<p>Fabio Quartararo voiced his displeasure with Yamaha's 2024 MotoGP bike after the Qatar Grand Prix, pointing out that the Japanese manufacturer is far behind its rivals. Due to the M1 bike's inadequacy in improving upon its predecessor, Yamaha experienced their first winless campaign in MotoGP in 20 years last season. There has been little improvement for Yamaha in 2024 despite the fact that they have received concessions and have recruited new engineering talent from competing teams. The 2021 world champion Quartararo had a rough race due to issues, most notably tyre wear, which he thought would hurt his performance and ended up finishing in a dismal eleventh place. Even teammate Alex Rins had a rough go of it in his Yamaha debut, ending in sixteenth place. Quartararo was very forthright in his evaluation of Yamaha's present predicament, which showed how unhappy he was with the Japanese company's results.</p>

<p>After the first race, Yamaha racer Quartararo said: "It is what it is. This is when you really see the difference in how people work really hard and we are still very, very far from them. So of course it's really difficult because I know my potential and I know where I can be."</p>

<p>"We are further last year. We have improved a little bit, but they are even faster. They are even better and faster than last year. So the gap between all the European manufacturers and us is bigger. Even to Honda, I felt that today we were missing something. They are also struggling a lot, but I felt like we were even worse today," he added.</p>

<p>Not seeing any major improvements from Japanese manufacturers&nbsp;in <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/motogp-qatar-gp-bagnaia-wins-first-race-as-acosta-and-marquez-take-center-stage-116429/">the 2024 Qatar GP</a> was discouraging, to say the least. Given the upgrades Honda made to their bikes this season, it was thought that they would do better than Yamaha, even though Yamaha was expected to show some progress. Regardless, Fabio Quartararo proved his mettle as a rider by defeating his Japanese competitors in the Sprint and the main event. But this success is more a reflection of his skills than of the technology.</p>

MotoGP: Quartararo Says Yamaha 'Far from Top' from Rivals Post Qatar GP

<p>The highly anticipated first race of the 2024 MotoGP season was held at Qatar's Losail International Circuit and did not disappoint. Much like the Moto3 race before, the start of the MotoGP race was delayed. Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez had trouble with his year-old RS-GP, after the warm-up lap. As a result, there was another warm-up lap and the race distance was reduced by one lap resulting in a 21-lap race. In the end, it was reigning World Champion Francesco Bagnaia who not only took the race win but also took hold of the top spot in this year’s Riders’ Championship. The second and third place in the race and the Riders' standing were taken by Brad Binder and Jorge Martin, respectively.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Qatar GP: Marquez vs Acosta&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Beginning in the second row, Marc Marquez made a daring move to pass Jack Miller and Enea Bastianini, securing fourth place. At the same time, Pedro Acosta demonstrated his speed by quickly passing Fabio Di Giannantonio and Aleix Espargaro farther down the circuit. Acosta secured sixth place by passing Bastianini at the conclusion of lap three, and Martin secured second place by doing the same thing a few turns later on Brad Binder.</p>

<p>Acosta doggedly pursued the eight-time world champion, Marc Marquez, even though Marquez had trouble keeping up with the leading trio. On lap eight, Binder made a move on Martin to take the lead after <a href="https://www.autox.com/motorsport-news/motogp-francesco-bagnaia-to-continue-with-ducati-until-2026-signs-multi-year-extension-deal-116369/">Bagnaia's lead</a> had grown to more than half a second. By lap nine, Bagnaia had accelerated enough to close the one-second gap. In response, Martin took back his position from Binder on the first turn.</p>

<p>The next lap saw a change of second place as Binder passed Martin on the run-in to turn one. Acosta successfully passed Marc Marquez at turn one on lap 12, after they had maintained their positions for several laps. This allowed Acosta to launch a bid for fourth place. On lap 14, Acosta made a mistake that cost him the place, and Marc Marquez took over. With seven laps to go, Acosta had fallen farther and lower in the standings, and he was now third behind Alex Marquez and Bastianini.</p>

<p>In the battle for third, Marc Marquez rapidly closed back in on Martin but the Pramac rider instead gained time on Binder as he eventually dropped the Gresini rider.</p>

