Take, for instance, the fate of two recent unveils in this ultra rarified space – the Rimac Nevera EV and the Bugatti Tourbillon.&nbsp;

To be fair, both are ultimate expressions of the automobile. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/rimac-nevera-15th-anniversary-edition-unveiled-with-copper-paint-finish-limited-to-9-units-117715/">The one powered purely by batteries and four electric motors</a> produces 1,888 horsepower and retails for $2 million dollars. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/bugatti-tourbillon-the-chiron-successor-unveiled-with-a-1775bhp-v16-and-a-stunning-instrument-cluster-117524/">The one sporting a retro horseshoe grille</a>, however, has a brand new 8.3-litre V16 under the hood that produces 986 horsepower. But, to compete with the likes of the new-age Nevera, it also has three electric motors and a battery pack that take the total output of its hybrid powertrain up to an EV-rivalling 1,775 horsepower. The Bugatti, however, will set you back an eyewatering $4.6 million.

The telling figure in this comparison, though, is this – of the 150 Neveras that Rimac planned to build, they’ve sold only 50, whereas all 250 Tourbillons that Bugatti aims to produce are already spoken for.

Matte Rimac, the Croatian innovator and entrepreneur – who ironically is the man behind both hyper-cars – feels that the issue lies in the fact that electric was cool when the Nevera was conceived about 7 years ago, but, with the mainstreaming of EVs, that cache has since disappeared. At least in the uber exclusive supercar space! Meanwhile, even though Bugatti had to concede to modernity in the form of three electric motors, the naturally aspirated V16 is very clearly the heart of the machine.

The other defining feature of the Bugatti comes from its name – Tourbillon – which celebrates the ultimate expression of mechanical watchmaking and craftsmanship. The clockfaces in the Tourbillon are literal works of art that truly live up to this name. After all, a Swiss watchmaker builds the actual gauges. And even the perspex that usually encases a traditional gauge cluster is replaced with sapphire crystal in this instance.

It's interesting to note that it’s the Tourbillon that’s flying the flag for all things analogue, since this is also a time when mechanical watchmaking is once again enjoying its moment in the sun – having long seen off the threat from quartz watches and even the more recent challenge from smart watches. Even in the world of haute horology, the Tourbillon doesn’t serve any real practical purpose – it did at the time of pocket watches – and yet it’s one of the most revered of watch complications. It’s exceedingly difficult to create, it is perhaps a fraction more accurate, but it is certainly more beautiful – and that’s the point. It’s not always about what has the most utility nor what’s most practical, but it’s about what has the most allure, the most romance, and what appeals to the heart as much as the head.

Coming back to the ICE vs EV battle, this in no way takes away from the fact that electric propulsion actually works far better for in-city travel. It’s cleaner, quieter, and cheaper to run. But what it isn’t is soulful or fun – despite the insane instant speed. In fact, that’s it’s only party trick. What it’s lacking is personality.

If the hyper-car segment is positioned as ground zero in the ICE vs. EV battle, it’s ICE that comes out the clear winner.

The brand Rimac is well-known for its cutting-edge, high-performance electric drivetrains. In addition to producing the elegant Pininfarina Battista's powerplant and drawing investment from <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/porsche/">Porsche</a> and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai</a>, the manufacturer gained prominence for the Nevera and a notable collaboration with Bugatti. However, Mate Rimac, the founder, established his own company under the same name back in 2009. To commemorate the company's 15th anniversary, Rimac Automobili has designed a unique special-edition Nevera with chic copper paintwork.

To commemorate the company's founding year (2009), only nine units of the hypercar will be built, with the first decked out&nbsp;in a unique&nbsp;copper shade. The stunning custom paintwork is contrasted with exposed carbon fibre, and the visual appeal is further enhanced by exclusive graphics and 15th-anniversary badging on the front fender. The alloy wheels, with six copper spokes and three black spokes, also have a dual-tone appearance. Apart from this, the special edition sports a decal that extends from the hood to the rear wing.

The copper finish continues inside the cabin, with the striking shade gracing the anodised switchgear and door trim. The seats come with contrasting copper leather, copper stitching, and the number 15 embossed in the headrests regardless of whether they are decked out in black or white. Furthermore, the armrest is uniquely etched with the years 2009 and 2024, distinguishing the car as one of nine that was "designed, engineered, and manufactured in Croatia."&nbsp;

<h2>Rimac Nevera 15th Anniversary Edition: Powertrain and Price</h2>

Mechanically equipped with a quad-motor all-wheel drive system and a 120kWh battery pack, the Nevera can churn out 1888bhp of maximum power and 2,369Nm of peak torque. This allows the model to achieve a top speed of 412km/h and a WLTP-certified range of 490 km. Moreover, the vehicle can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 1.74 seconds.

