When it comes to the world of motorcycling, one often overlooked piece of gear is the communications system. Having used several over the years, I can say from experience that the peace of mind and convenience they offer are truly unmatched. That said, finding a high-quality mesh intercom unit hasn’t always been easy. Thanks to a new partnership between two well-respected names in their respective fields – Royal Enfield and Sena—that’s all about to change. The result of this collaboration is the Sena 50S, available on the Royal Enfield website, for a retail price of Rs 35,990.Now, on to the device itself. The standout feature for me is the sound quality – both from the speakers and the microphone. During my tests, whether on regular or WhatsApp calls, no one I spoke to could tell I was riding a two-wheeler, even at fairly high speeds. The audio performance is powered by Harman Kardon, which, as always, sounds fantastic. While I typically ride solo and didn’t use this feature extensively, given Sena’s reputation, I can confidently say that the group communication experience will be just as solid. The large jog dial makes answering and disconnecting calls effortless and intuitive, and the same goes for adjusting the volume on the move, even with gloves on. The only downside I encountered was the firmware update process. The device refused to connect with my Mac, even when using the original cable. Thankfully, I was able to update it via the mobile app. Speaking of which, if you use a phone mount, the app’s wide array of controls unlocks a whole new level of functionality, making the device even more versatile.As for charging the device, thanks to the USB-C port, finding replacement cables won’t be a problem if you misplace the one in the box. Battery life is decent, nothing exceptional, but sufficient for most rides. A particularly thoughtful feature is the ‘ambient mode’ button on the helmet mount. Royal Enfield Adventurer XT Riding Gear Collection Launched in India

Royal Enfield has introduced the Adventurer XT riding gear collection in India, which includes a jacket priced at Rs 24,950 and pants at Rs 15,950.

You’ve probably seen MotoGP riders sporting KYT helmets and thought, "One day, I'll save enough to get one too." Maybe you’ve even read our review of the NZ-Race or R2R Pro helmets from the brand. While these are more affordable than the ones worn by professionals, they’re still a bit beyond reach for those just getting into riding. Fear not, for KYT has addressed this with the Striker – their entry-level helmet designed to bring smart, stylish protection to the masses.

First off, the Striker looks, well… striking (pun absolutely intended). Available in several colour options – my review unit was black and blue, well, primarily black with blue and neon green highlights. I can’t overstate how sharp and aggressive it looks. Full marks for the graphics, material quality, and paint finish. In addition to the KYT logo in English, the helmet also features the brand name in Japanese on the sides. The dark visor complements the overall design, and I had no trouble using it during an evening ride. The large field of view ensures you won’t have any issues while riding in the city. My only gripe is that KYT didn’t include a retractable sunshade, as some other manufacturers do but you can wear sunglasses with it.

In terms of safety, the Striker only gets an ISI 4151:2015 certification. Some may be disappointed that it doesn’t carry ECE or DOT certification, but for everyday riding, this helmet will keep you perfectly safe. The shell is made from what KYT calls ‘advanced thermoplastics,’ which is claimed to offer high crash resistance. The double D-ring mechanism further ensures the helmet stays securely fastened in the event of an impact.

Initially, I wasn’t fond of the internal padding, particularly around the cheeks, as it felt a bit thin but certainly not uncomfortable. Weighing at around 1.5kg, the helmet is light enough for daily use and features plenty of ventilation ducts to keep things cool. It fits snugly without feeling overly tight. There are a number of vents around the helmet that can be opened for better air circulation and even after riding on some hot days, I did not feel stuffy inside the Striker. However, this unit is not great at eliminating wind noise at highway speeds. You will not encounter the issue when ambling around in the city thankfully.

What’s truly impressive is the price – just ₹5,950, or ₹5,750 if you go for the simpler matte finish models. At this price, you get a quality helmet that certainly grabs attention. It doesn't feel like KYT has cut corners. It’s smart, safe, and affordable. Given its attractive price point, the Striker could very well help KYT build a strong following in the Indian budget helmet segment.

Royal Enfield Launches New Riding Gear and Lifestyle Apparel Range for Women

Introduced as part of the brand’s “She Rides Her Way” campaign, Royal Enfield's new riding gear range features all-weather and mesh riding jackets and half-face and full-face helmets.

