<p>After months of teasers, Kia has unveiled its first&nbsp;C-segment pickup truck called the Tasman. The pickup will first arrive on the Korean market in H1 2025, with&nbsp;Australia, the Middle East, and Africa to follow later. Kia's first pickup has a 'purposeful design' and&nbsp;'ultra-spacious, comfortable cabin' with 'class-leading convenience features', along with two powertrain options under the hood.</p>

<p>Speaking of, the Tasman gets a&nbsp;2.5-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.&nbsp;The former produces 277bhp and 421Nm of peak torque, while the latter develops&nbsp;207bhp and&nbsp;441Nm. Power is transmitted through either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the market.&nbsp;In terms of performance, the petrol-powered&nbsp;Tasman can reach 100km/h in&nbsp;8.5 seconds, while the diesel model does the same in 10.4 seconds. The top speed for both versions is marked at 185km/h.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Kia Tasman: Suspension, Drive Modes</h2>

<p>The Kia Tasman comes in two body styles (single and double cab)&nbsp;and three variants (Baseline, X-Line, and X-Pro). While the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is an option with the base model, it is standard with the other two variants. With AWD comes three drive modes&nbsp;–&nbsp;Eco, Smart and Sport&nbsp;– and terrain modes (Desert, Mud, Snow, and Rock). The off-road-oriented X-Pro additionally gets a Rock terrain mode, in addition to automatically engaging rear Electronic Locking Differential (e-LD)&nbsp;and X-Trek mode. At the front, the Tasman uses a&nbsp;double-wishbone suspension, which Kia opted for to 'improve ride and handling in all conditions'. Suspension at the rear is taken care of by a rigid axle with leaf springs.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Kia Tasman: Exterior</h2>

<p>Outside, the Tasman features black cladding-integrated&nbsp;vertically stacked headlamps, which incorporate&nbsp;C-shaped DRLs. There is also a&nbsp;massive radiator grille, along with an upright front bumper. The rear has&nbsp;C-shaped taillamps with a debossed Kia logo in the centre. Size-wise, the pickup measures&nbsp;5,410mm long and has a 3,270mm-long wheelbase. On offer are four cargo bed configurations: Single Decker, Double Decker, Sports Bar, and Ladder Rack. Kia says the pickup&nbsp;can carry a maximum payload of 1,195kg in 2WD mode, in addition to a 3,500kg towing capacity.</p>

<p>Inside, the&nbsp;Tasman comes with a triple-screen setup consisting of a&nbsp;12.3-inch infotainment screen, a&nbsp;12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 5.0-inch display in the centre. Kia also offers a few toggle buttons and switches for media controls and other settings. The pickup also gets large air vents (with a honeycomb pattern),&nbsp;a folding console table, dual wireless charging pads, and an 8-speaker&nbsp;Harman Kardon sound system. Also, it promises 'best-in-segment' headroom, shoulder room, and second-row&nbsp;legroom as well as reclinable rear seats&nbsp;between 22 and 30 degrees. For safety, the vehicle benefits from an&nbsp;ADAS&nbsp;suite, which includes&nbsp;features like lane keep&nbsp;assist, blind spot collision warning,&nbsp;and remote parking.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Kia Tasman sits on&nbsp;the body-on-frame architecture, against Hyundai's unibody construction&nbsp;like&nbsp;the Kona and the Santa Cruz.&nbsp;The&nbsp;mid-size pickup will go against the Volkswagen Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and the&nbsp;Isuzu D-Max.&nbsp;</p>

<p>BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle (EV)&nbsp;maker,&nbsp;has unveiled its first-ever&nbsp;pickup truck, the Shark.&nbsp;While it is only available in Mexico for now, BYD plans to sell the Shark in other global markets (Brazil, Europe, and Australia) as well. The US is not on this list, meaning that the EV maker is not 'eyeing the US market',&nbsp;while also brushing aside the latest US tariff hikes on Chinese EVs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the recent unveiling, the BYD Shark joins other mid-sized pickup trucks in the segment, and its price starts at about&nbsp;$ 53,432 (roughly Rs 44.61 lakh) for the GL variant and goes up to&nbsp;$ 57,577 (roughly Rs 48 lakh) for the GS. It will directly rival the&nbsp;Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid, while also facing competition from the&nbsp;Toyota Hilux and Chevrolet S10. Speaking of plug-in hybrids, the Shark comes with a&nbsp;plug-in hybrid powertrain, which comprises a&nbsp;1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors (one on each axle) drawing power from BYD’s Blade battery.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The result is the combined power output of 424bhp+, which is good enough to propel the pickup from&nbsp;0 to 100km/h&nbsp;in 5.7 seconds. According to NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), the vehicle's electric-only range is rated at 100km, while the combined (petrol+electric) range stands at an impressive 840km.&nbsp;BYD says the plug-in-hybrid pickup can be charged to 80 per cent from 30 per cent in 20 minutes.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>BYD Shark: Dimensions, Design</h2>

