Truth be told, I didn’t expect to like the new 911 GTS ‘T-Hybrid.’ Not that I’ve ever driven a 911 I didn’t like (well, there was one – a 997.1 Cabrio with a Tiptronic gearbox, which felt a little soulless if I’m honest). But I assumed that the addition of hybrid tech would just add weight and complexity to what is otherwise a near perfect formula. Well (not for the first time), I was wrong!

The GTS is, in one word, incredible. Not only is it an incredible feat of engineering but also an incredible machine to be behind the wheel of. As always, Porsche has been very clever and innovative.

<h2>GTS for the WIN</h2>

Engine size has gone up from 3.0-litres to 3.6-litres for the flat-six, and twin-turbos have been shelved in favour of one larger, electrically assisted turbocharger. A wastegate has been tossed to allow the turbo, at high revs, to act as a generator and send power back to the small 1.9kWh battery that weighs under 30 kilograms and lives under the frunk (front trunk in ‘American-speak’). Meanwhile, an electric motor lives inside the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that supplements power when needed, especially at low revs.

All of this means that the weight penalty is minimal, with the GTS T-Hybrid weighing in at 1,675kgs, while the power, at more than 530 horses from the engine and electric motor combined, is stupendous. The end result is genius – it’s instant and endless speed – and the kicker is that all this trickery simply works to flatter the internal combustion engine and not detract from it. Plus, it also sounds good, which adds to the feeling of engagement. In most hybrids, you can sense the transition to-and-from electrical power, but since the electrical assist is there merely to supplement the 3.6-litre engine here, it remains under the radar but is supremely effective.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/06/Porsche-Experience-1-1749449822941.webp" alt="Porsche Experience-1.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">



And, finally, I was fretting about missing the analogue central tachometer – which has been a hallmark of the 911 for over 60 years – but the digital tach in the centre of the screen, which now makes up the entirety of the instrument cluster, does a good job of simulating the original and retaining that symbol of 911 heritage while being just as legible and perfectly positioned. All of this meant that, when I found myself chasing a GT3 RS around the BIC I was forced to back off on the straights because we were given strict instructions not to overtake – otherwise the GTS felt capable of not just keeping up with the GT3 but also eating it for breakfast on the straights. Lasty (I promise this is the final point), I thought the louvres in the front air dam would be a turn off, and, yes, they do take some getting used to but in the grey and black of our test car they really didn’t look bad at all. In fact, the GTS looks just about as purposeful, fetching and desirable as ever. So, it’s only fitting that it’s considerably better from the driver’s seat than the GTS it replaces.

 </div>And therein lies the beauty of the Porsche World Road Show India edition, it enables you to get behind the wheel of so many new cars in the Porsche range that it’s inevitably a revelation, and a day that I deeply look forward to every year. Of course, we also drove the GT3 RS once again and the 718 Spyder RS for the first time – although the latter was only on a very short slalom course – but the other car that drew my attention (and turned my stomach) was the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach pack.

<h2>Taycan Turbo GT Weissach Pack</h2>

Now, typically, I’m not that impressed by straight-line acceleration. I’m much more interested in the kind of cornering G’s that the GT3 offers, but once in a while a car resets the paradigm for what’s truly impressive in terms of outright speed and acceleration – and that’s where this particular Taycan comes in. <img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/06/Porsche-Experience-side-profile-dynamic-1749449893991.webp" alt="Porsche Experience-side-profile-dynamic.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">It accelerates from 0-100km/h faster than an F1 car. It achieves three-digit speeds in a mind numbing 2.2 seconds, while an F1 car takes almost half a second longer. Let that sink in – an electric, luxury, four-door sedan that accelerates faster than a Formula 1 car. And it doesn’t need a team of engineers to start it up.

 </div>The most impressive thing about the Taycan Turbo GT is that you can just jump in, hit the brake pedal to engage Launch Control and enjoy the sensation of your eyeballs popping out of your head. It really is that fast! Your stomach churns, your eyes struggle to keep pace, not just with not just how fast the scenery is suddenly moving but also the urgent velocity of your skull as it presses into the headrest. It genuinely feels like a roller coaster on four wheels!

