<p>Aston Martin has debuted a highly limited, track-exclusive version of the Valkyrie hypercar, timed just ahead of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Developed specifically for non-competitive use, this variant – dubbed the Valkyrie LM – borrows extensively from the brand’s endurance racing machine that competes in both the FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech Championship. While it is not homologated for racing, it maintains much of the same engineering and performance DNA. Adam Carter, Aston Martin’s Head of Endurance Motorsport, emphasised that the LM edition is virtually identical to the race-spec car, with only minor alterations made to ensure it is suitable for customers and track-day use.</p><h2>Aston Martin Valkyrie LM: Mechanical Setup</h2><p>The Valkyrie LM delivers performance nearly identical to its competition-spec counterpart, but with subtle refinements. Instead, an open-loop system has been adopted to deliver a more intuitive and driver-friendly throttle response. <br><br>Power continues to be routed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters, ensuring rapid gear changes. The suspension system remains race-bred with double wishbones front and rear, pushrod-actuated torsion bar springs, and adjustable central and side dampers.</p><h2>Aston Martin Valkyrie LM: Interior Layout</h2><p>The cockpit has been designed with a strong focus on safety, visibility, and ease of access. <p>Ahead of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, French automaker Peugeot has unveiled a revised 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar with notable improvements, such as the addition of a rear wing.&nbsp;With its eye-catching new livery and modified rear wing, the 9X8 2024 is expected to boost Peugeot's WEC chances&nbsp;beginning with the forthcoming round in Imola.&nbsp;However, that is not the only significant alteration; Peugeot redesigned 90 per cent&nbsp;of the bodywork. There's no doubt that&nbsp;at first glance, the race car appears to be essentially the same, but a deeper look reveals some new components. Read on to learn more.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Peugeot&nbsp;9X8 Hypercar: Important Updates</h2>

<p>After opting for equal-width tyres&nbsp;to avoid a 50/50 weight distribution, the 9X8 now has tyres measuring 290mm up front and 340mm down back, mirroring the ones&nbsp;on&nbsp;its Hypercar category&nbsp;opponents.&nbsp;This change meant that the car's aerodynamic concept had to be completely reworked, with a stronger focus on producing downforce from the upper body surfaces. Compared to its predecessor's underbody ground effect-dependent design, the newly added rear wing is one example of this. Despite the latest enhancements, the&nbsp;2024 9X8&nbsp;maintains continuity and eliminates the need for further crash testing by keeping its original monocoque and crash structures in place.</p>

<p>The company says it&nbsp;has been able to improve the hypercar's&nbsp;performance and durability,&nbsp;by refining the powertrain through the rearward redistribution of weight. Peugeot&nbsp;decided to redesign the 9X8&nbsp;to&nbsp;decrease its reliance on modifications to the Balance of Performance (BoP), which would free up the team to concentrate on creating a competitive car concept free from legal restrictions.</p>

<p>Olivier Jansonnie, Peugeot Sport Technical Director&nbsp;said, “We made choices that are no longer the right ones now and this difference in performance was not sufficiently offset by the BOP (Balance of Performance) in 2023. The idea was therefore to go back to a car design that is similar to our rivals' car design so that it would then be given equivalent treatment by the BOP. This is why we decided to drop the use of identical 31/31cm tyre widths on all the wheels, choosing to fit 29cm tyres at the front and 34cm tyres at the rear. Strictly speaking, it’s not a new car, as it has the same chassis, but there are a lot of upgrades."</p>

<h2>Peugeot&nbsp;9X8 Hypercar: Powertrain Details</h2>

<p>While mentioning that the chassis was brought over unaltered, the team&nbsp;made no mention of powertrain&nbsp;upgrades. The new 9X8 is likely powered by the same hybrid system as last year, which combines a 2.6-litre V6 twin-turbo, a motor-generator unit positioned in front, and a single-speed reducer. The electric motor puts out&nbsp;264bhp&nbsp;while&nbsp;the V6 engine produces 662bhp of maximum power.</p>

<h2>Peugeot and 2024 WEC Season</h2>

<p>Peugeot wants to make use of the improved 2024 9X8's elements to&nbsp;constantly vie for podiums and wins during the 2024 <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/le-mans-24-hours-5-most-iconic-cars-that-raced-in-wec-113512/">WEC</a> season.&nbsp;After making its premiere in the Imola 6 Hours, the car will go through a rigorous testing period that includes endurance simulations to get ready for the renowned <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/le-mans-24-hours-history-everything-you-need-to-know-about-worlds-oldest-endurance-racing-event-113517/">Le Mans 24 Hours</a> in June. The company plans to maximise the potential of the new 9X8 by using lessons learned from past races.&nbsp;</p>


WEC: Peugeot Unveils Updated 9X8 Hypercar With a Big Rear Wing

Peugeot says it has been able to improve the 9X8 hypercar's performance and durability, by refining the powertrain through the rearward redistribution of weight. 

