<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/">BMW Group India</a> delivered a total of 7,098 cars in the first half of 2024 (January-June), marking an increase of 21% from 5,867 units sold in the same period last year.&nbsp;BMW alone registered sales of 6,734 vehicles and SUVs, a notable YoY increase of 23%. On the other hand, Mini contributed with 364 units.&nbsp;Further, the company's motorcycle division, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/bmw/">BMW Motorrad</a>, added to the year's half-yearly sales with 3,614 units. <h2>BMW India H1 2024 Sales: Best-selling Models</h2>

<p>SUVs, which accounted for around 3,600 units, or 54% of the total, remained the primary contributor to India's BMW sales.&nbsp;Notably, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/x1/">BMW X1</a> was the best-selling SUV, with a share of 19% in the sales.&nbsp;On the other hand, the BMW 3 Series was the most popular sedan, accounting for 17% of sales.</p>

<p>The BMW 7 Series, i7, X7, and XM saw a 17% increase in sales in the Luxury class segment,&nbsp;accounting for 18% of overall sales. Out of these models, the X7 was the top-selling Luxury Class BMW during the H1 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company also saw strong demand for electric cars during the first half of the year.&nbsp;It sold 397 EVs&nbsp;from BMW and Mini.&nbsp;Interestingly, the BMW i7 was the best-selling BMW EV in this period. Additionally,&nbsp;BMW Group India's BEV line sold over 2,000 units,&nbsp;with the BMW iX accounting for half of the total.</p>

BMW Group India Records Highest-ever Car Sales in First 6 Months of 2024

For the first time, BMW Group India sales have surpassed 7,000 units in the first half of the year. Let's look at the sales performance of the company during the H1 2024.

<p>The prices of BMW India's lineup of vehicles have been updated for the 2024 model year. Since it arrived in India last year, the price of the premium SUV, the BMW X1, has increased by up to Rs 90,000, whereas the price of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has surged by up to Rs 50,000. The price revision&nbsp;for the BMW X1 sets it between Rs 49.50 lakh and Rs 52.50 lakh, while the 2 Series GC is now priced between Rs 43.90 lakh and Rs 46.90 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures. The latest iteration of the BMW X1 sDrive 18i M Sport model sees a price increase of up to Rs 90,000. On the other hand, the sDrive 18d M Sport diesel variant now costs Rs 60,000 more.&nbsp;The 220i M Sport, 220i M Sport Pro, M Performance Edition, and 220d M Sport are the available versions of the&nbsp;BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.&nbsp;The&nbsp;petrol versions of the model&nbsp;now cost Rs 40,000 extra, while the diesel model costs Rs 50,000 more. Notably, the price tag of the M Performance Edition stays unaffected.</p>

<h2>BMW X1: Powertrain and Features</h2>

<p>The 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine generates 134bhp of maximum power at 4,400-6,500rpm and 230Nm of torque at 1,500-4,000rpm.&nbsp;The diesel engine, meanwhile, can produce 147bhp&nbsp;and 360Nm of peak torque. Both mills&nbsp;are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which powers the front wheels and has paddle shifters. According to the manufacturer, the BMW X1 sDrive18i M Sport can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 9.2 seconds. The M Sport's ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency is 16.13km/l.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The X1 SUV boasts an infotainment system with a 10.7-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch information display within its cabin. The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus is powered by BMW Operating System 8. Among the standard amenities are an interior camera, BMW Digital Key Plus, BMW ID functionality, smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two-zone automatic climate control, sport leather steering wheel, BMW Maps, and a rain sensor that triggers the headlights. Along with these standard technologies, the car also comes equipped with a front-collision warning system, cruise control with brake function, and parking assistant, which includes a reversing assistant and camera.</p>

<h2>BMW<strong>&nbsp;</strong>2 Series Gran Coupe: Engine and Features</h2>

<p>With the introduction of a&nbsp;top-tier petrol variant, the&nbsp;220i M Sport Pro&nbsp;last year, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe&nbsp;received&nbsp;several new features. Among these include a powerful 205-watt 10-speaker music system, BMW gesture control, and a head-up display. The model retains the&nbsp;features of the standard model in addition to the upgraded ones. A 10.25-inch digital console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with BMW OS 7.0 are the two of these. Ambient lighting, voice control, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, auto start/stop, 3D navigation, and additional amenities are all offered as standard.</p>

<p>Under the bonnet of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe M Sport Pro is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is callibrated to deliver a maximum power output of 189bhp and a peak torque of 280Nm. Power from the engine is transferred to the front wheels via a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch gearbox. Modern performance-enhancing features like launch control and a shift-by-wire gear selector are also included in the car.&nbsp;</p>

