Toyota Vellfire Highlights
MPVs have been generating a lot of hoopla in recent times, and they seem to be making a comeback since they're practical, roomy and above all, serve the purpose of ferrying large Indian families from one destination to another. Toyota has been relatively bold in launching what seems to be at par with some luxury sedans in terms of pricing and features.
The new Vellfire MPV promises to bring with it lots of space and comfort for those who'd love to be chauffeur-driven. What's left to be seen is spending nearly ₹ 85 lakh for Toyota Vellfire price proves to be a little unsettling for the consumers. But, then again, there’s the peace of mind that comes with buying a Toyota.
The Toyota Vellfire new model may be an MPV, but it certainly looks very stylish. At the front, it gets a stubby bonnet and a massively sized chrome grille with three bars of chrome and some more chrome above and below, flanked by a split, two-part headlamp design which looks quite stylish. It gets a large bumper too with triangular elements housing the fog lights.
Along the sides, it is quite slab-sided, but the mildly flared wheel arches do give it some character. And the slanting second-row window design will help you spot a Vellfire in a crowd. The wheels don't look too small, thankfully. At the rear, it gets smart clear-lens LED tail lamps with a huge bar of chrome running in the middle. There is also a roof spoiler that gives it a sporty look.
The Toyota Vellfire variants are as follows: Hybrid. Features include a 17-speaker JBL sound system, a 13-inch rear entertainment screen that's mounted on the roof, 16 colour options for the roof lighting, three-zone auto climate control, sunblinds for second and third rows, fold-out tables, cup holders, heated and cooled seats, auto LED headlamps, cornering function, powered and heated ORVMs, twin sunroof, leather upholstery, powered captain seats in the second row, powered super long-slide seats, VIP spotlight with welcome function, powered side and back doors, smart entry with push start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and EVM audio with in-built navigation.
On the safety front, it is equipped with parking assist alert, panoramic view monitor, 7 airbags, VSC, VDIM, HAC, brake hold, ABS with EBD and BA and immobilizer.
Step into the cabin, and you instantly feel like you're in a very posh hotel suite. The last row of seats is flawless. The headroom and legroom are aplenty. There are two captain seats for the last row along with two adjustable headrests and seat belts. You also get AC vents for this row. With the third row folded, there is a lot of boot space too. The middle row boasts of two huge lounge chairs that feel very comfortable. The seats are well-bolstered and under-thigh support is great.
You also get powered leg rests and the seats recline too. The controls for these settings are in the openable armrest. The cabin comes in either flaxen or all-black. The latter gets faux wood inserts that look quite premium. There are lots of soft-touch materials around too. The touchscreen infotainment system is quite smooth to operate. Up-front, there are lots of cubby holes and the seats provide ample comfort. The passenger seat at the front also gets a powered leg rest. Quality is typically Toyota.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Vellfire is powered by a 2.5-litre hybrid petrol engine that makes 113bhp and 198Nm of torque and a pair of electric motors, one for each axle. The motor at the front works in sync with the engine to drive the front wheels through an e-CVT gearbox, while the rear motor powers the rear wheels when required.
The engine is super smooth and very refined. The mid-range is nice and strong, and the gearbox works efficiently. The steering is very light and it feels rather easy to drive in city conditions. It also weighs up nicely. However, the sheer girth of the vehicle can be felt at times. The ride quality, however, is on the firm side. And there is quite a lot of body roll around corners. The Toyota Vellfire on-road price crosses the 90 lakh rupee mark.
The Toyota Vellfire competes directly with the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The Kia Carnival, too, can also be considered as an option at a bargain.