But the kicker here, again, is Porsche engineering. Most EVs would pull off a full-bore acceleration run and then need to sit in the back of the garage to cool off and recharge before you can attempt to do it again, but not this Porsche. The Taycan Turbo GT can do this all day long, time and again, with no breaks in between – and all at an ambient temperature of 40-degrees no less.<img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/06/Porsche-Experience-Rear-Static-1749449988523.webp" alt="Porsche Experience-Rear-Static.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">

Then, there are the numbers. It produces over 1,000 horsepower and 1,200Nm of torque from the electric motors on its front and rear axles. And while it is technically a four-door sedan, the Weissach pack means that the rear seats have been tossed out for being too heavy and replaced with swathes of shiny carbon fibre instead – which makes the cabin look very purposeful indeed, if not entirely practical.

And, finally, there’s the Porsche Active ride technology, which is an amazing party trick. Not only does it ensure that there’s no squat or dive, but it also rises and drops instantly when you open or close the door – so that ingress and egress are made as easy as possible

I’ve always said that the Taycan feels like a paradigm shift, and, in Turbo GT form, it’s taken up another notch. I, for one, certainly won’t forget that acceleration run for a long time to come…

<h2>Playing in the mud</h2>

The Porsche World Road Show is more than just sports cars hurtling around a track, it also involves Porsche SUVs playing in the mud. <img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2025/06/Porsche-Experience-4-1749449998071.webp" alt="Porsche Experience-4.jpg" style="width: 100%; height: auto;">This is certainly not the image that comes to mind when you think of Porsche, but the fact is that the Cayenne, while being one of the most tarmac-friendly SUVs around, is actually quite a capable off-roader as well. What I take away from the Porsche World Road Show every year is the depth of Porsche engineering, and the ability of this engineering-focussed automaker to continue to surprise and impress. Porsche doesn’t do half measures or gimmicks, they only do engineering that’s ground-breaking and deeply impressive – which in turn enables them to build the most impressive machines on the planet. Period.

Porsche 911 GT-S T-Hybrid Driven at an F1 Race Track: Resetting the Goal Posts

The Porsche World Road Show is an annual event that resets the goal posts year-after-year, so what have those crazy engineers from Stuttgart gone and done now?

Porsche has launched&nbsp;the redesigned Cayenne GTS and Cayenne GTS coupe in India, priced at Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.01 crore, respectively. Both mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures. The Porsche models have finally arrived on our shores&nbsp;about three weeks after their&nbsp;global debut. The performance SUVs have received a series of technical and stylistic modifications, and they now produce significantly more&nbsp;power than their predecessors. In our market, the Porsche Cayenne GTS competes against the Audi RS Q8, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe, and&nbsp;Range Rover Sport.

<h2>Porsche Cayenne GTS, GTS Coupe: Exterior Elements</h2>

Subtle exterior changes to the Cayenne GTS and GTS Coupe include dark bronze exhaust tips, black finished&nbsp;components, and slightly tweaked front and rear ends. However, it continues to sport&nbsp;the HD Pixel LED headlamps. Additionally, the rear diffuser has a gloss-black finish. The car rolls on new alloy 21-inch RS Spyder wheels. It is claimed that one of the three options, the Sport Design package, can reduce the GTS's weight by up to 25 kg.

<h2>Porsche Cayenne GTS, GTS Coupe: Powertrain</h2>

The 4.0-litre&nbsp;twin-turbo V8 engine has been modified to produce a peak output of 493bhp&nbsp;and 660Nm on both variants, which is an increase of 40bhp&nbsp;and 40Nm from the previous model. Additionally, the 8-speed automatic transmission has been updated to provide faster shift times, especially in the Sport and Sport Plus drive modes.

The GTS now comes standard with adaptive&nbsp;air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. To&nbsp;enhance handling and agility, the performance SUV also gets a new axle pivot bearing for the front suspension, which is derived from the Cayenne Turbo GT.&nbsp;According to the German automaker, the GTS also has an improved all-wheel drive transfer box with a "water cooling circuit" that has been borrowed from the Turbo GT to help "stabilise continuous load capacity" while on a&nbsp;race track.

<h2>Porsche Cayenne GTS, GTS Coupe: Interior and Features</h2>

The interior of the Porsche Cayenne GTS and GTS Coupe features&nbsp;an 8-way power-adjustable GTS sport seat with raised&nbsp;side bolsters and a new GT sports steering wheel. Leather and Race-Tex materials have been&nbsp;used to decorate the cabin. Porsche additionally offers an optional GTS interior package&nbsp;that comes with red stitching on the dashboard's upper section, door panel armrests, centre&nbsp;console, and seats.