With a price tag of USD 2.5 million (about Rs 20.87 crore), the Nevera 15th Anniversary Edition is fully loaded with all the bells and whistles, including custom luggage that matches the interior of the vehicle. The copper-coloured Rimac Nevera will mark its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.&nbsp;

A new record has been set at the Nürburgring by the Rimac Nevera, an electric hypercar, outperforming the previous record set by the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack for the fastest production electric car lap time. The Rimac Nevera completed the lap at 7:05.298, earning the top spot in its category. The Tesla Model S Track Pack previously held the record with a lap time 7:25.231. The hypercar set an astonishing record by completing the Nurburgring course which measures 20.6 kilometres long. It outpaced the Tesla model by around 20 seconds by rolling on Michelin Cup2R tyres.

The record-breaking lap was driven by Croatian racing driver Martin Kodrik, and Rimac verified the time via independent timing data, TÜV SÜD, and onboard telemetry. According to Kodrik, despite the difficult weather conditions during practice sessions, he managed to break a lap record on one of the hottest days at the circuit this summer. To celebrate this achievement, the Croatian manufacturer introduced a limited-edition version of the Nevera called "Time Attack." The Rimac Nevera has broken the record time of the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack at the Nürburgring. The hypercar established a new production electric car lap record at the well-known racetrack by clocking in at 7:05:298.

<h2>Rimac Nevera: New Records</h2>

An all-electric hypercar, Rimac Nevera broke the record by accelerating from 0 to 400km/h and back to a stop in an astounding duration of 29.93 seconds, setting a new standard for automotive excellence. This feat of engineering and performance is a significant achievement. With the goal to evaluate hypercars, the record measures acceleration, aerodynamics, peak speed, and stopping power.

With 23 independently validated speed records, the hypercar from the Croatian automaker with its headquarters in Sveta Nedelja has managed to claim the title for most performance records broken in a single day. In a blog post, Rimac claimed that the model "effortlessly smashed existing benchmarks, running again and again under full throttle conditions without a single reliability issue or any significant loss of performance."&nbsp;The two fastest speeds ever set by Nevera are the 0-400km/h in 21.32 seconds and the 0-100km/h in 1.81&nbsp;seconds.

On an unprepared asphalt track, all the acceleration records were set using a typical one-foot rollout and road tyres (Michelin Cup 2 R). The records were independently confirmed by companies like Dewesoft and RaceLogic in addition to the company's own measurement tools.&nbsp;

<h2>Rimac Nevera: The Tech Behind the Impressive Feat</h2>

Rimac's Nevera has a battery pack, engine, and software that were all created in-house. Each of Nevera's four wheels is powered by a separate electric motor. At the back, a 1MW dual inverter configuration offers 900Nm of peak torque and 630bhp for each motor, while the front powertrain is completely customised to deliver optimal power and control, as per the firm. With a battery capacity of 120kWh, the overall power is 1,914bhp and 2,360Nm of maximum torque.

All systems are controlled by an intricate network of internally developed electronic control units, which operate together with an NVIDIA Pegasus-based supercomputer to compute and provide output to the four powertrain systems 100 times per second. The system name that unifies all of these elements and the software that controls them is Rimac All-Wheel Torque Vectoring 2.

According to Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac, "The Nevera can go from breaking records to driving over 300 miles on a charge, refilling from 0-80% in less than 20 minutes, and keeping the most demanding drivers in the world engaged." Meanwhile, in order to meet the increasing customer demands, Rimac is now producing the Rimac Nevera, which has a 150-unit manufacturing cap, in its plant close to Zagreb.

Since its debut, the Rimac Nevera electric hypercar has broken several speed records, making it one of the fastest-production electric vehicles in the world. Nevera now holds the records for achieving 0-400km/h in 21.32 seconds and 0-100km/h in 1.81 seconds.

This&nbsp;milestone follows the&nbsp;Nevera's quarter-mile dash in a record-breaking 8.582 seconds in 2021.

The Rimac Nevera has recently broken the top speed record for production&nbsp;<a href="https://www.autox.com/electric-cars-in-india/">EVs</a>, clocking an astounding&nbsp;412km/h. With this, the Rimac has finally achieved&nbsp;the firm's initial intended target speed, which was set&nbsp;when the carmaker debuted the model&nbsp;for the very first time at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show. The Nevera set the record at the Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany – an oval circuit with two straights, which are approximately four kilometres&nbsp;long. It was Miro Zrnčević, Rimac's chief&nbsp;test&nbsp;and development driver, who drove the record-breaking car.

Miro&nbsp;Zrnčević said, 'To travel at 412km/h, or 258mph, means travelling at a third of the speed of sound. Simply achieving that alone in a road car is incredibly complex, but in Nevera we have created a car that can travel long distances on a single charge, tackle tight and twisting race tracks, and drift as well as break straight-line speed records, both for acceleration and V-MAX.'

The Nevera was configured to its maximum speed setting for the record run. For improved high-speed stability, this mode generates an aerodynamic profile that integrates drag and downforce. Moreover, it was fitted with road Michelin Cup 2R tyres.&nbsp;The Nevera is powered by&nbsp;four electric motors to generate 1,888bhp. It accelerates quickly, reaching 96km/h in 1.85 seconds and 161km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The Rimac Nevera now aspires to shatter lap records on numerous racecourses across the world, after this amazing feat. For the uninitiated, the Nevera's manufacturing began in July, and shortly after that, a battery upgrade was announced.