<p>Alpine has officially disclosed its driver lineups and the 2024 Hypercar, the A424, for the upcoming 2024 World Endurance Championship, marking its return to the Hypercar class. The team's new livery was unveiled at the same time as the A524 Formula 1 vehicle, making it a twin launch that highlighted the business's commitment to its top racing programmes.</p>

<p>With two A424s raced by the Signatech team, Alpine, Renault's sporting branch, will make a triumphant return to the FIA WEC Hypercar class in the forthcoming season. With its 3.4-litre turbo V6 Mecachrome engine and LMP2 backbone from ORECA, the A424 is clearly an LMDh-spec prototype. As he addressed the assembled press and virtual spectators via live stream, Alpine Motorsport VP <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/f1-alpine-livery-for-2024-revealed-ocon-and-gasly-to-race-a524-with-aggressive-approach-116086/">Bruno Famin was instrumental in introducing the two vehicles at the press conference</a>.</p>

<p>The A424's livery combines modernism and aesthetic appeal, featuring a predominantly black design with vibrant blue patterns. This unique and eye-catching look contributes to defining Alpine Motorsports' identity.</p>

<h2>Alpine A424: Driver Lineup</h2>

<p>For the forthcoming FIA World Endurance Championship, the Alpine Endurance Team has announced its driver lineups, which include both established and up-and-coming stars. In vehicle #36, <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/f1-mick-schumacher-optimistic-about-alpine-wec-opportunity-as-a-pathway-to-return-to-formula-1-115546/">Mick Schumacher makes his championship debut</a> alongside seasoned drivers Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere. Meanwhile, young star Charles Milesi returns for his second season with the squad, and vehicle #35 sees the addition of Ferdinand Habsburg and Paul-Loup Chatin. Jules Gounon will start the 2024 season as the backup driver.</p>

<p>This being the A424’s first season, Alpine is proceeding with caution. The A424 heads to Qatar for the season prologue and the first race of the season later this month.</p>


2024 WEC: Alpine Reveals A424 Hypercar Livery for FIA World Endurance Championship

Alpine, which will return to the Hypercar class in the 2024 World Endurance Championship, has announced its driver rosters.

<p>The Bugatti Bolide was first shown off as an outlandish notion, but it has now evolved into one of French company's most daring endeavours. Bugatti stated in 2021 that the track-only W16 hypercar will enter restricted production, with a three-year development schedule preceding 2024 deliveries. Each of the 40 models will set its owner back EUR 4 million and include a stripped-down, lightweight body and legendary quad-turbocharged W16 power plant. At the 100th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Bugatti Bolide was shown to the public just before initial deliveries began. Although Bugatti did not take part in the 100th anniversary running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, its history is inextricably intertwined with the legendary event. Having its new, over-the-top hypercar debut at the circuit during the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a fitting way to introduce it to the world.</p>

<h2>Bugatti Bolide at Le Mans 24 Hours 2023</h2>

<p>Bugatti's newest and wildest creation, the Bolide, was unveiled to the public at the same time as the celebration of 100 years of Le Mans. In honour of the historic event, the track-only hypercar was driven around the famed Circuit de la Sarthe once before the green flag was dropped to start the competition.</p>

<p>Andy Wallace, a veteran of the event, drove the vehicle. In 1988, he won the race and joined an exclusive group of racing car drivers who had also triumphed at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring before retiring.</p>

<h2>Bugatti Bolide: Design</h2>

<p>The production Bolide will produce almost three tonnes of downforce. When the air is compressed at the front by the splitter and then let to expand beneath the diffuser, a suction action is created that helps to lower the Bolide to the earth. Specialised air curtains in front of the front wheels deflect air away from the automobile, therefore lowering drag. In order to maximise efficiency, Bugatti fashioned the wing mirrors to channel air into the side intercoolers.</p>

<p>The aero kit can be tuned by the drivers to optimise both downforce and drag. Owners may adjust the back wing to suit the specifics of each given racecourse. Bugatti included a real rear-view mirror as part of the track-focused design so that drivers could more accurately gauge the distance to vehicles behind them.</p>

<h2>Bugatti Bolide: Engine</h2>

<p>The Bolide is powered by a 1,578bhp, 8.0-litre W16 engine that is quad-turbocharged. At high speeds, it creates roughly 2,630 kg of downforce while weighing just 1,650kg.</p>

Bugatti’s Track-Only Bolide with 1578bhp Makes its Public Debut at Le Mans

The world was introduced to the Bolide, Bugatti's newest and craziest invention, at the same time as the 100th anniversary of the Le Mans race was being celebrated. Before the competition began, the track-only hypercar was given a ceremonial lap of the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe.

