<p>The highly anticipated first race of the 2024 MotoGP season was held at Qatar's Losail International Circuit and did not disappoint. Much like the Moto3 race before, the start of the MotoGP race was delayed. Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez had trouble with his year-old RS-GP, after the warm-up lap. As a result, there was another warm-up lap and the race distance was reduced by one lap resulting in a 21-lap race. In the end, it was reigning World Champion Francesco Bagnaia who not only took the race win but also took hold of the top spot in this year’s Riders’ Championship. The second and third place in the race and the Riders' standing were taken by Brad Binder and Jorge Martin, respectively.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Qatar GP: Marquez vs Acosta&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Beginning in the second row, Marc Marquez made a daring move to pass Jack Miller and Enea Bastianini, securing fourth place. At the same time, Pedro Acosta demonstrated his speed by quickly passing Fabio Di Giannantonio and Aleix Espargaro farther down the circuit. Acosta secured sixth place by passing Bastianini at the conclusion of lap three, and Martin secured second place by doing the same thing a few turns later on Brad Binder.</p>

<p>Acosta doggedly pursued the eight-time world champion, Marc Marquez, even though Marquez had trouble keeping up with the leading trio. On lap eight, Binder made a move on Martin to take the lead after <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/motogp-francesco-bagnaia-to-continue-with-ducati-until-2026-signs-multi-year-extension-deal-116369/">Bagnaia's lead</a> had grown to more than half a second. By lap nine, Bagnaia had accelerated enough to close the one-second gap. In response, Martin took back his position from Binder on the first turn.</p>

<p>The next lap saw a change of second place as Binder passed Martin on the run-in to turn one. Acosta successfully passed Marc Marquez at turn one on lap 12, after they had maintained their positions for several laps. This allowed Acosta to launch a bid for fourth place. On lap 14, Acosta made a mistake that cost him the place, and Marc Marquez took over. With seven laps to go, Acosta had fallen farther and lower in the standings, and he was now third behind Alex Marquez and Bastianini.</p>

<p>In the battle for third, Marc Marquez rapidly closed back in on Martin but the Pramac rider instead gained time on Binder as he eventually dropped the Gresini rider.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Qatar GP: Honda and Yamaha</h2>

<p>What is disappointing to see is that the Japanese manufacturers have not made a significant step forward. While that was expected somewhat of Yamaha, I was expecting something more from Honda after all the updates they brought to their bikes this year. Fabio Quartararo managed to finish ahead of any other rider on a Japanese machine in both the Sprint and main race. But that is a testament to his riding skills and not the capability of the machine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Sunday, the Yamaha MotoGP team's Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins voiced their doubts about the competitiveness of their Yamaha M1 machines. Not only does this shared fear affect the riders personally, but it also casts a bleak light on Yamaha's hopes of rescuing their performance at the Qatar Grand Prix.</p>

<p>The two Japanese manufacturers who are lagging behind their <a href="https://www.autox.com/interviews/massimo-rivola-interview-we-proved-that-aprilia-can-beat-ducati-in-motogp-116411/">European counterparts </a>have failed to make substantial progress in the field, despite making substantial alterations to their motorcycles.&nbsp;</p>


MotoGP Qatar GP: Bagnaia Wins First Race as Acosta and Marquez Take Center Stage

Francesco Bagnaia, the defending World Champion, won the opening Qatar GP. Brad Binder and Jorge Martin finished second and third in the race and Riders' standing.

<p>Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati, despite starting from the 13th spot on the grid, managed to win the Indonesian Grand Prix. After the previous race leader, Jorge Martin of Pramac, crashed, this victory put him back atop the MotoGP point standings. After dominating in a sprint race on Saturday, Jorge Martin held a seven-point lead over Bagnaia and looked poised to increase that margin in Sunday's race. Three seconds ahead after moving up from sixth on the grid, Martin lost control of his Pramac Ducati on the 13th lap of the 27-lap race and crashed at Turn 11. After Martin went down, Aprilia's Maverick Vinales grabbed the lead. However, Bagnaia, who had moved up from 13th to third in the opening three laps, steadily closed up and passed Vinales to claim victory. After narrowing the distance on Bagnaia on the final lap, Vinales held on to second place, while Fabio Quartararo, riding a factory Yamaha, came in third. Bagnaia extended his championship lead to 18 points heading into next week's Australian Grand Prix.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MotoGP Indonesian GP: Mandalika Circuit Race Result</h2>

