Blancpain’s latest issue of its fables Fifty Fathoms diving watch gets its name from the 10th anniversary of the ‘Tech Gombessa’ project which the brand sponsors. Dedicated to the study of the behaviour of the great hammerhead shark, Sphyrna mokarran, in French Polynesia, the watch is inspired by diving and in fact, this advanced diver’s watch makes it possible for the first time to measure up to three-hour-long tech dives or exits from a saturation system. Of course, the Gombessa is no small watch and measures a chunky 47mm and is crafted out of Grade 23 titanium, the purest type of titanium available.&nbsp;

Longines as a brand has an enviable back catalogue of making professional watches for many decades, boasting as one of the most prolific make of chronographs over the years. The recreation of the Pilot Majetek, however, is slightly different, as it stems from the brand’s aviation history. Made for the personnel of the Czech Air Force in 1935, the Pilot Majetek is a reissue faithful to the original, even though, it has been upsized to a rather chunky 43mm. Powered by one of the finest movements that Longines offers – the L893.6 – the Majetek is COSC certified and has a power reserve of 72 hours, while it is available with a choice of four strap options with two leather and two NATO strap choices.

Tissot’s latest chronograph goes full retro with look and feel from a few decades ago. Even the colour choices – full black with all-gold motifs and white with red detailing – really do give it a lovely vintage appeal. Of course, what’s not vintage is the 42mm size of the dial, which makes it very modern, and also rather legible. Purely on its design appeal alone, I think you would struggle to find a better-looking watch at this price point.