<p>What is disappointing to see is that the Japanese manufacturers have not made a significant step forward. While that was expected somewhat of Yamaha, I was expecting something more from Honda after all the updates they brought to their bikes this year. Fabio Quartararo managed to finish ahead of any other rider on a Japanese machine in both the Sprint and main race. But that is a testament to his riding skills and not the capability of the machine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Sunday, the Yamaha MotoGP team's Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins voiced their doubts about the competitiveness of their Yamaha M1 machines. Not only does this shared fear affect the riders personally, but it also casts a bleak light on Yamaha's hopes of rescuing their performance at the Qatar Grand Prix.</p>

<p>The two Japanese manufacturers who are lagging behind their <a href="https://www.autox.com/interviews/massimo-rivola-interview-we-proved-that-aprilia-can-beat-ducati-in-motogp-116411/">European counterparts </a>have failed to make substantial progress in the field, despite making substantial alterations to their motorcycles.&nbsp;</p>


MotoGP Qatar GP: Bagnaia Wins First Race as Acosta and Marquez Take Center Stage

Francesco Bagnaia, the defending World Champion, won the opening Qatar GP. Brad Binder and Jorge Martin finished second and third in the race and Riders' standing.

<p>The upcoming event at Lusail marks the 22nd Grand Prix since its inclusion in the calendar back in 2004, with an impressive 18 races happening in the night. Until 2022, the Qatar GP served as the first race of the season. It was moved later in the schedule last year because the track underwent renovations, but it is back as the season opener this year with a renovated paddock and improved facilities.</p>

<p>Ducati is the clear favourite at the world-famous Losail International Circuit after displaying dominant performances in preseason testing in Qatar and Malaysia. Marc Marquez's debut with the Italian squad, following his departure from Honda with a year remaining on his contract, is adding to the excitement. Fans of MotoGP are becoming itchy to see the exciting season opener at Lusail, where the beautiful new infrastructure will serve as a backdrop.</p>

<h2>MotoGP: Marc Marquez</h2>

<p>Marquez hasn't won a race since 2021, when he was riding a bike that could have challenged for the championship had his right arm been in good working order. Last year, the RC213V failed to impress, and the first 2024 prototype that was handed to him at the post-race Misano test in September failed to inspire any optimism. In the event that Marc Marquez takes home the chequered flag, he will have gone 868 days since his previous Grand Prix victory.</p>

<h2>MotoGP: Yamaha and Qatar</h2>

Just one race, the 2021/2 Doha GP, was won by Fabio Quartararo at Lusail, racing in MotoGP. Quartararo began the 2019 MotoGP season in the pit lane after a grid stall, but he still managed to finish sixteenth. In 2023, he came in seventh.</p>

<p>While his new teammate Alex Rins has only ever finished third in Moto3 in Qatar in 2013. He was the 2014 Moto3 race pole sitter. His highest MotoGP finish in Qatar was fourth in 2019 and 2021–22, both with Suzuki.</p>

<h2>MotoGP: Honda and Qatar</h2>

<p>There have been seven MotoGP wins for Ducati in Qatar with four riders. If at least one Ducati places in the top three, it will be the 61st race in a row that a Ducati rider has started on the front row, dating back to Valencia 2020. Francesco Bagnaia has finished in third place four times at Lusail. In 2018, he won Moto2 and went on to win the title. Enea Bastianini, who races with Bagnaia in the Ducati Lenovo Team, has been on the podium three times at Lusail and won in 2022.</p>

<h2>MotoGP: Aprilia and Qatar</h2>

<p>For Aprilia, their best MotoGP result in Qatar was P4 with Aleix Espargaro (2022). Maverick Vinales has three wins at Lusail, including a MotoGP win in both 2017 (from pole), his first race with Yamaha, and in 2021/1. He finished P4 in 2023, equalling Aprilia’s best result from Aleix Espargaro in 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>MotoGP: KTM and Qatar</h2>

MotoGP Qatar GP Stats: Which Manufacturers and Riders Have Dominated Most?

The first race of the 2024 MotoGP season takes place at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. There are a lot of riders and bikes, so here are all the important statistics and numbers.