<p>Vinales, who lost a lot of ground in the Sprint race owing to tyre blistering, was the only Aprilia rider to keep on the medium rear tyre. His teammate Espargaro, on the other hand, fell to a lower position in the standings as his bet on the soft tyre failed. While most riders stuck with their preference for soft front tyres, Vinales and Bagnaia went with the medium and hard options, respectively.</p>

<p>Luca Marini, who started on the pole for his first race and finished second in the Sprint, was initially vying with Quartararo for third place. However, Brad Binder knocked him off the track, forcing him to get back at the tail of the pack and complete a long-lap penalty before he could retire. Binder earned a long-lap penalty for initiating the incident involving Luca Marini during the race when he collided with Aleix Espargaro. Binder overcame these obstacles to place sixth, just behind the injured Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio of Gresini Ducati, who finished in a career-best fourth place. Due to the difficult course conditions, seven riders, including Jorge Martin, did not cross the finish line.</p>

<p>Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda also failed to finish both races this weekend. Turn 13 was the location of his race-ending crash. For causing a collision in Turn 1 of the Catalunya circuit earlier in the race, Enea Bastianini was also given a long-lap penalty, which he had to serve late in the race.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Indonesian GP: Seven DNF in Indonesia</h2>

<p>In his first Grand Prix race back after breaking his leg at Mugello in June, LCR Honda's Alex Rins finished tenth. Only 14 riders finished the entire attritional race, with Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli finishing many laps behind the leaders.</p>

<p>Several more riders, including Jorge Martin and Luca Marini, crashed during the race. Teammate Johann Zarco from Pramac, as well as factory Honda riders Marc Marquez and Joan Mir, were among these. Both Augusto Fernandez and Pol Espargaro, riders for the Tech3 GasGas team, had incidents that forced them to retire from the race.</p>


MotoGP Indonesian GP: Francesco Bagnaia Wins in Indonesia from Thirteenth as Martin Crashes from the Lead

Pecco Bagnaia, the defending MotoGP champion, started the race in 13th place but ended up winning in Indonesia after his main title opponent Jorge Martin crashed out of a large lead. The Indonesian GP race saw only 14 riders cross the finish line.

<p>Jorge Martin achieved a commanding victory in the Misano MotoGP event, securing a consecutive triumph by emerging as the winner in the primary race, with Marco Bezzecchi finishing in second place. Just like the MotoGP sprint, the race was led by a breakaway duo of pole-sitter Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. Bagnaia swarmed all over Martin's rear end in preparation for an overtaking as they approached the last turn, but Martin held strong. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/moto-gp/">MotoGP</a> main event at San Marino GP got off to a clean start for pole-sitter Jorge Martin on his Pramac Ducati machine. Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia overtook VR46 Ducati's Marco Bezzechi to go up to third, while KTM's Dani Pedrosa remained in fourth. KTM rider Brad Binder moved up to sixth after passing Maverick Vinales of Aprilia, while Miguel Oliveira of RNF Aprilia moved up to seventh, passing Honda's Marc Marquez and moving ahead of Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez and VR46's Luca Marini.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MotoGP San Marino GP: 2023 Misano Race Result</h2>

<p>Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia slid to eleventh place in the Top 15, as the standings altered as the race went on, behind Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha, Raul Fernandez of RNF, Michele Pirro of Ducati, and Johann Zarco of Pramac.</p>

<p>Martin was being pursued by Bagnaia and Bezzecchi, while Binder successfully overtook his teammate Pedrosa and joined the group of pursuers. Bezzecchi successfully overtook Bagnaia to secure the second position, but a moment of going wide enabled the VR46 rider to regain second place and maintain it.</p>

<p>But Binder had a little mishap behind them, destroying whatever hope he had of finishing in the top three. He successfully resumed participation in the race, with Pedrosa finishing in fourth place ahead of Vinales. Meanwhile, Marquez moved up to sixth after passing Oliveira, while Alex Marquez moved up to eighth. Marini was ninth, followed by Fernandez, who ascended the ranking. Zarco also advanced in position, moving from 11th place ahead of Espargaro, Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli of Yamaha, and Pol Espargaro of GASGAS Tech 3, securing a spot among the top 15 points earners.</p>

