The prices of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic have been increased by the homegrown automaker in India. Mahindra has also updated the engine of the model to meet the new RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.

Perhaps the most important update&nbsp;on the Scorpio Classic is that it now gets multi-link rear suspension, Multi Tuning Valve - Concentric Land (MTV-CL) shock absorbers on both ends, and a double-wishbone front suspension. All this should make the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/scorpio-classic/" target="_blank">Scorpio Classic</a> a lot nicer to drive, giving it reduced body roll and better ride quality.

Powering the Scorpio Classic is the second-gen mHawk diesel engine, which it shares with the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/scorpio-n/" target="_blank">Scorpio-N</a>. The engine&nbsp;produces 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. Aside from being more refined and lighter than the engine in the previous Scorpio, it is also said to be 14% more fuel efficient and comes mated to a new six-speed manual transmission with Cable Shift technology for better shifts. There’s no automatic on offer. The Scorpio Classic is RWD-only.

The Scorpio Classic also gets a few cosmetic updates, including the tower taillamps, which first appeared on the Scorpio in 2006, the new Twin Peaks logo, and new diamond cut alloys (on the S11 variant). Inside, there’s a new 9-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and screen mirroring, although it misses out on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The S11 variant also gets cruise control and automatic climate control.

The Scorpio Classic gets three seating layouts. The first is a seven-seat layout with a bench middle row and seating for two via side-facing jump seats at the back (2+3+2). The other seven-seat layout (S11 only) has captain seats in the middle row and a bench third row (2+2+3). There is also a nine-seat&nbsp;variant with a bench middle row and seating for four at the rear via side-facing jump seats (2+3+4).

The base Scorpio Classic costs Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec S11 costs Rs 15.49 lakh. The former gets none of the feature upgrades, but it does get the new mechanical components, along with some cosmetic updates. It keeps the design of the previous gen Scorpio, but brings with it a new engine and major suspension updates.

Let’s talk about the mechanical changes first. Under the hood of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/scorpio-classic/" target="_blank">Scorpio Classic</a> is the second-gen mHawk engine, which makes 130bhp and 300Nm. The engine is much lighter than the one in the old Scorpio, and it should also be more fuel efficient and refined. The low-end grunt of its predecessor hasn’t been forgotten, with 77% of peak torque available from just 1,000rpm on the Scorpio Classic. The engine is mated to a new six-speed manual transmission with Cable Shift for a better shift action – there’s no automatic on the Classic.

The other big update, perhaps even more important than the powertrain, is the fact that the Scorpio Classic now gets multi-link suspension with coil springs at the rear! At the front are double wishbones and on both ends, the shock absorbers get Multi Tuning Valve - Concentric Land (MTV-CL).&nbsp;

The updates to the suspension should make the Scorpio Classic a lot more comfortable on the road, with reduced body roll and the ability to deal with imperfections with greater composure. We’ll only know for sure once we drive it though.

While there’s no 4WD on the Scorpio Classic, it should be fairly handy off-road thanks to its RWD setup and body-on-frame construction. Mahindra claims a 27-degree approach angle, 23.9-degree break over angle and&nbsp; 25.4-degree departure angle. The Scorpio Classic also has a respectable 500mm water wading capability.

In terms of cosmetics, the Scorpio Classic gets slightly refreshed headlights, LED DRLs on the lower half of the bumper and a new grille with the Mahindra Twin Peaks logo. At the rear the iconic tower taillamps, first seen on the 2006 Scorpio, make a comeback.

Inside, the Scorpio Classic gets a new Android-based 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It doesn’t have CarPlay or Android Auto, but does get BlueTooth connectivity and the ability to mirror your smartphone’s screen as well. The Scorpio Classic also gets automatic climate control, cruise control and more.

Mahindra has simplified the Scorpio Classic lineup, with only two variants being offered now. The base S variant gets all the mechanical changes, but misses out on most of the frills. You do get two airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors and an LED tail lamp though. The other variant is the top-spec S11, which gets all the goodies mentioned above.&nbsp;

The Scorpio Classic will be available in a variety of seating configurations. There’s a 9 seater variant with a bench middle row and seating for four via jump seats in the third row (2+3+4), there’s also a 7 seater variant with a similar middle bench setup, but with smaller jump seats to accommodate two in the last row (2+3+2). Finally, the S11 gets the option of captain seats in the middle row and a bench at the rear for a (2+2+3) 7-seat setup.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We don’t know the prices yet, but you can expect the Scorpio Classic to be in the range of Rs 10.5-17 lakh, which should make it one of the more capable offerings at that price point.

Mahindra unveils Scorpio Classic; Here's All You Need to Know

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic brings a new engine, major updates to the suspension and more features, to the design and styling of the last-gen Scorpio. Mahindra will offer the Scorpio Classic in two variants, with 7 -and 9-seater configurations and there's no 4WD on offer.

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/scorpio-n/" target="_blank">Scorpio-N</a> was one of the most anticipated launches recently. One good news that came along was the fact that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/" target="_blank">Mahindra</a> will sell the Scorpio-N alongside the old which will now be updated with a new Classic badge. Ahead of its official debut here are a few bits of information that we know.&nbsp;

For starters, the car will get two variants upon launch with the S being the entry-level variant. The car will also get a top-rung S11 variant which will come loaded with additional features. The car will not only be available for fleet and security services but also to private buyers.&nbsp;

A <a href="https://www.autocarindia.com/car-news/2022-mahindra-scorpio-classic-to-be-sold-in-two-variants-424930">report </a>stating close to the matter also suggested that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/scorpio-classic/" target="_blank">Scorpio Classic</a> will be available in 7- or a 9-seat layout on both variants. The car will be powered by a 140bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine only with an option of a 6-speed manual gearbox. Like before, it will not get 4WD or an automatic transmission option.&nbsp;

The Scorpio Classic will, however, not be just a rebadging, considering that it will bring about significant tweaks in terms of cosmetics as well. It gets a new front bumper and the grille is all new and gets a similar look as the Scorpio N with a similar grille design replete with Mahindra’s new Twin Peaks logo that made its debut on the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/xuv700/" target="_blank">XUV700</a>.

Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio Classic to get two variants, only diesel option

After the Scorpio-N, Mahindra is all set to debut the reworked Scorpio Classic in India. The car will be placed a rung lower to the Scorpio-N and will come with a sole diesel engine.
