Lexus has launched the ES Crafted Collection in India, adding to the excitement of the approaching festive season. The special edition costs Rs 64.64 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 1.34 lakh more than the Lexus ES 300h Exquisite, on which it is based. The Lexus ES model made its entry&nbsp;in India in 2017 and since then has been an important product in the lineup. The Lexus ES 300h, the first 'Made in India' product by the luxury brand was introduced in 2020. Aside from this new edition, Lexus provides a range of financial benefits, including an upgrade scheme with a 7-year finance option, a 6.99% ROI scheme, and a 60% assured buyback programme, to help prospective purchasers relish the festive season a bit more.

<h2>Lexus ES Crafted Collection: Styling and Feature&nbsp;Updates</h2>

Scuff Plate Illumination, Welcome Logo, Rear Lamp Chrome Garnish, Headrest Pillow, and Trunk Lid Spoiler, are among the distinctive features and luxurious updates found in the Crafted Collection. According to the brand, the Lexus special edition combines the personalisation and luxury lifestyle needs of its clients. A leather collection is available for the model, which includes a backpack, a tan laptop bag, a laptop sleeve, an overnight duffel bag, and a multi-box watch case. Lexus states that the offered leather items are well-curated to fulfill customers' daily travel needs.

<h2>Lexus ES Crafted Collection: Engine</h2>

The Lexus ES Crafted Collection continues to draw&nbsp;power from a 2.5-litre petrol engine linked to an electric motor. This setup produces a power output of 214bhp. An electronic continuous variable transmission (E-CVT) is included.&nbsp;

<h2>Lexus LC 500h Limited-Edition Sports Coupe Launched in India</h2>

The special edition of Lexus' sports coupe, the LC 500h, was recently introduced in our market, priced at Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom). It features a one-of-a-kind 'Hakugin' iridescent shade with a slight satin finish, which contrasts with black portions on the front grille and rear diffuser part. Front bumper canards and a carbon-fibre rear wing for increased aerodynamics are additional exterior modifications.&nbsp;

The limited-version Lexus LC 500h has a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine and a single electric motor-generators hybrid system. The V6 engine independently produces 296bhp, while the electric motor delivers 178bhp. However, when combined, they yield a maximum power output of 354bhp. A 10-speed hybrid automatic transmission is offered, with the hybrid system consisting of a 4-speed automatic and a CVT unit.&nbsp;

The updated Lexus ES 300h has been launched in India with prices starting at ₹59.71 lakh for the Exquisite variant and&nbsp;₹65.81 lakh&nbsp;for the ES 300h Luxury variant. All the figures are ex-showroom. The&nbsp;made-in-India&nbsp;luxury sedan has undergone a few&nbsp;exterior updates as well as some interior tweaks. Powertrain

The updated ES 300h retains its petrol-electric hybrid powertrain and does not feature any mechanical changes. The system combines a 2.5-litre gasoline engine with an 88kW permanent magnet electric motor for a combined output of 218bhp.&nbsp;With a top speed of 180km/h, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 8.9 seconds. The engine continues to come paired with a a CVT gearbox and it transmits the&nbsp;power to the front wheels.

Interior

Subtle modifications&nbsp;have been made to the interior of the cabin, including more storage spaces and improved accessibility near the centre console.&nbsp;The ES also comes with&nbsp;a new voice recognition system and a "profile function" that lets users customise multimedia settings.&nbsp;Additionally, it includes wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility while the wired version of Android Auto is still available.

Exterior

Though the sedan retains the same overall style and design as the outgoing model, there is a slight exterior upgrade for the 2022 ES 300h-a new Lexus emblem. Besides this, it is now possible to open and close the boot electrically.

Prices

The ES 300h is available in two trim levels: Exquisite and Luxury. It is currently priced at ₹59.71 lakh for the former and&nbsp;₹65.81 lakh for the latter. All the figures are ex-showroom.

Lexus has launched an upgraded ES 300h model in India. The pricing for the new Exquisite version starts at Rs 59.71 lakh, whereas the ES 300h Luxury variant has a price tag of Rs 65.81 lakh. Both figures are ex-showroom.

