Commenting on the occasion&nbsp;Mamadou Diallo, Senior Vice President of Auto Sales, at American Honda Motor Co. said, "Leveraging Honda fuel cell technology expertise continues to play a critical role in our global goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. Honda has launched the 2024&nbsp;CR-V Sport-L trim in California (the US). It is available in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. In terms of pricing, the Sport-L&nbsp;FWD stands at&nbsp;$ 36,350&nbsp;(around&nbsp;Rs 29.95&nbsp;lakh), while the Sport-L 4WD asks for&nbsp;$ 37,850 (around Rs 31.19 lakh). Both prices are ex-showroom. The new offering sits between&nbsp;the turbocharged&nbsp;CR-V EX-L and the top-spec Sport Touring hybrid model. The CR-V is the company's flagship SUV model that starts at $ 29,500 (around Rs 24.30 lakh, ex-showroom) for the LX (2WD) trim and goes up to $ 39,500 (around Rs 32.54 lakh, ex-showroom).&nbsp;Note that all the abovementioned prices are exclusive of the destination charge of $ 1,295. Honda says that the 2024 CR-V will arrive in Honda dealerships with an expanded line-up&nbsp;on June 14 this year, including the new hybrid-electric powered Sport-L trim.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Honda CR-V line-up comprises three turbocharged trims and three hybrid-powered trims. <h2>2023 Honda CR-V: Exterior</h2>

The new CR-V keeps the overall design of its predecessor&nbsp;but gets a new eye-catching front fascia with a wide aggressive grille and two modern headlamps. Each of the two available engine variants in Europe will have a unique grille style. The rear of the car features fewer modifications than the front compared to the previous generation CR-V, with the taillights keeping their basic form but getting new interior graphics. The fact that the new CR-V has expanded in every dimension is also significant. The crossover is longer, taller, and wider&nbsp;for the 2023 model year, all of which translates into more passenger space inside.&nbsp;Further, the 1.6-inch larger wheelbase provides 0.6-inch added legroom at the back and up to 18 per cent more luggage space, based on the configuration.

The inside likewise appears to be relatively familiar, but Honda claims that the use of better-quality materials gives it a luxurious appearance. The auto manufacturer&nbsp;has committed to solely selling electric vehicles in Europe, and therefore, the CR-V is also offered as a self-charging hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The e:PHEV model, the first plug-in hybrid Honda for European buyers, stands out, for it has an all-electric&nbsp;driving range of 82 kilometres.&nbsp;At a battery temperature of 25 °C (77 °F), a full charge can be achieved in just 2.5 hours.

Two 'lightweight and high-output on-board electric motors' are coupled with a naturally aspirated (NA) 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in both electrified powertrains for increased performance. The e:PHEV will most likely have a larger-capacity lithium-ion battery compared to the e:HEV; however, Honda has not indicated&nbsp;whether the two kinds of batteries will have different power outputs. The latter also has an AWD emblem on the tailgate, indicating the presence of&nbsp;an all-wheel-drive system from Honda.

The prices of the Honda CR-V will be disclosed closer to the vehicle's market debut in Europe this year. Models like the Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester, and upcoming Skoda Kodiaq are some of its market competitors.

<h2>2023 Honda CR-V: Will it&nbsp;Come to India?</h2>

Unfortunately, Honda has no immediate plans to import this version of the CR-V to India. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/honda-elevate-suv-to-unveil-in-india-on-june-6-heres-what-to-expect-113226/">Rather, the Japanese carmaker is developing a domestically produced compact SUV, called Honda Elevate, which will go on sale the following month.</a> The brand-new Elevate is anticipated to have an extensive list of features and will be available with both gasoline-only and gasoline-hybrid engine options.

Honda CR-V receives generational update

The Honda CR-V is one of the aspirational SUVs from Honda that has been around for a long time, and it has now received a full generation update! The car has been revealed for the North-American market, but we don’t expect too many changes to the Asian model of the SUV when it is revealed.

Honda is working on a new generation of CR-V, which could have its global premiere by the end of this year. However, it is too soon to confirm if the new 6th-gen CR-V will make a comeback in the Indian market or not.

Honda India pulled the plug on the CR-V a few years ago; however, globally, the CR-V is quite a successful crossover; and it is about time that the Japanese carmaker brings in a new generation of the CR-V, as the outgoing model made its debut back in 2017.

That being said, Honda is working on an all-new CR-V, and this has been confirmed by a leaked patent design. The new CR-V will mostly break cover by 2023 in the international market. It is too soon to confirm if Honda India will launch the new generation of the Honda CR-V or not; but if so, the new CR-V will have to face a new set of rivals, namely, the Citroen C5 Aircross, updated Jeep Compass, upcoming Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV700, and 2022 Skoda Kodiaq.