The Bose surround-sound sound, a panoramic glass roof,&nbsp;and ambient interior lighting are standard, while the new 10.9-inch front passenger screen is an optional extra.

<h2>2025 Porsche Cayenne GTS: Expected Price</h2>

The new Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Coupe GTS&nbsp;will likely retail for about Rs 2.5 crore. It is expected to&nbsp;go on sale in India in the middle of 2024. The current prices for the Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe stand at&nbsp;Rs 1.36 crore and Rs 1.42 crore, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne GTS's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has been tweaked to produce 40bhp and 40Nm more than before. The current peak power and torque output corresponds to 493bhp and 660Nm, respectively.

I’m fortunate to own what is widely believed to be one of the greatest SUVs of all time – an 80 Series Land Cruiser from the mid-90s. It’s got an engine block the size of a small hatchback, a steering box that’s less responsive than tugging at the reins of a horse cart and handling to match. But it’s also indestructible, will take you to the ends of the earth and make you feel like the King of the world when you’re behind the wheel. Iconic? Sure. Sporty? Not in a million years.

You see, its ladder frame reveals that it’s more closely related to a Tata 407 than a Porsche Boxster. But the advent of the monocoque chassis SUV changed the game completely. It led to the development of models like the Porsche Cayenne, which – despite being very capable off-road – really did (and continues to) drive like a true Porsche. The success of the Cayenne almost singlehandedly rescued the brand and allowed it to continue to make one of the most iconic sports cars ever – the 911. Even Ferrari, with the Purosangue, has jumped onto the bandwagon – although even uttering the phrase SUV is likely to get you banned from Maranello.

Recently, to celebrate 60 years of Ferrari’s greatest rival, and next-door neighbour, Lamborghini, I got the chance to chase down a Huracan super sports car through the hills of Tuscany in an Urus Performante. 657 horsepower and scalpel-sharp handling meant that keeping up with perhaps the greatest analogue supercar on sale today was no problem at all, and it perfectly exemplified just how far “SUVs” have come.

But a sporty SUV isn’t unique to the most stratospheric end of the automotive spectrum, it’s now more mainstream then ever – as demonstrated by <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/maruti-suzuki-jimny-vs-hyundai-venue-n-line-vs-kia-seltos-vs-volkswagen-taigun-best-drivers-suv-in-rs-20-lakh-114699/">our cover story</a>. After all, SUV sales now make up almost 50% of the Indian market, of which compact SUVs are by far the most popular.

Now the Jimny may not be based on a monocoque but it remains pure entertainment in a compact and rather attainable package. The trio it's pitted against here are all car-based compact SUVs that have driving dynamics more tailored to the boy racer than the Himalayan adventurer.

autoX Awards 2023: Those old enough will remember that when the Cayenne made its debut over 20 years ago, it was considered a sacrilege by many, especially Porsche enthusiasts. The idea of a revered carmaker responsible for some of the most desirable sports cars in the world building an SUV was nothing short of blasphemy, at least for snooty collectors and enthusiasts. However, with the advantage of hindsight, it indeed was a brilliant move by the company, which significantly reshaped its profile, expanding its capabilities, facilitating investments in new technology, and enabling the creation of even more exciting cars. The Cayenne quickly became the largest-selling Porsche in the world at the time, outselling its sportscar sibling by a huge margin, but also the largest-selling Porsche of all time. What made it such a remarkable success? Undoubtedly, the fact that it was an engineering marvel. It’s no surprise, then, that the Cayenne is one of the most coveted SUVs in the world.

Over the years, the design of the Cayenne has evolved, and I must say that the current-generation Cayenne looks quite handsome. Elements like the full-width taillight, 3D Porsche lettering at the back, and an aggressive front further add to its aesthetic appeal and give it a terrific road presence. That said, to truly make the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/porsche/cayenne/">Porsche Cayenne</a> stand out, you do need to spec it with a large set of wheels and consider a bright colour scheme.

Inside, you are greeted by the traditional Porsche feel of terrific build quality and meticulous attention to detail – everything here feels solid and works just like you expect it to. Even in terms of space, the Cayenne is spacious enough for five adults and has a pretty large boot. Its commendable ground clearance further adds to its practicality.

