<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> has unveiled the brand-new Yaris Cross SUV. The SUV, which will mostly be sold in Indonesia, is based on the Urban Cruiser Icon, which was previously displayed. The Japanese carmaker has said that it will progressively enter other Asian markets. The compact SUV market, which includes popular models like the Hyundai Creta, is where this new SUV hopes to make an impact. The new Yaris Cross, which has the same name as the Yaris sedan, has a powerful design and is supported by the automaker's modular DNGA architecture, a less expensive version of the technologically-advanced Toyota TNGA platform. The Yaris Cross is built on the same platform as the Yaris sedan and the Raize SUV. In addition, the recently debuted SUV designed for Asian markets is quite different from the Yaris Cross offered in European nations.

<h2>Toyota Yaris Cross SUV: Exterior Styling</h2>

In the Indonesian market, the Yaris Cross directly competes with the Hyundai Creta. The SUV is somewhat longer than the Creta, measuring 4,310mm in length. The wheelbase of the Toyota SUV is 2,620mm, which is 10mm longer than that of the Hyundai Creta. In terms of visual appeal, the Toyota Yaris Cross SUV sports a modern appearance. It has an upright front fascia and wraparound headlights, which give it a look reminiscent of the E60 BMW 5-Series. The SUV includes tall bumpers and a noticeable chin below its trapezoidal front grille, finished in gloss black. Additionally, there are vertically-positioned gloss black accented fog lamps. At the base of the front profile, a large skid plate is precisely positioned.

The Toyota Yaris Cross SUV's broad, squarish wheel arches with contrast black cladding and an upright top&nbsp;– which tapers slightly towards the back&nbsp;– give it a dynamic appearance. The Yaris Cross's rear end sports an edgy appearance with horizontally positioned taillights.

Speaking of the cabin, the Yaris Cross has a multi-layered dashboard. The centrepiece of the interior is a big free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The instrument cluster is fully digital, while the central console contains several physical buttons and dials for different tasks.

<h2>Toyota Yaris Cross SUV: Engine and Gearbox</h2>

The Toyota Yaris Cross SUV has both a gasoline-only and gasoline-hybrid drivetrain. It is powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre 2NR-VE petrol engine, which offers 138Nm of peak torque and 104bhp of maximum power. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor work together to power the petrol-hybrid model. The electric motor by itself is capable of producing 79bhp of peak power and 141Nm of maximum torque, while this petrol engine is capable of producing 90bhp and 121Nm. The SUV's transmission duties are handled by an e-CVT gearbox.

<h2>Will the new Toyota Yaris Cross Make its Way to India?</h2>

Toyota is relying largely on its collaboration with Suzuki for the sale of domestically and internationally exported vehicles, SUVs, and MPVs that are built in India. The new Yaris Cross SUV shares many characteristics with Toyota and Daihatsu vehicles offered in Indonesia and other ASEAN nations, although it bears little resemblance with Toyota SUVs offered in India, where it is unlikely to make a debut.

Toyota has introduced a new SUV for the ASEAN market. The Hyundai Creta, among others, will be a competitor of the new model, which is known as the Yaris Cross. The Yaris Cross offered in ASEAN nations differs from the model sold in Europe. It is built on the modular DNGA platform.

We know that there will soon be a new Maruti Suzuki Baleno in town, but are we ready for a new Yaris hatchback from Toyota? A test mule of the same was spotted, which has led us to believe that the Toyota Yaris nameplate might make a comeback.

But given the fact that <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> is working on a new-gen Baleno, the carmaker is likely to phase out the outgoing Baleno from its production line. There are slim chances that Maruti Suzuki will produce the Baleno only to support Toyota India’s sales. So far, these are just speculations; however, it is about time Toyota India focused&nbsp;on the sub-10-lakh market for India.

The Yaris is a popular hatchback, especially in the ASEAN markets. The hatchback is sold with multiple engine options in different regions. Recently, Toyota launched the Yaris GR overseas, which is essentially a rally car for the road. Do not get your hopes high, for we are not getting the Yaris GR in India&nbsp;– unless you privately import one. The Yaris hatchback could be launched with a small pocket-friendly petrol engine.

Toyota Yaris hatchback spied on test

We know that there will soon be a new Maruti Suzuki Baleno in town, but are we ready for a new Yaris hatchback from Toyota? A test mule of the same has been spotted on test which has led us to believe that the name Toyota Yaris could make a comeback.

With the Yaris gone, Toyota's most likely to fill its void with a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz-based sedan.

After being around for a little over three years since its April 2018 launch, the Toyota Yaris bids adieu as it has been officially discontinued in India. In an official statement released today by Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the company has confirmed that it'll continue providing after-sales support and genuine spare parts for&nbsp;the Yaris for at least the next 10 years, so current customers need not be worried.

