I love motorcycles, and like many enthusiasts, I too have an ultimate motorcycling scenario that I often daydream about – owning a race-prepped motorcycle for endless track days. While turning this dream into a reality is distant, I did find myself staring at an opportunity to hit the track after almost five years, thanks to TVS Motor Company. The anticipation was enough to keep me awake at night. What if I have forgotten the racing lines? Will I be able to trail brake to the apex, or would an eager throttle on a corner exit cause a high side and send me flying to the moon? My mind was flooded with all kinds of questions.

However, I soon found myself staring into the reality that materialised a few days after my hurried ‘Yes’ to TVS’s proposal for participating in the track day. To my mix of excitement and apprehension, I learnt that I was set to race among my media peers in the 310cc category. For reference, to qualify to race the race-prepped Apache 310 in the one-make championship, you need not one, but two podiums at national level (FMSCI-certified) races. And yes, this is just for the qualifier round. Even after this, you need to make the cut amongst other national-level podium finishers to be further selected for the full championship. In short, your skillset needs to be on a different level to even step onto the heavily race-prepped motorcycle. And there I was, diving back into the fray after years away from the track. Talk about being thrown in the deep end!

The practice session was a bit lacklustre, to be honest. My body and mind seemed out of sync and couldn’t keep up with the unbelievable performance of the bike, resulting in a lap time of 2m:15s around the Madras International Circuit (MIC), formerly known as Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT). However, in the next session, I managed to bring it down to 2m:12s, securing P8 on the starting grid for the race among 13 properly fast and competitive riders. Eventually, it led to a P7 finish at the race, with the lap times hovering around 2m:09s, which was more than I could have asked for that day. I could talk about how the motorcycle was mechanically changed and what all influenced the results that day – like the sweltering heat, for instance – but there is another thing that’s worth mentioning.

It’s interesting that TVS doesn’t limit the opportunity to ride these race motorcycles to just professional riders and journalists; they extend it to their customers as well. And frankly, that is insane! No other brand offers such an authentic race bike experience to its customers. Given TVS’ success in racing over decades and their meticulous organisation of such events, they are truly outshining the competition by giving this opportunity. Called the ARE GP, short for Apache Racing Experience Grand Prix, its first iteration concluded with all of us gathering at MIC.

If you happen to own a TVS Apache, you are in luck because you can participate in the event too. In this edition, over 1,000 customers participated, with 48 riders from different cities making the cut to the finale. The competition featured four categories: 160cc, 180cc, 200cc, and 310cc. The 48 finalists got a chance to race the one-make championship spec Apache 200 and Apache RR 310 on the racetrack. The best part? They were given race training by TVS’s own top professional racers and champions, which was simply an invaluable opportunity. Additionally, the riders were given FIM-homologated helmets and other high-quality racing gear to ensure their safety on the racetrack.

The winners of the championship won an all-expenses paid trip to the Sepang Grand Prix, a wild card entry into the TVS one-make RR 310 Championship, free participation in select experiential rides, like the TVS MotoSoul and, of course, some free merchandise.&nbsp;

2024 TVS Apache ARE GP Experience: In The Deep End

A visit to the racetrack is not just exciting but can also be nerve-wracking. But to visit one after years, and on a cup bike? Oh, lord…

TVS has launched an all-blacked version of the Apache RTR 160 in India, called&nbsp;the Blaze of Black&nbsp;Dark Edition. Price-wise,&nbsp;the new version&nbsp;ranges from Rs 1.20 lakh (for the&nbsp;Apache RTR 160 2V Black Edition) to Rs 1.25 lakh (for the&nbsp;Apache RTR 160 4V Black Edition). Both prices are ex-showroom. As the name implies, the Black Edition features&nbsp;blacked-out styling elements, including a fuel tank with a black TVS Apache stallion logo and an exhaust. Besides, TVS has also slapped Apache and RTR 160 4V&nbsp;stickers on the side panels and tail, respectively. Other than that, the Black Edition remains the same as the base variant&nbsp;of the Apache RTR 160, which gets a drum brake at the rear but misses out on Bluetooth connectivity.&nbsp;

<h2>TVS Apache RTR 160 Black Editions: Engine</h2>

The Apache RTR 160 2V Black Edition draws power from the familiar&nbsp;159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with two valves. In&nbsp;Sport mode, the engine pushes out 15.8bhp at 8,750rpm and 13.85Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. However,&nbsp;Rain and Urban modes reduce these output numbers to&nbsp;13.14bhp at 8,000rpm and 12.7Nm at 6,500rpm.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Apache RTR 160 4V Black Edition uses a&nbsp;159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with four valves. The engine develops 17.35bhp at 9,250rpm and 14.73Nm of peak torque. It gets the same riding modes as the RTR 160 2V. Transmission duties on both bikes are taken care of by&nbsp;a&nbsp;five-speed gearbox.