It's an important day for Lexus India, as the brand has announced a major milestone and a slew of launches. Alongside the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/lexus-lc-500h-launched-at-rs-196-crore-107213/">newly-launched LC 500h performance Coupé</a>, Lexus India has also announced the launch of two&nbsp;new entry-level variants for the ES 300h and NX 300h crossover. Dubbed 'Exquisite', the new ES 300h Exquisite is priced at&nbsp;₹51.9 lakh, and&nbsp;the NX 300h Exquisite carries an ex-showroom price tag of&nbsp;₹54.9 lakh. Moreover, both models are now BS-VI compliant as well.

When sold as a CBU, the ES 300h was only available in one variant (Luxury) that was priced at&nbsp;₹59.95&nbsp;lakh&nbsp; (ex-showroom). Now, thanks&nbsp;to the new entry-level variant, the ES 300h range benefits from a price cut of about&nbsp;₹8 lakh. Likewise, expect the prices for the NX 300h to see a similar&nbsp;reduction, as it'll be the next model to undergo local assembly. But for now, the BS-VI transition has pushed up the price of the NX 300h Luxury variant by about&nbsp;₹1.7&nbsp;lakh (earlier priced&nbsp;at&nbsp;₹58.2&nbsp;lakh).

Both the ES 300h &amp; NX 300h are powered by Lexus' 2.5-litre four-cylinder&nbsp;Atkinson cycle petrol motor and a hybrid system. In the ES 300h, the total power output &amp; torque figures are pegged at 215bhp &amp; 220Nm (same as the BS-IV version's) and in the larger NX 300h, the same setup puts out an unchanged 194bhp and 210Nm of torque. In both cars, power is transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed eCVT gearbox.

A look at the sales of Lexus in India is enough to make it clear that the ES sedan is, by far, their most popular product. And now, with the launch of the seventh-generation ES in India, a lot is riding on this new car. In terms of appearance, the ES is quite promising. Its radical new design is certainly alluring. The large spindle grille can be a tad polarising, but it stands out – allowing the ES a discernible road presence.&nbsp;

The interior is a fine place to be. Finished in absolutely top-quality materials – bettered perhaps only by its bigger brother, the LS – the ES has loads of room in both the front and the rear. Needless to say, there’s ample leg room for rear seat passengers. The seats also deserve a special mention, for their fantastic finish, amazing comfort and ergonomics.&nbsp; 
In terms of efficiency, the ES does well with its latest-generation petrol Hybrid – the only engine on offer.&nbsp;

Interestingly, the ES is the most environmentally friendly car in its segment. So, it’s a great choice if you’re concerned about your carbon footprint. But, if you’re looking for a large sedan with a diesel engine, the ES is not for you.

Now, driving the ES is not only comfortable but also quite pleasurable, for it offers a fantastic ride, excellent isolation from the outside world and a beautiful sounding Mark Levinson audio system. Initially, the additional torque from the electric motor makes things easy, however, if pushed harder, the CVT transmission does start to feel a bit strained. And, let’s be honest, at the end of the day, the ES is meant for customers who are almost always – if not always – chauffeured around.&nbsp;

Therefore, if you’re looking for a comfortable, unique, environmentally friendly, beautifully built luxury sedan, the ES stands out for all the right reasons. The only things it loses out on is the lack of a diesel engine, which may not be a turnoff for much longer given the current backlash against diesel, and the fact that Lexus is still finding its feet in India and expanding its dealer network. But, without a doubt, the ES has one of the finest cabins you can spend time in.

A look at the sales of Lexus in India is enough to make it clear that the ES sedan

With the seventh-generation ES, Lexus can truly rival the Germans in the luxury car space. But, with a brand that’s still a work in progress in India, is it enough to match up to the bigwigs?

Disruption is the word that most aptly describes Lexus’ entry into the automotive world, about three decades ago. With the might of parent company Toyota behind it, the brand quickly set about competing in a segment, which, at that point of time globally, was dominated by the German brands. The luxury segment was a tough nut to crack, mainly because it’s a punishing task to convince the segment buyers to opt for an expensive product from a brand that they’re not completely familiar with. But the true disruption here happened on two fronts with Lexus. Firstly, their cars – built with meticulous attention to detail – offered a combination of refinement, reliability and quality levels that truly shocked the luxury vehicle industry. And, secondly, their focus on improving the customer experience of buying and maintaining a car truly surpassed the industry standards of those days.