<p>For the next FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024, Alpine has unveiled the A424_β Hypercar. The performance-focused Renault sub-brand has been competing in the LMP2 category for the last decade, and it now aspires to compete in and win the premier LMDh class as well. An electric road car line that Alpine plans to launch globally may benefit greatly from a victory in the premier category at Le Mans. The Alpine A424_β is powered by a Bosch hybrid unit and a battery made by Williams, in addition to a 3.4-litre 90-degree single-turbo V6 engine and a seven-speed Xtrac transmission. Alpine, although a hybrid hypercar, is very light, weighing about 1,030kgs.</p>

<h2>Alpine A424_β: Design</h2>

<p>The Alpenglow hypercar concept was revealed last year as an inspiration for the carbon body version of these vehicles, but its fender forms and cockpit bubble are much more outlandish. A massive fin reaches from the top of the vehicle to the back of the wing. The roof snorkel is a nice touch&nbsp;and a clear reference to the 1978 Le Mans-winning Alpine A442.</p>

<h2>Alpine A424_β: Powertrain</h2>

<p>The Alpine A424_β is propelled by a 3.4-litre 90-degree single-turbo V6 engine paired with a seven-speed Xtrac gearbox, a hybrid unit built by Bosch, and a battery supplied by Williams. When compared to the four-figure power outputs of today's road-legal supercars, the combined 671bhp from the combustion engine and 67bhp from the hybrid system may not seem much.</p>

<p>Oreca's double wishbone suspension, pushrod dampers, electronic power steering, and carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston dampers are all part of the carbon chassis. All four wheels are 18 inches in diameter;&nbsp;however, the front wheels are 12.5 inches wide,&nbsp;while the rear ones are 14 inches wide.</p>

<h2>New Manufacturers to Enter WEC in 2024</h2>

<p>The LMDh formula has garnered significant attention from various manufacturers in recent times. Porsche was among the first to announce their entry with the Porsche 963, setting the stage for other manufacturers to follow suit. Cadillac, Acura, and BMW quickly joined the fray. However, it is worth noting that BMW and Honda's Acura division will solely focus on racing in North America for the 2023 season. In the subsequent year, BMW has plans to expand its racing endeavours and compete in the esteemed World Endurance Championship (WEC).&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition to the manufacturers mentioned earlier, the upcoming year will witness the entry of Lamborghini and Alpine into the LMDh formula. Lamborghini has expressed its intent to participate in both the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) starting in 2024.</p>

<p>Le Mans 24-Hour Race:&nbsp;The 91st running of the Le Mans 24 Hours this year is the centennial edition since it coincides with the centenary of the race's debut running in 1923. In addition, the 2023 World Endurance Championship&nbsp;race will include a leading category of automobiles suited for such an event, with 16 entries from seven companies in the Hypercar class, from which the overall victor will emerge barring an almost unique combination of circumstances. That means that there are two sets of regulations that a manufacturer may use to create a vehicle for the highest class in the series. This year's Hypercar lineup at Le Mans includes 16 vehicles, 9 of which are LMHs and 6 of which are LMDhs. However, numerous uncertainties surround these cutting-edge courses. <h2>Le Mans 24 Hours: LMH vs LMDh</h2>

<p>Both LMDh and LMH refer to Le Mans Daytona Hybrid and Le Mans Hypercar, respectively. In the FIA World Endurance Championship, both cars will compete in the Hypercar category. The Le Mans race will use LMH vehicles. LMDh constructors, on the other hand, must still have a choice whether or not to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Both the WEC and IMSA championships imply this category, however, some teams would prefer to compete for the IMSA title than the WEC.</p>

<p>With LMH, a carmaker may create its own vehicle from the ground up, or rather the front end all the way to the back. Everything associated with the hybrid system, if present, must be located in front of the vehicle's wheels. The Toyotas, the Peugeots, and the Ferraris are all four-wheel drive, while the Glickenhauses and the Vanwalls are rear-wheel drive non-hybrids.</p>

<p>In order to compete in LMDh, teams must rely heavily on commercially available parts. The car's monocoque and suspension must be one of the four licenced builders' latest generation LMP2 designs. These constructors are ORECA, Dallara, Ligier, and Multimatic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>All vehicles share a hybrid system mounted behind the back axle. Bosch provides the motor generator unit (MGU), Williams Advanced Engineering provides the battery, and Xtrac manufactures the gearbox; all three companies collaborated on the overall design. The manufacturer is responsible for the development of the aerodynamics, provides the internal combustion component of the engine, and is free to design the electronics as it sees fit.</p>

