Toyota has rolled out a comprehensively updated version of the Corolla Cross for global markets, introducing aesthetic refinements and mechanical tweaks to the compact SUV. Central to this update is the debut of the GR Sport variant. Designed to appeal to more performance-conscious buyers, the GR Sport stands apart with clear-lens taillights and unique GR badging. Beneath the surface, it features sport-specific upgrades such as a stiffer suspension setup, added structural bracing, and revised steering calibration for a more agile feel.&nbsp;The fresh iteration of the Corolla Cross arrives with a series of styling enhancements, starting with a thoroughly revised front fascia. A bolder honeycomb-style grille dominates the nose, flanked by headlamps that have been recontoured for a sharper, more modern appearance. A notable addition is the LED light bar that stretches across the front, although this feature is reserved exclusively for the High-grade model. Subtle refinements continue at the rear, where the taillight clusters have been reshaped and now feature integrated fins – elements that, according to the carmaker, contribute to improved aerodynamic efficiency and stability. Further elevating the updated design are newly crafted 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels offered across the lineup, lending the model a more polished and contemporary look.  The interior has been overhauled with a focus on improved usability and modern appeal. Notable revisions include a reconfigured centre console that offers more space and practicality, a redesigned gear shifter, and the addition of wireless charging for mobile devices. A larger 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen has been introduced alongside a new 12.3-inch fully digital driver display. These include a 1.8-litre petrol-electric system generating 140bhp (Hybrid 140) and a more powerful 2.0-litre petrol-electric setup producing 197bhp (Hybrid 200). The 2.0-litre option also offers all-wheel drive (AWD), now upgraded with a Snow mode for better traction in slippery conditions. Toyota claims the Hybrid 140 accelerates from 0–100km/h in 9.9 seconds, whereas the FWD Hybrid 200 does it in 7.6 seconds, and the AWD version in 7.5 seconds.<h2>Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport Trim</h2>The Corolla Cross GR Sport does not feature any upgrades to its engine compared to the regular model, but it stands out with its sportier styling cues.

 It comes with a unique front bumper and grille design inspired by the aggressive look of the GR Corolla hatchback. This variant also sports exclusive 19-inch black alloy wheels and is offered in a special Storm Grey color exclusive to the GR Sport. The suspension has been lowered by 10mm to improve handling and give a more planted feel, while the steering system has been adjusted for better responsiveness. Standard features now include paddle shifters, along with new Sport and Snow Extra driving modes. While the international release date hasn’t been announced yet, the GR Sport version of the Corolla Cross is expected to arrive in European markets this year.

Another month, another crossover from the Toyota stables!

Of late, Toyota's been pretty aggressive about its SUV/crossover game, in the ASEAN markets at least. Just this year, we've seen the new Toyota Venza/Harrier, the new Yaris Cross, RAV4 Prime, updated Fortuner and Hilux models, as well as the updated Sienna MPV. And now, Toyota has once again&nbsp;brought to the fore one of its most renowned nameplates in the world, in the form of the new 2021 Corolla Cross.

As the name suggests, the Corolla Cross is a crossover version of the Corolla and in Toyota's current line-up, sits between the coupe-like CH-R compact crossover and the RAV4 SUV (in terms of size). Based on the same TNGA-C platform as the CH-R and Corolla, the Corolla Cross and CH-R even share the same wheelbase. Therefore, the Corolla Cross can be seen as a more practical, slightly bigger alternative to the CH-R. To explain its size in the Indian context, at 4,460mm in length, the Corolla Cross is comparable to the Hyundai Tucson (4,475mm).

In Thailand, the Corolla Cross will go on sale with two powertrain options. Customers can either choose the 1.8-litre petrol motor (2ZR-FBE) paired to a CVT automatic gearbox (139bhp/175Nm) or a 1.8-litre petrol hybrid (2ZR-FXE) that makes 98bhp &amp; 142Nm. The hybrid powerplant comes paired with an e-CVT gearbox, therefore no manual option&nbsp;is offered at the moment.

Though the Corolla Cross will first debut in the ASEAN markets, it's unlikely to come to India. India is likely to continue with the Suzuki-Toyota cross-badged products, with the Vitara Brezza rebadged as the Urban Cruiser most likely to be the next offering from Toyota in India.