Speaking of the Yaris' customer base, the mid-size sedan&nbsp;that was brought in to take on the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was definitely not a commercial success, with only about 20,000 units ever finding owners here. Plus, a big chunk of this figure belongs&nbsp;to the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/toyota-yaris-j-launched-at-rs-912-lakh-on-government-e-marketplace-108030/">base-spec Yaris J that was launched on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) last year for fleet operations.</a>&nbsp;

The move to&nbsp;discontinue&nbsp;the Yaris also falls in line with Toyota's aim to focus on its more premium products in India&nbsp;and keep the sub-10 lakh space occupied by rebadged <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki models</a>, like the Urban Cruiser and the Glanza. Speaking of this, Yaris' departure has also paved the way for a rebadged Ciaz-based sedan that's most likely to be christened Toyota Belta. The drill will remain the same – it'll share everything with the Ciaz barring a few Toyota-specific visual changes. Although the Belta's launch timeline is yet to be confirmed.

Toyota Yaris discontinued in India

After being around for a little over three years since its April 2018 launch, the Toyota Yaris bids adieu as it has been officially discontinued in India. Toyota has confirmed that it'll continue providing after-sales support and genuine spare parts for the Yaris for at least the next 10 years.

Toyota India has dropped the first teaser of a new special edition variant, called the Yaris Black Edition. The new version will get a number of cosmetic updates, including a new black paint scheme.&nbsp;

With the festive season around the corner, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> India has teased a limited-edition variant of the Yaris sedan. Billed as the Black Edition, the special edition will be offered only in a black colour scheme along with some other minor cosmetic updates.

At the moment, Toyota hasn’t revealed many details about the Yaris Black Edition, but the teaser shows that apart from a black paint scheme, the sedan will have chrome garnish around the headlamps and tail-lamps, and it’ll also have door edge lighting on the inside. Apart from that, the limited-edition is expected to be based on the top-end V (O) and VX variants of the car, meaning they’ll come loaded with features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, seven airbags, cruise control, automatic AC, rear parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, auto headlamps and much more. The VX variant adds electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, rain-sensing wipers, tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and more.

The Yaris Black Edition will come powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as the regular version, which develops 105bhp and 140Nm of torque. It is expected to be offered with a six-speed manual or a 7-step CVT automatic. The VX automatic also gets electronic stability control and hill-hold.

The regular V(O) and VX variants of the Yaris have priced between Rs 11.97 lakh and Rs 14.07 lakh (both ex-showroom), so expect the limited-edition variant to get a similar price-tag.

The base variant of the Toyota Yaris has been added on the Government e Marketplace (GeM) for Government Organisations, Departments and Public Sector Units (PSUs).

Toyota India has made the Yaris available on the Government e Marketplace (GeM) for Government Organisations, Departments and Public Sector Units (PSUs). Introduced in a single variant, the Government can now procure the base J variant of the Yaris for Rs. 9,12,382, excluding freight charges and location taxes.

The Toyota Yaris was launched in India 2018 and the J variant for GeM is the manual gearbox model that is being made available as standard in Super White paint shade, while other colour options will also be on offer on an order basis. The car is powered by a 106bhp, 1.5-litre, four cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Toyota Yaris J comes equipped with power windows all around, projector headlamps, body coloured ORVMs and door handles, shark fin ariel, a stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, tilt adjustable steering wheel, ABS, EBD, BA and seven airbags.

Commenting on the move, Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Sales and Services, TKM, said, “Toyota Yaris is a preferred choice in the segment for its world-class safety, quality, durability and reliability features. The listing of Yaris on the GeM will now ensure that car buyers from central and state governments will have a wider choice in the sedan category. We are cognizant that several Government undertakings are moving towards procurement from the GeM in the post-COVID world and we want to ease their buying experience. Also, the “Covid Warrior” special offer applicable on Yaris has received good response and also given us an opportunity to thank the Government employees and doctors for their unwavering services towards containing the Covid pandemic. We are hopeful that this move will help us capitalize on the new B segment opportunity and increase interest from various Government departments and PSUs besides. Overall, we aim to cater to the demand on the Government side.”

Toyota has confirmed that the company is working on an all-new compact-SUV. The upcoming SUV will be based on the latest-gen Yaris that’s sold in global markets, and will sit below the C-HR&nbsp;in Toyota’s SUV range. The new model will be sold in European markets at first, but given its size, there’s a good chance of Toyota bringing it to developing countries, including India.

The Yaris crossover will be underpinned by Toyota’s GA-B platform and will share its mechanicals with the hatchback. It’s expected to be around 4 metres long, meaning it’ll be perfect for our country -&nbsp;if <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> plans on bringing it here that is. Design-wise, it’s expected to be beefier and more aggressive and quite different from the hatchback, since Toyota doesn’t intend the new SUV to look like a Yaris-on-stilts. Toyota has also released a teaser sketch of the upcoming SUV to back their claims.

Commenting on the development, Matthew Harrison, VP, Toyota Europe, &nbsp;said, “You won’t have to wait long to see a final design, and you will see that this is not just a Yaris with body cladding and raised suspension, but an entirely new and distinctive B-SUV model with a compact, dynamic design and a personality of its own.”

The upcoming compact-SUV is expected to retain the 1.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre petrol engines from the Yaris hatchback, while a hybrid powertrain may also be offered in European markets.

The new SUV will be built at Toyota’s Onnaing plant in France, alongside the Yaris hatchback.