The new Honda CR-V will be based on a new platform. The engines are expected to be downsized, but the power output is likely to go up. The CR-V will retain the all-wheel-drive system, but the AWD system will be calibrated for improved driveability and not off-roading.

The interior bits are likely to be revamped as well to complement the bolder exterior styling of the new crossover-SUV. The feature list is likely to be longer, and Honda may offer ADAS with the new CR-V. An official unveiling could take place by the end of 2022, and we may have to wait until then for Honda India to reveal its plans regarding the new CR-V.

2023 Honda CR-V design patent leaked

Honda is working on a new generation of CR-V which could make a global premiere by the end of this year. However, it is too soon to confirm if the new 6th-gen CR-V will make a comeback in the Indian market or not.

It's quite evident that Honda's&nbsp;decision to end production at its&nbsp;Greater Noida plant has been taken to secure the brand's immediate future here. As per the company president though, this decision will not influence the brand's future investment plans for&nbsp;India.&nbsp;

As per an official statement released on their website,&nbsp;Honda Cars India Limited&nbsp;(HCIL) has, with immediate effect, put a stop to all vehicle production activity at its Greater Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;The company is not getting rid of the site though, for now. As per the official statement, 'All head office functions, India R&amp;D centre and spare parts operations (including warehouse) for automobiles, two-wheelers&nbsp;and power product business will continue to operate from Greater Noida.'&nbsp;

Over the past few years, Honda's 150-acre Greater Noida plant, with a capacity of&nbsp;1,00,000 units/annum, focused less on production (only the new City was being produced there)&nbsp;and more on the assembly operations of its higher-end CKD kit-based models like the CR-V and the Civic. But with constantly dwindling sales figures of these model, not to mention the slow down caused by the pandemic, the plant was functioning nowhere near its full capacity. Thus, with the closure of the plant, Honda's also pulled the plug on these two models. As a result, HCIL's entire vehicle production will now be concentrated to its second facility at&nbsp;Tapukara, Rajasthan.

Sharing his thoughts on the matter,&nbsp;Mr&nbsp;Gaku Nakanishi (President &amp; CEO –&nbsp;Honda Cars India) said, 'Despite an uptick in sales in the last three months, the current market conditions remain unpredictable for the industry at large. The impact of COVID-19 has pressed us to strengthen our constitution and to achieve the same, HCIL has decided to consolidate its manufacturing operations by making the Tapukara plant a unified manufacturing base. HCIL continues to believe in the resilience of the Indian economy and hope for a quicker recovery of the market. India is an extremely important market in Honda’s global strategy and HCIL is committed to bringing its latest and advanced technology models including electrified vehicles in future.'

The 450-acre Tapukara plant in Rajasthan,&nbsp;with an annual production capacity of&nbsp;1,80,000 units, will now also incorporate&nbsp;the manufacturing of the new fifth-gen City, alongside other&nbsp;high-volume models like the&nbsp;Jazz, Amaze&nbsp;and the WR-V. As per the website, it looks like it's also the end of the road for the previous-gen Honda City that was still in production alongside the new fifth-gen model.

Honda ends vehicle production at Greater Noida plant; Civic & CR-V discontinued in India

As per an official statement released on their website, Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has, with immediate effect, put a stop to all vehicle production activity at its Greater Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh. Thus, with the closure of the plant, Honda's also pulled the plug on the CR-V and the Civic.

Priced at Rs 29.50 lakh, the Honda CR-V Special Edition demands a premium of more than Rs 1.2 lakh over the standard trim. This Special Edition will also be offered with the same 2.0-litre petrol and CVT combo 

To make the most of the upcoming festive season, Honda Cars India Ltd. has introduced its flagship SUV, the CR-V in a Special Edition variant. So far, the CR-V was only offered with a single trim option and was priced at Rs 28.27 lakh. This CR-V Special Edition carries a price tag of Rs 29.50 lakh – essentially demanding over Rs 1.21 lakh more than the standard trim. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.

Changes to the CR-V Special Edition are primarily cosmetic. In fact, this new variant is in line with the CR-V face-lift that was introduced in the international market last year. The front bumper has been reworked and the grille gets a gloss black treatment instead of the chrome on the standard trim. At the back too, the CR-V Special Edition comes with a redesigned bumper. Along the sides, it is likely to sport a different set of alloy wheels as well.

While there will be no cosmetic changes to the interior of the CR-V Special Edition, it will come with some additional features like electrically adjustable front passenger seat, powered tailgate, cornering fog lamps, front parking sensors and more. The standard CR-V already comes equipped with Lanewatch camera, full colour TFT instrumentation, dual-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment and more.

At the heart, the CR-V Special Edition will also be powered by the same 2.0-litre petrol motor that develops 154bhp and 189Nm. This engine will continue to be paired with a CVT.

