autoX Awards 2024:&nbsp;That the Italians know style is certainly not a revelation. That <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maserati/">Maserati</a> embodies this isn’t surprising either. That this is a stylish compact SUV – inside and out – is very clear. After all, that Trident on the bonnet has adorned some of the most stylish machines ever conceived.

This one, though, finds itself in a very competitive segment. And, with a price tag of ₹1.3 crores, it’s certainly not doing itself any favours. Nor is the fact that it’s come to the party with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor. Yes, it produces 325 horsepower, and, yes, it actually drives exceptionally well, but there’s simply no getting away from the fact that you’re paying almost a crore-and-a-half on-road for a car with a four-cylinder motor.

Forget about that for a second though, and you can revel in what is a very athletic SUV – one that’s spritely and fits the bill perfectly if you want a uniquely stylish SUV that has both kerb appeal as well as driving pleasure. Think of it that way and it actually makes a lot of sense. Especially when you consider that the cabin is covered in swathes of Italian leather, and the tech – thanks to the many touchscreens – is actually pretty good too.

Start to push it on track and it doesn’t go to pieces. On the contrary, the engine has some grunt, the chassis is athletic, and the adaptive dampers mean that it’s got not just plenty of roadholding but a lot of versatility too in terms of ride comfort. The biggest problem on track was that the speed warning, which comes up at both 80km/h and 120km/h, takes over the entire tach counter. So, if you’re attempting to monitor revs to change gears manually via the perfectly placed and well sized shift paddles, you’ll have to think again.

Other than that, this is a car that looks and feels properly exotic. Shame about the price though. Well, unless you’re willing to pay the price for exclusivity. If that’s the case, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s that time of the year once again – our favourite time! We head to the track to find out the winners of autoX Awards by pushing the best cars launched in India in 2024 and crown them the highly coveted ‘Best of 2024’.

<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maserati/">Maserati</a> expands its SUV lineup in India with the launch of the Grecale. Positioned as a more compact alternative to the Levante, the Grecale is available in three trims: GT, Modena, and Trofeo. With a starting price of Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom), it directly competes with the Porsche Macan. While sharing a familial resemblance with the Levante, the Grecale boasts distinct styling cues, including a unique grille, headlights, and a redesigned Maserati trident logo on the C-pillar. The rear profile, though similar to the Levante, is scaled down for a sportier, more compact look, accentuated by slim taillights connected by a chrome strip. All Grecale variants come equipped with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

The Grecale's interior boasts a modern, driver-focused cockpit centred around three digital displays. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides essential driving information and can also display navigation maps, while a heads-up display projects key data directly into the driver's line of sight. The central 12.3-inch touchscreen controls the infotainment system, while an 8.8-inch lower display manages climate settings. Adding a unique touch, a circular display in the centre console can be configured to show a clock, compass, G-meter, or chronometer.

<h2>Maserati Grecale: Powertrain</h2>

The Grecale GT serves as the entry point to the range, powered by a mild-hybrid 300bhp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240km/h. A mechanical differential is fitted as standard.

Stepping up to the Modena, the same 2.0-litre engine produces 330bhp, shaving 0.3 seconds off the 0-100km/h time. While top speed remains unchanged, the Modena adds a limited-slip differential and adaptive suspension for enhanced handling.

At the pinnacle of the Grecale lineup is the Trofeo, equipped with a potent 530bhp, 3.0-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine. This powertrain catapults the SUV from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 285km/h. An electronically controlled limited-slip differential is standard on this flagship model.

Maserati Grecale SUV Launched in India; Price Starts at Rs 1.31 Crore

Maserati has launched the Grecale SUV in India, marking its entry-level offering in the SUV segment. The Grecale will be available in three variants: GT, Modena, and Trofeo.

