The styling is evolutionary, and the same liquid-cooled, 373cc, single-cylinder engine as the Dominar 400 powers the Pulsar NS400Z street bike, making 39.4bhp in both bikes. The top speed of the new Bajaj bike is 154km/h (claimed). Its pricing and specifications result in it sitting close to the Yamaha MT-15 V2, which is the sub-200cc naked motorcycle in the country. Let's look at the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, and see how it weighs up against the MT-15 V2.&nbsp;

In comparison with the Yamaha MT-15 V2, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a little pricier but gives you more capacity, power, and torque to justify the cost. As mentioned before, the&nbsp;Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z has a top speed of 154km/h. This is greater than that of the&nbsp;Yamaha MT-15 V2 (130km/h). The new Bajaj bike is installed with a&nbsp;373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is capable of producing 39.4bhp at 8,800rpm and 35Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.&nbsp;

On the other hand, the&nbsp;Yamaha MT-15 V2 uses a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine&nbsp;with VVA (Variable Value Actuation) technology, making&nbsp;18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. The&nbsp;Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, undoubtedly, delivers better output from the engine. Transmission duties on both bikes are&nbsp;taken care of by a&nbsp;six-speed&nbsp;gearbox equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch.&nbsp;

<h2>Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z vs Yamaha MT-15: Brakes, Suspension</h2>

In terms of brakes, the setup on the&nbsp;Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a combination of a 320mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. Meanwhile, the&nbsp;Yamaha MT-15 V2 features&nbsp;a 282mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS.&nbsp;Both bikes roll on 17-inch alloy wheels, but tyre sizes vary with the Yamaha MT-15 V2 featuring&nbsp;100/80 front and&nbsp;140/70 rear and the Pulsar NS400Z&nbsp;110/70 front and&nbsp;140/70 rear tyres.&nbsp;

Coming to the Ray ZR,&nbsp;Yamaha has unveiled the model&nbsp;in a new shade of Cyan Blue for both the disc and drum variants. The 125cc scooter is still available in the current colour schemes of Metallic Black, Matte Red, Racing Blue, and Dark Matte Blue. Yamaha previously announced colour customisation options for the MT-15 models in India, enabling buyers to pick and add any preferred shade to their bikes.

With a focus on the premium segment, Yamaha has recently launched&nbsp;the 2023 versions of the Aerox 155, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">MT-15 V2</a>, the R15 V4, and the R15S in the Indian market. Now, the updated&nbsp;Aerox 155 scooter can be had with traction control system (TCS), which helps minimise wheelspin and maximise performance. It becomes the first scooter in its segment to come equipped with TCS, according to the company. Alongside the 2023 Aerox 155, the updated versions&nbsp;of the&nbsp;MT-15 V2, the R15 V4, and the R15S have also been launched with new colour options&nbsp;and a host of new features. Interested buyers have to shell out at least Rs 1.43 lakh (Rs 1,42,800) for the latest Aerox 155 maxi-sports scooter. The new Yamaha Aerox 155 with first-in-class traction control system is&nbsp;priced at Rs 1.43 lakh (ex-showroom). More than that, the updated scooter now is E20-fuel ready and&nbsp;OBD II-compliant (onboard diagnostics), as confirmed by Yamaha. It uses a new-generation 155cc Blue Core engine that comes with variable valve actuation (VVA) and is compatible with a CVT transmission. Its&nbsp;liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC (single overhead camshaft), 4-valve motor churns out 14.8bhp of maximum power at&nbsp;8,000rpm and 13.9Nm of peak torque at&nbsp;6,500rpm.&nbsp;

On the feature front, the 2023 Aerox 155 is available with a hazard switch as a standard feature along with a brand-new Silver colour option. Moreover, it also features a single-channel ABS and&nbsp;a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth.

The 2023 Yamaha MT-15 V2 comes in two variants:&nbsp;Bluetooth-enabled and non-Bluetooth-equipped. The Bluetooth-enabled variant (Y-Connect) includes call alert, SMS, phone battery level, last parked location, an e-mail alert, and so on. Furthermore, the latest MT-15 V2 variant continues to use dual-channel ABS (anti-braking system) for added safety and&nbsp;traction control system for better control and performance. Like the 2023 Aerox 155, it also meets OBD-II compliance.