To better assess the Trailhawk’s performance on the road, we decided to include one of its direct rivals – a similarly priced crossover SUV, the Honda CR-V. The CR-V too comes with a computer-controlled AWD system and has the same ZF 9-speed automatic gearbox as the Compass.

But the similarities end there, as the CR-V is a much larger vehicle. It even has seven seats, and the moment you step inside the cabin, the sheer space – the headroom, shoulder room and legroom – simply amazes you.

The CR-V is all about uncompromised comfort. The cabin feels very inviting, with its dual-tone colour theme and faux-wood inserts all around. High-quality beige leather generously covers everything – even the centre console has leather padding for the front seat occupants to rest their legs on. The cabin is airy and the seats are wonderfully supportive – and I love the electronic bolster adjust for the driver’s seat.&nbsp;

That’s the thing about the CR-V, it spoils you silly with numerous features designed to make the drive stress-free, such as the brake-hold function and button-operated transmission controls – a sacrilege for enthusiasts, but an unbelievably convenient feature. But, like all things great, it too has a problem – namely the third row, which is fairly cramped and is best reserved for children, and that too for only short commutes.&nbsp;

Smooth sailing 
Hit the engine start button and depress the Drive button, and you instantly notice that the ZF gearbox does a brilliant job of masking turbo lag, making the CR-V quite smooth to drive. It’s ideal for driving in the city, owing to its seamless power delivery, fantastic visibility, light steering and seamless gearbox. You really can’t ask for more – the brake hold function even relieves you from working the gearbox buttons at traffic lights.&nbsp;

But the problem with the CR-V becomes apparent when you hit the highway. When you open the taps, the relatively small 1.6-litre engine’s 118bhp simply isn’t enough to give it a strong mid-range, which is typically the preserve of diesel engines. You really feel the need for more power. Now, the ZF gearbox comes to the rescue here, for the Sport mode allows the engine to rev more freely, the gearshifts become faster, and the gears are held for longer to keep the engine in the meat of the powerband. Downshifts are quick too in Sport mode.&nbsp;

And if you’re seeking a more engaging driving experience, you can always use the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel to take manual control of the gearshifts. The CR-V handles brilliantly over fast sweeping bends at high speeds, but it’s the steering feedback that leaves you wanting for more. Overall, the CR-V is actually a whole lot of fun to drive – as long as you don’t intend to push it as if it were a sports car.&nbsp;

Trailhawk transformation 
Now, in terms of on-road driving dynamics, the Jeep Compass has always impressed, with its phenomenal suspension and steering setup – which allows you to enter and exit bends at high speed, while dismissing mid-corner bumps effortlessly. However, for better or worse, the Trailhawk isn’t quite as surefooted.&nbsp;

You see, when you raise a car’s suspension, there’s bound to be a side effect – namely body roll. Compared to the standard model, the Trailhawk’s body roll feels fairly pronounced – which means that you have to work the steering wheel that much more to keep it in line around bends. You can constantly feel the weight of the car shifting through the steering wheel.

In short, the Trailhawk loses some of the on-road composure of the standard Compass. Keep it in a straight line though, and its larger 2.0-litre, 170bhp engine delivers a solid punch in the mid-range, unlike the Honda’s 1.6-litre unit. But, here again, the gearbox is slow to respond. And the Jeep doesn’t have Sport mode to hurry it up either – nor does it have paddle shifters.&nbsp; 
&nbsp; 
So, what do you do? Well, you work the gear lever in Tiptronic mode for faster manual shifts. And, to be honest, the Tiptronic mode works well and makes the transmission as responsive as it ought to be.&nbsp;

The Trailhawk, however, really shines when it comes to ride comfort. You can pretty much throw it around on the worst roads that India has to offer, and the Trailhawk will quietly devour all of it. Thanks also to the higher approach, departure and ramp-over angles, you can drop the car into the deepest potholes without worrying – for the suspension simply cushions everything in an unbelievably silent and comfortable manner. And since the front bumper is quite high now, you have nothing to worry about.&nbsp;

Other highlights of the Compass Trailhawk include its high-quality build and fit-and-finish, a better infotainment screen than the standard model, an all-black interior with red inserts, and a very comfortable second-row seat. The cushions for the rear seats have great under-thigh support, while the backrests are nicely contoured to support your back.&nbsp;

Factor in the incredible ride comfort of the Trailhawk, and the rear seat becomes a nice place to spend time in. The only let-down here is that you might feel a bit cramped compared with the CR-V. Plus, visibility from the rear seat is a little constricted as well. Although, the dual-panel sunroof helps in this regard.&nbsp;