If we were to pick a point of contention, the Cayenne felt a little sluggish, compared to the EVs in our test, in terms of power delivery, resulting in a marginally slower performance on the track than the C40. Along with this, the only other reason that the Cayenne didn’t win this year was its steep starting price of ₹1.35 crores – pretty high for its segment, I’d say – which can easily surpass ₹2 crores for a well-specced version. And while it’s a remarkable SUV, it’s by no means a value-for-money proposition. Had it not been for its exorbitant price, I would safely say the Cayenne is one of my favourite SUVs in the world.

The 2024 Cayenne S E-Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine from Porsche that generates 343bhp and an electric motor that generates 172bhp, for a combined system output of 505bhp as well as 750Nm of peak torque.&nbsp;The electric motor is driven by a 25.9kWh battery and an 11 kW onboard AC charger, allowing the car to be charged in around 2.5 hours using a standard Level 2 charger. According to the company, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 263km/h.&nbsp;

The 911 may very well be the poster child&nbsp;of Porsche, but it’s the Cayenne that’s the company’s cash cow and a true breadwinner of the family. Want proof? More than 30% of all the Porsches sold today are the high-riding Cayennes and not 911s as you would like to imagine. As a matter of fact, Porsche has shipped and sold more than one million Cayennes across the globe in just two decades of the SUV’s existence – a feat that took nearly six decades for the mighty 911 to accomplish.&nbsp;

Not only does the Cayenne keep the cash registers at Stuttgart ringing, but the revenue it generates also helps fuel the development of new 911s, GT3RS, GT4s, and what have you. So, its success matters all the more to Porsche and its lovers.

For 2023, Porsche has refreshed the Cayenne so that it can, um, sell in even larger numbers and be an even bigger success. However, this isn’t an all-new Cayenne – it will only happen in 2026 with a fully electric version. So, for the time being, Porsche has given the Cayenne a mid-life shot in the arm. That said, Porsche says that it is one of the biggest and most extensive product upgrades in the history of the brand. Well, is it? We put the new Cayenne through its paces in the beautiful settings of Meghalaya to get you the answer.

<h2>2023 Porsche Cayenne: What’s New?</h2>

Well, not much has changed on the outside. Apart from a new front end with Taycan-like LED headlamps, larger air intakes, bigger 20-inch rims (standard) – earlier, they were 19 inches – and a redesigned rear section with seamless LED taillamps, it is very much the same Cayenne as the model it replaces. It does&nbsp;look quite handsome and sporty though, no doubt.

Changes inside, on the other hand, are more prominent – in fact, it gets an all-new interior, which has been lifted directly from the Taycan’s assembly line. The dash features a curved 12.6-inch digital driver display, replacing the analogue tach of the outgoing model, and the new 12.3-inch touchscreen is crisp and intuitive to operate. Passengers who love fighting for the shotgun seat have one more reason to do so, as there is now an entertainment (third) display on offer, mounted directly in front – although it’s a Rs 1.5-lakh optional extra. And don’t worry, the driver can’t see what’s been played on the display, as there’s a special foil to block the view.

Among other changes, the gear selector has moved to the dashboard and there’s a start/stop button – no twisting the Porsche key anymore. Also, the steering wheel is now thin-rimmed, much like the one in the 911 and Taycan. You also get a new drive selector switch on the steering to flick through the four modes on offer – Off-Road, Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus.

Everything you touch and feel oozes high quality, and the fit-and-finish levels are extraordinary. At the back, it has acres of room, and it feels every bit as luxurious as a Rs 1.5 crore SUV is supposed to feel. That said, most of the kit on our test car was not ‘standard’. The two-tone leather interior you see here for instance costs Rs 8 lakh extra, and the Bose sound system adds another Rs 2.80 lakh, while the soft-close door function is for Rs 1.46 lakh. Similarly, the panoramic sunroof is an option that costs over Rs 4 lakh! And there’s no end to this, for the sky is the limit when you’re speccing a Porsche. The Carmine Red shade&nbsp;(Rs 4.95 lakh extra for that) gracing the pictures&nbsp;you see here had options worth Rs 40 lakh, which jacked up the final ex-showroom price to Rs 1.76 crore!&nbsp;Now, while mere mortals are likely to lose their minds upon hearing these so-called hidden costs, Porsche India says that it’s quite normal for their average buyer to spend that kind of moolah on these options. No sweat then…

<h2>2023 Porsche Cayenne Engine &amp; Gearbox: V6 for One &amp; All</h2>

For India, Porsche has decided to continue with the tried-and-tested 3.0-litre V6 petrol for the new Cayenne, which is the sole engine option in the country. This means that there’s no V8 or plug-in hybrid on offer – at least for the time being. Except for a little gain in terms of power and torque (+13bhp and +50Nm, respectively), it’s the same engine as the one powering the outgoing model. The total power output stands at 348bhp, while the peak torque is 500Nm. Transmission duties are taken care of by an 8-speed automatic (torque converter), which sends the drive to all four wheels.