<p>In a thrilling Qatar MotoGP race, Fabio Di Giannantonio emerged as the victor, navigating through a challenging field while Jorge Martin suffered a setback, relinquishing crucial points to championship leader Francesco Bagnaia. Di Giannantonio spent most of the 22-lap show following Bagnaia, and a crucial "mapping 8" message appeared on his dashboard, suggesting a possible team order from Ducati. The Italian rider, however, showed off incredible skill by making a game-changing pass at Turn 12 on lap 19. When Bagnaia went off at Turn 1 while trying to make up ground, it only helped him.</p>

<p>Bagnaia finished in second place, but this increased his championship lead to 21 points from seven. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin struggled throughout the race on his Pramac Ducati, ultimately placing 10th. The race was made even more exciting by Luca Marini of VR46 Ducati, who started on the pole and finished third.</p>

<p>In the face of uncertainty regarding his MotoGP future—he has no ride booked for 2024—Fabio Di Giannantonio showed tenacity by working his way through the field, passing the reigning champion, and taking the lead by an impressive 2.7 seconds.</p>

<h2>MotoGP Qatar GP: Losail Race Result</h2>

<p>Marini, Alex Marquez, and Brad Binder engaged in a tense battle for third place. Despite some early difficulties, Marini was able to finish third, ahead of Marquez in fourth and Binder in fifth. Following closely on his heels were Fabio Quartararo, Enea Bastianini, and Maverick Vinales, who eventually passed the lagging Jorge Martin.</p>

<p>Martin faced more difficulties and barely held onto the final top-10 position, fighting hard with Marc Marquez, who also had a difficult race. Teammate Johann Zarco was somewhat forgiving of Martin.</p>

<p>During the entire 22-lap race, only two riders dropped out. After only six laps, Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia called it a day because he was still recovering from a small ankle fracture he sustained in a multi-bike collision that also ended Miguel Oliveira's 2023 season. Iker Lecuona, filling in for LCR Honda, also had problems on the opening lap.</p>

Both riders got off to strong starts in the race, and Martin took a risk by going inside Bagnaia, which led to a slight touchas they approached turn one. From the starting line, Luca Marini took the lead, followed by Alex Marquez. Fabio Di Giannantonio, riding the slowest-starting Ducati, fell from second to sixth place. Lap two brought more action and another contact as Martin made a daring move on Bagnaia to take third position. The current world champion, meanwhile, fell to fourth place, behind Di Giannantonio. Alex Marquez tried to overtake the lead position up front, but Marini fought back fiercely to keep it.</p>

<p>Bagnaia was forced to settle for a subdued performance, as the points leader was powerless to prevent Alex Marquez from closing the gap and instead had to focus on keeping Maverick Vinales, riding for Aprilia, from taking fifth place.</p>

<p>Brad Binder of KTM, Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha, and Augusto Fernandez of Tech3 Gas Gas took the final sprint points. Marc Marquez finished in 11th place after being pushed out of the way by Binder and then making a mistake on Turn 1. He was still, however, six places and nearly 10 seconds up on the next-best Honda rider - LCR Honda stand-in Iker Lecuona.</p>

After Morbidelli passed Espargaro on Turn 5, Espargaro tried to pass him again on Turn 6. This is when the two racers collided. However, the two riders clashed during the manoeuvre, sending both to run wide at Turn 6. Espargaro became agitated and smacked Morbidelli on the head. The investigation by the FIM MotoGP stewards resulted in a fine of 10,000 euros and a six-place grid penalty for Espargaro in the Qatar Grand Prix. Due to the on-track incident, the officials felt it necessary to award the penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.</p>

<p>Aleix Espargaro's punishment was explained by the Stewards as follows:</p>

<p>'On 18" November 2023 at 15;07:19 during QATAR AIRWAYS GRAND PRIX OF QATAR Free Practice 2 session you were observed to have behaved in an aggressive manner including physically striking number 21.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This contravenes Article 3.3.2.2 of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations "any corrupt or fraudulent act, or any action of prejudicial to the interests of the meetings or of the sport, carried out by a person or a group of persons occurring during an event". It is therefore an infringement of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations, being detrimental to the interest of the sport.</p>

<p>"For the above reasons, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has imposed a fine of 10,000 Euros and 6 Grid Positions penalty for the MotoGP QATAR AIRWAYS GRAND PRIX OF QATAR MotoGP Race."</p>

<p>Lecuona, cruising on the track, impeded Ducati works rider Enea Bastianini during a crucial Q1 lap that could have secured the latter a spot in Q2.