<h2>TVS Apache RTR 160 Black Editions: Features</h2>

Apart from three riding modes, the Black Editions&nbsp;continue&nbsp;to offer a front disc-rear drum brake setup, Glide Through Technology (GTT), all-LED lighting, and a TVS SmartXonnect system with voice assistance. A&nbsp;digital instrument cluster is also available, but it does not support&nbsp;Bluetooth.&nbsp;

In terms of market competition, the&nbsp;TVS Apache RTR 160 range rivals the&nbsp;Hero Xtreme 160R,&nbsp;Bajaj Pulsar NS160, and Yamaha FZS-FI.&nbsp;

<h2>Selection Rounds</h2>

The selection rounds were held for each of the four championship selection categories: 160cc–180cc, 200cc, and 310cc. For the first time, 48 of the best customers had the chance to experience a safe racing atmosphere on the TVS OMC race-spec&nbsp;Apache RR 310 and&nbsp;Apache RTR 200, giving them a taste of how their motorcycle performs on the race circuit.

Mechanically, the <a href="http://www.autox.com/new-bikes/tvs/apache-rr-310/">Apache RR 310</a> is equipped with a&nbsp;312.22cc liquid-cooled engine that churns out&nbsp;34bhp of maximum power&nbsp;and 27.3Nm of peak torque. The motor is coupled to a six-speed transmission along with a slipper clutch. There are four riding modes on offer&nbsp;- Rain, Urban, Sport and Track.

As part of the manufacturer's attempt to set new standards for rider safety, the TVS ARE GP Cup competitors rode with premium safety gear, such as racing suits with extra chest and back protection and helmets that have received FIM homologation. According to the firm, the international and Indian champion racers from TVS Racing supervised a training program for the participants that improved their understanding of safety on the track and provided insightful information.

In the RR310 category, Rushab Shah clinched the title, followed by Santosh Balakrishnan and Aditya Tentiwala in second and third place, respectively. Coming to the&nbsp;RTR 200 category, Bharath B took the&nbsp;first spot, whereas&nbsp;Pradeep C ended up winning in the RTR 160-180 category.

TVS Motor Company launched the 2024 version of the Apache RTR 160 4V at the recent edition of TVS Motosoul in Goa. The naked motorcycle is priced at Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes in only one colour option –Lightning Blue. Given new features and certain mechanical changes, it is more than simply a MY update. <h2>2024 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V: New Updates</h2>

TVS has equipped the new Apache RTR 160R 4V with a larger 240mm rear disc brake – as opposed to the previous 200mm unit – and dual-channel ABS as standard. The 270mm front disc brake is still present. In addition, there's a new Lightning Blue paint scheme, three riding modes (Urban, Rain, and Sport), and TVS SmartXonnect with voice assistance available.

The modified model continues to feature standard telescopic front forks, a rear mono-shock, and 17-inch wheels, with 90/90 (f) and 130/70 (r) section tyres. Moreover, it has a radial unit at the back.

<h2>2024 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V: Engine and Hardware Details</h2>

Mechanically, the motorcycle's 160cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine produces a maximum torque of 14.8Nm at 6,500rpm and 16.2bhp of peak power at 8,000rpm and is paired with a five-speed transmission. The suspension consists of a mono-shock unit at the back and a telescopic fork at the front. The manufacturer has also improved the braking system by adding a larger rear disc (240mm) with rear lift protection (RLP).

In terms of market competition, the new Apache RTR 160 4V rivals the Bajaj Pulsar NS160, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, and the Honda CB Hornet 2.0.

In November 2023, the company recorded robust sales growth, totalling 364,231 units compared to 277,123 units in November 2022, reflecting a solid 31% increase. Two-wheeler sales rose by 34%, reaching 352,103 units from 263,642 units in November of the previous year. Domestic two-wheeler sales surged by an impressive 50%, escalating from 191,730 units in November 2022 to 287,017 units in November 2023.