Having unveiled the Grecale SUV in March 2022,&nbsp;Maserati&nbsp;is set to carry out the market launch of its entry-level SUV in early 2024 in India. While the pricing details are yet to be revealed, we expect it to range between Rs&nbsp;90 lakh and&nbsp;Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom). At this price, it&nbsp;will rival other&nbsp;SUVs such as the Porsche Macan (Rs 88 lakh to Rs 1.53 crore) and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe (Rs 77 lakh to Rs 1.09 crore). In Maserati's lineup, this entry-level Grecale will slot under&nbsp;the Levante and will be offered in 3 variants&nbsp;—&nbsp;GT, Modena, and Trofeo, which seems quite sporty. Moreover, the brand is also&nbsp;readying for an all-electric future with the&nbsp;GranTurismo Folgore which will go on sale&nbsp;along with&nbsp;the&nbsp;Grecale Folgore.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;Grecale Folgore is the all-electric version of the Grecale.&nbsp;It will come equipped with a dual-motor setup with 545bhp/850Nm and a top speed of 220km/h. A 105kWh battery pack&nbsp;will be offered with this electric vehicle, claiming a range of 500 kilometres (WLTP) on a single charge.&nbsp;

<h2>Maserati Grecale: Styling&nbsp;</h2>

In terms of styling, the ICE-powered Maserati Grecale takes inspiration from the Levante. The front gets a bold grille with the&nbsp;Maserati Trident in the centre and&nbsp;large air vents on either side.&nbsp;The side profile reveals a sloping roofline that flows into the rear where there are new boomerang-shaped LED taillights joined by a chrome strip and a new exhaust.&nbsp;

There is a spacious, well-appointed interior with a host of screens&nbsp;—&nbsp;two 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and instrumentation as well as&nbsp;an 8.8-inch display below the infotainment screen. Other prominent bits include a digital clock, neatly integrated AC vents in the dashboard,&nbsp;and&nbsp;steering wheel-mounted physical controls. On offer are also different interior colour schemes.&nbsp;

<h2>Maserati Grecale: Powertrain</h2>

Under the bonnet, the Maserati Grecale will get three engine options. The top-spec Trofeo model will come&nbsp;powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 (borrowed from the MC20 supercar), which cranks out 523bhp and&nbsp;620Nm of peak torque. The Trofeo reaches&nbsp;100km/h from a standstill in&nbsp;3.8 seconds, while the&nbsp;top speed is rated at&nbsp;285km/h (claimed).

Maserati will also offer a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech on the GT and Modena variants. In the GT variant, this engine produces 296bhp and 450Nm of torque and propels this version to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds. The mid-spec Modena, on the other hand, gets the same engine that is tuned to deliver 325bhp and 450Nm, helping this variant perform the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds.&nbsp;

Transmission duties on all three variants are performed by an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels. A limited-slip differential is offered as standard with the Modena and Trofeo, while it can be had as an optional extra with the GT variant.&nbsp;

Maserati is at a very crucial point in its history. On one hand, the brand is readying for an all-electric future with the Forglore program. On the other hand, the all-new MC20 is bringing the iconic nameplate back to the supercar fight. But while that is well and good, the model that will help fund most of this is the Grecale. It’s an SUV that slots under the Levante in the lineup and will go up against the likes of the Porsche Macan.

Maserati Grecale: Styling&nbsp;

Maserati hasn’t just shrunk down the Levante’s design into the Grecale, but rather used it as an inspiration. The front gets a bold grille with the Maserati Trident sitting proudly in the middle and large air vents on either side. The side profile reveals a sloping roofline that flows into the rear where there are LED taillights joined by a chrome strip.&nbsp;

Overall, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-grecale-suv-to-be-launched-in-india-in-early-2024-heres-what-you-need-to-know-115327/">Grecale</a> looks very athletic and quite sporty in the Trofeo trim (yellow). There are two other variants on offer – GT and Modena. The GT (brown) is the entry-level variant while the Modena (white) sits in the middle.

Maserati Grecale: Interior

Inside, there’s a well-appointed interior with a plethora of screens. There’s two 12.3-inch displays making up the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen and there is an 8.8-inch display below the infotainment screen as well.