Coming to its colour options, customers have two new different colour schemes to choose from - Dark Matte Blue and Metallic Black. The Yamaha MT-15 V2 starts at Rs 1.65 lakh and goes up to Rs 1.69 lakh.&nbsp;Prices are&nbsp;ex-showroom. The prices vary depending on the colour choices.

Speaking of the last two models, the Yamaha R15 V4 and the R15S are priced at Rs 1.86 lakh and Rs 1.63 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Yamaha offers the 2023 R15 V4 in new Intensity White colour and existing Racing Blue colour. Now, it can be had with Quick Shifter as a new feature.&nbsp;On the other hand, the R15S gets a racing-inspired LED display and is OBD-II compliant.&nbsp;

Like the MT-15 V2, both the&nbsp;R15 V4 and the R15S are powered by a&nbsp;liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve, 155cc engine that comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. The 2023 versions of the Yamaha Aerox 155, the MT-15 V2, the R15 V4, and the R15S have been launched in the Indian market. Now, the latest Aerox 155 scooter can be had with traction control system (TCS) along with a brand-new Silver colour option.

The special editions come with a new paint inspired by Yamaha's MotoGP motorcycles.&nbsp;

Yamaha India has announced the launch of the 2022 MotoGP Edition models of the R15M and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">MT-15 Ver 2.0</a>. The special edition motorcycles will be on sale at the company’s Blue square chain of dealerships across India.&nbsp;

Changes in these special editions are purely cosmetic. The motorcycles are now gowned in black paint with <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/" target="_blank">Yamaha</a> and Monster Energy decals on either side. The latter can be prominently seen on the fuel tank, its shrouds as well as the side panels and the headlight cowl.&nbsp;

In terms of mechanicals, both the motorcycles retain their original powertrain. This means that the duo is powered by the same 155cc liquid-cooled motor with an output rated 18.1bhp and 14.2Nm (14.1Nm for the MT-15). Furthermore, even the feature list of both the motorcycles has been retained.&nbsp;

Like other core aspects, even the cycle parts have been retained from the standard variants. Both the motorcycles come with an inverted front fork at the front and a monoshock at the back. &nbsp;

The price for the R15M MotoGP Edition is set at Rs 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This is Rs 8,100 more than before and the same as the Metallic Grey paint option. On the other hand, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">MT-15</a> Ver 2.0 MotoGP Edition costs 1,65,400 (both ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 2,000 more than its base model.

Yamaha R15 M vs MT-15 – Photos

While the R15 M and MT-15 share a lot in common, they are two very different motorcycles in the real world.

When we first decided to pit the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/">Yamaha</a> <a href="https://www.autox.com/track-test/yamaha-r15m-track-test-110291/">R15 M</a> against the new <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">Yamaha MT-15</a>, I couldn’t help but wonder if it would be a fruitful endeavour – after all, they have the same chassis, the same engine, and the same transmission. But when I looked at them side-by-side, I remember thinking that they couldn’t look any more different. So, what is it, are they different or the same? Well, the only way to settle it was to live with them and see for myself. And that’s exactly what I did.

I started with the R15 because I like the way it looks. That’s not to say that the MT-15 is not a head-turner or an eye-grabber – it very much is, but, I think the R15 in its special 60th World Grand Prix livery is simply captivating. Also, it kind of makes the R15 look bigger than it really is. The MT-15, on the other hand, despite its muscular styling, looks ever so compact, which is interesting because it is the longer, wider, and taller of the two motorcycles. But hey, we all have our preferences, and you already have my two cents on it; so, let’s move on.

Acceleration&nbsp;or Top Speed?