BMW X1, 2 Series Gran Coupe Prices Hiked by up to Rs 90,000 in India

When you see what it has to offer on paper, it will come across as a bit underwhelming. However, the moment you get behind the wheel, all those preconceived notions will simply disappear.</p>

<p>Let’s first address the elephant in the room – the engine options. BMW offers the X1 with two engine options – a 133bhp rated 1.5-cylinder three-cylinder turbo and a 148bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo. There’s no AWD on offer – both versions are FWD. Now, that doesn’t sound right in a BMW, does it?</p>

<p>But, coming back to the point, don’t judge a book by its cover. And that’s because the X1 belies everything that you read about it. For our track test, BMW sent the X1 diesel, and suffice to say, its drivetrain is not lethargic. It’s refined – at least on the inside – the power delivery is velvety, and the driveability is stellar. At no point does it feel slow or underpowered. Whether you’re cruising down the expressway, driving in traffic, or pushing it on a track, the X1’s diesel unit has you covered everywhere.</p>

<p>What we did miss, however, was the AWD traction and sure-footedness. Full-bore acceleration results in a bit of a torque steer, which is a bit un-BMW-like. The handling is precise, though, and the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/x1/">BMW X1</a> steers with great poise. The suspension is well calibrated and the ride is taut without being objectionable.</p>

<p>The X1 takes the game forward in terms of offering you a luxury car experience. The quality of materials, fit-and-finish, curved HD display, interior space, gadgets, seat massagers, and so on – everything in here makes it the quintessential luxury SUV. You can’t fault this aspect of the X1, really.</p>

<p>On the whole, the X1 is a much better luxury SUV than it ever was. We’d go as far as to claim that it’s the best entry-level ‘luxury’ SUV if all you want to do is pamper yourself and your family. As a BMW, though, it does leave you wanting more...</p>

<h2>New BMW X2: Teaser Highlights</h2>

<p>The new-generation X2 shows coupe-SUV proportions, which is a substantial upgrade over the current model's hatchback-type crossover appearance.&nbsp;Additionally, it appears to get a sweeping roofline, similar to that of the X4 and the X6 models. This has been made possible because of a greater rear overhang than before. There are also indications of the integrated rear spoiler, the high-mounted taillights, and more.&nbsp;The illuminated grille is also revealed in the teaser. Moreover, the headlights featured C-shaped LED daytime running lights.</p>

<p>Although there aren't any interior teasers, the new X2 is expected to be substantially identical to that of the X1, with a 10.7-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display on the BMW Curved Display.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>New BMW X2: Mechanical Specifics</h2>

<p>BMW hasn't disclosed many mechanical details concerning the forthcoming X2, but it's likely that the new version will use the same FAAR platform as the X1. The second-generation X2 is anticipated to be available with an array of engine options, including diesel and petrol, in addition to the pure electric.</p>

<h2>BMW iX1 Launched in India</h2>

<p>The iX1 electrified variant of BMW's entry-level X1 SUV has finally been launched in India. The new model retails for Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and has made its entry eight months after the brand launched the 2023 BMW X1 in our market in January. The newly introduced model competes against the Mercedes-Benz EQB, the Volvo C40 Recharge, the Kia EV6, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.&nbsp;The new BMW iX1 electric SUV has a 66.4kWh Lithium-ion battery pack under its hood.</p>

<p>Cosmetically, the BMW iX1 has many similarities with the ICE-powered X1 that is presently available for purchase in India. <p>When BMW launched the first-gen X1 in India back in 2011, it became a crowd favourite because of its stellar pricing and brand appeal. The X1 established itself as the entry ticket to the glorified world of BMW, drawing ‘aspirational’ buyers outside the brand’s showrooms in queues across the country. The X1 was a mega-hit, period.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The second-gen X1 couldn’t quite replicate the success of its predecessor though. The pricing wasn’t as lucrative, but more importantly, it had lost the BMW DNA. It went from RWD to FWD (although AWD was offered). The biggest problem with the second-gen X1, however, was that it never looked or felt special, compared to rivals like the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2022-audi-q3-review-first-drive-111923/">Audi Q3 </a>and <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/car-reviews/2021-mercedes-amg-gla-35-review-first-drive-110119/">Mercedes-Benz GLA.&nbsp;</a></p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Design</h2>

