<p>The 2023 Monterey Car Week has come to a close with the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held on the Sunday falling on 20<sup>th</sup> August, rounding off the event and with that, we have our 2023 Best of Show winner – a 1937 Mercedes 540K Special Roadster owned by one Jim Patterson.</p>

<p>Jim, who is a known collector of rare vehicles, bought this car in 2022 in light of how rare it was. In fact, only three of these long tail Special Roadsters exist in the world today. The one that won the Best of Show at the 2023 edition of Pebble Beach is special in its own right as it has only been driven 13,000 miles, has never been separated from its drivetrain and in the greater scheme of things, has never even been restored.</p>

<p>The Mercedes 540K was first shown at the 1936 Paris Motor Show and at the time, it retailed for 28,000RM. In 2021 that amounted to $2,30,000 but the real cost of the car is much higher today. It features a 5,401cc straight 8 engine that was capable of delivering 113bhp. There was a supercharger too, which could be manually or automatically engaged. For the latter, all you needed to do was prod on the throttle all the way to its limit. With that, the power output got upped to 177bhp. The top speed of the 540K Special Roadster was 170 km/h.</p>

<p>Mercedes offered three different variants of the 540K depending on customer preference, with a couple of them being long wheelbase and one featuring a short wheelbase. The 540K was also available as a two-seater convertible and as a four-seater convertible. The winner of the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is a two-seater version. In all its iterations, a total of 419 units of the 540K were delivered from the Sindelfingen factory at the time with production ceasing in 1940.</p>

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance: The Mercedes 540K Special Roadster Bags 2023's Best of Show Title

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is a historic car show held every year at the end of the Monterey Car Week with Best of Show title being given to a vintage car. The 2023 winner is the Mercedes 540K Special Roadster.

<p>Mercedes-Benz debuted the 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT second generation during Monterey Car Week 2023. The new, second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT may not appear drastically different from the first-generation model at first sight, but there are significant differences between the two vehicles. The new&nbsp;2023 Mercedes-AMG GT has 2+2 seats and all-wheel drive as standard. Unlike the first-generation AMG GT, which was built on a scaled-down version of the SLS AMG chassis, this model uses the same aluminium architecture as the new SL roadster. This indicates that the new car ditches the one-of-a-kind rear dual-clutch transaxle that its predecessor used in favour of a normally positioned nine-speed multi-clutch gearbox. The new AMG GT retains the tried and tested twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine in two states of tune.</p>

<h2>2023 Mercedes-AMG GT: Design</h2>

<p>In terms of its appearance from the outside, not much has changed from the previous generation. Despite riding on a new platform shared with the SL, it has the traditional GT car proportions of a long bonnet, curving top, and coupe-like rear end. The second-generation car retains the original's signature Panamericana grille and swept-back headlights, but there are enough visual differences to set it apart. Also, towards the back, the overall shape of the taillights is the same, while the lights themselves are brand new. The GT's dimensions are now 4728 mm in length, 1984 mm in width, and 1354 mm in height, which is an increase over its predecessor.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 Mercedes-AMG GT: Interior</h2>

<p>The revised two-plus-two cabin configuration of the second-generation AMG GT model is a major change from the previous generation, allowing for more passengers and more usability. Customers looking for a flexible high-performance vehicle will find the GT to be a good fit, as it comes with a more convenient and roomy trunk. Because it shares its platform with the new SL, the interior design of both vehicles is similar. A big 11.9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen takes up most of the central console, and a 12.3-inch display is mounted behind the wheel.</p>

<h2>2023 Mercedes-AMG GT: Engine</h2>

<p>The new AMG GT is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The base model, the GT 55 4Matic+, produces 469bhp and 700 Nm of torque, while the top-of-the-line model, the GT 63 4Matic+, produces 577bhp and 800 Nm of torque. The new model has a 9-speed automatic transmission, up from the 7-speed DCT in the previous model, and comes standard with a fully variable all-wheel-drive system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Mercedes, the AMG GT 55 can reach 100k/h in 3.9 seconds while the AMG GT 63 can do it in 3.2 seconds. The AMG GT 55 can reach 295km/h, but the AMG GT 63 can reach 315km/h due to its increased power.</p>

<p>There is a new AMG Active Ride Control double-wishbone suspension in the vehicle. In addition to a front lift kit, the system's electronically adjustable dampers and active roll control make for a formidable combination. Braking is handled by a set of front discs measuring 390mm in diameter and a set of rear discs measuring 360mm in diameter.</p>


Monterey Car Week 2023: Second-Gen Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Revealed with 577bhp and AWD

The new Mercedes-AMG GT's appearance stands out from the new SL's, yet the two vehicles have almost similar cabins. Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system has been fitted along with a digital instrument cluster and a massive centre touchscreen in portrait mode.

