<p>Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa is on a winning streak in Formula E, taking two races in a row at Portland. Driving for Porsche, he's crushed the competition lately, taking four out of the last five races. This hot streak comes at a bad time for championship leader Nick Cassidy, who surprisingly didn't score points in either Portland race. Cassidy's lead has shrunk dramatically, dropping from 35 points to just 12. Other drivers like Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein are also closing the gap, making the title fight wide open. Even Oliver Rowland, who missed the Portland races due to illness, is still in the running. The team championship is heating up too, with Porsche quickly catching Jaguar. While Jaguar still holds the lead with a record-breaking season total of 322 points, their advantage has shrunk to just 33 points.</p>

<h2>2024 Formula E Portland E-Prix: Round 13 Result</h2>

<p>Antonio Felix da Costa secured his third victory in the last four races in the chaotic opening race of the Portland E-Prix double-header. The Porsche driver initially finished second but was awarded the win after Mitch Evans, who crossed the line first, received a five-second penalty for colliding with Jake Hughes. Evans was frustrated, believing the contact with the McLaren driver at high speed was unavoidable.</p>

<p>The penalty dropped Evans to eighth, promoting Robin Frijns and Jean-Eric Vergne up the order. Despite this, Evans managed to reduce his championship deficit to Nick Cassidy, who spun out of the lead on the penultimate lap. Another title contender, Pascal Wehrlein, finished in P10 but remains under investigation.</p>

<p>Antonio Felix da Costa also dominated the second round of the Portland E-Prix with another win, making it two in a row. <p>Da Costa's recent hot streak is hard to ignore - four wins in the last five races! He's joined on the podium by Robin Frijns and Mitch Evans, but Pascal Wehrlein is also breathing down their necks in fourth. With five drivers still in the running, the Formula E championship is wide open, and London promises an epic finale.</p>


Formula E Portland E-Prix: Da Costa Wins Rounds 13 and 14; Closes Championship Gap to Cassidy

Antonio Felix da Costa's back-to-back victories in the 2024 Formula E Portland E-Prix put him in title contention as championship leader Nick Cassidy failed to score points.

<p>After installing an RFID reader at the pit door during &nbsp;Formula E qualifying round in Portland, Oregon, the DS Penske team was penalised EUR 25,000 by the FIA stewards for trying to gain an unfair advantage over the other teams. In addition, Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Éric Vergne, the team's drivers, were both given a pit lane start penalty. In the initial form of the fine notice, it stated that the technology in issue could "collect live data from all cars"; however, in the revised version, the statement "concerning the tyres fitted by scanning the bar codes" was omitted. After seeing DS Penske employees affixing the device this morning, an FIA official reportedly informed the FIA technical delegate. Formula E will use the new "Gen 3" vehicle design and Hankook iON tyres beginning with the 2023 season.</p>

<h2>Formula E: Why was DS Penske Penalised?</h2>

<p>The penalty bulletin said that competitors were initially prohibited from generally installing or placing any equipment in the pitlane and that data collecting via this manner would offer the competition a lot of information, which is a substantial and unfair advantage.</p>

<p>In recent races, the FIA has announced a number of specific adjustments to sports laws pertaining to the placing of tyres in and near pit boxes. The goal of these explanations is to eliminate the need for cooling and preparation of tyres by means other than those specified.</p>

<p>It is also against the rules for teams to install or position any equipment on the circuit during official practice sessions. Although RFID tracking is standard practise in several series, it seems to be a first for Formula E.</p>

<p>Vergne had the better race out of the two DS Penske drivers, who both benefited from two safety car periods in the first part of the race to make up ground after starting from the pit lane. With a couple of laps remaining, the French driver was in fourth place until falling behind due to an off-track excursion, while Vandoorne struggled throughout the whole 32-lap race and ended up with his poorest result since the Diriyah races in January.</p>

<p>Vandoorne said that the team's decision to start from the pitlane had little impact on the outcome since their competitors were unable to jump out to an early lead because of the severe need to save energy.</p>

<h2>Nick Cassidy Repeats as 2023 Formula E Portland E-Prix Champion</h2>

<p>Nick Cassidy of Envision Racing put on a sensational performance in the first ever Portland E-Prix, winning by a very close margin for the forth time this season. The New Zealander did very well, climbing all the way to first place in Oregon from tenth on the starting grid. Championship opponent Jake Dennis of Avalanche Andretti came in second to Cassidy. Cassidy is currently second in the Drivers standings, one point behind Dennis, while TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein has dropped to third.</p>

<p>The New Zealander Cassidy took the lead many times throughout the race. Cassidy executed the decisive move on Lap 28, only a few circuits after the Portuguese driver Da Costa had seized the lead. Cassidy seized the lead on Lap 3, and despite constant pressure from Da Costa, who had started seventh, he held on until the checkered flag.</p>

After DS Penske was found guilty of obtaining an unfair and substantial advantage in Saturday's race, both Vandoorne and teammate Jean-Eric Vergne were penalised by having to start the race from the pitlane.

<p>Nick Cassidy of Envision Racing put on a stunning effort in the inaugural race of Portland E-Prix to win his third race of the season. The New Zealander performed well, moving up from tenth on the grid to claim victory in Oregon. Jake Dennis of Avalanche Andretti, a rival for the championship, finished second to Cassidy. With this win, Cassidy moves up to second in the Drivers' standings, trailing only Dennis by one point; Pascal Wehrlein of TAG Heuer Porsche now sits in third. For the majority of the race, drivers spread out up to five in width on the main straight, braked early into corners, avoided full throttle, switched to early attack modes to try to drop positions, weaved to break the slipstream of pursuers. It was like a NASCAR race with a restrictor plate, only on a road track with single-seaters. The official tally for Formula E's 32-lap distance recorded 403 passing manoeuvres.</p>

<h2>Formula E Portland E-Prix: Race Result</h2>

<p>Cassidy raced with precision, beginning in tenth place on the grid as the 22-car field battled for victory over the course of the race's 32 laps. For the first time, the prestigious Portland International Raceway hosted the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and the unusual balancing act between energy conservation and raw performance was on full display. From the first lap on, it was obvious that the race would be a strategic war for first place.</p>

<p>Several times throughout the race, New Zealander Cassidy was in the lead. However, on Lap 28, just a few laps after Portuguese driver Da Costa had taken the lead, Cassidy made the key pass and won the race. On Lap 3, Cassidy took the lead, and he stayed there until the chequered flag under heavy pressure from Da Costa, who had started in eighth place.</p>

<h2>Formula E Portland E-Prix: DS Penske Using RFID Scanner</h2>

<p>A record penalty has been handed down to the DS Penske Formula E team for their usage of illegally installed equipment. The team was fined EUR 25,000 and had to start Saturday's Portland E-Prix from the pit lane when the RFID scanning equipment was discovered. The drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne, were also penalised for the incident.</p>

<p>On Saturday morning, before the second weekend practise session, the scanner was mounted at the pit lane entrance. The FIA claims that using this technology would violate both the technical and sporting rules since it might be used to gather live data from all vehicles.</p>