<p>Design is a subjective matter, and a lot of people don't like the design language of new BMWs, which is understood. In the X1, though, it works, for the loud styling and big nostrils bring some SUV-like aggression to the fore. It has a lot of presence, a lot of appeal. And for the first time, it looks like an SUV, thanks to a massive kidney grille, chunky new LED headlamps, and a prominent power dome on the bonnet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Even though it’s underpinned by a modified version of the previous car’s UKL platform, the new X1 has grown in size significantly – it’s 44mm taller, 53mm longer, and 24mm wider. The wheelbase is also up by 22mm (2,692mm). You will notice this change in dimensions&nbsp;when you look at it from the side. The design is more proportionate&nbsp;now, and its silhouette reminds you of the X5. The model on test here was fitted with the M Sport package, so it’s got sporty M-Design and 18-inch alloy wheels, along with a Nardo Grey-like paint scheme, which looks really good. At the back, the X1 features a stubby and rakish back with protruding taillamps, which again look quite sporty. If I have to sum it up, I would say that the X1 isn’t a pretty design, but it’s contemporary and appealing. And it’s likely to age well with time.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Interior, Space &amp; Features</h2>

<p>BMW has really hit it out of the park when it comes to the tech and interior quality of the X1. Without beating around, let me tell you that this cabin sets the new benchmark for its segment! The quality and fit-and-finish of materials are absolutely exquisite. Then, there’s the tech on offer. Like the new 3-Series, the X1 gets a curved HD display comprising two screens – a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.3-inch digital driver display. Not only does it look phenomenal but also works like a breeze. The user interface is intuitive, and the screen’s touch response and quality are the best in the segment. Plus,&nbsp;it packs a raft of features including wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The only problem, a minor one though,&nbsp;is that there are no physical buttons for aircon – everything is integrated into the touchscreen, and it takes some time to get the hang of it. BMW has also done away with the iDrive rotary controller, so you do miss that as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another big update is the introduction of a floating centre console. It looks classy and minimalistic with a few buttons to access driving modes, volume controls, etc. You also no longer get a traditional gear lever but a small button/shifter of sorts to do the job.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This particular variant gets an M-Sport steering wheel that’s nice and sporty to hold. There are paddle shifters at the back of the wheel, although they are a touch too plasticky. Overall, though, everything in this cabin, whatever you touch, feels top quality. The X1 definitely feels like a proper luxury SUV on the inside, which can’t be said about its rivals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The X1 has taken a giant leap forward when it comes to cabin space and comfort. At the front, you have large and accommodating seats with electric adjustments and seat massaging function, making it the only SUV in its segment to have this feature. And it works well, I can confirm. The back seat comfort is equally good – the longer wheelbase translates into more legroom, while the headroom is more than adequate too. The seats offer great under-thigh support. The rear bench can also slide forward and backwards by 130mm, and you can also recline the backrest. The transmission hump isn’t that tall, and the third passenger can sit in comfort for short durations. On the whole, it’s a plush and comfy place to be. And the 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a large panoramic sunroof only elevate&nbsp;the whole experience.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Engine Performance</h2>

<p>The X1 is available in both petrol and diesel versions. On this occasion, we were driving the diesel or sdrive18d M Sport version. It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit, which is rated at 148bhp and develops 360Nm of torque. Despite being a diesel engine, it is surprisingly refined. Be it in the city or at highway speeds, you don’t get to hear the diesel clatter inside the cabin. The power delivery is equally creamy, and there’s a nice and strong surge of power. The acceleration isn’t urgent, but you can’t call it slow either. The performance is more than adequate. However, if you ask for more performance and drive it aggressively – revving it to the redline and all – the diesel engine gets quite vocal. The best way is to drive it without rushing things up.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The X1 now gets a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Shifts are surprisingly quite smooth, and the ratios complement the diesel motor really well. The in-gear acceleration is strong, and you never really feel that it’s underpowered – the 360Nm of torque comes&nbsp;in really handy during quick overtakes. It’s an effortless powertrain and also quite efficient. BMW claims that it can return over 20km/l (ARAI certified). We managed to eke out nearly 16km/l, which is not bad for a BMW SUV that costs Rs 50 lakh.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Ride &amp; Handling</h2>

<p>The X1’s ride-and-handling is another of its main highlights. The X1’s ride quality is neither overly soft nor bone-jarringly stiff. Instead, it’s got a nice balance where it always feels pliant and soothing. At low speeds, it can thump over sharp bumps but otherwise, there is&nbsp;not much to complain about, really.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The handling is impressive and predictable. Drive it normally, and it follows your instructions like an obedient kid. And even when you push it hard around a bend, it doesn’t get out of control easily – understeer&nbsp;sets in late, and the grip levels are quite impressive. The steering is direct and weighs up adequately as speed rises, although it’s not exactly dripping with feel.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Deal Breakers</h2>