<p>Monterey Car Week 2023: The brand-new DB12 Volante, powered by a V8 engine sourced from Mercedes-AMG, made its debut at the ongoing car show in a convertible form by British premium sports car manufacturer Aston Martin. The most recent model, which replaces the DB11 Convertible, no longer has the V12 engine and features an entirely refreshed exterior design and interior layout with cutting-edge technology. It, however, maintains the distinctive fabric reclining roof of its predecessor. The hard tonneau cover, which houses the roof, opens up to reveal the cabin's fascinating interior materials. Electrically powered, the fabric roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds at up to 50km/h. If you are within 6.5 feet of the vehicle, you can even control it remotely. In addition, since it is a fabric roof, it’s available in more contrasting colour options. The top is available in Black, Silver, Red, Blue, or any combination of those colours.</p>

<h2>Aston Martin DB12 Volante: Platform and Powertrain</h2>

<p>Aston Martin stated that the Volante is designed to offer the same uncompromised handling and performance as the DB12 coupe. A lot of thought went into strengthening the car's chassis because removing the roof lowers the torsional rigidity necessary for dynamic capability. Apart from adding a crossbrace across the engine bay, the company has also stiffened the suspension mounts by 140 per cent at the front. These modifications imply that the DB12 Volante possesses 3.7 per cent higher torsional rigidity compared to the DB11. The soft top and stiffer chassis have added 111kgs to the Volante's weight.</p>

<p>The Aston Martin DB12 Volante convertible is driven by a Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol unit, which delivers 662bhp of maximum power and 800Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels when the engine is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It has an electronic rear differential as well, and according to the company, it has a top speed of 325km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in about 3.7 seconds.</p>

<h2>Aston Martin DB12 Volante: Interior Features</h2>

<p>The DB12 Volante incorporates Aston Martin's latest infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, just like the coupe. Conventional controls for features that are often used like heating and ventilation are included in the multimedia system. A Bowers &amp; Wilkins 15-speaker 1,170-watt setup is an upgrade for music lovers from the typical 11-speaker 390-watt standard sound system.</p>

<p>Aston Martin has also given the Volante a distinctive interior upgrade. The carmaker has added trim to the seat backs to complement the door panels because the front seats are more noticeable when the roof is down. In line with the overall aesthetic of the car, the rim could be crafted from wood or carbon fibre.</p>

<h2>Aston Martin DB12 Volante: Rivals and Deliveries</h2>

<p>The DB12 Volante is essentially the same in every way as the coupe, with the exception of the top and chassis alterations. Upon launch, it will compete against models such as the Bentley Continental GT Convertible and Ferrari Roma Spider.</p>

<p>Now, that the car has made its global debut at the latest edition of the Monterey Car Week, expect the Aston Martin DB12 Volante to go into production in the third quarter of the year, with customer deliveries scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023.</p>

<h2>Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster: Styling</h2>

<p>The roof of the F5 Revolution Roadster is a sturdy carbon fibre composite material with an Alcantara inner lining. Hennessey claims that even though it is fastened in place with powerful locks, it is simple to dismantle because it only weighs 8.16kgs. The Texas-based company further claims that the Roadster has undergone substantial re-engineering in comparison to its coupe counterpart. Performance-wise, the new model is said to excel over its Coupe sibling. It gets an array of modifications made particularly for the racing track, which include frontal dive planes, large front and rear splitters, and a back wing to enhance aerodynamics. Further enhancements include a suspension that has been altered, digital track telemetry, and more.</p>

<h2>Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster: Engine</h2>

<p>A 6.6-litre V-8 twin-turbocharged motor, which cranks out 1,817bhp, is housed under the bonnet of the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster. Just like the F5 Roadster, the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster is equipped with a sturdy tempered glass engine viewing window that showcases its potent drivetrain. The glass’s strength is almost four times that of conventional annealed glass, claims the company. The glass is enveloped by a detachable carbon fibre engine cover with elaborately crafted heat extraction holes, which are similar to those in the rear bumper.</p>