Toyota teases new Yaris-based compact-SUV

Toyota is working on all-new compact-SUV that will be based on the latest-gen Yaris hatchback. The new SUV is going to be sold in European markets at first, but given its size, it may also come to India in the future.

Toyota has launched an updated version of the Yaris featuring cosmetic enhancements and new (O) variants. Prices range between Rs. 8.65 lakh to Rs. 14.07 lakh, ex-showroom India.

The Toyota Yaris is one of the most sorted products in the mid-size sedan segment. But sales never really took off for the sedan in a market where customers prioritise stand-out features and over sheen. <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> has now decided to address this issue in part by launching an updated version of the Yaris featuring dual tone exterior colour themes and new Option variants to further widen the variant portfolio of its mid-size sedan. New features aboard the updated Yaris include gloss black finish for the grille and ORVM casings, leatherette seat upholstery, leather wrapped gear lever and steering wheel, a centre console storage box and dual tone alloy wheels. The dual tone versions of the Yaris are available from the J (O) variant onwards which also feature two-tone alloy wheels. Prices for the V (O) manual start at Rs. 11.97 lakh (ex-showroom India) while the V (O) automatic retails at Rs. 13.17 lakh (ex-showroom India).&nbsp;Mechanically, the Yaris remains the same as earlier and it continues to be offered with a sole 1.5-litre petrol engine with the choice of manual and CVT automatic transmission options.&nbsp;

Speaking on the launch of the updated &nbsp;Yaris, N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We are happy that our Yaris customers have highly appreciated the value propositions the world -class sedan offers. Updated Toyota Yaris Launched

Toyota launches the updated 2019 model year Yaris in India with new dual-tone colour scheme options, added features and new diamond-cut alloy wheels. Powertrain options remain the same for the new Yaris.

After dealing with the momentous launch of the Supra, Toyota now seems to be focussed on the testing &amp; development of the next-gen Yaris hatchback.

Our international partner Quattroruote has managed to catch a couple of prototypes of the next-gen Toyota Yaris running tests on the Nürburgring. However, the interesting bit here is the fact that the two prototypes represent two different versions of the Yaris: the one wearing the standard black &amp; white camouflage is the regular version (lead image). The prototype was spotted with a yellow sticker on its rear glass, which, according to the international convention, indicates some kind of powertrain electrification. Our guess – it could be a hybrid version.

The other prototype is arguably a hotter sport version of the hatchback, draped in the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> GRMN (Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring) camouflage. This is the same kind of camouflage that was earlier seen on the Supra prototypes. Apart from the Toyota performance-house cladding, other sporty credentials on the Sport prototype include flared wheel arches and larger golden-finish alloy wheels with really low-profile tyres. A closer look makes the other body changes evident. Compared to the standard hybrid version, the Sport derivative also features aggressively-styled bumpers, with larger air vents at the front &amp; a diffuser at the rear, and a larger restyled grille.

While not much is confirmed as of now in terms of the new car's specs, some reports suggest that the next-gen car may be built on the new TNGA platform. In terms of its debut, expect Toyota to pull the wraps off the production-spec car at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show in October.

As the Yaris sedan (the third-gen XP150 sold in India) has not really worked out for Toyota here, we are not too optimistic about any new-gen models of the Yaris foraying into the Indian market any time in the future.

Next-gen Toyota Yaris caught testing at the Nürburgring

Our international partner Quattroruote has managed to catch a couple of prototypes of the next-gen Toyota Yaris running tests on the Nürburgring. However, the interesting bit here is the fact that the two prototypes represent two different versions of the Yaris.

The Yaris competes in a segment wherein brand names matter, a lot! And for this very reason, the Honda City continues to be relevant in the segment, even today. Now, the Yaris – with its <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> badge – is headed in a similar direction. But, there’s a problem. You see, with a sticker price that exceeds the Ciaz’s by over `3 lakh, and the lack of a diesel engine, the Yaris clearly has its work cut out for it.

Keeping the price aside, the Yaris has a lot going for it – as it has an extremely spacious cabin and scores points on seat comfort and ergonomics. Equipment and trim levels too are on par with its rivals. In fact, the Yaris is the only car in its segment to offer seven airbags as standard. Also, it’s bound to have a very strong resale value. It is a Toyota after all.

The Yaris is offered with a choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT autobox. The automatic model offers a fairly comfortable driving experience. But, typically, as is the case with CVTs, there’s plenty of that associated rubber band effect. Also, demanding stronger performance from the automatic Yaris can result in a fairly audible powertrain sound. For our track test, though, we had the manual model. And while this definitely did help the case for the Yaris, the 1.5-litre engine wasn’t as free revving as we’d like. While the mid-range was impressive, it ran out of steam higher up in the rev range and even felt a little gruff as you approached the redline.&nbsp;

In short, the Yaris’s engine is tuned for fuel efficiency and urban driveability and not for outright performance. Similarly, while the chassis is solid and very predictable, this is not a car that’s designed to set your pulse racing. This is a car that’s engineered to relax its occupants as they revel in its comfort and dependability.&nbsp;