As someone with a rather tall (read 6 feet) and thin body frame, finding riding gear that fits snugly can be a bit of a challenge. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Raida Bolt riding jacket fit me better than most other jackets I’ve tried, it even looked stylish too. Raida is a relatively new brand in the market, and chances are that you may not have heard of it before. Now, the brand faces some tough competition from manufacturers that have been in the field for a while. So, how good is it?

Well, one thing is certain – if you like dark-coloured riding gear that does not draw too much attention, the Bolt will be right up your alley. Our review unit was primarily black in colour with red accents, although there is also a version available with brighter green accents. Raida has used 3D polyester air mesh to cover large patches on the arms, front, and rear of the Bolt. The remaining sections employ 600D polyester. A functional design element of the jacket is the presence of off-white reflective patches on the upper part of the arms and front. Even the Raida logo at the back uses the same reflective material to facilitate enhanced visibility for other motorists at night. &nbsp;

Thanks to its mesh pattern, the jacket offers great ventilation, particularly useful in summer. However, there is no provision for adding a rain liner to the Bolt. So, you will have to be careful when and where you wear the jacket. It is certainly not an all-weather solution.

The Bolt comes with four pockets in total – two outside and two inside. I like that one of the inside pockets has a flap with Velcro closure, providing a secure place for your valuables. YKK zippers have been used all around, and they worked flawlessly. I was surprised by the jacket’s meticulous craftmanship, and during my use of it, I couldn’t find a quality issue to speak of.

The Bolt also comes with Safe Tech CE Level 2 armours for the elbows, shoulders, and back, along with two foam pads for the chest. Needless to say, Raida hasn’t compromised on safety features, providing a comprehensive kit for the price.Accessing the protectors is also straightforward, allowing for easy swapping or removal.

While Raida might not have the brand value of its competitors as of now, it does offer a rather promising product. The Bolt has a simple yet stylish design and is packed with the right safety features. Furthermore, its competitive price of ₹5,950 significantly adds to its appeal. While I am perfectly satisfied with what Raida offers for the price, I still think that a more aggressive pricing strategy could help bolster the brand’s position in the market.

Riding in the Indian summer is definitely a tough job, and if you take your safety on a motorcycle a little seriously, you will find it quite difficult to leave home without putting on your riding gear. In Indian summers, the mesh riding gear is really the best you can get, for not only does it keep you safe but also cool. We have been using the Macna Velocity Riding Jacket (Rs 9,900) and Macna Bora Riding Pants (Rs 14,250) for some time now, and here’s what we have to say about them.

Both, the riding jacket and pants incorporate generous mesh panels, which allow for air circulation inside the gear. In the case of the pants, standing on the motorcycle's pegs further amplifies the ventilation around the legs, thereby enhancing the cooling effect. &nbsp;

The riding jacket comes with two pockets near the kidneys and one inside the main zipper, which is waterproof. While we couldn’t test it in rain, the material has a similar feel to that of other brands with proven waterproofing capabilities. The pants have four zipper pockets and feature a semi-waterproof material inside, ensuring the protection of your belongings even in light rain showers.

The riding jacket has adjustable features around the waist and cuffs. The former ensures a snug fit, while the latter gives you control over the air entering the jacket. Similarly, the pants get three levels of adjustability around the waist, knees, and feet. The waist adjustability ensures a tailored fit, even if you put on a few kilos. The knee adjustability is a two-step process, and its biggest function is to prevent excess fabric interference. If you get the right size pants, you won’t find yourself using these features often. The Velcro strips around the feet allow you to snugly enclose the bottom of the pants around your boots. While it’s not a perfect seal, it’s nice.&nbsp;

The biggest highlight is that both the riding jacket and the pants get CE Level 1 protection. The former gets it for the shoulders and elbows as part of the standard package. There’s a separate back protector pocket, but you need to buy it separately. The latter, on the other hand, gets the CE level 1 protection for the knees. Plus, there is space to fit in hip protectors, but again, they are an optional extra.

Overall, the Macna Velocity Riding Jacket and the Macna Bora Riding Pants offer good comfort at a reasonable price. However, to get the maximum protection out of them, you will have to upgrade the existing pieces of armour with optional add-ons.
