Genesis, Hyundai's premium, luxury brand, has revealed the GMR-001 hypercar for its move to the top class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The hypercar will&nbsp;race against the&nbsp;Alpine A424, Porsche 963, BMW M Hybrid V-8, and the Lamborghini SC63 in the&nbsp;LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h)&nbsp;category from&nbsp;2026. It will enter the&nbsp;IMSA SportsCar Championship in North America the following year.&nbsp;

Built to LMDh rules, the Genesis&nbsp;GMR-001 features a carbon chassis supplied by Oreca, one of four selected chassis manufacturers. The other three are&nbsp;Ligier, Dallara, and&nbsp;Multimatic. Though the powertrain details are under wraps, Genesis will equip the hypercar with a hybrid powertrain that is reported to incorporate a twin-turbo V8 based on&nbsp;the company's WRC motor. The existing LMDh rules enforce the usage of&nbsp;common hybrid components&nbsp;–&nbsp;a motor from Bosch,&nbsp;a battery from Williams Advanced Engineering,&nbsp;and a transmission from&nbsp;X-Trac. The Genesis LMDh contender will get rear-wheel drive tech and churn out a maximum output of 688bhp. It should weigh at least 1,030kg.&nbsp;

As a prelude to the&nbsp;GMR-001's debut in 2026,&nbsp;Genesis, in partnership with&nbsp;the French IDEC Sport team, will send out&nbsp;the LMP2 ORECA-Gibson 07 for&nbsp;the 2025 European Le Mans Series. The in-house team named&nbsp;Genesis Magma Racing (GMR) – the newly formed racing arm of Genesis –&nbsp;will&nbsp;run the hypercar.&nbsp;Speaking of, the GMR-001 has aero-optimised bodywork with centrally mounted wings. Sleek, horizontal lights can be found wrapped around the front and rear. The latter has&nbsp;an&nbsp;active spoiler for&nbsp;balancing drag reduction.&nbsp;The side profile&nbsp;features a sweeping parabolic line similar to other Genesis cars, enhancing airflow toward the rear diffuser and&nbsp;improving downforce.&nbsp;

Aside from the big reveal, Genesis has announced the driver lineup that will be at the wheel&nbsp;–&nbsp;Andre&nbsp;Lotterer and&nbsp;Luis Felipe 'Pipo' Derani. The former is a three-time Le Mans winner, while the latter is a four-time Sebring 12 Hours winner who also raced at the&nbsp;IMSA GTP championship in 2023. The duo&nbsp;will take on the&nbsp;technical development duties for the hypercar and conduct simulator sessions to prepare for the debut LMDh season in 2026.&nbsp;

After a 26-year hiatus, Mercedes-Benz is set to return to the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German automaker will partner with the Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, to compete in the LMGT3 class of the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Mercedes' last attempt at Le Mans, in 1999, was marred by the infamous high-speed crash of the CLR LM-GTP. However, the brand's enduring passion for endurance racing has led to this comeback.

Iron Lynx, previously associated with Lamborghini, will field two Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars in the LMGT3 category. Matteo Cressoni and Claudio Schiavoni have been confirmed as the first drivers for the team.

To meet the stringent requirements of the LMGT3 class, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will undergo significant technical modifications, including the integration of torque-sensing drive shafts. Extensive wind tunnel testing is also underway to optimize the car's aerodynamic performance.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans podium remained just out of reach for Porsche Penske. Le Mans: Ferrari Beats Toyota, Porsche to Win 24 Hours Race for a Second Consecutive Year

Ferrari's Nicklas Nielsen claimed victory at the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, piloting the #50 Ferrari 499P hypercar alongside Antonio Fuoco of Italy and Spain's Miguel Molina. Together, they completed over 311 laps to secure the chequered flag.

Mission H24 took the wraps off their latest hydrogen-powered racing prototype, the H24EVO, at Circuit de La Sarthe's Hydrogen Village. This third iteration marks a significant advancement, featuring a new monocoque from German builder ADESS. The H24EVO is powered by a robust 300kW Symbio multi-stack fuel cell, enhancing its performance. Safety is prioritized with two 7.8kg hydrogen tanks strategically placed between the driver and the powertrain. Aiming for 30-minute stints and quick two-minute refuelling stops, the prototype aspires to match the speed of the fastest GT3 cars. Despite not getting FIA homologation, the H24EVO shows hydrogen racing is serious, with an anticipated race debut in 2026.

President of H24Project and co-president of MissionH24 Jean-Michel Bouresche said: 'The objective we have set for ourselves is for the H24EVO to be the first FIA-homologated electric-hydrogen prototype and for it to present a level of performance equivalent to the best GT3s. To do this, we must integrate the latest technologies to have the necessary power. I would like to take this opportunity to salute Symbio’s very strong involvement in the H24EVO program.'

This project by MissionH24 is all about promoting hydrogen as a clean racing fuel and paving the way for its future use in sports car racing.
