Although Mercedes' W14 is not quite complete—there is still room for improvement in areas including top speed, DRS, and traction out of low-speed corners—the team has announced that they would bring a new, significant package to the British Grand Prix. First up is Austria's Red Bull Ring, where chief technical officer Mike Elliott anticipates a favourable track layout for the Mercedes vehicle.

Mercedes spent almost a year puzzling about how to improve their performance, but after adopting a fresh approach, they saw immediate results. Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff said that the team will bring a revised W14 to the British Grand Prix. As a result of their double podium performance in Spain and Lewis Hamilton's second-place finish in Canada, Mercedes has moved up to second in the Constructors' standings after abandoning the zero sidepod notion in Monaco.&nbsp;

Wolff has said that the next step would be a major upgrade package at Silverstone, suggesting that the improvements made in Monaco were never meant to put the team in contention with Red Bull. The current points deficit between the British driver and the Red Bull star, Max Verstappen, is 93 points.

Since introducing a significant upgrade package in Monaco last month, Mercedes has been on a roll. In Spain, Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell earned the team's first double podium result of the 2023 season.

For the fourth spot, ahead of Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz held off Lewis Hamilton. Half of the Grand Prix was quite unremarkable, even by Monaco's standards. However, the impending and subsequent rain added excitement to the Grand Prix. Despite severe graining, Verstappen was able to use the medium tyres for almost 50 laps after starting on them.&nbsp;

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished fourth and fifth for Mercedes' updated W14s, with the latter's five-second time penalty for slamming into Sergio Perez when he re-joined the track following an off-track excursion in the slippery conditions having no bearing on his placing.

Following the other Alpine of Pierre Gasly and teammate Carlos Sainz, home favourite Charles Leclerc finished sixth after receiving a three-place grid penalty for obstructing Lando Norris in qualifying.

After holding off Mercedes and Ferraris in the Monaco Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon earned the first podium of the Formula 1 2023 season for both himself and Alpine. Lewis Hamilton attacked Ocon during the rain-delayed portion of the race because the Mercedes pair had undercut the Ferraris, but the Frenchman resisted and managed to maintain a podium finish. He was named driver of the day for his performance.&nbsp;

Following Charles Leclerc's post-qualifying penalty, Ocon started in third position and maintained it by outpacing teammate Pierre Gasly, two Ferraris, and two Mercedes. Early on, he avoided contact with Carlos Sainz, and once the Ferrari danger subsided, he fended off a late challenge from Lewis Hamilton to maintain the final podium spot.

Ocon said in a post-race talk that the Alpine team pitted him on the "perfect lap" that allowed him to maintain third position in challenging circumstances.

At the Monaco Grand Prix, the world got its first look at the upgraded Mercedes F1 vehicle for 2023. First glimpses of the vehicle in Monaco reveal that Mercedes has a new front suspension, new sidepods, and a new floor.&nbsp;The most obvious alteration was abandoning the highly criticised zeropod design in favour of a downwash ramp. This is the first revision the team has made after realising that the W13 and W14 couldn't compete with their initial designs. Since the W14's current tub was developed by the disregarded idea and cannot be altered this year, they have been constrained in their efforts so far. There has been no change to the location of the cockpit or the side guards. That looks to have restricted how much undercut Mercedes could form into the new sidepods. They've been widened considerably, and the original small vertical inlet for the radiators has been swapped out for a more standard broad horizontal aperture.

<h2>Mercedes W14 Upgrades: What are the Changes?</h2>

Aerodynamic down washing of air towards the floor edges is still occurring thanks to the top side impact bar functioning as a winglet. However, unlike the now-standard deep undercut channel on the front of sidepods, this one is broad and shaped more like a Ferrari's than a Red Bull's.

The front suspension also underwent a major transformation, and it now looks to feature anti-dive geometry. The vertical offset between the front and back wishbones defines this. The higher the angle, the more effective it is as an anti-dive.

Drivers entering a double yellow flag zone will be given both visual and audible warnings of the need to reduce speed. When a zone is marked with two yellow flags, all delta values must be reset to zero.