The T.33 Spider and the T.50s Niki Lauda, a track-only variant of the T.50 flagship supercar, were revealed along with the T.50's first production model. The company had already announced that attendees of the Car Show will be treated with the global premieres of not one but two new products – the brand's open-top road-going coupe and a track-only special. Gordon Murray's magnificent T.50 and T.33 completely stunned us back when they were initially unveiled. <p>The T.50s raises the bar for the already incredible T.50 and pays homage to F1 hero Niki Lauda, Itis powered by a 3.9-litre Cosworth V12 engine, producing 751bhp of maximum power – about 99bhp increase from the 652bhp of the T.50 standard variant. With a massive fan pulling the T.50s to the ground, it can be considered an entirely new kind of ‘fan car.’ The GMA T.50s, which costs over AUD $6 million and is constructed on a bespoke foundation from the ordinary T.50, can produce up to 1200kgs of downforce when travelling at high speeds, thanks to a radical rear-mounted fan, an aero kit, and a large delta wing. Dario Franchitti, a driver for Murray who has won the Indy 500 three times and four IndyCar championships, will operate the original Brabham BT44B F1 vehicle at the occasion. The T.50 is the original fan car that Gordon Murray created in the 1970s.</p>

<p>The first-generation T.50 was also on display in Monterey. This is a significant accomplishment for the crew because the supercars are now being produced and will soon be dispatched to their owners. This will demonstrate GMA's ability to provide personalised customisation, with an assurance that no two vehicles will be identical.</p>

<h2>Gordon Murray T.33 Spider</h2>

<p>The Spider, which was created in tandem with the T.33 Coupe, has the same 608bhp Cosworth V12 engine as the T.33 Coupe, but it also has a distinctive two-piece retractable roof, which can be stored in the nose. It is heavier than the coupe by only 18kgs, owing to this creative design's weight-saving measures and lack of a complicated folding mechanism. According to GMA, because the T.33 was created with an open-top Spider in mind, it already surpasses most of the requirements for body shell rigidity.</p>

<p>The T.33 Spider's fantastic engine note is what really sets it apart, and buyers will be able to appreciate it more with the roof folded down. The rear window can be electrically lowered to for more engine noise to further improve the experience. The peak power for the 3.9-litre V12 engine remains unchanged and is produced at 10,250rpm. About 90 per cent of the engine's torque, i.e. 451Nm, is accessible between 4,500 and 10,500rpm.</p>

<p>GMA does not provide a 6-speed automatic in the Spider, unlike the coupe; instead, only a 6-speed manual is available. The decision, according to the manufacturer, was made because the manual transmission remains the most popular choice for the T.33 coupe. The car also has carbon ceramic brakes, sophisticated active aerodynamics, and cutting-edge infotainment capabilities with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. <p>Lotus has revealed the Type 66 during Monterey Car Week, which will be manufactured as a limited-run racecar. The Type 66, which is based on lost Lotus concepts from 1970, fuses the company's rich racing history with cutting-edge materials and design. Now, the British sports car manufacturer has revealed that it will produce only 10 examples of a revised version of the vehicle, which was originally intended to compete in the Can-Am series. Due to Chapman's focus on F1, however, the concept never got farther beyond the blueprints and prototype stages. Lotus, having rediscovered and redesigned the Type 66, plans to build it at a cost of around USD 1.3 million each, with performance guaranteed to be on par with modern GT3 racing cars.</p>

<p>Paying homage to its history, Lotus has faithfully replicated the iconic red, white, and gold colour scheme, the colour scheme of its Formula 1 team during that era. Drawing inspiration from its Formula 1 vehicle of the time, the newly resurrected Type 66 incorporates various enhancements, including side-mounted radiators. Lotus claims that more than a thousand hours of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modelling has gone into producing the Type 66. This remarkable commitment to innovation far surpasses the technological capabilities of the early 1970s.</p>

<p>Designed to generate greater downforce than the vehicle's entire weight at the top speed, the car’s front wing directs airflow from the front through and below the rear wings. Modern Lotus cars, such as the Emira sports car and the Evija hypercar, continue to use this trademark aspect of Lotus vehicle design, which involves air travelling through rather than around the vehicle.</p>

