictures, the Punch EV will have a front-mounted charging outlet built into the bumper. In terms of features, the upcoming Punch will reportedly have a 10.25-inch touchscreen entertainment system with wireless compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a new alloy wheel design, a refreshed two-spoke steering wheel, and more. The revised ALFA platform, a permanent synchronous motor, and a liquid-cooled battery will all be a part of the upcoming electric Punch.

<h2>New-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift</h2>

Maruti Suzuki hasn't officially announced anything, but rumours are circulating in the Indian automotive market that a new-generation Swift is in the works. According to market reports, the new Swift will arrive in India in early 2024 with a slew of design and feature upgrades. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire, like its hatchback sibling, is also slated to get a facelift. Both versions are anticipated to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with Toyota's Atkinson cycle technology. As shown in the previous spy images, the forthcoming SUV will have a revamped rear bumper, wheel design, and taillamp, among other enhancements. There is currently no official announcement, but market reports hint that the carmaker may add more technologies to the SUV, such as a 360-degree camera and ADAS. Mechanically, the new Creta SUV is anticipated to retain the same engine lineup. However, a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed DCT gearbox could be on offer.&nbsp;

With the addition of the new variant, both the SUVs now get the convenience of a six-speed automatic transmission along with the features and trims of the XT+ variant. Tata Safari XTA+ - Rs 20.08 lakh (ex-showroom)

Along with the addition of an automatic gearbox and a sunroof, both the Harrier and the Safari continue to be the same as the other XT+ models in the line-up. The engine is the same FCA source 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder motor that pushes out 167bhp at 3,750rpm and 350Nm between 1,750-2,500rpm.

Tata claims that the Safari and Harrier are collectively leading the SUV segment with a 41.2 per cent market share as of Q1 FY22. The key rivals to the Tata Safari are the MG Hector Plus and the Hyundai Alcazar. The highly anticipated Mahindra XUV700 – which will be showcased soon – will most likely eat into the market share of the Tata Safari.

The Tata Harrier mainly rivals MG Hector. The pricing of a few variants of the Tata Harrier also overlaps with the Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.