The FIA is steadfast in its commitment to safety, even though the new system disadvantages certain drivers by forcing them to slow down for a double yellow that has now expired.&nbsp;

There will now be a lower speed limit through a double yellow flag area anytime a safety vehicle or virtual safety car is in use. Tim Goss, technical director of the FIA, thought that establishing a limit speed would be beneficial for drivers and safer for track workers.

As seen in the image, this is certainly a move away from the team's original idea, and while the images aren't overly clear, it looks as though the sidepod intake is remarkably larger than what we've seen so far this year. As Bryson commented, the car still retains some of its original design, with it potentially taking inspiration from Aston Martin's AMR23 design.&nbsp;

As usual, it's important to note that upgrades do not mean a sudden increase in performance. The team will use Monaco to extract as much data from these upgrades as possible to create a setup that will work. But reports are estimating an improvement in performance by as much as 2-tenths a lap.

Despite developing the zero-pod design for over a year now, Lewis Hamilton finally spoke out about the direction they were taking, admitting that he didn't agree with it. After the postponement of the Grand Prix in Emilia Romagna, the Brackley-based team suggested that the big modifications will be unveiled in Monte Carlo. The new Mercedes sports a sidepod that looks like the one on the championship-leading Red Bull.

This weekend you shall see two Mclaren MCL35M Formula One cars,&nbsp;on the grid, painted in the most iconic livery – racing blue colourway alongside an orange stripe&nbsp;– based closely on Gulf’s classic design.

McLaren’s F1 car, the MCL35M, will sport the one-off Gulf livery for Monaco GP on May 21-23. Mclaren and Gulf have a history of successful racing partnership, which was revived in July 2020. In addition to the most iconic and recognisable livery on the F1 grid, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo’s racing suits will feature the same scheme along with bespoke retro-styled helmets – raffled for the team’s mental health charity partner, Mind.

The last time motorsport witnessed this livery was at the 1997 24 hours of Le Mans, where the car number 41 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail finished second sporting the Gulf’s racing blue and fluro orange colour scheme. One key feature of the campaign is to make fans aware that Mclaren-Gulf merchandise and lifestyle wear, inspired by the bespoke livery, will be available on Mclaren’s online store for purchase.

McLaren showcases one-off Gulf livery for Monaco GP

This weekend you shall see a two Mclaren MCL35M Formula One cars on the grid painted in the most iconic livery – racing blue colourway alongside an orange stripe, based closely on Gulf’s classic design

Earlier postponed, the 2020 Monaco GP&nbsp;has now officially&nbsp;been cancelled by the&nbsp;Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM). Further, to ease the financial burden on teams, the F1 organisers have deferred the introduction of new technical regulations to 2022.

For the first time since 1954, the Monaco GP, one of the most iconic, most challenging and beloved rounds of the Formula 1 championship, will not be a part of this year's season as the&nbsp;Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) has officially cancelled the proceedings,&nbsp;stating that 'under no circumstances will it be possible to organise these events later this year.' To assess the current situation with respect to the 2020 F1 race calendar, two of the first eight&nbsp;rounds of the championship stand cancelled (Australian GP &amp; Monaco GP) while the remaining six&nbsp;have been postponed indefinitely (the Bahrain GP, Vietnam GP, China GP, Dutch GP, Spanish GP &amp; the Azerbaijan GP). With this, the 2020 F1 proceedings are now likely to begin in June with the Canadian&nbsp;Grand Prix.&nbsp;

Further, Formula 1,&nbsp;the FIA and all the participating teams have unanimously come to the decision of deferring the implementation of the new technical regulations to 2022. Initially planned to be introduced from the 2021 season, the decision has been taken to ease the financial stress on all teams as the reduced number races also mean reduced incomes for all stakeholders alike. The new technical regulations call for some major aerodynamic &amp; chassis upgrades in order to make the racing more close and competitive. Now though, all teams will carry over the&nbsp;2020 chassis design into 2021. This will be a challenging affair for teams like McLaren, who are set to switch from Renault to Mercedes engines from next year. They will have to incorporate the new engines into the old chassis.

However, the new financial regulations will not be delayed (which call for budget caps on all teams to level out the playing field) and will&nbsp;come into effect from 2021.&nbsp;According to the new financial rules, each team will have to adhere to a budget cap of $175 million per year (on the expenditure related to car performance - excludes marketing costs, the salaries of drivers, and of the top three personnel at any team).