At idle, this V6 motor is as loud as a monk’s hum, which is to say that it’s super silent – almost electric-car quiet, almost. On the move, too, you won’t hear the engine make its presence felt or realise that there are moving components under the bonnet – it is as if this Cayenne runs on whipped cream. Although, a lot of it is also down to the impeccable noise insulation of the cabin.

As for its performance, the Cayenne gets off the line briskly. Porsche claims that it can do the 0 – 100km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds, and I have no reason to dispute this claim, given how ferociously it accelerated even on the country’s wettest roads during our drive.&nbsp;The only time where you can catch this drivetrain sort of napping is when you ask for a quick overtake. You’ll notice that the gearbox is a bit hesitant to downshift, which results in a momentary pause in the proceedings. Having said that, the gear changes are seamless, and just like the engine, the transmission is a silky-smooth operator.

The engine also doesn’t shy away from being stretched all the way up to its 6,500rpm redline – and, yes, the 8-speed torque converter does hold gears in manual mode. This is also the only time when you get to hear some mechanical noises inside the cabin – the whole driving experience is quite muted otherwise. You can fix this, though, with another…drumroll…optional extra – a Sport Exhaust, which costs around Rs 6 lakh! But, it doesn’t produce the kind of fruity exhaust noises you would expect. It barely tickles your senses.

<h2>2023 Porsche Cayenne Ride &amp; Handling: Go Full Stuttgart!</h2>

The engine performance may leave you wanting more, but when it comes to the driving dynamics, the new Cayenne – even in its base version – is a phenomenon!

The India-spec Cayenne gets air suspension as standard. Porsche says that a lot of work has gone into recalibrating the suspension setup of the new Cayenne to make it more comfortable. However, at the same time, it hasn’t been turned into a softy – in fact, Porsche also claims that&nbsp;the handling has been improved further. So, how has it been done? According to Porsche, they have accomplished all this by increasing the range between different driving modes. As in, the ride quality is now plusher in Normal mode than the outgoing version, whereas the handling is tauter in Sport and Sport + modes as compared to earlier. And, after driving the Cayenne for over two days – on good, bad, and ugly roads – I couldn’t agree more!

Common sense will have you believe that the Cayenne is the least sporty and most comfortable Porsche in the family, which it is, and the new one is only better in this regard. Be it bumps, potholes, ruts, or any imperfection on the road, the Cayenne kind of flattens everything that comes its way. It doesn’t clunk through potholes, and there's no firm edge in the way it absorbs bumps. What’s even more remarkable is the fact that the Cayenne I was driving was shod with the optional 21-inch alloys (Rs 5.82 lakh extra, by the way!), and yet it just glided over every surface. And then when you put it in Sport Plus, it simply switches personalities – &nbsp;from Bruce Wayne to Batman real quick. From a posh luxury SUV to an apex-sniffing superhero, that is. In short, it goes full Stuttgart!

The body control gets tighter, and there’s virtually no roll. It corners flat as if it’s on rails, while the steering is precise&nbsp;and drips with feel. Grip levels? Simply mind-boggling! Try as you might, you will still struggle to hear the tyres protest, let alone break traction. You can’t get this thing out of shape until you turn the electronics off or do something really, really silly. What’s even more remarkable is the fact that even in its sportiest setting, the suspension somehow manages to take everything in its stride without sending shock waves through your spine. I mean, how Porsche does what Porsche does is unfathomable to me, honestly.

<h2>Verdict</h2>

Come to think of it, there’s absolutely nothing that the new Cayenne can’t do. Sports car handling? Check. Luxury SUV-like comfort? Check. Go off-road? Check (if the owner is brave enough). Cutting-edge tech and opulent interior? Check. Cost you a bomb and then some? Hell&nbsp;yes!&nbsp;

In short, the Cayenne is as complete as a luxury SUV can ever get. Personally, I feel this whole experience can't be topped by any other luxury SUV in the same price bracket. Not to mention, what we are witnessing here is the peak Cayenne moment. It's&nbsp;a true Super SUV as its maker claims. If you have the means, go get one before it all goes quiet!&nbsp;
