While the launch date remains unconfirmed, this variant&nbsp;is expected to be significantly more expensive than the standard Comet EV, which starts at Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). True to its name, the model embraces a bold and fierce look with an all-black exterior, highlighted by striking red accents on the Morris Garages badging and lower bumper. The wheels are also draped in black covers, featuring a red star-shaped pattern. The rear design of this blacked-out variant remains under wraps for now. However, based on the overall theme, we expect the red and black contrast to carry through to the back. MG Comet EV Blackstorm Edition Teased Ahead of India Launch

Although the launch date is unconfirmed, MG Comet EV Blackstorm is expected to be priced higher than the standard model, which starts at Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). 

<p>Life can sometimes be slow and sometimes frantic. For me, life was a bit frantic this past month and that meant a lot of running around with not a lot of time to spare. While I prefer keeping a light right foot, these last few days did not allow me that luxury. A plus side of all this running around was that I was able to see how the Comet and its battery deal with more pressure.</p>

<p>Earlier, I had been easily getting a real-world range figure of close to 150km per charge by sticking to Eco mode almost exclusively. This time around though, I mostly found myself zipping around in the Sport or Normal modes. Even my demand for toque was more urgent, which the Comet complied with. However, this was not without a hit to the range…but not to the extent I was expecting.</p>

<p>I observed that in the worst-case scenario, I was getting close to 120km on a single charge which is roughly 30km less than what I had observed earlier. While the figure is not insignificant, I have seen some other EVs suffer a bigger loss when you let loose. Yes, if I took the Comet for a long highway ride where there are even fewer chances for regen braking to drip feed the battery, the figure could drop by another 10-15km easily. But since this compact caper is best left confined to the city, that test would be a bit unfair.</p>

<p>Going from Eco to Normal or Sport does bring about a spring in the step of the Comet. For now, I am just impressed that this little thing managed to easily run for more than 100km on a single charge while driving in the fast lane.</p>

The hatchback offers an impressive range of 250km&nbsp;to 315km, depending on the battery pack. Among the EV's stand-out&nbsp;features are a 4-speaker Harman sound system with four tweeters, automatic air conditioning, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.</p>

<h2>Tata Punch EV</h2>

The MR variant&nbsp;can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 13.5 seconds, while the LR variant achieves the same speed in&nbsp;9.5 seconds.&nbsp;</p>

Here's a comprehensive list of the top five budget-friendly electric cars in India ranging from hatchbacks to SUVs.

<p>Not long ago, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/">MG Motor India</a> launched its all-new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/windsor-ev/">Windsor EV</a> (electric vehicle) with&nbsp;a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership program, wherein the vehicle's price is exclusive of the cost of the battery.&nbsp;The program requires owners to rent the battery to pay as per their usage, which is Rs 3.5 per kilometre. Now, this&nbsp;battery rental scheme has been carried over to the company's popular Comet EV and ZS EV, making them more affordable than before.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Under the BaaS program, the <a href="http://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/comet-ev/">MG Comet EV</a> and the <a href="http://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/zs-ev/">ZS EV</a> are priced from Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 13.99 lakh, respectively. Since the battery cost is not included in their asking prices, owners will have to pay a battery rental fee of&nbsp;Rs 2.5 per kilometre alongside the Rs 4.99 lakh initial acquisition cost for the Comet EV;&nbsp;the ZS EV can now be had at its asking price plus Rs 4.5 kilometre (for the battery). Besides&nbsp;the battery rental fee, owners are&nbsp;required to pay&nbsp;a minimum monthly recharge, depending on the financier.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another highlight of the BaaS program is a 60 per cent assured buyback scheme&nbsp;for all MG&nbsp;electric vehicles. However, the option of purchasing these electric vehicles&nbsp;as a whole is still available. Without BaaS, the Comet ranges from&nbsp;Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.53 lakh, while the ZS EV falls between&nbsp;Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.44 lakh. The prices are ex-showroom.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MG Comet EV, ZS EV: Technical specifications</h2>

<p>Apart from their prices, the&nbsp;MG Comet EV and the ZS EV remain untouched.&nbsp;The Comet EV gets a rear axle-mounted electric motor that develops&nbsp;41bhp and 110Nm of peak torque. Powering this&nbsp;motor is a&nbsp;17.3kWh battery pack with an ARAI-certified range of 230km. On the other hand,&nbsp;the MG ZS EV is equipped with a larger 50.3 kWh battery pack, which yields a claimed range of 461km.&nbsp;MG has yet to reveal the full price list of both EVs&nbsp;under BaaS.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MG JULY 2024 Sales</h2>

<p>MG posted retail sales of 4,572 units&nbsp;in July 2024, which was less than the 5,012 units&nbsp;recorded in the same month, last year. This shows a&nbsp;year-on-year (YoY) decline of 8.7%.&nbsp;The automaker's electric vehicles, including&nbsp;the Comet and the ZS EV,&nbsp;accounted for more than 1,500 units,&nbsp;suggesting strong customer acceptance of new energy vehicles.</p>

<h2>Upcoming Car Launches</h2>

<p>MG is all set to introduce its third electric model for India called the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/windsor-ev/">Windsor EV</a> on September 11, 2024.&nbsp;Although most of the details regarding the vehicle are unknown,&nbsp;the car is expected to have the same specifications as the overseas-sold Donar model, the Wuling Cloud EV.&nbsp;The electric vehicle is available with two battery versions globally:&nbsp;37.9kWh and 50.6kWh. MG Gloster, Hector, Astor and More Get Discounts of up to Rs 6 Lakh in India

The MG Gloster has the highest discount at Rs 6 lakh, while the Hector and Astor have discounts of up to Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.

<p>Regular readers of our magazine (we love you all) might notice that our long-term MG Comet looks different this month. I can assure you that the EV’s paint hasn’t faded due to the recent monsoon showers. In fact, our review unit was replaced with a different one.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/">MG</a> informed us that they needed our vibrant Apple Green Comet back and they offered to replace it with another model. Much more understated in appearance, this white unit has now become a part of our fleet. But it didn’t just come with a new colour, it also brought a new issue. It is noticeably noisier than our previous car. This becomes especially apparent when you’re cruising on a smooth road with no distractions. Add to that the noticeable vibrations felt through the steering wheel and brake pedal, and you don’t quite get that serene, silent EV experience you’d expect.</p>

<p>Despite these unit-specific issues, spending more time with the Comet made me realise how practical it is, especially for someone with a use case like mine. I live far from my office and often face heavy traffic on the way. The compact dimensions allow me to squeeze through gaps that would be inaccessible with larger cars. Since I usually travel alone or with just one passenger, the cabin space is more than adequate. Even during peak city traffic hours, I can still get around 160 – 165km (Eco Mode) from a fully charged battery, which is more than sufficient.</p>
