Volkswagen Motorsport India will mark its debut in the Indian Touring Car (ITC) category this year with the Vento cup car.

Taking the next step beyond one-make championships, Volkswagen Motorsport India (VMI) will soon be seen making its way into the Indian Touring Car (ITC) category of this year's&nbsp;MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship as a factory team, a feat which it has achieved for the first time. The factory team will be led by three Race Ventos&nbsp;piloted by&nbsp;Karthik Tharani, Ishaan Dodhiwala &amp;&nbsp;Dhruv Mohite.&nbsp;All three drivers have&nbsp;already been&nbsp;associated with VMI in the past as they have proved their mettle in the VMI's famed one-make championships in the past. Mohite is the latest name to join this group, more famously known for winning the 2018 Volkswagen Ameo Cup.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sharing his thoughts on this significant milestone,&nbsp;Mr&nbsp;Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/">Motorsport</a> India said, 'Over the last ten years, we have been strengthening our presence in Motorsport in India. Volkswagen is committed towards the cause and I am proud to announce our entry into India’s premier racing category with our very own factory team. We started developing our cars last year by participating in the Turbo class. But with the integration of the category into ITC, we are extremely happy to participate in a class that is at the pinnacle of racing in India.'

This also&nbsp;paves the way for more of VMI's one-make championship participants &amp; winners to grow their career in other racing division &amp; categories. Coming to VMI's ITC contender, the Race Vento is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox with a manual gearshift lever. The car produces 212bhp&nbsp;of power and 350Nm peak torque.