<h2>Lotus Type 66: Engine</h2>

<p>While Lola and McLaren dominated the Can-Am series in the 1960s, Lotus gave serious thought to entering the series in the latter years of that decade. Throughout its dominant period, McLaren employed Chevrolet engines, including a big-block 8.3-litre unit in the 1971 M8F, which reportedly produced over 800bhp. While it's likely that the initial Lotus Can-Am plan would have followed competitors' lead and competed with American V-8 power, the project was never developed far enough to acquire an engine.</p>

<p>Although Lotus hasn't named a specific manufacturer, it has described the Type 66's engine as a ‘period-representative V-8 pushrod’. Power output is projected to be 819bhp at 8800 rpm and 745Nm of torque at 7400 rpm. The engine is equipped with a forged aluminium crank, pistons, con rods and an amazing set of unique induction trumpets.</p>

<p>The new vehicle's central carbon-fibre tub makes it less period accurate structurally. Lotus claims that it will have electronic power steering, a contemporary sequential racing gearbox with an anti-stall system, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS), but the body panels will be aluminium so it won't seem too modern. Lotus claims that it will be faster than a GT3 racing car on circuits like Laguna Seca.</p>

With hand-drawn illustrations, this one-off creation artistically narrates the history of Bugatti. The legendary Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 SC Atlantic are part of the 26 hand-drawn sketches on the passenger side. On the other hand, the EB110, Veyron, Chiron, and others are among the 19 sketches on the driver's side. According to the brand, these details have been made to survive the test of time using modern procedures and techniques.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team spent over 400 hours creating each drawing, according to Bugatti. The artwork features 45 different vintage Bugatti cars in all. <h2>Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era: Powertrain</h2>

<p>The Golden Era is based on the Chiron Super Sport and is driven by a massive 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine with 1,500bhp and 1,600Nm of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is mated to the engine. Moreover, the hypercar has a top speed of 380 kilometre per hour.</p>

<h2>Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era: Exterior</h2>

<p>According to the company, &nbsp;the Golden Era model took over a two-year period to complete with 400 hours spent on the artwork visible on either side of the car.&nbsp;Designers used special pens for the body artwork and drew a total of 45 exquisite hand-drawn designs. The driver's side features 19 sketches, while the passenger side has 26 unique drawings. Additionally, the car's exterior features a unique "Dore" gold paint job mixed with the metallic variation of "Nocturne Black.".</p>

<p>Maserati has revealed the MCXtrema, its most powerful model yet, at the 2023 Monterey Car Week. A 730bhp-producing track-only supercar, weighing 1300kgs, the Maserati MCXtrema, a derivative of the MC20, has been designed to commemorate the legacy of the company's groundbreaking MC12 racing car from the early 2000s. do not, however, make a mistake of thinking that the MCXtrema is just a Maserati GT2 with more power. It features a completely redesigned chassis with integrated aerodynamics and cooling channels for reliable performance on the track. A massive vertical shark-fin wing runs down the back, providing stability around turns and boosting the effectiveness of the rear wing. <h2>Maserati MCXtrema Track Car: Design</h2>

<p>The body of the MCX is sleeker and sharper than that of the MC20, which was already rather aggressive, thanks to the addition of a carbon fibre front splitter and air curtains, which improve airflow beneath and around the vehicle. The front fenders have a pronounced peak like the famed 1959 Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’, and the clamshell has air vents in the form of a trident to increase downforce.</p>

<p>Circling the B-pillar, a flying buttress directs airflow to the radiators of the mid-mounted engine and the rear wing. In order to increase stability and direct airflow towards the enormous rear wing, a roof-mounted split air intake has been installed on each side of a distinctive, LED sharkfin. The rear bodywork is especially bold, with a carbon fibre mesh covering the exhaust pipes and trident-themed taillights and resting above a massive diffuser. Maserati claims that the MCXtrema's undercarriage is almost flat for improved aerodynamics.</p>

Even here, Maserati's trademark pre-chamber ignition technology generates 730bhp and 729Nm of torque from the engine. Compared to the street vehicle, that's an increase of 109bhp, yet the torque output is the same. The gearbox is a six-speed sequential unit, and the limited-slip differential is mechanical and self-locking.</span></span></p>

<p><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-weight:normal">The MCXtrema gets double-wishbone suspension at each corner and a carbon fibre monocoque chassis under its skin. Adjustable springs and sway bars complement the four-way dampers. Both the brakes and steering are electronic.</span></span></p>