Different strokes for different folks 
The Compass Trailhawk and the CR-V are very different types of crossover SUVs, with entirely different priorities. The CR-V is all about comfort and pampering its occupants, be it in terms of ride quality, handling or driveability. The Trailhawk, on the other hand, is for those who seek the comfort of a crossover but need to deal with the rough stuff on ocassion.&nbsp;

Pay close attention 
It’s now time to find out if that Trail Rated badge makes any difference in terms of the off-road ability of the Jeep Compass. And if so, to what extent? Now, pay close attention, for we’re entering the complex world of automotive jargon.&nbsp;

The Trailhawk’s superior AWD system, as compared to the standard model, features an AWD Lock that allows the transmission to send power to all four wheels up to certain speeds (just like in the standard AWD model). There is the new AWD Low&nbsp;button (or 4WD Low&nbsp;as Jeep likes to call it), which locks the 9-speed autobox in first gear to give you more torque. This is then multiplied by the axle ratio to achieve a higher crawl ratio in AWD Low mode. Never mind the jargon, what you need to know is that it works!&nbsp;

But the difference between an All-Wheel-Drive system and a Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD) system is evident. You see, a 4WD system has a transfer case with two additional gear speeds in a separate gearbox, which significantly increases the twisting force sent to the wheels. As a result, the crawl ratio for 4WD models is far higher than AWD models, as the first gear ratio from the primary gearbox is multiplied first by the low gear wheel of the transfer case and then by the axle ratio.&nbsp;

So, the Wrangler Rubicon Rock-Trac has a crawl ratio of 84:1, as opposed to 20:1 for the Compass. And, for this very reason, an electronic AWD system is no match for a traditional mechanical 4WD system’s torque multiplication.&nbsp;

To show you just how much of a difference this makes over a simple off-road obstacle – a cross axle uphill incline, for instance – we’ve brought a 4WD model along for the ride. On an incline such as this, it’s not enough for a car’s drivetrain to merely carry the weight of the vehicle – it should also be able to work against the added stress of gravity to pull the car up the hill when one or more wheels may not have adequate traction.&nbsp;

First up is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, with its Four-Wheel-Drive system. Slot the primary gearbox into neutral, engage 4WD Low, and shift into first gear, and you can hear the engine howl as you start the uphill climb. At this point, because each wheel has such high torque working on it, via uninterrupted mechanical power flowing from the engine through the gearbox, transfer case and axles, the car simply pulls itself up the incline even if one wheel loses traction momentarily or is in the air. The power of 4WD – it’s addictive!

Next up is the Compass Trailhawk. Slot the primary gearbox in D and depress the AWD Lock and AWD Low, and you become aware of slightly higher engine noise, as the primary first gear ratio is fairly short – it’s 4.70:1. An important point to note here is that the ZF 9-speed in the Trailhawk does not use first gear and just sets off in a higher gear under normal driving conditions. So, you’re never really aware of how short first gear really is.&nbsp;

Nevertheless, as you set off in AWD Low, you can feel the added torque advantage, but as you continue to drive up the incline, if the wheels lose stable traction, the AWD system will cut power to all wheels momentarily – before magically sending a surge of power to each wheel to allow the Compass to scale the incline with absolute ease.&nbsp;

So, while the Trailhawk does feel impressive, driving it on this little incline revealed a very relevant factor of the Jeep AWD system. You see, while off-roading, you encounter certain situations when momentum is key to not getting stuck on loose and slippery surfaces. Now, if the power supply to the wheels is interrupted, the vehicle may bog down.&nbsp;

In fact, even a 4WD vehicle can get stuck in such cases, but a 4WD system’s mechanical energy is not interrupted by anything other than the driver’s right foot. Also, it offers more twisting force to push the weight of the car up the incline.&nbsp;

That aside, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is a great off-roader – with its compact footprint, relative light weight, and excellent approach, departure, and ramp-over angles. Not to mention its 0.2-inch thick high-strength steel skid plates that protect the engine, gearbox, exhaust and fuel tank.&nbsp;

So, unlike the standard model, the Trailhawk is capable of some tough off-roading. All it needs is a transfer case to become a legendary off-roader. But a crossover SUV by design cannot accommodate a low ratio box. But, as a vehicle that performs well on both tarmac and the dirt trail, there’s nothing better than the Compass Trailhawk. &nbsp;

In addition to the standard model’s AWD Lock and multiple off-road drive modes, the Trailhawk has a 4WD Low button &nbsp;that essentially locks the 9-Speed automatic gearbox in first gear. It also gets hill descent control.&nbsp;

With the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, the American automaker has vastly improved the off-road capabilities of the Compass. The Honda CR-V and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, on the other hand, are two very capable cars on dirt and tarmac. So, can the Jeep fend off its rivals? Let's find out.

To test the urban capabilities of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, we lined it up against the Honda CR-V. We also took the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross to measure how much far the Jeep can actually last in a rigorous test.

Honda Cr V