<p>Dimensions-wise, the BYD Shark measures&nbsp;5,457mm long, 1,971mm wide, and 1,925mm tall,&nbsp;making it&nbsp;132mm longer, 71mm wider, and 110mm taller than the Toyota Hilux. BYD's pickup&nbsp;features&nbsp;a wheelbase of 3,260mm against&nbsp;the Hilux's 3,085mm. Based on the new body-on-frame platform which BYD calls DMO (dual-mode off-road), the Shark pickup has maximum payload and towing capacities&nbsp;of 835kg and 2,500kg, respectively.</p>

<p>Borrowing cues from the new&nbsp;Hyundai Santa Fe, the front end of the BYD Shark is marked by C-shaped LED daytime running lights connected with a&nbsp;full-width light bar, and a large BYD logo. At the back too, the Shark gets the connected lighting arrangement with the debossed&nbsp;BYD logo on the tailgate.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The feature list includes two digital screens (a 12.8-inch rotatable infotainment system and a 10.25-inch&nbsp;digital gauge cluster), wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto,&nbsp;six airbags, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera,&nbsp;a surround-view monitor, and&nbsp;50W wireless charger, among other things.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is no word on the BYD Shark pickup coming to the Indian market. Nevertheless, BYD is working toward bringing three other electric vehicles here. These could be the Tang,&nbsp;Seal U, and Sea Lion SUVs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hyundai unveiled&nbsp;the 2025 Santa Cruz Pickup at the 2024 New York International Auto Show.&nbsp;This marks&nbsp;the model's official global&nbsp;debut. Previously, the company&nbsp;hinted at the advent of the 2025 Santa Cruz and announced that it would make its premiere at this event.&nbsp;A&nbsp;redesigned&nbsp;exterior, a new dashboard layout, more safety and convenience features, and enhanced&nbsp;capability for the rugged&nbsp;XRT grade&nbsp;make up the primary&nbsp;highlights&nbsp;of the new-generation&nbsp;pickup. Additionally, two fresh&nbsp;paint jobs—Rockwood Green and Canyon Red—along with Medium Grey seating surfaces will be available.</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts on the occasion,&nbsp;Jose Munoz, President and Global COO, Hyundai Motor Company and President and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America said, "The development goal for freshening Santa Cruz was to give it an even bolder, stronger design. We also wanted Santa Cruz to be more capable, and the available XRT trim delivers all-terrain tyres, front tow hooks, and improved off-road capability. Customers are going to appreciate all the new design details and enhancements inside and out. Santa Cruz is a true sport adventure vehicle".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pickup vehicles are quite popular in the US, and Hyundai capitalised on this by releasing the Santa Cruz&nbsp;there in 2021. It was only natural for the firm to unveil the&nbsp;updated&nbsp;pickup truck along with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/2025-hyundai-tucson-revealed-at-new-york-international-auto-show-gets-updated-design-improved-adas-and-more-116625/">the revamped&nbsp;Tucson SUV&nbsp;at the show</a>&nbsp;as&nbsp;both of them&nbsp;share a platform.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz: Powertrain</h2>

<p>Mechanically, two&nbsp;engine options are available for the 2025 Santa Cruz Pickup: a 2.5-litre&nbsp;naturally aspirated (NA) petrol mill&nbsp;that generates 191bhp of maximum power&nbsp;and 245Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automated transmission. It has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs. The other&nbsp;engine comes in the form of&nbsp;a 2.5-litre&nbsp;TDGI unit,&nbsp;good enough to deliver&nbsp;281bhp of peak power&nbsp;and 421Nm of torque. It is coupled to an eight-speed DCT. It can pull up to 5,000 lbs.&nbsp;Both models will be equipped with all-wheel drive technology.</p>

<h2>2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz: Exterior Appearance</h2>

<p>The Korean automaker&nbsp;claims&nbsp;that to give the Santa Cruz a more aggressive appearance, its designers created a modified front end with a grille and fascia. As a result,&nbsp;the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/">car</a> also sports&nbsp;a wider stance than before. Moreover,&nbsp;there are&nbsp;new designs for the wheel patterns and daytime running lights.&nbsp;With its&nbsp;front and back fascia layouts,&nbsp;distinctive grille, front tow hooks, and unique 18-inch wheels with 245/60-size all-terrain tyres, the XRT trim&nbsp;is further set apart. According to Hyundai,&nbsp;the revised front fascia offers a greater approach angle.</p>

<h2>2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz: Features</h2>

<p>The new panoramic curved screen setup, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running the most recent Hyundai software, is similar to the new&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/tucson/">Tucson</a>'s interior. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. For easier use, real&nbsp;buttons and switches are used in place of all the touch-haptic centre stack controls. The company&nbsp;has&nbsp;revised the instrument panel, air vents, back seat armrest, and steering wheel as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In addition to this, plenty of&nbsp;new tech features on the pickup, which include a fingerprint scanner for car startup, Digital Key 2 tech (for using a phone as a key), infotainment that can receive over-the-air updates, more potent USB-C ports, and a new driver attention monitoring system, are also similar to those of the Tucson.</p>

<h2>2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz: Launch Timeline</h2>

<p>The 2025 Santa Cruz will arrive in US showrooms this summer. Pricing details will be officially revealed&nbsp;closer to the market launch. Given that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> did not launch&nbsp;the previous-generation Santa Cruz&nbsp;in the Indian market,&nbsp;it is unlikely that the 2025&nbsp;version will arrive here.&nbsp;</p>