Maserati Grecale: Powertrains

The top-spec Trofeo model is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 (borrowed from the MC20) which produces 523bhp, 620Nm and is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels. 100kmph comes up in a brisk 3.8 seconds from a standstill and the Trofeo can go on to a top speed of 285kmph.

Maserati will also offer a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech on the GT and Modena variants and there will also be an all-electric Forglore model added to the lineup in 2023.

 
Maserati Grecale: Price and Rivals

While not confirmed for India, the Grecale could prove to be a great addition to Maserati’s lineup in a country that loves its SUVs. If it does make it here, we expect it to be priced between Rs 90 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore. At that price, it will rival sporty SUVs like the Porsche Macan and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe.&nbsp;

Maserati Grecale Unveiled: Check Out the Designs and Features

The Maserati Grecale could prove to be one of the most important models in the brand's history and to make it successful, Maserati has given it suave styling, cutting-edge tech and a powerful twin-turbo V6 under the hood in the Trofeo variant.

The global debut of the Grecale is likely to be held in the month of March; however, the Italian brand is currently winter testing the upcoming SUV and readying it for Maserati’s global markets.

A prototype of the Maserati Grecale, which is the Italian carmaker’s upcoming compact SUV, has been seen in the cold of the Swedish glades. Maserati is currently winter testing the new SUV in Lapland at -30 degrees celsius. The maker says that this has helped them fine-tune the traction control system and further improve the understeery and over-steery nature of the SUV; especially with varying wheel sizes and driving modes.

The Grecale will share its platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and most likely, the powertrain will be shared as well.

So far there are no technical details available of the Grecale. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-grecale-suv-to-be-revealed-on-november-16-110099/">The SUV was to be unveiled last November 2021</a>, but Maserati pushed the global debut of the new Grecale to the first half of 2022. Let’s just say that this delay has given Maserati enough time to thoroughly ready the Grecale for the global markets.

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-grecale-suv-to-be-launched-in-india-in-early-2024-heres-what-you-need-to-know-115327/">Maserati Grecale</a> will eventually make its way to the Indian market – sometime by 2023. The new Italian compact-SUV will be positioned in the segment where we have the Jaguar F-Type, Range Rover Velar, &nbsp;BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Porsche Macan.

For this year, <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-levante-hybrid-and-mc20-launch-timeline-confirmed-110629/">Maserati has plans to launch the Levante Hybrid SUV and the MC20 sportscar</a>. The firm has already started accepting bookings for the Levante Hybrid.

Maserati Grecale teased ahead of global debut

The global debut of the Grecale is likely to be held in the month of March; however, the Italian brand is currently winter testing the upcoming SUV and readying it for Maserati’s global markets.

The brand’s second SUV, the Maserati Grecale, is all set to make its global debut. Maserati confirms that the Grecale will be a sub-Levante SUV, which will be positioned lower in Maserati’s SUV hierarchy.

Maserati’s second SUV, the Grecale, will make its first appearance on November 16 in Milan, Italy. The Grecale will be positioned below Maserati’s flagship SUV, the Levante.

For now, Maserati has only teased the Grecale’s exterior, and there is no official word (or picture) on&nbsp;its interior and mechanical specifications.

While the information regarding the SUV is quite limited at the moment, we know that the Grecale will be underpinned by the same FCA’s Giorgio platform that is the base of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

The Maserati Grecale is expected to debut with three engine options. The lower variants are expected to have a 2.0-litre inline-four cylinder engine, while the mid-variants are likely to feature a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which is also offered with the Stelvio.

The top-spec <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-grecale-suv-to-be-launched-in-india-in-early-2024-heres-what-you-need-to-know-115327/">Maserati Grecale</a> could possibly get the 3.0-litre turbocharged 'Nettuno' V6. This powerplant is currently on offer with the Maserati MC20 and puts out 621bhp at 7,500rpm and 730Nm at 3,000rpm. If offered with the Maserati Grecale, the Nettuno V6 will be slightly detuned.

