The World Car Awards have finally announced its winners at the 2025&nbsp;New York International Auto Show, after a month of anticipation&nbsp;since the finalists were revealed. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> Inster/Casper Electric emerged&nbsp;as the World Electric Vehicle of the Year, surpassing rivals like the Kia EV3&nbsp;and the Porsche Macan Electric. Although an official announcement is pending, rumours are circulating online that the South Korean carmaker may bring the model here to rival models like the Tata <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/punch/">Punch</a>, Tata <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/tiago/">Tiago</a>, and the Maruti Suzuki <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/wagon-r/">WagonR</a>. If launched, the car will be positioned below the compact <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/exter/">Exter</a> in the lineup. It is expected to succeed the Santro, which Hyundai no longer offers in India.&nbsp;Market assumptions suggest that the sportier styling of the Casper may garner more market attention&nbsp;than the Santro's traditional hatchback appearance in our country. <h2>Hyundai Casper: Exterior and Interior&nbsp;</h2>

In terms of appearance, the Casper is an amalgamation of a tallboy hatchback and an SUV. It is 1,595mm wide, 1,575mm tall, and 3,595mm long, with a 2,400mm wheelbase. The crossover's unique design features include&nbsp;top-mounted LED DRLs, round headlamps, a mesh grille, squared wheel arches, and alloy wheels.

The Casper's interior has a digital instrument console, a gear lever located on the dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a floating touchscreen infotainment system. The global-spec version also comes with ADAS.&nbsp;

<h2>Hyundai Casper: Other Highlights</h2>

In South Korea, the Casper has two petrol engine options: a 1.0-litre NA (85bhp) and a 1.0-litre turbocharged (99bhp). Both versions get manual and automatic transmission choices. The Hyundai Casper is likely to be offered in India with the NA petrol engine, with manual or AMT gearbox, though no confirmation has been provided.

The Hyundai Casper is expected to cost around Rs 5 lakh in India. It will compete against popular hatchbacks such as the Tata Tiago, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/alto/">Maruti Suzuki Alto</a>, and the WagonR, although there will be no direct opponents. Depending on the equipment list, some variants of the crossover may compete with the Tata Punch and the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/citroen/c3/">Citroen C3</a>.

The new Hyundai Casper is expected to be launched in the Indian market by early 2022 and the Korean carmaker will position it alongside the Tata <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/tata/punch/">Punch</a>, and the Maruti Suzuki <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/ignis/">Ignis</a>. However, Hyundai will priorities the launch of its Casper in the international markets first.

Internationally, the new micro-SUV will get the brand’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor – paired with an optional automatic gearbox. When launched in India, Hyundai is likely to offer the Casper with a 1.2-litre engine with its lower variants. The higher variants of the Casper are most likely to be offered with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor. The power figures are expected to be close to 100bhp for the higher variants and the. The lower variants will most likely be tuned to push out between 75bhp and 80bhp. Hyundai India will most likely offer an iMT – alongside a five-speed manual – to keep the cost in check.

Hyundai has only unveiled the exteriors of the Casper. The company hasn’t unveiled the specific dimension yet, but expect the Casper to be reasonably shorter in length compared to the India-spec Hyundai <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/venue/">Venue</a>.

While Hyundai has not revealed the interiors yet, expect features such as a large&nbsp;touch-operated infotainment. The multimedia system will include Apple Carplay and Android Auto and most likely Hyundai’s in-house connected tech. An all-digital instrument cluster will be a good addition as well.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is priced between Rs 4.95 lakh and Rs 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom). And we expect the upcoming Tata Punch to start in very close proximity of Rs 5 lakh. The Hyundai Casper, when launched, will join the two at a very similar price point.