Without any delay, the R15 began to show me its tricks. It likes to dart ahead into gaps with the same alacrity that the engine exhibits as it revs towards the redline – a perfect combination. I must add that R15 doesn’t ask you to muscle it into corners or gaps – instead, it likes to flow into them with the grace and elegance of a ballerina. The MT-15, on the other hand, has a completely different approach, despite having the same propensity for redlining. It likes to be pushed into corners because of its more upright riding posture and flat handle-bars. Another reason for this is the fact that the MT-15 has a torquier mid-range – it just pulls with slightly more enthusiasm than the R15 in city traffic from lower in the rev-range. But that’s not to say that the R15 lags behind – not at all. Its engine offers enough grunt to deal with slow-moving traffic at lower revs (VVA for the win!), but it comes into its own as the motor revs past 6,500rpm. When the MT-15 feels like it’s starting to lose steam towards the top-end, the R15 continues the frenzy. These differences, however, are not big enough to warrant an outright disregard of any of the two motorcycles. They both are brilliant machines in their own rights, and it’s only when they are pitted against each other that you notice the difference.&nbsp;

Good for the Grind?

Now, both of them are small-capacity motorcycles, which means that they will be used mostly for commuting and touring. In other words, they both have to be practical as well. On that front, the R15 M and MT-15 offer very little in terms of under-seat storage – space enough for a toolkit and registration papers, that’s it! But, then, that’s the case with most motorcycles in this class.

In terms of riding posture, the R15 is quite aggressive; however, the MT-15’s pegs are quite rear-set, which means your lower body is as aggressively positioned as on the R15. If you want to tour on either of the motorcycles, tank bags will be your best friend. The MT-15’s tank is smaller than the R15’s, so you won’t be able to strap on a bag as big as you can on the R15, but the former offers better grab-rails for the pillion rider and a slightly larger seat too.

Tech Takeover

In terms of features, the R15 has an edge over the MT-15. It’s a good ₹26,000 more expensive than the MT-15, and for the premium, you get a larger instrument cluster with increased functionality, traction control, and ABS on the rear wheel. There’s also a track mode, which reconfigures your cluster to be more track-specific and allows you to time your laps as well. The traction control is switchable, but ABS always remains on – a bit of a bummer, frankly. There’s also a quick-shifter, which the MT-15 also gets, and it is quite smooth to use high in the rev-range, and so is the slip-and-assist clutch. In both motorcycles, the gearbox is a breeze to use, with its quick and snappy shifts. The MT-15 has a negatively-lit cluster, which is smaller, but it is legible and gives you a lot of information. You can even pair your smartphone with it to get your phone notifications, like the R15.

Verdict

So, which of the two is for you, and why? Let’s start with the R15. It’s a small capacity motorcycle in its fourth generation that’s good for all kinds of roads, but it is at its happiest around a corner. Its riding position is quite aggressive, which can be a bit daunting for some. And then, there is the pesky traction control, which sometimes cuts into your wheelie time, and the non-switchable ABS is basically the R15 telling us that it’s not in the mood for games. In short, the R15 is a motorcycle that asks you to become a better rider, so that it can reward you with sheer performance.

The MT-15, on the other hand, is a bit rowdy. Sit on it, and you immediately feel the hooligan inside you waking up. Don’t get me wrong, it won’t outrightly scare you, but there is something about it that just makes you not want to go easy on the throttle. Narrow spaces suddenly turn into an invitation on the MT-15, and honestly, it’s not demanding – it doesn’t require you to be the most gifted rider. It offers you that riding fun for a substantially lower price than the R15. The MT-15 can be rewarding as well if you want it to be, but it’s not on the same level as the R15.

So, if you desire faster lap times, the R15 M is definitely what you should go for, as it will not only make you a better and a faster rider, but it is an able tourer as well and has the chops to hit the road for long trips. However, if your idea of motorcycling is to grin from ear to ear every time you get on your motorcycle, well, then you should look no further than the MT-15, as it’s a very easy motorcycle to get used to. Yamaha R15 M vs MT-15: Comparison

While the Yamaha R15 M and MT-15 share a lot in common, are they two different motorcycles in the real world? The only way to find out was to live with them and see for ourselves. And that’s exactly what we did!

Just as the YZF-R15s were timely updated with newer versions; Yamaha is likely to apply the same strategy with its MT-15 series and reports suggest that an MT-15 V2 is in the works.

It’s no secret that the Yamaha MT-15 is essentially a naked version of the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3. However, last year, Yamaha India launched the upgraded version of the R15, the YZF-R15 V4 which packed upgraded mechanicals and electronics. Yamaha also introduced the R15 M and you can read about the two motorcycles by clicking here.