<h2>MotoGP San Marino GP: Bagnaia Holds Off Pedrosa's Late Charge for the Podium</h2>

<p>The current leader of the World Championship, Francesco Bagnaia, made a remarkable comeback after a major crash only one week before, displaying a strong performance and closely challenging the race winner, Jorge Martin, in the San Marino Grand Prix. The Italian competitor secured the third position on the podium. The accident happened after he narrowly escaped major damage in a collision with fellow racer Brad Binder the previous week. Bagnaia now maintains a 36-point advantage over Martin, who emerged victorious against Marco Bezzecchi, the runner-up.</p>

<p>The Ducati rider held off a fierce late challenge from KTM rider Dani Pedrosa, while Martin cruised to victory from the pole position after shattering the qualifying lap record by half a second. With his victory in Saturday's sprint race, Martin swept the weekend. Bagnaia finished the race with the assistance of pain medication, while Bezzecchi continued to nurse a wrist injury sustained in last weekend's Catalunya Grand Prix.<br />

MotoGP San Marino GP: Jorge Martin Dominates at Misano, Closes Gap on Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia

After starting from the pole position and finishing more than a second clear of Marco Bezzecchi, Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin is currently 36 points behind Francesco Bagnaia. Even though Bagnaia was injured throughout the race, he still managed to finish third.

<p>Francesco Bagnaia beat off Marco Bezzecchi to win the MotoGP Dutch GP, with Aleix Espargaro coming in third. MotoGP Dutch GP in Assen saw pole sitter Marco Bezzecchi fall to third on his VR46 Ducati after a strong start from Brad Binder on his KTM, who then went on to pass Francesco Bagnaia on the second lap. Luca Marini (VR46) finished in fifth. Along with the Pramac Ducatis, Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo fell out of the top ten. Multiple riders were engaged in numerous collisions as Bagnaia seized the lead from Binder in a few of laps. Miller was the first to drop out, then Quartararo dropped out, bringing Zarco down with him. After looking mighty, Vinales was up next. After Oliveira had to pull out due to technical difficulties, Ducati's Enea Bastianini attempted to come back and failed miserably, with smoke billowing from his exhaust.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MotoGP Dutch GP: Assen GP Race Result</h2>

<p>Binder had to work hard to hold off Aleix Espargaro in the last few laps, but he was able to maintain control of his rear tyre and place third on the road. Remarkably, though, he received a post-race track limitations penalty for again nearly grazing the green paint going out of Stekkenwal, transforming his podium finish into a fourth-place finish, exactly as it happened in the sprint.</p>

<p>The next few laps saw two drivers pull into the pits to end their races: Miguel Oliveira (RNF Aprilia) had been running in the top 10 before he retired (possibly due to his lingering shoulder injury), and Honda replacement Iker Lecuona ran as high as 11th before retiring with what may have been a mechanical issue. Finally, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Ducati) fell out while vying for a top 10 finish at Strubben, much like Bastianini.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Dutch GP: Marc Marquez Withdraws from Assen GP</h2>

<p>Following an exacerbation of injuries acquired in the chaotic German MotoGP a week before, Marc Marquez opted out of the MotoGP Dutch TT at Assen. The Spaniard has now failed to start five of this year's eight grand prix events owing to medical concerns, and this is the second time in as many events that he has opted out of beginning the full-length GP race. Eight-time GP World Champion Marc Marquez came in Assen admitting that he had fractured a rib at the Sachsenring event, where he had fallen five times, the last time in warm-up, forcing him to pull out of the race. Nonetheless, Marquez came back to the track a few days later in the Netherlands, but he struggled the whole weekend and ultimately finished 17th in the Sprint Race.</p>

<p>Two more accidents followed, the second a questionable collision with Enea Bastianini as Marquez tried to tow the Ducati rider but instead hit the rear of it in his distraction. Marquez has decided to have an early start on his six-week summer holiday in an effort to regain full fitness after what is shaping up to be his fourth straight injury-plagued MotoGP season.</p>