Moving to the exterior, the teaser images that were released in the first half of 2021 confirmed that the Grecale will largely exhibit SUV-coupe like styling. We suspect the design bits will follow the likes of the Grecale’s elder sibling, the Levante, but in a more modern up-to-date manner. All these assumptions will be put to rest once the 2022 Maserati Grecale SUV breaks cover a few weeks from now.

Last year Maserati teased its new SUV that will sit below the Levante in the international market. The new&nbsp;SUV has been dubbed the ‘Grecale’ after the easterly wind that blows in the western Mediterranean Sea and southern France.

This time around, Maserati has given out clearer pictures of the new SUV, while keeping the exterior styling, interiors, and mechanical details under wraps.

The SUV exhibits the silhouette of its elder sibling, the Levante, and we won’t be surprised if the styling will be based on the same design language seen on the Levante as well. The pictures spill that the Grecale will have a long bonnet followed by a sloping roofline, most likely depicting an SUV-coupe-like styling.

So far, we know that the Grecale will be based on the FCA’s Giorgio platform that also underpins the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The range-topping Grecale will be equipped with a petrol-powered V6 – most likely a version of MC20’s Nettuno 3.0-litre engine. There could also be a 2.0-litre petrol engine on offer and some variants will come with a 48-volt plug-in hybrid drivetrain. An all-electric Maserati Grecale will make a global appearance sometime next year.

Maserati confirms that the Grecale will go on sale later this year in the international markets and there is a very slim chance of the new ‘sub-Levante’ SUV to be launched in India, however, not before 2022.

Maserati's all-new product to rival the Porsche Macan will share its underpinnings with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio but will be powered by a Maserati-developed engine.

Maserati recently unveiled the much-awaited <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/the-maserati-mc20-will-do-0-100kmh-in-29-seconds-108388/">MC20 supercar</a> at a grand event called the 'MMXX: Time to be Audacious'. This event is seen as the Italian marque's entry into a 'New Era' that 'marks&nbsp;the beginning of a new phase in the brand’s history'. While the MC20 was, of course, the key attraction and highlight of the event, Maserati also took the opportunity to announce that its new 'sub-Levante' SUV will be called the Grecale. In essence, the Grecale will be an SUV smaller than the Levante, but it will carve a niche for itself in the Maserati product line-up.&nbsp;The term Grecale refers to the&nbsp;'fierce north-east wind of the Mediterranean Sea'.

To understand it better, the Maserati Grecale will be to the&nbsp;Levante what the Porsche Macan is to the Cayenne&nbsp;– the Macan is smaller, more compact than the Cayenne, but it has a unique identity. Also, given the fact that the Macan has become one of Porsche's best-selling models globally, it makes sense for Maserati to go all-guns-blazing and prepare a solid rival to the Macan.

While the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maserati-grecale-suv-to-be-launched-in-india-in-early-2024-heres-what-you-need-to-know-115327/">Grecale</a> will be a new model, it won't exactly be 'new' under the skin. That's because the Grecale will be built on the same platform as the Alfa Romeo and, therefore, will share most of its underpinnings with the Alfa Romeo SUV. Both cars will even be built on the same production line at&nbsp;FCA's Cassino factory in Italy. However, the Grecale, like the MC20, will be powered by a Maserati-developed engine and not an Alfa-Romeo sourced unit.&nbsp;

At this point, Maserati has not revealed much about the Grecale's final specs. But we do know that it will not enter production&nbsp;any time before next year. If the production goes as per the timeline, expect the Grecale to debut sometime in the Spring of 2021. It will be followed by an all-electric version in 2022.

Speaking of electric, the next-generation models of the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Quattroporte, and the Levante will be available in all-electric versions as well.

Maserati has announced that its new 'sub-Levante' SUV will be called the Grecale. In essence, the Grecale will be an SUV smaller than the Levante but it will carve a niche for itself in the Maserati product line-up.