<p>So far, the X1 comes across as a complete package. However, it's not all rainbows and sunshine. You see, there are a couple of things that aren’t quite right with the X1. First up, the fact that there’s no AWD on offer. Sure, there aren’t a lot of buyers who will care about it in this segment, but since it’s an SUV, it would have made sense if BMW offered&nbsp;AWD with the X1. Both of its arch-rivals, the GLA and Q3, have AWD. In fact, in the Audi, it’s available as standard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the biggest problem with the X1 is the fact that it feels so un-BMW to drive. Make no mistake, it’s a great luxury SUV. But, again, that special BMW feeling is missing. The diesel engine offers adequate performance, but it’s not quick by any standards. And more importantly, I don’t think luxury car buyers today are interested in diesel, given the diesel engine’s bleak future. Even though we haven’t driven the petrol version as yet, I’m not expecting it to have earth-shattering performance either, for it’s a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo unit, which delivers just 133bhp and does 0&nbsp;– 100km/h in a leisurely 9.2 seconds. To put things into perspective, there are compact SUVs in the sub-20 lakh price bracket that offer more oomph and better acceleration than the X1. I definitely feel BMW could have offered the X1's&nbsp;more powerful petrol versions in India because when you drive a BMW, these things do matter since the driving experience is one of the main USPs of any BMW.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>2023 BMW X1: Verdict</h2>

<p>As an entry-level luxury SUV, the third-gen X1 has covered all the bases and then some! It would be fair to say that it has its rivals well and truly licked when it comes to the luxury SUV experience, especially inside the cabin. The only downer is that it doesn’t quite feel like a driver's car, which is what the brand BMW is known for.</p>

<p>To cut a long story short, if you want a luxury SUV, with luxury being your top priority, there’s no other SUV in the segment that does it better than the X1. But if you have something else in mind, if you want that BMW's drive quality and performance, the X1 falls a bit short.&nbsp;</p>

While the new X1 sDrive18i xLine (petrol) variant boasts a price tag of Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom),&nbsp;the BMW X1 sDrive18d M Sport (diesel) variant is priced at&nbsp;Rs 47.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The X1, one of the volume drivers for the German luxury car manufacturer, will go on sale in its third generation. The manufacturer has already launched the all-new BMW 7 Series, the first-ever BMW i7, the new BMW X7, and the new BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine this month. Speaking of appearance, the new BMW X1 features slim headlights with inverted L-shaped DRLs on either side of a large, chrome-heavy kidney grille. For starters, the new X1 is bigger than its predecessor in almost every metric, it also gets a tech update inside and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/bmw/" target="_blank">BMW</a> has also unveiled the first-ever iX1 as an all-electric alternative.</p>

<p>Design-wise, the new X1 is sharper than before. There are L-shaped elements in the headlights and taillights, as well as on the front and rear bumpers. Of course, the BMW kidney grille is larger than before but not as gargantuan as what we’ve seen on some other BMW models.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Inside, the new X1 gets a completely redesigned layout with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment screen sitting high up in the cabin. The X1’s infotainment system is also upgraded to iDrive 8, gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there is an optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system on offer too.</p>

<p>Thanks to the new X1 being 43mm taller, 23mm wider and 43mm longer, BMW says it has improved cabin space with more shoulder and elbow room than with the outgoing X1.</p>

<p>There are plenty of powertrain options with the new X1. The petrol options include the X1 sDrive18i with 134bhp and 230Nm and the X1 xDrive23i with 201bhp &amp; 320Nm. The diesel units include the X1 sDrive18d which makes 147.5bhp and 360Nm and finally the X1 xDrive23d producing 194.5bhp and 400Nm. Finally, we have the iX1 xDrive30 with 308bhp and 494Nm and a range up to 438km thanks to a 64.7kWh battery.</p>

<p>Thanks to the success of the BMW X1 in India, we expect this new X1 to make its way here in the coming months. The new X1 will compete against the likes of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/gla/" target="_blank">Mercedes-Benz GLA</a> and the Volvo XC40 here in India. There’s no news on the iX1 coming here, but with the i4 and iX models already here, BMW could strengthen its EV portfolio in India with the iX1.</p>

2023 BMW X1 and iX1 unveiled

BMW has unveiled the all-new X1 with a bigger footprint, edgy styling and lots more technology inside. There is also, for the first time ever, an all-electric alternative to the X1, named the iX1.

X1
