  While SUVs are more popular these days, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire&nbsp;surprised everyone in May 2025 by becoming the highest-selling car in India,&nbsp;beating the Hyundai Creta. It sold 18,084 units, marking a 13% year-on-year&nbsp;increase over the 16,061 units sold in the same month last year. The compact sedan was closely followed by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (an MPV) and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza (a compact SUV),&nbsp;both of which recorded positive year-on-year sales growth. Here’s a look at the top 5 cars that sold the most in May 2025.</p><h2>Maruti Suzuki Dzire</h2><p>The Dzire has a&nbsp;1.2-litre Z Series petrol engine that produces&nbsp;80bhp and 112Nm and is mated to a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission. It also comes with a CNG powertrain. The price of the sedan starts in India at Rs 6.84 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p><h2>Maruti Suzuki Ertiga</h2><p>

For reference, the SUV sold 14,186 units in May 2024.&nbsp;</p><p>The car runs on a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 102bhp and a peak torque of&nbsp;136.8Nm, and is mated to either a&nbsp;five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic. The smart hybrid system adds functions like&nbsp;brake energy regeneration,&nbsp;idle start-stop, and&nbsp;torque assist. A CNG option is also available. The price of the compact SUV starts at Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p><h2>Hyundai Creta, Creta EV</h2><p>

  <p><br></p><p>After topping the charts in April, the Hyundai Creta slipped to fourth&nbsp;place in May 2025, with 14,860 units sold—which is a modest 1% increase over last month’s 14,662 units.&nbsp;The popular SUV is offered with both internal combustion&nbsp;and electric powertrains. Its ICE lineup includes&nbsp;a 1.5-litre NA petrol,&nbsp;a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol,  and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.</p><p>The Creta Electric comes with two battery options: a 42kWh pack and a more powerful&nbsp;51.4kWh unit. The ICE variant is priced at Rs 11.11 lakh, while the EV costs Rs 17.99 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices. </p><h2>Mahindra Scorpio, Scorpio</h2><p>