<p>Despite having very varied designs, all of the vehicles must adhere to the identical performance standards set out in the regulations. The performance windows within which each vehicle must fall are a core concept of both the LMH and LMDh. Maximum power and aerodynamic downforce and drag objectives are the same.</p>

<p>Allowing the manufacturer to create vehicles with a unique appearance and use aesthetic elements from their road cars is a major concept of both LMH and LMDh regulations. The most extreme example is the rear wingless, futuristic Peugeot 9X8 LMH.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Le Mans 24 Hours: Hypercar Teams</h2>

<p>Before Peugeot joined the Hypercar class after Le Mans last year, Toyota was the only major manufacturer to compete in the class for its first season and a half. The Glickenhaus-Pipo 007 LMH and an Alpine-Gibson A480 LMP1 vehicle were the only competition the Japanese company had faced up to that point. It was a slowed-down version of the ORECA design previously raced as the Rebellion R-13 to compete with the LMHs.</p>

Le Mans 24-Hour Race: There has been a surge of manufacturer curiosity around the LMDh method.  It all started with Porsche and its 963, but soon after Cadillac, Acura, and BMW got to work on their own versions.

<p>Le Mans 24-Hour Race: Ferrari will take the lead at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 50 years. Hyperpole Qualifying took place on Thursday night, with Ferrari AF Corse's Antonio Fuoco taking the incredible pole position to lead a front-row lockout from two new Ferrari 499P Hypercars. However, there is still a long way to go, as the Grand Prix d'Endurance's centennial edition will put the renowned Italian brand through its paces like never before in the last few decades. The two Ferraris went out at the beginning of the 30-minute Hyperpole session, and they promptly established a breathtaking speed. Alessandro Pier Guidi's 3m23.987s in the #51 Ferrari LMH set the early pace, followed closely by Fuoco's 3m23.987s in the #50 Ferrari LMH. Fuoco increased the ante by delivering the first sub-3m23s performance of the week so far, beating his teammate by 0.773s.</p>

<p>Nasr was just eight hundredths of a second behind the New Zealander, while Hartley, driving the #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid, was over 1.5 seconds behind Fuoco. The #3 Cadillac V-Series.R caught fire on the Mulsanne straight with just six minutes remaining, causing significant delays for both Toyota and Porsche. Due to the fuel leakage problems, the car's fuel cell was changed.</p>

<h2>Le Mans 24 hours: Porsche Secures Top Position for LMDh</h2>

<p>In the hyperpole session for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Porsche Penske Motorsport works team secured places four and seven. Felipe Nasr, Mathieu Jaminet, and Nick Tandy start the race from the second row of the Porsche 963 field on the 13,626km Circuit des 24 Heures. Three places back on the grid are Frédéric Makowiecki, Michael Christensen, and Dane Cameron. Kévin Estre, André Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor will share the No. 6 hybrid prototype and start the endurance classic in ninth place.</p>

<p>Two Porsche 963s from Porsche Penske Motorsport have made it to the hyperpole, giving them a shot at the 24 Hours of Le Mans pole position shootout. Two hybrid prototypes from the factory team, with the starting numbers 5 and 75, qualified fifth and eighth, respectively, on Wednesday. The No. 6 car's sibling finished ninth, just outside the top eight spots. None of the eight Porsche 911 RSR competing in GTE-Am made it to Friday's hyperpole.</p>

Le Mans 24-Hour Race: A fire in the #3 Cadillac V-Series.R caused significant delays for Toyota and Porsche on the Mulsanne straight with six minutes remaining. A new fuel cell was installed on the car as a result of fuel leakage problems.

<p>Le Mans 24 Hours: A total of 62 cars took part in qualifying at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, and the session was marked by repeated red lights due to offs in various classes. Even more astonishing given the immense length of the Circuit de la Sarthe as a circuit was the fact that all three classes were very tight throughout, with Ferrari showing actual speed in the Hypercar class on their first ever outing at Le Mans. The two 499P Le Mans Hypercars made by the Italian automaker were the most impressive of the bunch, easily beating out the third- and fourth-placed Toyota GR010 HYBRIDs. Despite being somewhat delayed at the end of his lap by a GTE Am Aston Martin, Alessandro Pier Guidi posted a very respectable 3m25.412s in the #51 Ferrari with around 15 minutes to go. However, Antonio Fuoco's sister #50 vehicle quickly overtook him with a time of 3 minutes and 25.213 seconds.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Fans of 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button's Garage 56 entry will be disappointed to learn that Button does not compete in a specific class because the #24 NASCAR entry is considered a "Innovative Car," and teammate Mike Rockenfeller set a time several seconds faster than the entire LMGTE Am field in the car's most formidable rivals.</span></p>

<p>To decide the starting order for the race on Saturday afternoon, the top eight drivers in each class have qualified for Thursday night's 30-minute Hyperpole session.</p>