Motorcycle sales saw a 19% gain, increasing from 145,006 units in November 2022 to 172,836 units in the same period this year. Scooter sales demonstrated remarkable growth, rising from 83,679 units in November 2022 to 135,749 units in November 2023, representing a substantial 62% surge. Electric model sales also showed a positive trend, with the company selling 16,782 units last month, compared to 10,056 units in November of the previous year.

In terms of exports, the company shipped 75,203 units in November 2023, slightly lower than the 84,134 units exported in November 2022. However, overall two-wheeler exports decreased to 65,086 units in November 2023 from 71,912 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Say hello to the brand-new TVS Apache RTR 310. As the name suggests, it’s the latest 310cc motorcycle to come out of the BMW-TVS partnership. However, while it shares the same platform with the likes of BMW G 310 R and TVS Apache RR 310, it brings a lot of new stuff to the table.

TVS has updated the prices of the Apache RTR 160 4V and the RTR 200 4V on their official website. The Indian motorcycle manufacturer's&nbsp;RTR 160 4V now starts at&nbsp;Rs 1.24 lakh&nbsp;for the base drum brake variant, which is Rs 700 higher than before. While the top-spec Special Edition now carries a price tag of&nbsp;Rs 1.32 lakh, receiving a similar hike of Rs 700 over its previous price. In fact, all four variants of the bike are now costlier by Rs 700. Coming to the RTR 200 4V, the single-channel ABS variant is now priced at Rs 1.42 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. Currently, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V retails between Rs 1.24 lakh and Rs 1.32 lakh. Its most affordable entry-level drum brake variant, after the price revision,&nbsp;is available at approximately Rs 1.24 lakh (Rs 1,23,770). While the special edition of the RTR 4V stands at around Rs 1.32 lakh (1,32,070). All prices are ex-showroom. The bike is offered across 4 variants in the country. However, the motorcycle remains unchanged in terms of powertrain. The Apache RTR 160 4V&nbsp;draws power from the same 159.7cc, single-cylinder, four-valve engine that pushes out 17.4bhp of maximum power and 14.7Nm of peak torque. This oil-cooled engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox. On the feature front, it continues to sport an all-LED headlamp, a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, 3 ride modes, and single-channel&nbsp;ABS.

In&nbsp;terms of rivalry, the&nbsp;RTR 160 4V locks horns with the likes of the Hero Xtreme 160R, the Bajaj Pulsar N160, the Yamaha FZ-S, the Honda Hornet 160R, and the Suzuki Gixxer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

TVS has also upped the prices of the Apache RTR 200 4V bike. It becomes slightly more expensive than before. Available in two variants in India, the 200 4V motorcycle carries a starting price of Rs 1.42 lakh (Rs 1,41,670) for the&nbsp;single-channel ABS variant. Similar to the RTR 160 4V, the RTR 200 4V&nbsp;bike receives no changes in terms of features &amp; powertrain. Powering the&nbsp;200 4V is a&nbsp;197.75cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine that is rated at 20.54bhp and 17.25Nm. On offer is a 5-speed gearbox. Speaking of its features, the 200 4V flaunts an LED headlamp, a digital instrument console with Bluetooth that offers&nbsp;turn-by-turn navigation, call alerts, an assist function, a crash alert, and more. Its&nbsp;3 ride modes include Rain, City, and Sport. The&nbsp;bike's power and torque figures&nbsp;vary depending on these ride&nbsp;modes.&nbsp;In the domestic market, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V rivals the Bajaj Pulsar NS200, the Suzuki Gixxer 250, and the Yamaha FZ25.

Prices of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V have risen across all 4 variants. The Apache RTR 160 4V now demands Rs 700 more than before. It now has a starting price of Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom).

TVS Motor Company recently announced the sales figures for the month of February. The manufacturer&nbsp;reported total sales of 276,150 units in February 2023, up from 281,714 units in the same period last year. In February this year, total two-wheeler sales were 267,026 units, up from 267,625 units in February 2022. Domestic two-wheeler sales increased by 28 per cent&nbsp;in February 2023, to 221,402 units, from 173,198 units in February 2022. Motorcycle sales were 126,243 units last month, compared to 143,523 units in February 2022, while scooter sales increased by 21 per cent&nbsp;to 104,825 units in February 2023, compared to 86,616 units in February 2022.&nbsp;Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMS), which collectively sold 247,175 two-wheelers during the same period, was outsold by the company. The difference in sales between TVS and Honda was 8 per cent, making the former the second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the nation. With 394,460 units sold in the previous month, Hero is still in the first place.