Now, the same upgrades are likely to be made on the new Yamaha MT-15. The new MT-15 could pack upside-down forks which are already on offer with the international spec model. The motorcycle is likely to feature a traction control system and a quick-shifter.

The instrument cluster of the new MT-15 could pack a newer design and more features, except a new layout – similar to the YZF-R15 V4 – and Bluetooth connectivity.

There could be some minor styling tweaks with the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15-v2/">new 2022 MT-15</a>, but nothing substantial. The engine will be the same 155cc single-cylinder unit which will be paired to a six-speed gearbox. The final drive ratio will be closer compared to the R15 V4 and R15 M. The power figures are likely to be the same as the new R15s, which are 18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm.

Currently, the Yamaha MT-15 is priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom). The new and updated MT-15 is likely to see a price hike of almost Rs 7,000-10,000. The key rival of the MT-15 will be the KTM 125 Duke.

The New Yamaha MT-15 V2 in the works?

Yamaha Motors India has launched the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">MT-15</a> with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP livery. The new special edition of the Yamaha MT-15 is priced at Rs 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The new MotoGP Edition MT-15 demands a premium of Rs 2,000 over the price of the standard motorcycle, which is sold in either a metallic or a matte finish.

This new Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP livery includes ‘Monster’ branding on the fuel tank and the Monster Energy logo on the fuel tank shrouds. There are blue highlights of the ‘Yamahalube ‘on the extended panels as well. One can observe Eneos sticker&nbsp;on the rear cowl of the Yamaha MT-15. The base colour stays black with a gloss finish.

Mechanically, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/mt-15/">Yamaha MT-15</a> &nbsp;MotoGP Edition continues to be the same as before. A 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox, powers the motorcycle. The output is marked at 18.2bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 13.9Nm at 8,500rpm.

The suspension components continue to be the same as well, with telescopic forks at the front and a multi-link mono-shock at the rear. The MT-15 continues with the same braking hardware and single-channel ABS. The feature list includes a side-stand engine cut-off, LCD with negative display, and a slip-and-assist clutch.

For nearly a decade, boy racers have worshipped the Yamaha R15, and not without reason. The R15 has gained cult status, and why not? After all, it revitalised Yamaha in India and, over the years, has only become better – like fine wine perhaps.&nbsp;

Its latest iteration, the R15 V3, is a phenomenal machine, courtesy of its superior powertrain, impeccable chassis, and mini-sport-bike look. However, as incredible as it is, the R15 is not for everyone because of its racy nature. Now, to address this issue, Yamaha launched the <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/yamaha-mt-15-review-first-ride-105669/">MT-15</a> earlier this year – the naked version of the R15 V3.&nbsp;

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/videos/yamaha-mt-15-video-review-first-ride-105740/">MT-15</a> gets all the goodies from the R15 V3 – the frame, brakes, and, most importantly, the 155cc engine that comes with variable valve actuation (VVA). It develops 19bhp and 14.7Nm of torque, and, long story short, this is a peach of an engine! It’s a free-revving unit that offers strong mid-range performance and goes ballistic at the top of the rev range. Needless to say, it’s very addictive! Plus, the MT-15 gets a bigger rear sprocket than the R15’s, and this means that it pulls harder in lower gears, making it perfect for city riding.&nbsp;

The goodness of the R15’s Deltabox frame is evident when you ride the MT-15 around corners. However, thanks to its shorter wheelbase and revised suspension geometry, it’s much quicker to steer, can be easily flicked from one corner to another, and has the reflexes of a cat. Simran, however, felt that the MRF tyres didn’t inspire confidence at the limit, and, with better tyres, the chassis could do a lot more.

So, the MT-15’s engine is a gem, and the handling is impeccable. Plus, with its alien-face and stubby dimensions, it looks very cool too. However, there are a few drawbacks – the quality of the plastics isn’t the best, and we don’t get inverted forks in the Indian version.&nbsp;

It also misses out on an aluminium swingarm and dual-channel ABS when compared with the R15 V3, which only costs ₹5,000 more! There’s no denying that the MT-15 is a very practical and enjoyable pocket-rocket, but it does miss a few tricks.
