Despite crashing late in the second practice session for the Thailand Grand Prix, MotoGP title contender Jorge Martin set the fastest lap times. In a competition where the top 18 riders were separated by less than half a second, Martin emerged as the fastest with a final flying lap of 1m29.826s. But then, on the right-hand hairpin of Turn 3, he crashed. Fortunately, Martin was unharmed in the mishap.

The top 10 riders were Maverick Vinales, Fabio di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, Brad Binder, Aleix Espargaro, and Fabio Quartararo before the time attacks began in the last 15 minutes. The top ten riders were separated by only 0.382s, and the entire field was within 0.924s of each other. With brand new medium rear tires—the weekend's softest option—Binder and Vinales temporarily took the lead. On his 22nd lap, Martin posted the fastest time in the race, clocking in at 1 minute, 29 seconds.

After starting 14th on the timesheets and switching to a new rubber, championship leader Bagnaia climbed into the top ten on his penultimate run and automatically advanced to Q2.

During the session, Martin's bike snapped, and a piece of carbon fibre aero flew off and hit Marc Marquez in the shoulder. At about the halfway point of the session, the Pramac rider cut the curb while entering the pit lane.

At the end of the session, Marquez was trailing Jorge Martin again, vying for a spot in the top 10. The Repsol Honda rider started out in 13th place, so he had to keep an eye on the rest of the field as he got ready for the last lap. This time around, Marquez followed Fabio di Giannantonio on the Gresini Ducati, who is widely expected to transfer teams and ride for Repsol Honda's #93 squad next year. Augusto Fernandez, a rookie rider for Tech3, was following both of them but was able to use the wind to his advantage to finish tenth, just ahead of Marquez. Notably, Honda was the only manufacturer with no riders in the top 10 positions after Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo finished eighth.

Francesco Bagnaia is still 27 points ahead of Jorge Martin heading into the Thai MotoGP. The Pramac Ducati rider's high-risk tyre strategy on the final lap at Phillip Island backfired, allowing this gap to open up. Notably, Miguel Oliveira won the rainy Buriram race for KTM last year, with Jack Miller and Bagnaia of Ducati close behind. Martin came in tenth place at the race. In dry circumstances, however, rookie VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi had beaten both Martin and Bagnaia for the pole position.

This year, all three days of the Grand Prix weekend are likely to be cloudy and damp. After withdrawing from the Phillip Island event owing to suffering from leg fractures sustained at Mugello, Alex Rins will also be unable to compete in Thailand.

After a late crash in the second practice session for the Thailand Grand Prix, MotoGP title challenger Jorge Martin set the fastest lap times. The Pramac Ducati racer lost the Australian race's final lap and is now 27 points behind Francesco Bagnaia.

MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix's first-day practice was topped by Pramac's Jorge Martin, but championship leader Francesco Bagnaia struggled and ended up 10th. Despite being 27 points behind championship leader Pecco Bagnaia, Martin put in a solid performance throughout the whole round. He spent the majority of the practice in third place, just 0.011 seconds behind the leader, Maverick Vinales, and a paltry 0.009 seconds behind Alex Marquez, who was in second place.

Martin, however, made a calculated call by going with the softer of the two possible rear compounds this weekend, the "medium," which equates to last year's "soft" tyre. He was able to secure his position at the top with ease thanks to his choice. His first flying lap of the stint was the fastest, and his second lap time of 1 minute, 30.520 seconds cemented his position as the session's fastest rider.

Only Martin and Vinales were able to break into the 1-minute 30-second area by the time the practice session came to a close, with Vinales making use of a brand-new hard rear tyre to come within a quarter of a second of Martin's mark.

Jack Miller and Brad Binder, the two riders of the factory KTM squad, had a lacklustre practice session, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively, more than a second behind the leader. Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, who raced together with VR46 and finished in 15th and 16th places, also had a difficult race. After a difficult session, Marc Marquez finished in 18th place on the factory Honda, with teammate Joan Mir following closely behind him in 20th.

LCR's Takaaki Nakagami rode the top-finishing Honda, and he finished 11th overall. Note that Nakagami is LCR's only representative this weekend after Alex Rins withdrew due to soreness after having surgery to fix a hernia in his still-recovering right leg.

Aside from a few dramatic moments, the practice went relatively smoothly. Twelve-place finisher Fabio Quartararo was frustrated with himself for making a mistake at Turn 4 while trying to speed up his laps. Further, with Jorge Martin's victory in the Indonesian sprint race, Ducati has already clinched the constructors' title, and one of its teams is in prime position to win the teams' title as well.

<h2>MotoGP Thailand GP: About Chang International Circuit</h2>

The Chang International Circuit, which is located in the Buriram region and is therefore often known as the Buriram International Circuit, is the official host venue for the Thai MotoGP. It is the first circuit in Thailand to be certified as both FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A. The first MotoGP race was held here in 2018, making it a relatively new addition to the schedule.

The 4.55km track features 12 turns in a clockwise orientation. It has a lot of straightaways, so it looks easy, but riders have to strike a balance between speed and accuracy. The final turn is a popular place for passing, albeit doing so can result in either a successful pass or a detour into the gravel trap. The region's extreme heat and heavy humidity also present unique challenges for riders, who must masterfully control tyre temperatures.