Stand out 
With the seventh-generation ES, Lexus is attempting to do something similar in the Indian market – especially since it competes in one of the largest segments in the luxury car space, that of the mid-size luxury sedans. What helps the ES is its striking design language. The highlight, as with all Lexus products today, is the oversized spindle grille that dominates the design. However, in this form, it only features a chrome outline, while the innards of the grille are a dark grey – which I think is quite well executed. The front and rear ends also feature big head and tail light units, while the lighting at both ends is powered by LED lamps. The sides also feature deep shoulder lines, which make quite a bold statement and were quite an engineering feat to achieve for production.

Attention to detail 
As Lexus officials communicated to us at the drive, the basic premise of the latest ES – now based on the brand-new GA-K platform – were two things. One was to design the car to give it a wide and long look. Second was to focus on reducing fatigue of the car’s occupants and making driving the ES as easy as possible. If there are two traits that explain this approach in detail, it’s how the driving position and the view out from inside the car can affect and, in fact, encourage fatigue. To remedy that, the engineers worked on pushing the A-pillars of the ES as far back as possible to enhance visibility and, at the same time, lowering the seating position for enhanced comfort. The second, and even more staggering, feat was the work done on making the car as quiet as possible. In fact, Lexus engineers went to the extent of identifying just how much isolation from the outside world is perfect for the occupants of a car. They discovered that total silence inside the cabin can also be very disturbing, so they dialled some noise back into the cabin to give it a more natural feel. That means that the ES has active noise cancellation that dials out unwanted noise and dials in a little bit of (wanted) noise to make the cabin environment feel more natural. The engineers also increased the amount of damping in the car by about 25% and engineered a new kind of alloy wheel – which helps further in reducing road noise. Like I said, attention to detail has been one of the founding mantras of Lexus as a brand, and the ES epitomises this obsession by being as close to perfection as possible.

Experiencing luxury 
After a long presentation, we finally headed out onto the road, and the first thing that struck us in the ES was isolation from the outside – which, to put it simply, is really astonishing. It makes the cabin a much more relaxing place to be in, which is further accentuated by the 1,800W Mark Levinson audio that comes as standard. The audio system is simply stunning! This, combined with the low NVH levels of the 2.5-litre Hybrid engine and E-CVT gearbox, means that most competitors of the ES will struggle to match the interior refinement of the Lexus. The seats are another highlight, which, in my opinion, are some of the most comfortable perches I’ve sat on in recent times. The front seats come with heating and ventilation as standard, while the rears are only heated. The dashboard and instrument layouts are also quite impressive, and the big 12.3-inch central display, as well as the 7-inch display in front of the driver, work quite well. Another highlight is the new head-up display.

Behind the wheel 
The first impression of the ES on the road is dominated by its refinement. Right from its isolation to its ride comfort, the ES is a very impressive product. The 2.5-litre Hybrid engine might not be a power monster, at just 215bhp, but it works quite well and the extra torque of the Hybrid system means that progress is swift – and yet very refined. When pushed, the CVT system does have that annoying rubber band effect, which I’m not very fond of. But, given that the car is not really aimed at a driving enthusiast, but somebody who values the total experience of what a luxury product delivers, the ES does its job very well. It has fantastic comfort levels, with class-leading refinement and a very competitive price tag. What also works in its favour are its green credentials, as it happens to be the only Hybrid in its segment – which means its carbon footprint and emissions levels are much lower than traditional petrol and diesel-powered cars.

However, it’s not perfect. While there’s not much to fault with the product per se, the fact remains that the luxury segment in India is still diesel dominated, and with Lexus globally moving away from diesel engines, that is not an option on the ES. This means that quite a number of potential customers will fail to experience the fantastic experience that the ES offers. Secondly, while Lexus India has built absolutely amazing customer experience centres, their footprint in India is still very limited, and that too will be an issue for many customers – especially those in smaller cities. But, none of this takes away from the fact that the ES delivers an unmatched experience, in terms of what a luxury vehicle should feel like. And, of course, it comes fully loaded with all the bells-and-whistles – including 10 airbags. Therefore, if you’re in in the market to buy a mid-sized luxury sedan, the ES definitely deserves a look.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