Customers have been responding encouragingly to the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/tvs-iqube-electric-scooter-crosses-50000-sales-milestone-in-india-112283/">TVS iQube electric scooter</a>, according to the company. In February 2023, the electric scooter saw its highest-ever sales of 15,522 units, compared to 2,238 units in February 2022. In terms of two-wheeler exports, there were 45,624 units in February 2023 compared to 94,427 units during the same time last year. Moreover,&nbsp;9,124 units were sold by TVS Motor's three-wheeler division last month, compared to 14,089 units in February 2022.

TVS Motor Company's February Sales at 276,150 Units; Manages to Outsell Honda

TVS Motor Company sold 276,150 units in February 2023, compared to 281,714 units in February 2022, a 1.97 per cent decrease year on year. Domestic two-wheeler sales increased by 28 per cent, from 173,198 units in February 2022 to 221,402 units in February 2023.

TVS Motor Company has crossed&nbsp;a global sales milestone of over 50 lakh units for their&nbsp;TVS Apache series. The company achieved the first 40 lakh unit sales milestone in October 2020, taking about 15 years to clock&nbsp;the same. And now, in just 28 months, TVS has managed to sell&nbsp;the last 10 lakh units of the motorcycle. This achievement is a true testament to the fact that the TVS Apache is one of the fastest growing sports&nbsp;brands all around the world, according to the manufacturer. The Apache brand was launched way back in 2005 and became popular among the masses. TVS Motor Company has introduced the&nbsp;2023 <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/tvs/" target="_blank">TVS</a> Apache RTR 160 4V Special Edition at a price tag of&nbsp;₹1.30&nbsp;lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The special edition has a&nbsp;Pearl White colour that will go on sale alongside the existing&nbsp;Matte Black Special Edition model in the market. A redesigned lightweight bullpup muffler is new in the Special Edition trims.&nbsp;The exhaust is&nbsp;1 kg lighter than the existing version's unit and will also&nbsp;result in a throatier exhaust note and refined&nbsp;power delivery claims TVS.

On the mechanical front, the new bike gets the same&nbsp;159.7cc, oil-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected engine producing a power output of 17.3bhp at 9250rpm and a peak torque of 14.73Nm at 7250rpm. It's&nbsp;paired with a five-speed gearbox.

The&nbsp;2023 Special Edition will feature adjustable clutch &amp; brake levers,&nbsp;colour-coordinated black &amp; red alloy wheels, dual tone seat with a new seat pattern, rear radial tyre,&nbsp;TVS SmartXonnectTM, gear shift indicator, and full-LED headlamp with signature Daytime Running Light (DRL). 2023 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Special Edition launched at Rs 1.30 lakh

The 2023 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Special Edition has been launched. The newly introduced Special Edition variant has a Lightweight Bullpup Exhaust and a Pearl White colour option. The model will be the latest addition to the TVS Apache series.

This will be the third update to the TVS Apache RR310 since its launch in 2017. TVS was to bring in the refreshed offering earlier in April, but the COVID-19 related lockdown forced it to reschedule the launch.

Earlier this year in April, TVS sent us an invite for the launch of the 2021 Apache RR310. The Hosur-based bike maker, however, was forced to cancel the event due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the brand is once again gearing up for the launch.

TVS has been constantly updating the RR310 ever since its launch in 2017. The fully-faired offering got its first update in May 2019, which was quickly followed by another refresh in January 2020. This, then, will be the third time the Apache RR310 gets an update.

So, what can we expect from the 2021 RR310? Going by the invite that TVS sent us in April, it's safe to expect that the RR310 will get upgraded suspension components. Currently, the Apache RTR 200 4V already gets preload-adjustable front forks. With the RR310 being the flagship offering, TVS is likely to introduce the adjustable suspension in this one too. Moreover, the invitation sent in April had an image of the motorcycle with most components wiped out, except for the suspension. TVS has just brought in the Ntorq 125 Race XP, with marginally more power and torque than before. The 2021 RR310 could also get a mildly tweaked engine, which promises better performance.

The Apache RR310 already comes fitted with LED lighting and an all-digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. &nbsp;The TVS flagship also already gets four riding modes, throttle by wire, Slipper clutch, race telemetry, navigation assist, and more.

Currently, the TVS Apache RR310 is priced at Rs 2.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the updated 2021 model to demand Rs 5,000 – 10,000 more.
